1 out of 5 stars Won't Work on Mac OS X 10.3.9.......2007-09-23

The iPod Classic does not work with Mac OS X 10.3.9. If you are running 10.3.9, you have to put up the money for 10.4 to be able to use the iPod. Seeing as how 10.5 is on the way, you get to either wait or buy something soon to be outdated, dropping a lot of extra money either way.

2 out of 5 stars Tired of iPods.......2007-09-23

Six iPods and five generations later, I'm getting tired of iPods. The first iPod was revolutionary. Nano and shuffle both made more or less observable improvements. I tried iPod classic in an Apple store, and wonder, what kind of people would buy it??? Dinosours who just wake up and find iPod? Fashion lagging dorks who finally hear about it? Or... There's absolutely NO improvement in iPod classic comparing to the previous generation iPod video. The "new" productline seems just another sneaky way that Steve Jobs gets $$$ out of your pocket.

It amazes me that most reviews here are left by iPod upgraders (instead of first time buyers). The buggy iPod classic itself is worth three and a half stars. For those who upgrade from the model you bought one or two years ago, 1 star for both iPod classic and your brain. Three years ago, it was hippy to have an iPod. Now, it is your grandma and grandpa who are excited to have finally found it.

Not cool anymore, people.

2 out of 5 stars lots of bugs, dissapointed.......2007-09-23

I had a 5.5 gen IPOD before but decided to get Classic this week since it has larger storage and is thiner. I got it Friday, but I have been disappointed with the issues I encountered.

1) The new IPOD already crashed once and I have to reboot it. I never rebooted my previous IPOD 5.5.
2) Sometimes I connect the IPOD with computer, the IPOD didn't show
the connected sign. Replug the cable didn't help and I have to reboot
the IPOD to make it connected.
3) I upgraded Itunes to 7.4.2 so that I can use this IPOD. The iTunes
told me there is a IPOD software version 1.0.1 available which I expect
they have some patches. But the upgrade failed because of some "1415"
error.

I believe all of those issues will get fixed in the following few months.
But I'm still disappointed, they should have done more testing before
putting it on market.

2 stars for what they did. I'll keep this ipod for 1 more week and will
return it if I still have problems with it.

1 out of 5 stars major problems with thumbwheel.......2007-09-23

I strongly urge anyone considering this product to do a test-drive first. Apple has redesigned the thumbwheel and it just doesn't work properly. Its virtually impossible to stop on the desired album or track. Also, the album art is a disaster - images don't load timely and as they do, it causes the flow to freeze and then release 10 albums away from where you were trying to get to. The Nano doesn't have this delay issue, so it must be related to the hard-drive slower access times. But both the classic and nano both have the same redesigned thumbwheel that is very hard to control. I was completely frastrated with my experience. I'm not going to recommend another product, just don't buy this or the redesigned Nano.

1 out of 5 stars Won't work on W2K.......2007-09-23

Amazon should put "WON'T WORK WITH W2K" in bold type beneath this product. Finally got the great looking new iPod only to find I really have a $350 paperweight. Had NO idea that Apple has totally removed the capability to run on W2K until I tried to install the software (Amazon, you should have put a warning somewhere). Spent several hours searching forums and looking for 3rd party SW to make it work but found nothing. I have way too much $ invested in SW that will not run under XP to switch operating systems. Apple, gotta give you credit, you can shoot yourselves in the foot better than any company I know of (except maybe Microsoft). Don't need to worry about the competition, you can lose customers all by yourself.

3 out of 5 stars Not Impressed! Apple could've done better.......2007-09-24

I have had mine for a week and I've noticed it is slower than the 60Gb and the 80GB models...I've owned all three. The only reason I upgraded to 160Gb iPod was the obvious extra capacity storage. My total digital content has been increasing exponentially with music, audiobooks, photos, movies, TV shows, podcasts and music videos. This 160 GB model is not really 160GB, in fact it is only 148GB when taken out of the box brand new? It seems sluggish when compared to the 60GB and 80GB 5th gene models.

3 out of 5 stars Geat Battery Life- Poorer Sound Quality Then The 5G iPod.......2007-09-23

I picked one of these up about a week ago. Battery Life is DOUBLE what my 5G 60 GB unit has. Unfortunately in a side by side comparison sound quality has degraded significantly compared to my wonderful 2 year old fifth generation unit. I did some research and found out Apple has completely redesigned the Logic Board and is no longer using the old Wolfson Microelectronics chip. The new iPod has a dynamically compressed, tinny, metallic sound that can even be heard thru the cheap earphones provided. There is almost ZERO 3D sense of depth and imaging. The sound is so horrible compared to 5G that you can tell the difference thru every headphone tested except for Bose which has almost zero high frequency response. If someone is new to iPod and never owned a fifth generation audiophile quality unit they will probably not have a problem with the sound though.

When I first got the unit it had firmware 1.00 installed and I experienced extremely sluggish menu response. I updated to 1.01 and response is now much quicker though still not as fast as my 2 year old iPod.

2 out of 5 stars Avoid if you have an older computer!.......2007-09-23

If you have an older PC or Mac, avoid the iPod Classic and go for a previous generation of iPod.

The new iPod Classics are serious CPU hogs when they sync with iTunes. On my 1.8ghz iMac G5, for example, syncing my iPod Classic 160gb takes 7 minutes, even when there is nothing new to sync. Throughout that time, my CPU is over 95%, according to Activity Monitor. This is in stark contrast to syncing my other iPods (gen5.5, gen4), where syncing never uses more than 30% of the CPU.

Windows users report similar behavior (Google for "ipod classic sync crash").

So unless you have an Intel-based Mac (or similar post-2006 PC), stick with the earlier iPods.

3 out of 5 stars Don't Upgrade Software!!!.......2007-09-22

I got my iPOD Classic yesterday and was impressed with the packaging. It reminded me of a very very expensive perfume like you buy on 5th Avenue or even Champs Elysee in Paris. I have never owned an iPOD before but had owned several Zen mp3 and video players. The styling of the 160 GB Classic is very impressive, and the player worked with iTunes right out of the box. Unfortunately when I connected with iTunes the second time it suggested a software upgrade. It did have a provision to undo after the upgrade , which I guess should have been warning enough, but I upgraded anyway. What a horrible mistake! Apple took a 2 hour bite out of my life before I could finally get the restore to work. Now everything is fine again, but I have to say that if the packaging reminded me of a very expensive perfume that the iTunes software really STINKS!!!

1 out of 5 stars don't buy the 6th gen ipods...read why.......2007-09-22

Apple is pulling a clasiic Microsoft tactic here by making the 6th gen ipods NOT backward compatible for no apparent reason other than to force you to pay more to upgrade your OS and docking stations / cables. Plus, the 5.5 gen is faster, and better assembled. From what I am reading here, alot of others are saying the same thing.

Don't buy this item. Buy a 5.5 gen instead.

4 out of 5 stars The second generation Ipod would have done the job just as well..........2007-09-21

It seems like, only a few months ago, Apple had just come out with the brand spanking new second generation of Ipod era. Despite this realization, yet again, Apple whips out its new and improved third generation of MP3 players. Most of us would probably see this as a money making scheme created by Apple in which they give the iPod a new look and few minor adjustments, and expect customers to willingly spend an extra 200 plus dollars for a "sleeker" version of what they already have. I, myself, fell for the iPod uproar and, despite fact that my present iPod nano was barely 5 months old, I purchased the new third generation iPod nano without a second thought. But is it really all that better from the previous one? If you're looking for better quality as far as engineering, I see no noticeable difference here. Now, if you're all about the kicks that come with appearance and graphic design, you have come to the right place. The new look is no doubt eye catching and a complete contrast to the previous nano, and the addition of cover flow adds for a more colorful music surfing experience. I find the new movie viewing feature on the nanos to be quite unnecessary. If you want to watch movies on your iPod, then I would suggest the iPod classic which has much more memory. A single movie takes up a good portion of the space on a 8GB iPod and that can subtract a lot from music space. If you're content with whatever iPod you have, don't waste your money. The quality is just the same. You just won't be as hip as everyone else.

4 out of 5 stars Great devise but has some useless features.......2007-09-19

Great unit with good sound and easy to use. But the video function is somewhat useless with the tiny little screen. You have to spend at least another $49 to get the cable to show it on your TV (I have not bought one to validate that the cable will do the trick). Memory too small for video anyway. Also the cover flow comes on automatically and is an annoyance when you are trying to do something else (like set the volume). But if you thought the old nano was a good deal, this is great. Smaller screen with no video to make the devise like an 8GB shuffle (with a smaller screen showing the song, etc.) and would really be great.

5 out of 5 stars Ipod Nano Review.......2007-09-18

Looking at the reviews for this new Apple product, it seems like there are more good reviews than bad. I think there is a reson for that. Apple's philosophy is that is you are going to make software, you should also make hardware to run it and quite frankly I am amazed at what you get in this product for the rpice you pay.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that not only has the outward appearance of this product changed, which I find to be a very stylish form factor, but the menu system and firmware have had some incredible improvements. I think anyone who buys this product and states that Apple is out to get them or their money is an idiot. They certainly can find out all about this thing well before it comes out if they really wanted to and some people are never happy. In this product you get a beautiful well engineered mp3 player that is well thought out. Beautiful menus and features and a super easy interface. In an MP3 player I want simplicity. I want to not be able to screw with the file system. After I'm buying an MP3 player and not a swiss army knife.
Most of the other brands out there may do more or less than the Nano does or the Ipod in general, but it does not do it as well as the Ipod nor as nicely. Everytime I have ever bought an Ipod, I have always thought I had something of quality in my hand and the sales figures prove that year after year beacuse people keep buying them. So the people who put down this product are idiots because every electronic gadget will have its quirks and limitations at one point or another. Apple products are no different. I think the Ipod and especially this new Nano make listening to music so much fun. Thank you Apple!

5 out of 5 stars Video was a great add!.......2007-09-17

The new iPod nano I think was one of the best iPods. It's definitely one of the most enjoyable mp3 players around, and they definitely made an improvement on this one. The best add to the nano I think was the feature to be able to play video. It has a nice sized screen, which is larger than the previous one. The 8 gig hard drive is not that bad considering how small it is. I did buy a case and a couple of accessories to go with it since I didn't pay for my iPod nano. And BTW those wondering how I got it just go here: flingk.com/n21v9v1 Saw it on G4TV and it works that's all I have to say. I definately like the new interface they have for the iPod nano, overall this is pretty much the most reliable iPod.

4 out of 5 stars Apple improves the Nano and delivers an enjoyable player.......2007-09-17

Apple's new nano is designed to improve upon the past models and add some functionality. The improved video, smaller thinner body and updated firmware are enough to make it stand out. The slighly lower price tag is also sure to help sell more units.

The Looks

First the aesthetics. Some people will prefer the gen2 nano's longer body with the larger click wheel. Apple shortened the body in order to limit breaks due to the former generation flexing in people's pockets and bags. The longer nano was prone to bend (and sometimes break) when people put them in their pocket and sat down or moved around.

Another change motivated by durability is the metal face. The old clear composite face was a magnet for smudges and scratches. The new metal face holds up nicer. Be warned though; it does chip and scratch some more, so get a cover.

This unit is also thinner, meaning when after you put it in a cover it will still be thinner than most other players.

Apple does lose some points for the smaller click-wheel being awkward. It's a trade-off.

The Sound

Sound quality is not significantly improved from previous models. The slight improvements touted in Apple's marketing are exagerated. However, let's be fair to Apple here. They are not alone when it comes to high cost MP3 players with only moderate fidelity sound.

Almost no MP3 players are actually designed for audiophiles / musicians / sound engineers; i.e., the people who could tell the difference between good sound and great sound.

Keep in mind also that MP3 is a compression technology that does experience quality loss. Particularly, with a lower bitrate your MP3 files will lose more and more of the sound integrity from the original recording. Combine that with the fact many people rip from CDs that are not digitally mastered, and you would get inferior sound quality with any device.

Features

Other than the changes in the body design, not many new features are noteworthy with this device.

There are some changes in the components and software that do make the screen brighter and allow you to do more things, including watch videos and play games. Some complain there isn't enough memory for video. But you can still get enough on here for a cross-country flight. It's a nice extra even if these nanos don't have tremendous memory.

The flash memory in this device could have been a higher speed. However, the main advantages of the flash player are still here: less risk of hardware failure associated with a hard disk drive player (better for running or working out).

The device does seem to have a slighly shorter battery life than advertised. Perhaps there is a trade-off with the shorter form factor. Few users will notice this as they are still likely to get a day's worth of use from a full charge.

Apple's software is still a weakness with very limited direct control over your device library and few file options. However, most users have limited needs and will not notice. Apple hits the minimum compatibility needs of most of the market.

Coverflow is little more than a gimmick. It's still buggy and covers tend to blank out if you scroll quickly. Cover art has been downloaded with previous software versions and with other players, so the ability to scroll covers is not really a breakthough.

Keep in mind that the iPod actually still has less features than most competitive devices. It doesn't have a radio tuner, voice recorder, bluetooth, WMA support, etc. But what it does it does well.

Overall this device is an improvement. Apple really wins with sleek design and a wealth of accessories. This unit is no different. While it is not perfect, none of the competition is good enough to dominate it any time soon.

5 out of 5 stars I hated this thing until..........2007-09-23

I didn't think there was anything I could like less than *pod+*tunes. A few years back, I received little Nano as a gift, and one day it committed suicide by jumping out of my pocket into a bucket of water. I saw little Nano's demise as my chance to escape into something better. No Way! Rhapsody and the Sansa firmware made me long for little Nano back...until I discovered ROCKBOX!

For those of you that don't know, RockBox is open source firmware that will run in the player in place of the Sansa firmware (it also runs on several other mp3 players, including *pods). It is great, and its free! It's a bit technical, but these things are not toys are they?

For those of you who are whining about this player, its time for you to go back to school, and study ROCKBOX!

1 out of 5 stars MP3 freeze.......2007-09-19

My daughter was so excited about getting this MP3 player as a friend has the same one but 2 GB instead of 8. She has been disappointed as the MP3 player keeps on freezing up and she has to play with buttons just to get it going. I have bought SanDisk products before and am just hoping that this is a "dud".

4 out of 5 stars Great Player and unique product.......2007-09-19

This mp3 player is a real bang for your buck. It includes everything you could possilby want in a mp3 player. Its got a picuture viewer, video player, fm tuner, fm recording and voice recoring. Not only is it a large size 8GB flash drive (which is lighter and longer lasting than a hard drive), but its got a expandable micro sd slot so that the total storage can be increased to 10GB. Only downside only music can be stored and acessed from the micro sd card. Another great thing about this player, the battery is user replacable. You can buy the kit and replace the battery ourself. This way you can increase the already long playing time of close to 20 hours or you can increase the longevity of your player. The player is extremly light and compact and very easy to use. I purchased this player after my 2.5 year old dell pocket dj went dead on me. One of the main reasons my previous player died on me was that it was hard drive based player and had more moving parts and wouldnt last as long. I was also able to buy the sansa for $50 cheaper than I purchased my previous player. With many more feaures and advances. If you want a real alternative to the ipod than the sansa sandisk is the way to go. You get much more feaures, lower price and are not restricted to only itunes for your music purchases. The sansa works with many online music stores like: rhapsody, napster, yahoo, etc. The player can also be used as a portable hard drive. Also has a good variety of accessories, like cases, docking stations, etc. Only a few main downsides: theres a 15 second start up time, the user interface takes a little getting used to, but overall its a great buy and an awesome product.

5 out of 5 stars Sandisk.......2007-09-18

I love my SanDisk. It is so great. The sound is awesome. I have only used the music and and FM radio. I am so glad I bought it. The price was perfect and it arrived quickly!!

4 out of 5 stars Can't wait for the 16gb Sansa View. This one's nice, but..........2007-09-18

Let me open up by saying the sound quality on these is excellent, and the latest firmware (.18A)makes for a usable player -- but that's it -- just usable.

Playlists are a bloody nightmare. Needs 3rd party utils to make playlists. When playing from a playlist, and one goes back to the music list, the present position is lost. Also, when selecting a playlist, response lags. Fixable in firmware, I suppose -- they just haven't gotten around to it.

Controls are sketchy, single-hand operation not that good.

Fit and finish could be better. There are sharp edges where the back meets the front. There's a sharp edege at the back, down where the USB cord plugs into the player. These sharp edges detract from the feel of the instrument -- instead of feeling well-made and expensive, it can feel cheap.

I'm sure their next effort will be a five-star affair. That is, if they've listened to their e200 series customers.

Overall, usable, acceptable -- but not stellar. The sound, however, *is* stellar, and so is the portability.

4 out of 5 stars Good bass and noise-reduction, almost-awkward feel.......2007-09-21

Pretty good bass,
pretty good noise cancelation,
only complain is, i get the feeling like my ears are totally blocked when i have them on.
pretty good in all aspects

1 out of 5 stars I Want My Money Back.......2007-09-21

The quality was ok but after a week i saw like a crack with like a burn like mark. After 2 weeks one ear stopped working, then 2 more weeks the whole thing just stopped working. Not to mention it's not very comfortable and don't even think about making someone have a listen(ear wax all over your stuff)

THis product sucks.

2 out of 5 stars Caution if you have small ears...........2007-09-21

I have small ear canals and even when using the smallest pads they would slip out of my ears. Having to constantly reinsert them was a real hassle as I walk in the mornings. The sound quality is ok but nothing special. I finally bought a pair of Koss headphones and they work much better. I cannot recommend this product based on my experiences.

2 out of 5 stars Broke down after a month.......2007-09-18

This does work pretty good at first...
My lab work is quite loud and I needed to increase the volume to 15, but with this only max. 5...
BUT it broke down after a month's use...
I am very disappointed, but will try another product from a more known manufacturer.

1 out of 5 stars You can do better.......2007-09-18

Some of the reviews for these headphones are pretty good. I was surprised, then, to get them in the mail and find them to be unsatisfactory.
The sound is very thin and lifeless--I had to use the EQ settings on my iPod to get anything remotely decent-sounding out of the headphones. Switching to any of the three included earpiece sizes didn't make a difference. Most shocking of all was the realization that the headphones that came with my iPod (free, essentially) sounded vastly superior.

Worth $20? I'd say no.

4 out of 5 stars Very happy with this camera.......2007-09-22

I already have a Canon Elan IIe, but it's time to go digital. While looking into digital SLR's, I saw that this was the best bang for my buck. Tons of features and a great price. When you compare it to its competition, the Nikon D80, the price is a lot better. It seems that with Nikon, the price gets raised a bit due to its name. But that doesn't always mean its better. For my needs, this is great. It's good enough for a beginner and is more than enough camera if you decide to grow and get more into photography.

My only problem was when I got the camera, it seemed to underexpose pictures. I literally had to keep the exposure compensation up about a stop or so to get normal looking photos. I looked online and saw this was a big problem with a lot of people, so I returned the camera and had a new one sent. The new one is fine and works perfect. Unfortunately, when I called Canon they denied the problem even though it's all over the web on every forum and review. But hey, the new camera is fine....must have gotten one of the bad ones. Maybe they're working on it, who knows.

Also, the kit lens is just OK. It's a bit slow, but for the price I don't expect a 2.8 or 1.4. Maybe consider buying the body only and using the extra money for a better lens.

All in all, I'm happy with it!

2 out of 5 stars Advertise photo is not accurate.......2007-09-19

My wife acquired this camera for my birthday. I was disappointed when I open the box there was no lenses. She was fooled by the photo about this product. Although it stated "Canon Digital Rebel XTi 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Black Body Only)" but the photo doesn't reflect that.

5 out of 5 stars Canon Digital Rebel.......2007-09-19

Is a great camera, very good resolution and easy to use, very good seller's support.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent images, good ergonomics.......2007-09-19

I've had my XTi for just over a month now (bought from Amazon) and it's really improved my photography. Others have even commented that I've "shifted to a new gear". Features are a nice improvement from the DSLR-wannabe I had before (Panasonic FZ30) but it's the image quality that's really the big step up. Get the best-quality lenses for this (*not* the kit lens) and you'll be very happy.

Pros:

* Image Quality
* Ergonomics (most common settings are easy to change, good displays)
* Battery life (200 shots with 50% flash and battery still said 100%)
* The user manual is decent, though not stellar.
* Long exposure noise reduction feature is very good.
* Good set of customization options (though the manual doesn't explain them enough).

Cons:

* Canon's organizer/editor software, Digital Photo Professional, always crashes on my Windows PC and technical support was no help.
* Hand grip is too small (height and volume) for my large hand. Make sure you handle one first. I had to train myself to squish all three fingers into the space provided so my pinky didn't hang off the bottom. This is a real step backwards from the original Digital Rebel.
* Some settings that I use a lot are hidden too far in the menus.
* Sensor dust cleaner won't get everything. I had to manually blow dust off the sensor (with a blower, *NOT* my breath!) about 1 week after I got this, though no sensor dust since.

Conclusion:
I'm *very* glad I bought this camera and look forward to many years using it.

BTW, Amazon farms this order out to another vendor, so you won't get free shipping and you'll have to contact that vendor separately to get an order tracking number.

If you care:

You can see my photos with this camera on Flickr at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stewstryker/

I ordered the body w/o the kit lens, and instead got the Canon 17-40mm L zoom and the Canon 70-300mm IS zoom. At some point I'll add the Canon 50mm 1.8 lens.

5 out of 5 stars Canon XTi--tougher than it looks.......2007-09-17

I'm sure many readers will have seen any number of reviews that cover the Canon XTi (400 in Europe) extensively. I bought mine purely as a way to take pictures while on vacation and not risk my higher end Canon bodies and lenses. My thinking was that if an accident happened or someone stole my camera, I would not lose as much in value.

The lifespan of the shutter is problematic and I've probably shot a fifth of the number of shutter releases the camera is expected to have in the last four months. And, so far, no camera snatchers have made a go at it. I got the silver body just to make it look less professional.

The big surprise for me is the camera's toughness. In my travels I have taken one hard spill where the camera went flying and, at another time, I accidently whipped the camera off my shoulder and sent it spinning away. Both times the camera hit the concrete hard.

Each time, after picking up the camera with some worry that it had met its demise, I found that it worked the same as before.

Now I should add that I had a Kirk Enterprises base plate mounted on the bottom of the camera and it shows the only scrapes that I can find, so it must have been the point of initial impact both times. That does not change the fact that the entire camera took hard shocks each time. No lens damage either with the 17-85mm IS lens.

For those of you who may think of the Canon amateur SLR as too plastic or too fragile--think again. Personally, I wonder how many frames I can shoot past the 50,000 mark before the shutter actually dies.

4 out of 5 stars The Verdict.......2007-09-24

I like this product well made have used alot since i have bought the product and its worth its value.

5 out of 5 stars Best Xbox controller made.......2007-09-17

This is the real thing, only a better price than anywhere else... Get one, it's awesome to play on the couch with nothing to trip up the dog as he strolls by the TV.

5 out of 5 stars It's just a controller.......2007-09-14

It does what it's supposed to. It's got great communication with the X-Box 360, and I don't know what else I could review.

The buttons feel awesome and responde to my touch! The joy sticks feel great and also work as a button when you push them!

Whatever... you get the point.

5 out of 5 stars flawless, black.......2007-09-09

Based on the old Xbox S-controller with added bumpers. This controller can turn on/off the 360 remotely, act as a remote, works on a PC, connects to a headset, etc... It rumbles -- the $600 PS3 doesn't. It connects FLAWLESSLY. Never fails to connect and the connection never drops, ever, even though it's wireless. Battery life is extremely LONG - you'll be able to use the thing forever without recharging. Attachements exist for charge & play, Accessories for quick charge. Options for regular or rechargable batteries.

3rd party wireless controllers for the original xbox SUCKED! The connection dropped, they would malfunction. Everything about this 360 controller is right!

5 out of 5 stars Great design, and it's worth going wireless.......2007-09-07

The design of the XBox 360 controller is great. I like the button layouts, the placement of the analog sticks, and the inclusion of the triggers on each side. The directional pad leaves a little to be desired, but that's a fairly minor shortcoming. And it's nice to have the big green 'X' in the middle to bring up the XBox dashboard at any time. This particular controller is wireless as well, which I consider a must these days. Why use a wired controller when the wireless offers a range of 30 feet and can be used with a rechargeable battery?

Supposedly this controller will run over 30 hours with a set of AA batteries, but I'd recommend just buying the battery pack and either charging it with a Play and Charge Kit or a Quick Charge kit. This will allow uninterrupted gaming as you can charge the controller while you're playing it simply by plugging it into the Play and Charge. Definitely worth it.

One note--many retailers offer the black controller for the same price as the white one. They're essentially the same thing--if you want the black it's worth your time to find someone who will sell it to you for the same price as the white ones cost.

bulkier than it looks, and it feels like a toy. not very solid at all, and the pics aren't that amazing either.

5 out of 5 stars My girlfriend love it!.......2007-09-21

I purchase this camera for my girlfriend for her birthday and she absolutely love it! after try the camera for a couple of minutes I end up buying one for my self (on a different color of course) the same model in black looks awesome, very high resolution, perfect size, good zoom, and the metal finish look really sleek

1 out of 5 stars Lens got stuck had to return.......2007-09-18

I bought this camera and loved the look of it, the feel of it, the photos, the size . . . all until, within 2 weeks of buying it and without anything at all happening to the camera to provoke this problem, the lens stopped opening. I would turn on the camera, it would start up but the lens cover would not open. I would turn it off and turn it on again and it would sometimes open the second time and sometimes not. I loved the camera so much I thought I'd give it a day to "sort itself out," but it just got worse. So, I'm sending it back and going to try to find a suitable replacement for what the camera was before it broke.

4 out of 5 stars Perfect Size.......2007-09-18

My daughter wanted a new camera for college. It had to be slim, and easy to use. Sony DSCW55 had very good reviews from previous customers. Picture was clear and didn't break or have problems after a few months of use. She loves it.

2 out of 5 stars Great while it lasted!.......2007-09-13

I purchased this product in February of 2007. It is now September and I have not been able to use it since July. One day it just started acting really weird, the power button was flashing, which means the battery is dead, but even after repeated charging it still would not work. I purchased a new battery to see if maybe something had happened to the original one and it still did not work. Per Sony's customer support I sent it to their camera repair center. Of course, they called me and told me that they could not duplicate the problem. I told her that it would work for a short period of time only with a fully charged battery and she said the technician would wait a while and try it again.
It came back 2 days later and it still doesn't work.
Sony's customer support, in Tel-Aviv or wherever, told me to send in my charger to the same repair center since they claimed my camera worked correctly. That came back as well, apparently they don't fix accessories. The customer service guy told me that they usually just tell people to buy a new charger, which is $59.99. The "accessories" are supposed to be under warranty as well though, so why should I pay for another charger when the one they gave me is faulty?
Now I have to send my camera back to the repair center, again, so they can fix it for real this time. Meanwhile, my camera still doesn't work, 3 months later.
I will never buy a Sony product again, after all this BS. I have to pay to ship it each time as well, and I am fed up!

2 out of 5 stars Good at first but not for long.......2007-09-21

This armband worked great for a couple months but then the elastic started breaking down. It's not made for small arms in the first place so after a while it got really loose and not too comfortable. Also it's open on the front and top so no working out in the rain. :(

4 out of 5 stars mostly good, could use some improvement.......2007-09-21

I've been pretty happy with this product, especially considering the price. My only qualm with it is that the elastic has started to loosen slightly after about a month of consistent wear. As another reviewer mentioned, it's hard to stick your earbud and cable cords into your Nano because the rubber on the bottom gets in the way. However, I just took a pair of scissors and cut a tiny bit away from the slits and it works just fine. When I'm not using the armband for running, I just slip it off, leaving the rubber case around my Nano to protect it. All in all, it's not built to last forever, but it's decent.

5 out of 5 stars perfect!.......2007-09-20

Exactly everything I was looking for; entirely envelopes the iPod Nano for security and protection without covering the wheel, has a protective film for the screen, and the armband is perfect size. So for those of you complaining about it being "too big" either you have not set it up correctly, or your arm has an unrealistically small circumference (FYI: I am a female triathlete). Lift some weights!

1 out of 5 stars Made for Big Foot.......2007-09-17

While the overall functionality of this product is good - it cannot be adjusted to fit my arm. For bodybuilding men only, or bigfoot.

4 out of 5 stars Could be Better.......2007-09-16

First of all it does it job great, only thing I would change is the actual ipod holder. It is cheap and doesn't quite fit right. Other than that, for the price, it does exactly what it is supposed to.
