Customer Reviews:
Fantastic device.......2006-03-05
Fantastic device, very convenient, works great! We haven't even unwrapped the cable for attaching our digital camera to our PC because we always use this reader. Well worth it!
Difficult to setup, works great now........2003-08-07
Didn't work when I first connected to my ~2 year old Dell running WinME. Turns out I had to update several drivers. Dazzle online support did eventually come through for me, but it took several hours over a couple of nights to get it done.
Now it works great and I wouldn't want to be without it. So I recommend it for anyone who is knowledgeable and persistent with Microslop stuff, but I would probably not suggest it for others.
It works!.......2003-05-11
I'm using this handy little device on a Powerspec we bought from Microcenter in '99, running Windows '98. By no means a computer genius, I've had no problems with this at all. It's fast, simple, performs as advertised. I like that in a product.
Gets the job done........2002-10-08
I've had this reader for a couple months now, and it's worked without a hitch (under Win98). It's much much faster than the parallel reader I used to use. It's nothing fancy but it's worked for me really well.
Good for tranfers but crashes my computer........2002-08-31
I like the fact that I can transfer the pictures I take with my digital camera without having to plug it into the PC. It is convenient, especially if you have several CF: you don't need to turn off your camera, switch the CF, turn on the camera... and so on.
The only problem I have with this product is actualy when I am not using it. With the CF reader plugged into the USB port, my PC would crash anytime, without any reason. It took me some time before finding out that if I didn't leave the CF reader plugged when I wasn't using it, the problem would disapear. I still use the reader pretty often but I have to plug/unplug it every time.
I use Win Me. I don't know where the problem comes from but I have several other devices on the USB ports and never had any problem with any of them.
One last thing: that would be nice to have a LED to know when the CF is being read/written.

Customer Reviews:
Works fine.......2006-10-11
I have two of these that I use on my Macintosh systems and they work great. They appear to be better built than similar priced devices that I have previously purchased.
Works well with Microdrive and XP Pro.......2006-04-09
I've had this for a couple of years now, and it's worked reliably for me with a 2gb microdrive, and a CF card.
I wish it was a little faster at reading, but it could be the microdrive itself - 2gb is a lot of data, and I tend to download hundreds of pictures at a time.
The included stand is worthless.
I've used it on two XP Pro machines, and haven't had to do any installation other than plugging the cable into a usb port. It's easy to work with. The memory cards show up under "my computer" as extra hard drives.
I note people have reported problems using it with smart media cards, and wouldn't advise using this reader with them.
Works fine using WinXP SP2 with CF & SD cards..........2005-08-01
This card reader has worked perfectly for me from the time I first plugged it into my computer.
Some may not be aware that WinXP and Win2000 (with Service Pack 4) already have Microsoft's USB drivers included in them. So if you are running either of these systems, do NOT install the supplied drivers as they may actually reduce the performance of the device. Try it BEFORE you install any drivers, if it works, then DON'T install them. I have read that you may limit the speed to USB 1 or cause other problems if you install unnecessary drivers; probably you should use the supplied CD only if you are running Win98.
I have used the reader/writer with CF cards up to 512 MB and SD cards up to 1 GB and have had no problems whatsoever; I cannot speak for other media types. Make sure you are inserting the card the right way which is not so obvious: CF cards go in with the label side up, same as in your camera, but SD cards with the label down, and of course with the electrical contacts on the leading edge. This model does not have any indicator lights that show when a card is inserted properly, but I got such a good deal on it I can't really complain about that.
Re some of the complaints in other reviews: the guy who says he put a CF card in sideways and couldn't get it out must be talking about SD cards which are much smaller; I tried and it is impossible to insert a CF card to the point of losing it. Another guy complained about an issue with an unsupported card type. These complaints are totally unfair. If your garden hose got chewed up because you ran over it with your new lawnmower, would you blame the lawnmower manufacturer because they didn't tell you not to do that? If you do something dumb, take responsibility for it yourself, don't blame the manufacturer.
Dont buy it!!.......2005-05-27
I unknowingly inserted an unsupported SM card and Dazzle deleted all photos/movies.
mechanical issues.......2005-02-07
Works fine under Win2K but the problems are mechanical. The vertical stand is useless. Also, do not insert a CF card sideways!!! It will slide in and rattle around forever, until you remove the two screws under rubber feet to retrieve it. Note to Dazzle engineers: block the naive user from inserting the card sideways!

Customer Reviews:
Never worked right . . ........2003-06-05
From the day that I opened the box and took the reader, then plugged it into my computer I could never get it to work right. With a system running Windows XP it normally installs automatically then works like a charm. However, this time it installed but never functioned properly. It would dissappear then reappear at startup.
If you where lucky, it would stay long enough you to try to use it, then you could try to use it. It would then say there there was no card in the drive, then dissappear until next startup.
This also happened with the drivers on the CD. I would strongly avoid this product.
Won't read all memory sticks.......2002-09-24
The Dazzle DM-8100 will not read my 128mb Lexar memory sticks. It will only read the 16mb Sony stick that came with my camera. I emailed customer service. With no response after 3 days I called their 800#. After quite a long wait on hold, they were of little help. They said there might be a patch someday. But, they did not know when.
DAZZLE DUD - WINDOWS XP NOT!!!.......2002-09-04
I've had nothing but trouble with this reader. Claims to be XP compatable but XP rejects it and Dazzle customer support is useless at best. If you have XP stay away.
Lots of 'Blue Screens of Death'.......2002-08-17
Had a great deal of trouble installing this on a Compaq Armada M700 laptop running Windows 2000. It runs on my Dell desktop running Windows 98 fine, but can't get through the install on the Compaq. Online support from Dazzle revealed little/no help (but did reveal a similar problem on Dell's running W2K). I tried what was recommended for the Dells (update BIOS, update to W2K Service Pack 2, plug in without USB dock, etc.) but nothing worked. Phone support was stumped after 2 hours. Tried installing on co-workers Compaq running W2k and had same results.
Same symptoms occurred with Dazzle Multitech's Zio SmartMedia reader.
Love the reader, but onDVD doesn't work at all!.......2002-05-30
The card reader is great! It recognized all my jpeg pictures taken with my Olympus cameras instantly. The best part is, the reader saves the camera battery. I already toss away the useless program that Olympus camera came with, and just use this reader to transfer files. What is going on with all these handicap-version of software that came with the device, only to force one to purchase the additional features later on? ...
The major attraction of Dazzle's reader over its competitor was, the onDVD program that it came with. The program allows me to transfer my pictures into VCD format.
However, the onDVD program that came with my reader has fatal problems. The OnDVD program I got doesn't work at all.
At first, the program did not recognize my CD-R burner. After the explaination from the Dazzle website, I replaced the edi32.dll file as state and got it to write my VCD.
However, the OnDVD still have major problems! ...Currently, folks from Dazzle is trying to fix the problem. I say get this wonderful reader, but knowing that the software still need to fix with a patch later on.

Customer Reviews:
Great solution! .......2007-09-01
I bought this to replace an external USB multi card reader. It's a great alternative and seems to be working well so far (I've only used it a few times). It fits flush with the side of the laptop (even when there is an SD card inside). The only drawback is the whole adapter has to be removed to remove the memory card, and it doesn't read all memory cards.
Great item perfect solution.......2005-06-13
I bought the Sony Vaio laptop but didn't like that it only had a built in reader for their memory sticks only. The Dazzle was the perfect solution to read my SD cards. It's just slides right in the PCMCIA and I am able to use if to read my SD cards. I leave it in the slot so it's the next best thing to a built in SD media reader.
Abysmal performance.......2005-03-04
Will list all the files on the inserted media but for most files when I click on them to open or copy, it then says it can't find the file. Happens most with larger files (3 MB or so) but also sometimes with small files. Adapter is completely useless, I can't depend on it working.
Worked out of the box with Red Hat Linux 8.0.......2003-01-14
It's always a treat to find a device that works out of the box on my Linux laptop. I plugged in the card, did 'mount -t msdos /dev/hdc1 /mnt/flash' and was in business. This was using Red Hat 8.0.
Good Product.......2003-01-05
Very good in performance, can read all 4 format media. Fit all my request. I use it as a floppy disk.

Quick, Small, Perfect.......2006-11-06
I bought this item in a store when I first got my camera. It is incredibly fast, doesn't get hot (like some others I have used), has a protective slip to make sure you don't jar the card, and is sleek and pocket-sized so it is perfect for travel.
Highly recommended!
The ZIO Dazzler reader doesn't read & there is no .......2005-12-20
The ZIO Dassler DM-23300 USB 2.0 portable SD/MMC card reader-writer is easily recognized by Windows XP as a 'removable disk'. The down side is, at least with the product I just received, inserting a loaded secure digital card that can be read by other devices just doesn't register in the device, even after carefully following directions. Zio Corp's technical support link comes up with a blank screen.
