Navagation is horrible.......2003-11-26

First off, the picture quality is great. I have a 53 inch Sony HDTV and the picture is great. There are so many features in this baby you'd get sick trying to tweak it all. The only issue I have is the navagation features are horrible. Trying to fast forward or rewind 3 seconds if you missed something someone said takes 3 minutes to get where you need to go. The remote sucks big time.

my husband received this as a gift about 4 months ago and it died this evening. No power, nothing working. Strange how they manage to make it work within their 90 day parts and labor window. Now? It would cost as much in shipping and labor as it will to buy the new Sony my husband is out buying as I type.

Only good for a year.......2003-09-05

Bought this as a gift for my husband, but we have been too busy to use it. We just started using it to play DVD's for our daughter & crackle pop - out went the power (one year & one month after we got it). It was cheap, but probably cost us $1.50 a viewing if we calculate it out by how many times we used it. Doesn't seem like a great value. On a brighter note - it worked fine when it worked!

Poorly designed, and built with underrated components.......2003-06-28

I gave it 2 since it did work for a few months under EXTREMELY LIGHT USE! I even turned off the hardware power button after each use, but it was pointless since the player still died with only about 50 hours of runtime.

It turns out this player has a very poorly designed power supply unit, that uses underrated capacitators. Apparently this might not be the only Apex unit affected by this, but I think it might be a combination problem with the underrating and the fact that there has recently been a bad strain of capacitators in Asia. Whatever the cause, use underrated capacitators sure doesn't help!

Very annoyed, although hopefully I will be able to get my unit working again after replacing the capacitators. If you notice red lines showing up on your LCD display on the front of your unit and the display is dim, PLEASE STOP USING THE UNIT! Further use will eventually cause the capacitators to explode. If you catch it in time theoretically the capacitators could be replaced, although I don't know if anybody's actually gotten this to work. =(

Had issues with the speakers not working right away, and just after the limited warranty ran out after a year, it began to blink on and off, over & over & over. Customer service was useless. Repair would have been $150 so I just bought a better brand. Avoid any Princeton brand product.

Acceptable, but display died........2007-06-21

Like most others, bought per CU's recommendation. If this was the best of the lot, the others must be really awful!. Sound quality and overall low volume are minor liabilities. The handset display, however, has lost the ability to display entire contents, making Caller ID and Call Return generally useless. AT&T won't replace if warranty expired or repair, so I'm stuck with looking for another entire unit. In response to another review, I've been able to use chain dialing just fine. That's like for the 1-800 number for my calling card followed upon connection with my PIN. There is a pause that can be inserted between the two, giving just enough time to make the through connection.

Horrible phone.......2007-04-30

I bought this phone from a major retailer, and was sorely disappointed. I can handle the 3 clocks (I just don't set them, the handset gets automatically set, and I don't use the voicemail). The phone was very quiet (I have it turned all the way up and sometimes still can't hear). I also had the 'no connect' problem, about 2 weeks after owning the phone. Not only that, but here recently the phone hasn't been receiving calls at all. I've missed some important calls due to this (I use vonage, so I can see when exactly they called, and the phone didn't have it in the CID, nor did it show up with the 'new messages' light). Overall this phone is of very poor quality.

Should have believed customer reviews.......2006-07-28

While someone else said they live according to recommendations by CU, I live by the accumulated reviews of products by customers on Amazon and other sites. There are always a couple of negative experiences on ANY products, but I should have read more closely the negative reviews on this one. My major complaint is that other people couldn't hear me talk! I heard them fine, but several people told me they could barely hear me. I used other phones on the line and had no trouble, so that wasn't it. There's little more frustrating.

Although some of the "features" come close. It's true there are three clocks to set, each separately . . . what a pain. And entering items in the directory IS tedious. THe handset IS uncomfortable (almost impossible) to hold between your head and shoulder. I would live with these bad design features but the volume issue killed it for me.

I thought I was safe with AT&T -- after all, a company with a HUGE reputation, right? Apparently I'm old enough that the heritage of good though expensive service has passed. Extremely disappointing.

Agree with Consumer Reports, a great phone.......2006-03-02

I bought this phone after having many, many other phones that didn't keep a charge, had horrible reception, made loud noises, and had a disconnect button right by your cheek so you hung up on people all the time, so we went to Consumer Reports this time. We are, so far, 100% happy with this phone after 3 months of use. We can understand all the messages, the volume controls are easy to use, the buttons are convenient, and the reception is great. For the price, it is the best we've found.

You can probably do better........2006-02-01

This phone is functional. Unlike others, I've had no problems with the basic operation. Personally, I find the design quite unattractive, but tastes differ. I got it because of good reviews in consumer magazines, etc. and because I needed another answering machine for a second line.

I don't find the sound all that good but it's passable. One problem is it is not very intuitive to set up and there is no speaker phone.

My major annoyance with the design is that you cannot dial people who call you back by selecting their number as this unit does not dial a 1 prefix before these calls. Oddly, when I had it connected to a cable phone line this was not a problem but now that I am back with my local phone company all these calls are rejected. And all the entries I made in the address book in the past are now not usable. As there is no way to "insert" a "1" before the numbers in the address book, you have to redo the whole number. Tedious and it makes adding the numbers of people who call you into a major chore instead of the easy task it should be with better design.
