Effective for optical mice.......2007-09-16
At first I thought my optical mouse needed replacing but it turns out I had just worn out the veneer on my cheap Ikea desk. I got this mouse pad and mouse functionality returned to normal. Save your desk and get one of these to protect your surface and improve mouse function. I only wish they made these without these dorky designs.

I have used this mousepad since I discovered it about 7 years ago. The features mentioned in the other review are key - both the texture of the surface, as well as the no-skid backing. Perhaps one of the best features is the fact that it is washable, which has provided me with years of trouble free use. The design is also pretty attractive and does work well with optical mice.

Of all the mouse pads I've seen and tried, 3M makes the best. They're super-high resolution, due to the surface (for old style ball mice), and have an excellent pattern for optical mice. What really sells me on these are two things: the smooth easy way that mice slide across the 3M mouse pad surface on their Teflon pads, and the low profile of the pad. Since this pad is super-thin, it doesn't raise the mouse to an uncomfortable (or anti-ergonomic) height. So you hardly notice you're using a "mouse pad." The backing surface helps it stay put on most work spaces. And best of all - the small, thin size makes it ideal to take along with a wireless notebook mouse. It carries my highest recommendation. And the price is good, too.

Very Nice Mouse Pad.......2007-08-17
After reading some of the other reviews, I was apprehensive about buying this mouse pad because of the odor concern. I could smell a chemically odor when I first took it out of the package, but only 24-hrs later, there is no noticable smell in the vicinity of the mouse pad.
The other thing I note about this pad is that the gel wrist rest is covered in fabric instead of plastic. I like that becuase the skin on the underside of the wrist is sensitive, and I worried that rubbing that skin against a plastic pad for hours on end would be abrasive, like wearing shorts on a hot day and sitting on a leather sofa. That concern is elimated when I felt this fabric, it is soft enough to prevent chaffing.
Overall, I am happy with my purchase.
One of the best.......2007-06-04
This is the best mousepad I have ever used. At first I used this because my ball mouse tracked better on the 'precise mousing surface', but i still use it because even non-ball mouse glide across it, and the gel wristpad can't be matched.
My one at home lasted nearly 5 years, and I just recently replaced it. The old one probably would have lasted longer, but I ate a lot at my desk, and skin oils took it's toll.
The only con is that it's kind of expensive, but it's worth it.

I initially got a wrist rest about 20 years ago when I was diagnosed with CTS in my right wrist. Since I'm a lefty, mousing seemed to be the biggest stress on my right hand. Having my wrist at the proper angle made a big difference almost immediately. Though I have moved on from the old trackball mouse to an optical mouse, I still use this mousepad with the wrist rest. The gel rest is very comfortable and easily positioned to give your wrist proper support. The surface is probably meant for a trackball style mouse, but it works better for me than my slick wood desktop at keeping the mouse under control.

Pros:
- large mousing surface, I don't "run out" even on a 2560px wide desktop
- gel pad has just the right height for me
- the precision surface can be removed and the underlying pad be used
- very little friction when moving wrist across the pad
Cons:
- precision mouse surface is a bit noisy, although the base pad is not
- precision mouse surface has post-it type glue
- chemical smell from close range

Lo compré para mi Mouse óptico y funciona maravillosamente, siento que el cursor es aún más preciso !. No lo he ensayado con Mouse de bolita, pero pienso que es muy práctico para esos Mice ya que este Pad tiene una superficie rugosa, un diseño muy especial que incluso amerita ver de cerca con una lupa !. Este Pad luce muy bien en mi escritorio, el color me parece fabuloso y la forma (plantilla) es muy práctica pues evita el contacto del talón de la mano con el Pad. Y como si fuera poco, se adhiere perfectamente a cualquier superficie, así que olvídese de esos molestos Pads deslizadores !. Además..., la marca lo precede !. Decent mouse pad.......2006-01-06
If you haven't noticed it's a textured mouse pad, meaning the top surface isn't smooth. It works pretty well with my optical mouse and handles routine pc stuff fine. I wanted to use it to improve my perfomance on some games, but it hasn't been optimal for that use. It's a little too small for gaming and it's backing doesn't hold it in place, so it slides around on my desk unless I anchor it in place with something heavy.

Optical mouse necessity........2007-01-12
This surface is indispensible for users of optical mice. Technically, it is NOT a pad, as it is only about 1mm thick. For precision work or gaming accuracy with an optical mouse, it can't be beat. I got the version with the wrist rest, which is now in a drawer somewhere.
Durability: plan on getting a new one every 2 years with heavy use. I am on my second one.
Ergonomics: Once again, it is NOT a pad and does NOT cushion your wrist. I use mine upside-down, as the motions I make with my mouse "fit" better that way. My first version of this mousing surface was considerably larger, and I miss that. Could use a grippier bottom surface for gaming.
Best mouse pad........2005-04-22
This mouse pad does enhance the tracking of optical mice.
It's the best one I've ever used.
I did have to augment the bottom with mild adhesive so it stays put when gaming.
Good for those who can't use their desk surface........2003-11-27
I picked this up for my optical mouse. I'd been using the mouse for over a year without a mouse pad and it had begun to scuff the top of my desk. I bought the 3M Precise Mousing Surface to avoid scratching my desk further.
The surface works ok but does not seem to be any more "precise" than my desk. It does protect my desktop, but this mouse pad occasionally slides across my desk when I'm moving the mouse. The mousing surface is thin which makes it relatively unobtrusive and makes up a bit for the fact that it moves sometimes. However, the colors/patterns that are available are not very attractive. Who wants a "puddle of water" on their desk, anyway?
All in all I'd say it is not a bad solution if you need to protect your desk or if your desk surface is reflective and can't be used with an optical mouse. However, I can't recommend it for general use.
