Incompatible with many sources.......2007-09-21
I am very disappointed with this portable device. I bought it primarily to download audiobooks from commercial audio book sellers or from a libary system in Oregon which rents downloaded books for 10 days. I have discovered that because of the Ipod's proprietary software, programs used by the library system and some of the major on-line audio book sellers cannot be downloaded to that unit. Even such common files as Windows Media Files are not downloadable. THe WMF software for syncing files does not recognize the presence of the "portable device".
dont buy this one!.......2007-09-19
i got the 2gb nano mini in late july. i ran out of storage space soon. screen is too small. less than two months later the new 4g with video is out for the same price with a bigger screen. when i complained to apple, the tech says "well, we all like to keep up with technology don't we?" why would anyone buy this one?
150 for 2GB novid????.......2007-09-17
Why the heck is apple so good? How come after 2 years of telling myself that a better version is comming of the ipod nano and three weeks after I buy the ipod nano 2GB a ipod w/ video 4GB comes out for the same price. I goes to show you how much profit apple makes with their products... I bet a 2nd generation nano 2GB couldn't be worth more than 70$! apple makes us pay twice the price!
At last........2007-09-12
Audible.com made this buy an easy indulgence. I am really enjoying this great little gadget for books, music and podcasts. It works fine even after dropping it on a metal file drawer edge. Guess my ipod is not as fragile as it looks. And it syncs beautifully with itunes. This just makes me more of an Apple snob than I already was. :)
Great but why is this still priced the same as the 4 gig with Video capability?.......2007-09-12
I just bought this 2nd Generation Nano 20 days ago and feel ripped off since the new 4 Gig iPod with Video capability just came out for the same price (around $149). Amazon has a 30 day policy on price and it seems a little dishonest they would keep the price the same to avoid having to refund the difference. Why would anyone buy this for $149 now? Get the 4 Gig with Video capability. No brainer. Why not drop the price on this thing already???

Nano review.......2007-09-24
I love my new Nano. I had a first generation Nano and gave to my grandson. The upgrades on this one are great! Love the color too. Pink is my favorite color and this pink Nano fits the "pink" scene. A very happy customer.
8gb came out the day this one arrived. Dissappointed!.......2007-09-21
The product is fine, however, the new style 8gb came out the day that this one arrived AND ALL FOR THE SAME PRICE!! I guess this has to happen to someone, My turn this time!
Durable.......2007-09-21
I've had it for a few months now, and it's taken alot of abuse. I've dropped it alot of times, once face-down into a 2-inch puddle of dirty water, and gotten it scratched up, yet it still works fine. It's very good. 4 GB is enough. Why would anyone need 40,000 songs??? Unless their downloading illegally... awww...
Review.......2007-09-17
Product seems to work well. Sometimes I have to push some of the buttons a few times to make it work.
My wife is happy .......2007-09-14
I bought the Ipod as a gift to my wife and she is happy, the device is light and easy to wear when you are running, perfect for sports given the size and weight, the only thing that I didn't like is that the manuals don't respond many questions that you can have when is your fist time using and Ipod.

Amazon.com Product Description
Now that you can buy movies from the iTunes Store and sync them to your iPod, the whole world is your theater. With the Apple 30 GB iPod with Video Playback in hand, those movies fit comfortably next to TV shows, new iPod games, podcasts, audiobooks, photo albums, and, of course, an entire library of music--up to 7500 songs. How much can your pocket hold? That's up to you and your iPod, but no matter how you organize it, the iPod holds loads of songs and plenty of hours of video.
Your iPod library can now contain new iPod games, feature films, and up to 7,500 songs.
|
The same great iPod interface and ease of use that goes great in any hand.
|
With all your music at your fingertips, you may never want to stop listening. Lucky thing your iPod plays audio for hours and hours, or if you'd rather watch, you can feast your eyes on movies and TV shows for several hours without draining your battery. And you can count on the iPod to help you pack light. It is almost hard to explain exactly how 30 GB of storage can fit into an iPod that's over 30-percent thinner than the previous fourth generation. However it happened, it means you can carry more music and video absolutely anywhere you go. And with a 60-percent brighter screen, the vibrant display gives your album art, photos, and video extra oomph. As always, iPod makes finding what you want to hear a breeze. Plus, a new interface lets you search your iPod using the patented Click Wheel. And if you're a fan of live albums, classical works, or anything that sounds best when it is played continuously, iPod supports gapless playback that seamlessly transitions from one song to another.
Music, Movies and TV Shows
Finding and playing music on your iPod is simple. Use the Click Wheel to adjust volume, navigate songs, or browse the Music menu by artists, composer, album, song, genre, or playlist. Want to mix things up? Simply click Shuffle Songs. iPod makes your music look as good as it sounds, thanks to its big, bright color display. Album art appears alongside your songs in the Now Playing screen, so you can see your music as you play it. After all, iPod loves music as much as you do.
Now you can watch a movie while waiting in line for tickets to one. Download movies from the iTunes Store, then sync them to your iPod to watch anywhere, anytime. The iPod's gorgeous display--now 60-percent brighter--makes your movies pop. And thanks to improved video playback time, iPod keeps you entertained for several hours--even longer if you reduce brightness using the new brightness control.
As for television programs, there's always something good on iPod. Browse thousands of episodes of your favorite TV shows on the iTunes Store, buy them for just a couple dollars each, then sync them to your iPod. Watch last night's episodes this morning, or buy a whole TV series and settle in for a pocket-size marathon. All your TV episodes display in order, so you can navigate them easily, and every episode you buy from iTunes is optimized to look great on the iPod's crystal-clear, 320 x 240-pixel display.
Podcasts, Audiobooks, Games, and Photos
The iTunes Store features thousands of free podcasts--radio-type shows you subscribe to--including indie favorites and offerings from big names such as, ABC News, Comedy Central, ESPN, PBS, NPR, and many more. Browse and subscribe to podcasts, then sync them to your iPod and listen anytime. Even video podcasts sync to go, and all your podcasts appear in their own menu on your iPod, so they're easy to navigate.
The iPod measures up nicely, and is over 30% thinner than the previous fourth generation.
|
The iTunes Store is the bridge between your iPod and all the content your heart desires.
|
The digital shelves of the iTunes Store are stocked with thousands of audiobooks, including such exclusives as the entire Harry Potter series. Download what you want, sync to your iPod and catch up on your reading the audio way. Just like podcasts, you can browse audiobooks in their own menu on your iPod. And your iPod automatically recognizes where you left off reading and bookmarks your place, so it is easy to dive back into the story. You can even change the reading speed to suit you--this is a perfect feature for learning a new language.
Now that the iTunes Store features iPod games, you can keep hours of fun at your fingertips. Download brand-new and classic games, including Bejeweled, Texas Hold 'Em, Vortex, Mahjong, Mini Golf, Pac-Man, Tetris, and Zuma, for just a few dollars each, then sync them to your iPod and play along with your favorite tunes. All iPod games from the iTunes Store are designed specifically for the fifth-generation iPod, and all of them look great on the 2.5-inch color display.
If you can fill your iPod with photos, then you've got a ton of images at your disposal. iPod holds tens of thousands of photos that you can sync from your Mac or Windows PC via iTunes. Use the Click Wheel to scroll through photo thumbnails the same way you scroll through song titles. To see a photo full-screen, just click the center button. You can even view photo slideshows--complete with music--on your iPod or on a TV via the optional iPod Video/Photo AV Cable. Select Slideshow Settings, choose the transition effect and the music, and then start the show.
Search, Settings, and Extras
With thousands of songs, audiobooks, and more on your iPod, you need an easy way to search and enjoy your collection. A brand-new, built-in search function lets you use the Click Wheel to type out the name of the song, artist, album, audiobook, or podcast you're looking for, and your iPod returns results instantly as you select letters--finding what you want couldn't be easier.
The fifth-generation iPod lets you customize menus, check capacity, change your language, change how your iPod sounds, and more, all from the easy-to-use Setting menu. Click About to see how many songs are on your iPod and how much room you have left. Click Main Menu to select what items appear in your Main Menu, tweak the built-in equalizer, or set a maximum volume limit--everything you need to personalize your iPod, from backlight timer to clicker sound effects, appear in Settings.
And, lastly, your iPod is loaded with extras. Everything from calendars, contacts, and the World Clock appear in the Extras menu, along with a few more handy items. Take the Screen Lock, for example. Spin the Click Wheel to choose a four-digit combination and protect your iPod from prying eyes. If you forget your combo, you can reset it at your next sync. Or use the built-in stopwatch to log your best times at the gym. And when it's finally time to play, the Extras menu lists all your games, including the ones you purchase from the iTunes Store.
What's in the Box
Apple 30 GB iPod with Video Playback, earphones, USB 2.0 cable, dock adapter, case, and quick start guide.

iPod 5.5 vs iPod Classic.......2007-09-26
I have this iPod 5.5Gen while my friend recently bought the new iPod Classic. I have compared the two side by side and I must say that the new Classic sports only a couple of new features against its predecessor. The price is quite a bargain though. The menu navigation on the old 5.5 is a little bit faster than the Classic. I bet this is because of the slideshow running in the background while navigating through the menu. The menus are admittedly very sluggish on the Classic as compared to the 5.5. Good points though are the "scratch-proof" surface, which I think is rather a compromise in looks for functionality. The coverflow concept is also nice but I just wished the hardware could keep up with refreshing the album art thumbnails while browsing. And don't forget to start downloading those album arts.
Back to the iPod 5.5. Well, this device has entertained me during long drives and has made me sleep for the past several months. It definitely never failed to do its purpose. I learned to love iTunes to make playlists and organize my music. But don't hesitate to use third party software like floola when you need to backup your stuff.
The bottomline is: if you are not one of the early jumpers when a new device is introduced, this device is perfectly cool for you. Honestly, I would've still bought this one now even with the iPod classic around.
Be cautious though, since this is a hard drive device. But I bet you already know that.
Better hope it will go out in the first six months.......2007-09-19
I originally bought this IPOD due to the fact that I am in the military and would like to be able to have the options of watching movies when I'm deployed, or listening to music at the gym. And it was great at first, but now it constantly freezes up, will not turn on, and if I would like to get it fixed, I am going to have to pay up to $100 dollars plus tax just to ship/diagnose it since it is older than six months but less than a year. I think that if I'm going to pay a couple hundred dollars for a product, they should at least have full warranty coverage for the first year. Oh and in case your wondering, after researching it, I have found out that my hard disk is shot and the whole IPOD needs to be replaced. So unless I decide to pay the shipping and handling fee, I have a $250 paper weight.
30 GB Ipod.......2007-09-17
I love this device. It has made my entire music collection easily accessible. I don't know any better way to enjoy a music collection. Thanks APPLE for a great product!
Ipod 5.5 Gen.......2007-09-16
This is my second Ipod. I use one in work and the other at home. I listen mostly to audio books. The new one one is much slimmer and has a wider screen. Great Product!

Great External HDD.......2007-09-01
Like everyone else, I continue to add new photo's, music and videos everyday and a large capacity external HDD is more of a necessity than ever. It's also great for scheduled backups for your PC/Mac. I've had this unit for over a year now and have been impressed with its design, (quiet, low heat, firewire, 800/400 USB2) and most of all reliability. 5 Stars for Lacie.
Great for Macs!.......2007-09-01
Excellent hard drive. Great value for all the space. I had it connected to my Mac and up and running in about 5 minutes. No problems or complaints.
Great product!.......2007-06-11
I bought this drive at the first sign of trouble with my laptop. I backed up the data on Saturday and my laptop's hard drive crashed on Sunday. Great timing.
This is my 4th LaCie drive, and they have all worked without any issues.
For those that have experienced their LaCie drives crashing, I wouldn't say it's not impossible, but it isn't typical, either.
My only problem with the drive is the price. Comparable drives are less expensive, yet LaCie continues to charge what I consider to be a little more than they should.
If you can afford it, you probably won't do much better for a solid (heavy) external drive.

Lasts longer than the OEM Battery.......2007-09-20
This battery on average lasts a few days longer than the OEM battery that comes with the RAZR V3, which is good. I usually keep the OEM for back up purposes only on the rare chance that this battery runs low on me. I highly recommend this battery if you aren't interested in purchasing the extended life battery, which is bulkier and requires a bigger back to the V3.
motorola razr battery.......2007-09-10
I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH THEIR SERVICE . IMADE A MISTAKE THINKING I WAS SENT THE WRONG BATTERIES. AFTER ALL THE THE MESS ON MY PART ,THE BATTERIES WERE SENT BACK ,AND EVERYTHIHNG IS GOOD.
Not a good buy..........2007-09-04
The first few re-charges were excellent. One full-charge (over-night) lasted 3/4 days. However, after couple weeks, it needs to be re-charged every single day...not a good one. Suspect the other good reviews from people submitted the reviews too early.
Razor Battery.......2007-08-31
I was leary about purchasing the battery because it cost so little. But I called the vendor and asked if it was a new battery and not used or re-conditioned. The vendor assured me it was a new battery. It has performed well so far.
Invalid Battery Error with 1st Battery.......2007-08-28
I received the BR50 and charged it for about 8 hours before trying to use it. Once I started using it there was no problems for about 2 weeks and then I received an Invalid Battery Error for no reason.
I emailed SF Planet and they let me know they would send me a replacement and a shipping label for the bad battery very quickly, but it took about two weeks to receive the replacement. The slow turn-around time of the battery replacement is why they are at 3stars instead of 4stars. I figure anyone can have a product go bad from time to time. Yes, I would use them again, but hopefully they can pick-up their turn-around time.

Customer Reviews:
I really love it and NUVI is the answer!.......2007-09-26
I bought it about a month ago and it works just perfect!
With the price I paid for this, I am more than satisfied.
Thanks NUVI 200!
Don't waste your $$$ on the Nuvi 200 - Buy a TomTom One instead!.......2007-09-26
This overpriced product suffers from an awkward interface, a dim screen, and a very limited feature set. I also find the routing capabilities far too limiting.
I've traded in my 200 for a TomTom One and couldn't be more thrilled - it costs less (amazon running a blowout sale for $199), fits more easily in a pocket, and has bluetooth connectivity for handsfree calling. In addition it also has mapsharing capabilities which (theoretically) ensure that maps are constantly up to date, though I haven't had a chance to put that feature through its paces.
garmin gps nuvi 200.......2007-09-21
The GPS sent me to a resturant, the Boathouse, in Lindenhurst, NY that closed down in April 2005; a library in Camp Hill, PA that closed down over 5 years ago and to a dead end street in Sleepy Hollow for something else! Several times it would tell me to make a turn and when I would turn, it would say "recalculating". I called Garmin about this and they said that this sometimes happens. I wish I knew all the details of the GPS, I might've gone for the upgrade which allows you to choose scenic route vs highway. When the GPS works on your behalf, it can be fun.
Garmin Nuvi 200 What a sweet unit.......2007-09-15
This is a sweet little unit. I am currently on a 3 week Route 66 trip and this unit has been a confidence builder and a complete help to us. We planned our trip to have no plan. We are driving until we are tired and stopping and seeing the sites as we see fit. Nuvi, as we lovingly call her, has kept us on track as we take side trips, found us gas stations where we did not know they existed, found us fun things to do and great places to eat. Since we are following old 66 we often lose eye contact with the interstate but we asked Nuvi to keep trying to put us on the interstate so we never get lost. She has gotten upset with us a few times for not listening to us but her persistant voice telling us to "Make a U-turn" keeps us going.
She is super easy to use and has held on to the satelites through rain storms and heavy clouds. Every once in a while she gets all confused but I am thinking these are areas where the satelite signals are being scrambled like Air force bases etc. Some new highways she does not recognize and we can almost hear a sigh of relief from her when we get "back on track"
A must for traveling. I am glad I bought her
Garmin GPS Units Really Rock.......2007-09-06
In a nutshell:
- Easy to use right out of the box.
- Touch screen is a blessing. The thumbwheel on the StreetPilots was fine, but the touch screen on these Nuvi's is much faster.
- Even this entry-level unit has a great database of points of interest.
- Excellent volume. Very loud.
- Very compact. Very portable.
- If you have vision issues, opt for a model with a larger screen.
- It would be nice if they supplied a carrying case. You might want to purchase a small, hard-cover case for it.

It's very good. 4 GB is enough. Why would anyone need 40,000 songs??? Unless their downloading illegally... awww...

Extremely Pleased!.......2007-09-26
I couldn't be happier with the Magellan Maestro 4040! It's easy to program and use right out of the box. Directions were flawless every time I used it, even recognizing things like roundabouts by name when I altered the prescribed course set for me. The direction by street name feature takes any last guess work out of travelling. I highly recommend this product!
Nice GPS But..........2007-09-24
Purchased this GPS about a month ago after reading the reviews. Wanted something with good POI information since we travel often. Having the AAA ratings and POI was one of the main things that interested me and why we purchased. So far have really enjoyed this GPS but there are a few issues.
Good things... AAA POI info, Nice loud turn by turn instructions, Bluetooth works well.
Bad things... Having it figure out the best route, it sometimes takes the long way to things. Finding out it is best to use Google Map to get an idea and then use this as a backup. Not to say it will not get you to your destination, but it might add 30+ miles or more to your trip. If you receive a phone call, after the call it does not go back to map automaticly. I think this would be a great feature. The less you have to do while driving the better.
Still, I think this is the better choice of what is out there at the moment. A few good bug fixes and upgrades and this could really be a top notch GPS.
Overall, a very good GPS.......2007-09-23
I've read most of the reviews here and the negative ones tend to center on mounting bracket problems and poor customer support. I bought my 4040 last week and with admittedly limited experience using it, I must say that I have not experienced either problem. Here's why:
1. Preparation - I immediately upgraded the operating system to V 2.24. That probably resolved many previous technical glitches. Next, I downloaded the user manual and read the whole darned thing. Trial and error is easier in the short run, but not a good idea when the tech thingy is not all that intuitive.
2. Mounting - Although the bracket that came with mine was the correct one, I never intended to use it. I don't like the idea of clamping the unit to the windshield or setting it on the dash with a bean bag. And in view of the rash of thefts, I wanted to be able to easily remove it and put it out of sight. Instead, I placed in on the steering column of my 2006 Toyota Avalon, right against the dashboard. To hold it in place, I affixed a short piece of 1/2" foam rubber on the dash face on each side and put longer pieces under and behind the unit to hold it firmly and avoid vibrations. Before I installed them I used some beige spray paint that resembled the dash color. Result is an inconspicuous, snug cradle that lets me remove the 4040 easily when I leave the car. And, it only covers the bottom part of the speedometer and tach - stuff I don't need to see.
3. Tech Support - I am an old hand with computers and have long ago learned that the only way to work with a language challenged tech in New Delhi is to communicate via real time bulletin board text messaging. Completely solves the language problem and lets you get to an answer that anyone can read and understand.
A few other minor points - I use a stylus instead of my fingers to tap the screen and find that it works much better. So far, the only features I really don't care for with the 4040 are the pastel colors on the screen. I find that they wash out easily in a bright environment. I have a factory GPS in my Avalon, but find it is a pain to use - mainly because it employs a joy stick instead of a touch screen for data entry. Also, the voice command input feature is worse than useless. Tell it you want to "Go Home" and it responds with something like "Now displaying gas station POIs". From what I understand, Honda has the best voice controlled GPS system made; one that will let you use complete voice input and do it without error. If Magellan improves their voice command function, I intend to upgrade to it.
Another thing that Maggie is good at is being able to display POIs for food and motels, etc. at the various exit off-ramps ahead while you're on a freeway. You can select one and then ask for guidance to find it - all before you get to the off-ramp. How many times have you been traveling and decided it was time to stop for lunch but by the time you read the restaurant signs by the exit, you were sailing past it? Or even if you did take the right exit, never being too sure which way to turn at the bottom of the off-ramp, while cars piled up behind wondering why those out-of-state idiots are just sitting there.
If pressed, I will admit that Maggie (my Magellan's new name) was pretty much purchased just because it's a fun toy. Even so, I expect to get real use from her once we begin to travel a bit more. I find it very handy being able to program her at my leisure while sitting at home, rather than after I've started the car and everyone's waiting to go. Also, I think we will make good use of the AAA info when traveling. Being able to quickly punch up all the good restaurants and motels in a new area, along with a full description, rate and rating info and phone number, sounds very useful. Especially nice that you can do it from your motel room while you're having a glass of wine before going out to dinner.
I don't know if Maggie will prove to be a satisfactory replacement for an in-dash GPS in my next car, but her price at $350 from Costco is a lot less than Toyota's at $2,500. Maybe the best solution is to have both kinds of GPS. I'll find out in the next few months.
So far, I'll give Maggie a couple of thumbs up and call her a fun date.

Worst customer service in the universe.......2007-09-21
Not only did this product malfunction (which I suppose could happen to anyone) but my experience with what passes for "customer service" was bizarre to say the least. In summary after being told I would receieve service in 2 days, then 7-10 business days and then finally being told (as God is my witness this is true) "the repair department has been shut down for maintenace for two weeks" the most amazing thing is no one at anytime ever apologized or expressed the slightest bit of concern over the fact they have now had my $500+ GPS for going on one month. This is what passes for "customer service" at Magellan.
During the wait I have purchased a Garmin Nuvi 650 and it works just fine so if you are looking I would strongly advise you stay away from Magellan products because if you ever need "customer service" you will be in for one very rude experience.
Huge upgrade over my last Magellan Roadmate.......2007-09-19
This was an upgrade to the Magellan Roadmate 300 (which I thought worked fine but my wife wanted to use it in her car). The touch screen which was gimpy on the 300 works really well on the Maestro. I don't find the text to speech to sound weird, but sometimes it takes the unit forever to say everything it wants to say and you've already made the turn. Still...I do prefer that it nows says the name of the street. Sadly, the unit does not have the UK voice setting (I actually preferred the english accent which was an option on the Roadmate). The unit is up and running as soon as you turn it on - where as the Roadmate took a few minutes to figure out where it was. The unit is a breeze to type in the address. One complaint however is that the suction arm kind of squeeks when the road is bumpy - the Roadmate did not do that.
