Product Description

The Dynamic Integrated New Amplifier of the stereo receiver AV-D58 is a brand-new amplifier system where clear mid-to-high range frequency sound, as well as rich low frequency sound, can be reproduced and listeners can enjoy the close-to-original sound with less distortion at either high or low volume levels.

Amazon.com Review

An incredible value, Aiwa's AV-D58 brings in Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround decoding, multiple digital-audio inputs, simulated surround processing, and an impressive 80 watts per channel for well under the $300 floor that used to be the norm for such features. Surround listening (through left, center, right, and left and right surround speakers and a subwoofer) heightens the realism of both DVD movies and, more recently, music.

In the event that you decide to upgrade to a high resolution DVD-Audio player, this receiver offers 5.1-channel analog inputs to accept a decoded DVD-Audio output. (DVD-Audio signals are too high-resolution for most digital-audio inputs.) With full features and an affordable price, this receiver is the perfect excuse to take your DVD enjoyment to the next level.

1 out of 5 stars Save up for something a little better.......2006-08-06

I know it's tempting and to be honest it hasn't broken or anything but . . .

Power output is so poor, I can crank to full volume and it really isn't overly loud = no headroom = overburdening the amp = sucky sound quality overall.

Controlls are not well laid out. Adjustments for balance of rears to main for dolby is weird. I always have to get my manual out to figure out how to get to it. Some changes must be made with the remote you can't use the front panel controlls.

Remote is a piece of junk.

All in all, save another $100 bucks and get something else

1 out of 5 stars Died after two years.......2003-10-19

The power supply died after less than two years of mild use. Now I have to trash it? The sound was so-so, with a high pitch all the time. Good for begginers.

4 out of 5 stars Go Awia!!!.......2003-06-03

I bought this receiver mainly because of the Super T-Bass System because I didn't have the money for a Subwoofer at the time. Boy was I impressed!!! Not only is the T-Bass awsome but the Dolby Digital, DTS, and DSP surround sound sounds really awsome. The only complaints I have is the unit is supposed to have 5.1 analog inputs like others wrote about but it doesn't. The other complaint is if you turn the volume up past 39 it cuts the bass half way off, since I don't own a sub this is a nusance. But most the time 80watts x5 is enough power for me. I have now had this Receiver for 2 years and have not had any problems with it. For [the money] the Aiwa AV-D58 is a great buy!!!

5 out of 5 stars It's hard for me to let go of money, but.......2003-01-10

I had a couple of '80s model Pioneer components that needed to retire and all I wanted to do was listen to my movies in stereo. I only have 2 Pioneer speakers right now and a pre-digital stereo TV. I also have a DVD, VCR, satellite and Playstation.

I research anything that I have to shell out over 50 bucks for, so this was no different. For the money, this one seems to create some extra salivation that I wasn't used in my non-digital world!

So many settings and jacks for components (even for turntables). The buttons are sooo fun to play with. It can make any stereo TV sound like a theater!! (I do seem to have to crank the volume when running from only the TV, but not from the other components). There are several audio settings for different (and really cool) effects, and a built-in digital EQ for those of us who need to "tweek" our sound. There are RCA jacks in the front so you can plug in that extra toy you only get out every once in a while like the camcorder, or if you want to dub from another component. The radio tunes perfectly, the digital readout is wonderful, and it all runs on a remote (it's good to pamper yourself once in a while).

It takes the "stripped wire" speaker wires and it clips them in place instead of that spring-loaded thing. It looks really bulky, but it's actually real lightweight and easy to move around. I didn't have to buy anything extra to get it to sound good.

If you're still running on that old system, you won't be disappointed! I haven't found anything this doesn't do, it even says "Hello" and "Goodbye". I've had this for at least a year now with no problems (except the sound still gives me goosebumps). And, it's way ahead of me if I ever decide to upgrade my other components.

4 out of 5 stars 5.1 Audio Inputs?.......2002-02-05

I actually called the AIWA company asking about this and they told me that it does have the 5.1 audio inputs. It does not have the actual 5 inputs, you have to use the optical input on the receiver to use it. It is the one located at the top left corner on the back of the receiver. I could only give it 4 stars, the remote is extremely pathetic. Other than that, it is a nice inexpensive system that will serve the avg. consumer very well with very good quality for the price.

Product Description

Aiwa introduces its XR-X7, a design-oriented CD component system that offers a wide range of advanced functions. The XR-X7 has a transparent acrylic top-opening CD lid and a curvaceous soft design. The main unit's stand makes it look like it's floating, giving a "light-footed" impression. Users can change the colors of the large, 12-color LCD display to suit their taste. As a final eye-pleasing touch, the entire system comes in a silver finish. But there's brawn with the beauty: the XR-X7 also offers high-quality sounds and easy operation. Its functions include a high-quality amplifier with 40W of powerful output, virtual QSURROUND that provides stereophonic acoustic effects, CD-R/RW playback and a CD optical digital output terminal that allows connection with a MD unit to further enhance the system.

Amazon.com Product Description

With 16 watts per channel and a no-nonsense, high-tech design, this CD-based executive microsystem is ready to rock any room it graces. Ported, two-way speakers offer impressive heft for their size (augmented by Aiwa's Super T-Bass effect), and you can tailor the sound to your preference with the system's electronic graphic equalizer and BBE mode (which clarifies high frequencies and enhances vocals and solo instruments). The AM/FM tuner offers 32 station presets.

1 out of 5 stars aiwa sells crap.......2003-11-24

I bought two aiwa boomboxes last year. They both died within the year. This company sells crap and they don't care. Buy any other brand!!!

4 out of 5 stars Great "bang-for-the-buck" for an executive micro system.......2002-09-22

I am very impressed with the sound of the XR-X7. This unit offers contemporary styling, several features and crystal clear sound usually found on much more expensive systems. I would say if you are looking for a "kathump-kathump" sound then the XR-X7 is probably not for you. (There is a sub-woofer jack in the back of the unit if more bass is desired, I do not use it.) If you like clarity in your music with accurate bass, then you will love this unit. The unit sounds excellent with CD's but is most impressive with satellite radio. Corner placement really brings the subtleties and definition of the sound alive. I would have given the unit 5 stars except for one feature I felt was frivolous. I feel the screen color adjustment (12 of them) should be traded for a balance control.

3 out of 5 stars It would have been higher, but the remote [is bad].......2002-07-20

My JVC finally [quit] on me and I thought I would try a new flavor. The Aiwa is pretty sharp looking, has lots of features and sounds excellent. I use it in my bedroom, and the sound more than fills the room. However, it comes with possibly the worst remote control in the world! It's about as big as a credit card (and about as thick). To get some of the functions to work, you have to press and hold down a shift button while picking the option (repeat, shuffle, sleep etc...). Pretty much impossible to do with one hand (unless you have six fingers). Because of the remotes rather diminutive size, there is a fear that it would break easily.
My only other gripe is that there isn't a dimmer on the display. You can change the colors, but you can't actually dim them. It may sound silly, but if you are using it in a bed room, the display can actually be pretty bright and somewhat of a pain in the [behind] when trying to sleep.
In summary. Excellent machine. [Terrible] remote control. If the remote were more thought out, I would have given the XR-X7 a 5 out of 5...

5 out of 5 stars Good looks and great sound..........2002-06-03

I found this little Aiwa Xr-X7 and figured it would be great. It has a crisp, clear sound and is great for a small room. I definitely recommend it to others. The surround sound is great because it brings out alot of unheard qualities in cd's.

4 out of 5 stars Great looks, good sound.......2002-03-19

I recently bought an AIWA XR-7. The saleman tried to talk me into buying the AIWA 60 watt powered subwoofer, but I thought he was just trying to sell me something. I should have listened a little closer to what he was saying.

The XR-7 (without the subwoofer) is perfect for a small room, an office or a dorm room. It's sound is crisp and clear. I love the surround sound feature and the T-Bass modes. However to really fill out the sound you need the subwoofer. If you play your music soft and low, you don't need the subwoofer.

Would I recommend the XR-7? You bet!

Did I mention it looks great.

1 out of 5 stars Aiwa let me down.......2000-12-22

I have owned two Aiwa stereos in the past four years. The first was purchased by me, the second I received because of the problems with the first. I brought it in for service six times. On both stereos the disc player would spin discs but not play them. I take care of my discs and keep them clean, they would instantly work in another CD player. Not in my Aiwa stereo. I recently sent a letter to Aiwa headquarters informing them of my problems. Let's see what happens. I do know that I will never buy another Aiwa product again. Ever.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent shelf system.......2005-01-24

this is an excellent mini wooden shelf system; great looks and i have been using this system for almost 3 years without any problems..it still sounds the same..absolutely perfect system for a low price.

1 out of 5 stars Leave it on the shelf.......2004-04-13

I bought two of these machines, one for myself and the other for my mother, and we've had nothing but trouble from both of them. Both units began to malfunction almost immediately after they were unpacked. I had to exchange one since we were unable to repair it. The machine was simply unable to read CDs. The second unit needed the entire laser system replaced. A few months after the problems were fixed, they began to act up once again. I will never purchase anything from Aiwa again. A horrible experience.

4 out of 5 stars Great Sound Great Price.......2002-05-02

This unit is beautiful and really has the sound definition I require from a system. The two-way (my preferred speaker) speakers are crisp and have a punchy bass. I've owned an earlier version of this same unit for 3 years without a hitch. Only drawback: the opening for the CD and the Cassette are a little plastic-y. Of course they are plastic, but my other Aiwa unit has more metal on the face of the unit and feels more substantial.

    5 out of 5 stars Review.......2002-12-10

This system does work very well, and one does get a lot for its price. It has everything that we would need for a complete home theater system (Except maybe a subwoofer, but it does come with a subwoofer input if one is to added to the system), and it's one of the few systems [in that price range] that do come with a Dolby Digital decoder for decoding the 5.1 discreet channels of audio that DVDs can play. It also has very good quality sound for its price, and adding a subwoofer to the system enhances it even further. I do think that it's a very good buy for those who want a great sounding home audio and home theater system without spending too much money.

4 out of 5 stars Worth more than you'll pay.........2002-05-21

I had a very young sales person and he knew what he was talking about. He said ever since they came out with this system, the others on the adjoing shelves stopped selling. The sound is huge for this size and price and it looks and feels good as well.My Cd skips occasionally and I am getting a new box next week (still under warranty). The only other problem I can see with it is there is no record button on the remote. So, you have to get up and down when you want to record that favorite song on the radio. I was very suprised and pleased with this and am more than satisfied with it. It SHOULD cost more. Though I only paid 198.

5 out of 5 stars Best sounding shelf system available!.......2002-04-11

I shopped a very long time for the best shelf system for the best price. This was one of the first ones I found that really impressed me. The sound is extremely clear, and it has more than enough power for a one-room system. I can't stress enough how great this system sounds! I have only one minor complaint- the CD player seems to take a longer time than normal to read the CDs, but you just have to be a bit patient. This system also looks great, which is an added bonus! Highest recommendation!

    1 out of 5 stars Sounds great....when it works.......2002-02-02

I received this system as a Christmas gift and was very excited. I hooked it up, everything worked except the Digital Input for 5.1 DD surround sound. I have to pop the [thing] open and find out what wrong. I don't know what I did but it then worked great, for about 3 weeks. Then it began cutting it and out 15 or so minutes apart. Each time it cut out I had to walk up to it and unplug the cable, insert the plug again for the sound to come out. Its not my cable either, I have a high quality Acoustic Research cable. Finally, I decided to open it up again and guess what I found, the plastic plug had melted onto the motherboard, causing a short. The sound doesn't work at all now so I have to send it in for repairs. ...

    5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2001-12-22

I love this speaker system. The sound is great and the extra speakers are a real plus. The price is good for how cool a product this is!

I really like this system. It has enough power ot make a home theater, and it has more features than the pioneers do. I tried sevearl brands but aiwa seems ot be the best. I like aiwa's multi-amp idea where the sub has it's own dedicated amp. and so do the mid/tweetwers so the sound is more clear and the subs don't interfere with the hig/mid clarity and the bass is lesss boomy. I tested this in circuit city and it had pepole dancin to my club mix 98 cd I broght in to play. this system is really good and I reccomend it to anyone who likes aiwa and gadgets

Aiwa uses bi-amplification to optimally deliver power where needed. The equalizer comes with rock/pop/classic setting. You can set 32 radio station presets on the tuner. The clock-timer function allows using this system as a clock radio. You can program 20 tracks on the CD changer. The full-logic, feather-touch-controlled cassette deck plays on both transports and records on one. A jog dial speeds and simplifies programming the CD player. The system is supplied with a full-function remote control. This compact system stands about a foot high and packs plenty of sound.

The problem that I have with this system is after I have had it for about 2 years the cd player stoped reading cds! What is the point of haveing a cd player that will not work.

I work at a remote site which provides housing for me every weekend. I needed a small sound system to play CDs and radio, and especially to boost a pitifully small (by today's standards) 13" TV so I would at least THINK I was enjoying it! This system fills the room with sound, and fits into a large nightstand cabinet. I found hookup to be very easy, especially considering that the speakers have two pairs of leads apiece (one pair for the high/midrange component and one pair for the built-in subwoofer). The sound is awesomely solid -- and the three pre-set EQs can tailor most styles of music. Aiwa makes almost no mention of the surround speakers (a single mention in the manual, buried halfway down one page; nothing on the shipping box). I hooked up a pair of small A/V speakers and found that, from the video source, I was getting true surround signals when they were present. My points off are for the cassette decks -- though CDs can be auto-programmed to fit a cassette, it would be very helpful if the recording deck included auto-reverse. But for the price, it's a versatile system that can also double as an alarm clock. It does what I need -- and it makes watching videos on that 13" TV enjoyable!

5 out of 5 stars Great Sound in a Small Package.......1999-11-30

I just bought this system for my mother. She wanted something small that sounded good and could hold 3 CD's. This system also has 2 cassette decks. There are 3 programmed EQ settings from which to choose depending on the style of music you listen to. The display is colorful with lots of moving bar graphs and other information. The unit is very nice-looking and has a high-quality, sturdy feel to it. The real beauty of the system is it's dual-powered subwoofers. Each one get's a dedicated 35 watts leaving a more-than-ample 15 watts per channel for the mid-high range drivers for a sytem total of 100 watts. It sounds great at moderate levels with very clean, deep bass and only suffers at very high levels from distortion due to extreme woofer excursions. It even has outputs for surround speakers. For the size, price, and features of the system it's pretty hard to beat!

    5 out of 5 stars XR-H66MD.......2000-01-12

This is a great stereo system, I highly recommend it to anyone with a portable MD player who is a fan of great quality music. If you dont use MD's, this isnt for you, get something cheeper. Aiwa is the best, Amazon is the cheapest!

5 out of 5 stars I Think Theres Something Wrong With The Price.......2000-01-10

Are you kidding me? This price is unbelievable! Just a 3CD changer MiniSystem with this sound qualtiy should be around 300-350 but then it has a mini disc player and recorder which should be another 100-150. Everything is so easy on this product even recording CD to MD or Radio to MD. I thought dubbing on to MDs might be complicated but its as easy as pressing a button because it is just pressing a button. Seriously, if you have $200 buy this right now. The sound quality is incredible the MiniDisc capabilities are outstanding and the price is outrageous. The price is so good that I saw this product about 6 months ago in the stores at around 450, and if I had 450 then I would've bought it.

5 out of 5 stars Buy it while you can.......2000-01-05

I did a lot of looking for any unit that was an md system, and everything was $300 or more and they were very tiny with pitiful speakers. And this $200 price is only at amazon i checked at another online electronics place they have it for $300, and the list price is closer to $450. This item is no longer being made so you won't find in any retail place other than these massive online stores. This is an absolutely incredible unit, a 5 MD changer and 3 CD, with an array of recording features and options. If you want to get started in Minidiscs this is the way to go, since you don't have to have any other components or attachments to record, like the $30 digital cable for a portable to record. I'm very glad i found this system. With it's 60watt speakers it provides incredible sound, and has several sound enhancing features. Bass boost, BBE(enhances high frequency sound), surround sound features, and an equalizer with four settings. The only downside is the lack of a cassete player, but if you move to MDs you'll find yourself rarely using tapes again. So again my advice is to buy this unit before it runs out for good.

    5 out of 5 stars Total satisfaction.......1999-12-23

I bought this unit and a Sony car MD changer to get away from cassettes. The absence of cassette slots allows a more compact unit, and I just hook up an external deck to record a tape for a friend. Copying one or three of your CD's is one-button simple. Five MD's can be loaded for recording or listening. The manual is comprehensive and clear. I've used the unit in its sleep and wake-up modes as well as making timer recordings of my favorite public radio programs. Can't beat the price. I recommend it highly.

    5 out of 5 stars This a great system.......1999-12-22

this is probobly the cheapest price for the merchandise your gettin and i always rely on amazon. you could not get this system any where else for this price and the last price i saw it was for much higher. you get mindisc recorder and cd player which for just one of each would cost around $400 in most stores. this is a great product if you have the cash you should by it.
