2 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment.......2007-09-26

I bought new iPod classic 80 GB yesterday and a day later I think I am ready to return it. There are several problems with this iPod. If you never owned iPod before you may not notice these issues. However, if you owned iPod video or iPod photo you will be greatly disappointed.
Things that I don't like:

1)You can't enlarge album artwork anymore
2)The artwork doesn't load immediately when you browse your music.
3)When you browse and click on artist it gives you all the albums that you have and tells how many songs are in each album which I find annoying since I have lots of classiclal music and it doesn't make sense when you read that Mozart's Symphony No.40 has 4 songs.
4) Cover Flow doesn't support all album artwork. Some just won't load on iPod. I don't even bother to talk about that feature. it's useless

However things mentioned above are not major problems. They are very subjective, just something I dislike. The big problem with new iPod classic is its click wheel. When I used my new iPod for the first time I even thought maybe something was wrong with my fingers instead of suspecting that something maybe wrong with click wheel. That's because I had iPodphoto 60Gb for 2 years and it worked exceptionally well. But after reading all negative reviews online I realised that everyone has the same problem with click-wheel. How can Apple allow this to happen when they always brag about their patented clickwheel in the ads is beyond me. It's just a shame. I like the design and the bright screen of new iPod but who wants to wait for music to load for five seconds or who wants to try adjusting volumes multiple times because click-wheel simply doesn't feel your touch.

Like some other reviewer mentioned here I really wanted to buy iPod touch but 16 GB capacity is a joke in our age.I think Apple is just teasing consumers and will probably release 60 GB or bigger versions of iPod Touch close to Christmas to make huge sales. It's kinda sad what Apple has become...

2 out of 5 stars sluggish reaction time.......2007-09-25

i returned it 2 days later, after i've found out ipod nano and old ipod are more responsive. how come apple allow supposedly new products to be released with less impressive user experience than the one they hope to repalce...

4 out of 5 stars Not as bad as people are saying........2007-09-25

ok, so people are griping a lot and worried apple is flopping and giving their customers the old one finger salute. I bought this, trying to be as open as possible, and this is what i found.
The click wheel- Not as bad as some are saying. It is not perfect, but after an apple update or two it should be fine
- Cover flow. Its true, it doesn't update fast enough; however, i don't care much for the concept and will probably never use it... I imagine most will be the same.
-Battery life- Great!!! what more can you ask for?
- Incompatibility with 3rd party accessories... ok, understand this gripe, but lets be honest, not all your computer accessories for the 90s fit this nice new HP you just bought. When you think about it, we should have expected this some time. granted i have less to gripe about than others since i haven't had an ipod since my gen 4 died 2 or 3 years ago, but if you search the net, I'm sure buying a new cable hear, or there wont kill you. Then there is the problem with games not transferring over. Its true, the games you bought for your gen 5 video wont work on the classic.... Its 5$... is it really that big of a deal? if i wanted cheap i would have gotten a zune, and if your really that concerned, maybe you should. I think a lot of the gripes we are seeing are a little overdone, and if you really think about it... look deep deep down inside of yourself, you will see it makes sense. lets look at the pros
- 80 gigs at $250... it must be my birthday
- that new brushed metal finish, mmm mmm mmm, it just feels nice. not fingerprints either.
- regardless of what i have read on a few forums, all my cover art transfered in rather well (minus a few rare cds that i didn't expect to show up)
- the amount of time it takes to charge is great!
- its not made by Microsoft
- itunes is the MOST intuitive way to handle mp3 tags that i have seen inside of a mp3 player client
---
cons
the click wheel is a bit awkward at first when compared to previous generations BUT it is not as bad as others will make you think
no case, but who cares, you can get em cheap off ebay
---
So if your like i was and are really worried about getting this because of all the bad reviews, dont worry... remember, no piece of technology is perfect in its first days, it takes a few updates to get it righ, and im sure Apple is working hard to perfect its product and continue to dominate the MP3 market (for good reason too)

4 out of 5 stars So far so good..........2007-09-25

I purchased this ipod as soon as they became available at Apple stores. The main problems that I have encountered so far is of course the clickwheel not being as sensitive as previous ipods. I tend to wear my ipod on a belt clip, and before if I had a t-shirt over the ipod, I would be able to adjust the volume over the shirt. However, I can no longer do that. But that's not a big issue. The other problem seems to be with the USB connections. Sometimes when I sync my ipod or try to charge it, I have to adjust the USB cord a little bit to make a connection. It's a bit aggravating but manageable. The cover art flow does lag but fully loads in about 2 seconds. I don't mind waiting that long. The positives in regards to this ipod are of course the 80G space (my previous ipod was a 30G), the cheaper price (my 30G ipod was $300 when i purchased it) and a sleeker overall feel, whether it's the main menu flowing cover art or browsing by category. In the end, I am satisfied with my purchase, so far. Luckily, I haven't crashed yet.

4 out of 5 stars Quality but certainly not perfection.......2007-09-25

I love my iPod, but I also understand it's not going to be for everyone. My primary reason for purchasing this product was to store lots of movies and music for travel. If you don't mind the tiny screen, it's great for a personalized flick on the airplane. And my entire music collection fits on the hard drive with a lifetime's growth that could still be added.

I've noticed people complaining about crashes, rebooting and the redesigned thumbwheel. I have no issues with these items. I have no issues with the music quality.

I do not like DRM or the fact that this iPod requires a special $50 cable to activate TV out features. That's a load, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me since I don't really plan on using mine for watching movies on a larger screen. For a man who can remember paying $400 for 4MB of RAM about a decade ago, I feel like I got a decent deal. I'm a fairly satisfied iPod owner.

This iPod will scratch up immediately. It does not come with a protective shell of any kind. I got mine laser etched with "ad vitam paramus" and I like scratches - they add personality like scars do.

1 out of 5 stars iPod classic has big problem with tv out function.......2007-09-24

The new iPod classic has a big problem for all users of the photo and video functions. You cannot display photos, videos or video podcasts on your TV screen, as you cannot change the TV out function on the iPod from OUT to ON. If you want to see your videos fromthe iPod on the TV screen, then do not buy the iPod classic until Apple has fixed this problem.

3 out of 5 stars Not Impressed! Apple could've done better.......2007-09-24

I have had mine for a week and I've noticed it is slower than the 60Gb and the 80GB models...I've owned all three. The only reason I upgraded to 160Gb iPod was the obvious extra capacity storage. My total digital content has been increasing exponentially with music, audiobooks, photos, movies, TV shows, podcasts and music videos. This 160 GB model is not really 160GB, in fact it is only 148GB when taken out of the box brand new? It seems sluggish when compared to the 60GB and 80GB 5th gene models.

3 out of 5 stars Great Battery Life- Poorer Sound Quality Then The 5G iPod.......2007-09-23

I picked one of these up about a week ago. Battery Life is DOUBLE what my 5G 60 GB unit has. Unfortunately in a side by side comparison sound quality has degraded significantly compared to my wonderful 2 year old fifth generation unit. I did some research and found out Apple has completely redesigned the Logic Board and is no longer using the old Wolfson Microelectronics chip. The new iPod has a dynamically compressed, tinny, metallic sound that can even be heard thru the cheap earphones provided. There is almost ZERO 3D sense of depth and imaging. The sound is so horrible compared to 5G that you can tell the difference thru every headphone tested except for Bose which has almost zero high frequency response. If someone is new to iPod and never owned a fifth generation audiophile quality unit they will probably not have a problem with the sound though.

When I first got the unit it had firmware 1.00 installed and I experienced extremely sluggish menu response. I updated to 1.01 and response is now much quicker though still not as fast as my 2 year old iPod.

2 out of 5 stars Avoid if you have an older computer!.......2007-09-23

If you have an older PC or Mac, avoid the iPod Classic and go for a previous generation of iPod.

The new iPod Classics are serious CPU hogs when they sync with iTunes. On my 1.8ghz iMac G5, for example, syncing my iPod Classic 160gb takes 7 minutes, even when there is nothing new to sync. Throughout that time, my CPU is over 95%, according to Activity Monitor. This is in stark contrast to syncing my other iPods (gen5.5, gen4), where syncing never uses more than 30% of the CPU.

Windows users report similar behavior (Google for "ipod classic sync crash").

So unless you have an Intel-based Mac (or similar post-2006 PC), stick with the earlier iPods.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent case!!.......2007-06-04

I really like this case. All the openings are cut perfectly, precisely outlining the screen, wheel, and connectors. It perfectly fits my ipod video. It's soft and comfortable to hold. I am happy with it.

    4 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars...well, what do you expect for 6 bucks?.......2006-07-27

There's not a snowballs chance in hell that I would spend $100 extra on some fancy case for my ipod, so I just bought the cheapest one I could find. My compliments and complaints are basically the same as the reviewers below me...the good things are that the screen and click wheel are well protected, and the holes for them are exactly the right size. The flap snaps shut magnetically, so it's nice and secure. The case is well-built, and designed to last for a very long time. However, the case is a little roomy, which causes the ipod to slide up and down a little...not a big deal. The hole on top for the hold button doesn't really give you much access to the hold button. It's a lot easier just to open the flap. Once again, not a big deal. Unfortunatly, the belt clip design is horrible. There's a little screw that sticks out in the back that the clip attaches to. It's anoying, but at least you can unscrew it and take it off. What got me really mad was that the belt clip spins around in circles, which unscrewed the screw, which caused my ipod to fall off. My ipod is ok, but I was pissed nontheless. My advice: if you want something to protect your ipod while jogging or something, DON'T BUY THIS. You should instead get the case with the armband so your $300+ ipod won't be in danger of falling off and breaking. However, if you're like me and you're not that active, and you're cheap, go ahead and get this.

4 out of 5 stars Cheap but good.......2006-07-27

There are flaws with every case, and the belt clip is not this case's best feature. So if you're a guy and want to clip your ipod to your belt or hang it around your neck (* Alarm Alarm Nerd Alert! Nerd Alert*!) go elsewhere. But if you're a woman and toss your ipod in your purse or pocket, or you're a guy over the age of 30 and carry it in your brief case or man-bag or pocket this case is EXCELLENT. I was purposefully looking for a case that would meet this need and this one succeeds brilliantly.
Also, it's so cheap you can get it in multiple colors--I got the orange.
The construction is very fine, the case is lined with a soft leather (or faux leather). The stiching and cutouts for the ports, the wheel and the screen are precise and perfect.
The case is 'loose-ish' but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I've had previous ipod cases that damged the ipod finish when I removed it, this one lets me take it out without trouble.
Although the cover protects the ipod, I'd recommend putting a clear screen cover on just for extra protection.

2 out of 5 stars That's what you get for going the cheap route...........2006-07-17

Ok, so this is probably not the best protection for your iPod, but what do you want for 6 bucks? I'm cheap. If you're not, buy something more expensive perhaps...

    Pros:
    - It does protect the screen and click wheel nicely.
    - The flip-up top magnetically shuts and holds securely, which I guess helps if you happen to drop it.

    Cons:
    - The belt clip is ridiculous. It's not a stationary clip. Instead it spins around, which makes the likelihood of it falling off your hip greater. This product is not for the joggers.
    - The leather strap that comes with it is too short, which makes it difficult to operate the iPod when it's around your neck.
    - It seems that the magnets leave marks on the areas not mentioned under Pros above. But, as long as you never take your iPod out of the case, no worries.
    - This is made for the 30 GB iPod Video, but it's actually a little big for it. It leaves room for the iPod to slide up and down in the case. It makes accessing the HOLD switch difficult sometimes when the flip-up top is down. It's easier to just open the top.

If you don't care about the cons and you are cheap like me, go ahead and buy it.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome arm band! Great price and fast shipping - thanks!.......2007-09-14

Great material, Great fit, Great price!! Overall this armband is one of the best ipod video/classic armbands out there. I'll never pay $30 + at the apple store or elsewhere again. Do yourself a favor and buy this for your ipod.

3 out of 5 stars Reasonably priced iPod armband has quality issues.......2007-09-06

I decided to purchase one of these armbands after reading several favorable reviews about this product. I do think it is a decent product but it does have some quality issues. I was frustrated because the stitching on the armband broke off when I was doing pull-ups the first time I used it.

I thought that my experience might have been a fluke and so I ordered another armband. This time I did not tighten is so much on my arm and it has held up much longer (I've had the armband for about 3 months). However, the stitching is starting to come out and so I'll probably end up trying a Belkin armband now since I don't want to order a 3rd armband.

One frustrating thing about this armband is that the exposed velcro constantly snags the material on the jerseys that I work out in and it has seriously marred my jersey. I guess you get what you pay for!

    4 out of 5 stars Pretty Decent.......2007-09-04

I have an 80 gig Ipod and I used this product for the last few months. The armband worked pretty well, especially compared with most of the crappy (and more expensive) products that seem to be all that is available for those of us with larger ipods. I have no complaints except that after many weeks of running long distance with it, the velcro band broke off flinging my lovely ipod into the road. I wish I had broken it doing bicep curls or something so I could at least feel like a badarse. That being said, it is very functional and is so darn cheap that I am ordering another one.

    5 out of 5 stars shipped quickly.......2007-08-24

I purchased this as a birthday present for my husband. (He hasn't seen it yet). The company shipped very quickly and it looks as great as the reviews say it works. Great price too.

4 out of 5 stars Great For Guys.......2007-08-09

I have to say I was a little concerned when I read the armband was big enough for someone with 15" biceps. Mine are a bit larger. The armband I purchased at the Apple store was okay but it was tight and when the connector to the armband snapped, I needed to get a new one.

This armband has plenty of room. The strap is long enough to adjust for the thicker part of my arm as well as the thiner. I also love the fact there is an opening at the top for both the headphones and the Lock/Unlock switch. This is a big plus. I'm looking forward to wearing it on my long runs.

Customer Service - the item was on backorder and the company was very good about following up with an email to let me know and also offered a full refund in the event I wanted to cancel the order. They also offered a discount on my next purchase. I'll let others know about this extraordinary service.
