Apple no longer cares about customer satisfaction.......2007-09-27
The thrill of having video capability in a compact form was quickly tempered by my discovery that the TV out option would not toggle from 'off' to 'on' or 'ask.' I tried all the fixes suggested in Apple's support site to no avail. Looking next to the discussion forum, I found another user who had the same problem, but no one had responded to his query. My only other option was to return the Nano to amazon.com for a replacement, hoping the new one would function OK.
I looked back to the discussion forum and now know it is an inherent flaw, not an isolated defect in my first purchase. Whereas my iPod classic can send out the video signal through Apple's A-V cable, connected to the headphone plug, or through the dock plugged into various third-party devices, the new Nano will only send out the video signal to Apple's universal dock, which I do not have and have no intention of buying. In short, my other means of viewing (important with a 2" screen) are not available with this Nano.
There is no reason I can think of that the Nano cannot function just like the classic. I cannot fathom why this change was made or whether it was intentional (due to greed) or inadvertant (due to incompetence). The latter seems unlikely, as the people at Apple are not Bozos. Greed does not make much sense either. The iPod has given rise to an entire industry if iPod accessories made by a host of third parties. Apple cannot hope to corner the market on all of these accessories. They ticked off a lot customers with the iPhone fiasco. Now this. What are they thinking? If I make any more Apple purchases, it will be with a jaundiced eye and very subdued expectations.
Great iPod.......2007-09-21
This iPod Nano is just amazing for something so small and everything it does. Plays music but that is no brainer. Allows pictures to be on the display. I love the cover flow. It has games. I was going to get the iPod touch, I would of had twice the memory. With the video problems with the screen. I decided to give the Nano a look. I was amazed by the video quality. (I am not real critical on things like that) People might differ and say that it is not so good but I think it is. The games are realy fun I really like vortex. I justed purchased tetris. It even has a stopwatch. My only complaint is the controls are hard to use for the games. that is why I only gave it four stars. I am so glad I went with the Nano instead. I waited for years for Apple to come out with something like this. the iPod being fat and small does not bother me at all. The wait is finally over. If you have not already bought this go out and buy this already.
Apple improves the Nano and delivers an enjoyable player.......2007-09-17
Apple's new nano is designed to improve upon the past models and add some functionality. The improved video, smaller thinner body and updated firmware are enough to make it stand out. The slighly lower price tag is also sure to help sell more units.
The Looks
First the aesthetics. Some people will prefer the gen2 nano's longer body with the larger click wheel. Apple shortened the body in order to limit breaks due to the former generation flexing in people's pockets and bags. The longer nano was prone to bend (and sometimes break) when people put them in their pocket and sat down or moved around.
Another change motivated by durability is the metal face. The old clear composite face was a magnet for smudges and scratches. The new metal face holds up nicer. Be warned though; it does chip and scratch some more, so get a cover.
This unit is also thinner, meaning when after you put it in a cover it will still be thinner than most other players.
Apple does lose some points for the smaller click-wheel being awkward. It's a trade-off.
The Sound
Sound quality is not significantly improved from previous models. The slight improvements touted in Apple's marketing are exagerated. However, let's be fair to Apple here. They are not alone when it comes to high cost MP3 players with only moderate fidelity sound.
Almost no MP3 players are actually designed for audiophiles / musicians / sound engineers; i.e., the people who could tell the difference between good sound and great sound.
Keep in mind also that MP3 is a compression technology that does experience quality loss. Particularly, with a lower bitrate your MP3 files will lose more and more of the sound integrity from the original recording. Combine that with the fact many people rip from CDs that are not digitally mastered, and you would get inferior sound quality with any device.
Features
Other than the changes in the body design, not many new features are noteworthy with this device.
There are some changes in the components and software that do make the screen brighter and allow you to do more things, including watch videos and play games. Some complain there isn't enough memory for video. But you can still get enough on here for a cross-country flight. It's a nice extra even if these nanos don't have tremendous memory.
The flash memory in this device could have been a higher speed. However, the main advantages of the flash player are still here: less risk of hardware failure associated with a hard disk drive player (better for running or working out).
The device does seem to have a slighly shorter battery life than advertised. Perhaps there is a trade-off with the shorter form factor. Few users will notice this as they are still likely to get a day's worth of use from a full charge.
Apple's software is still a weakness with very limited direct control over your device library and few file options. However, most users have limited needs and will not notice. Apple hits the minimum compatibility needs of most of the market.
Coverflow is little more than a gimmick. It's still buggy and covers tend to blank out if you scroll quickly. Cover art has been downloaded with previous software versions and with other players, so the ability to scroll covers is not really a breakthough.
Keep in mind that the iPod actually still has less features than most competitive devices. It doesn't have a radio tuner, voice recorder, bluetooth, WMA support, etc. But what it does it does well.
Overall this device is an improvement. Apple really wins with sleek design and a wealth of accessories. This unit is no different. While it is not perfect, none of the competition is good enough to dominate it any time soon.
3.5 stars - Great for some, Not for everyone.......2007-09-11
I buy almost every new iPod when it comes out. I need a 12-step program to break my addiction to new iPods. In the meantime, here are my thoughts on the new nano, which I bought despite being perfectly happy with my still perfect black 8gb 2nd generation nano.
The 3rd generation nano is, like all iPods before, a very nicely designed gadget with an elegant, easy to use interface. The screen is noticably sharper and a bit brighter than the screen of the 2g nano, which is important for video and games. I have not tested the battery life, but tests from credible, objective reviewers (like cnet and ipodlounge) show that the new nano's real-world battery life is even a bit longer than Apple advertises, longer than the 20+ hour battery life of the 2nd gen, and even a bit longer than the more expensive iPod touch.
Yet, this is the first iPod that doesn't really thrill me. I've tried watching videos and movies on it, and the screen is just too small for comfortable viewing. (No surprise here - I never liked watching videos on the slightly larger screen of the 5th gen iPod with video either.) Just as importantly, video files (especially TV shows and movies) are memory hogs, and the 4GB or 8GB capacity of the nano is not enough to hold very many of them in addition to a bunch of songs. (However, this isn't as much of an issue if you're only going to watch short music videos and you-tube videos - they don't take up as much space as TV shows and movies.)
I do not like that Apple shrunk the size of the click wheel for the 3rd gen nano compared to the 1st and 2nd gen nanos. I have long fingers and larger than average hands, and it's just harder for me to use the tinier click wheel. Folks with smaller hands may not find this to be a problem, but I'd encourage you first to see one at a local retailer and see how comfortable you are with the smaller click wheel.
I also don't care for the new form factor, which is shorter but wider than the previous generation. However, this is totally subjective, and many others will like it a lot.
I recently upgraded from $100 earphones to $400 earphones, and I can now discern a clear difference in sound quality between the nano (any generation) and the iPod classic or 5th gen video iPod: the nanos just don't sound quite as good, plus they have a slight bit of background hiss. I think this won't be a problem for most people, who have better things to do with their hard-earned money than buy $400 earphones. But audiophiles should probably avoid the nano and opt for the iPod classic instead.
(There's a second reason why people who are super nit-picky about sound quality might prefer the iPod classic instead: you get better sound quality if you rip your tracks at higher bitrates - due to less compression. The tradeoff, though, is larger filesizes, meaning your device won't hold as many songs. This, again, is where the iPod classic might be more attractive, as it has massive capacity - 80GB or 160GB as compared to the nano's 4GB or 8GB.)
Please don't get the wrong impression: the nano really does sound very good. Most people will not find its sound quality lacking at all.
Despite these mild criticisms, there is still a lot to love about the new nano, and it will be a great purchase for many people. If you are buying it mainly for music rather than video, you get a LOT for your money, compared to previous versions, and other MP3 players. The 8GB version is 50 bucks cheaper than the 2nd generation 8GB nano. The nano is an awesome music player, holds lots of songs, is very easy to use, has a great interface that's a joy to use, and sounds very good through the average person's earphones.
My recommendation is this: The 3rd gen nano is very much worth your consideration if you would mainly use it for music and do not already have a 2nd gen nano. But for people who have a 2nd gen nano, it's probably not worth the upgrade unless you really love the new form factor.
As for me, this is the first iPod I'm returning. It's really quite nice, but for my purposes (mainly just listening to music and audio podcasts), my second gen nano is everything I need, and I prefer its form factor and larger click wheel.

I have had mine for almost a year now and cannot tell you how happy I am with it! I use it at the gym everyday and have to plug it in to charge maybe every other week. Now that I have one and know how good it works I would pay more then the $79 for it.

You Can't Be Serious.......2007-09-23
This camera has all of the features a serious photographer would want: a comparatively large 1/1.7 sensor, full manual controls, almost-useable manual focus, and raw image capability. But that's where it fails miserably. While the industry is trying to standardize image formats, Canon chose to introduce yet another propriatary raw format. Photoshop doesn't recognize it. Both Apple's Aperature and Lightzone can open the file, but the white point is w_a_y off. So one must load Canon's kludgy image browser/image processor (yet /more/ software and disk space and time) only because of Canon's format decision.
This is one of many nice snapshot cameras if you only shoot JPGs. If you're a serious photographer, then save your money in case the Sigma DP-1 turns out to not be vaporware.
And it looks like maybe Canon is distancing itself from this thing; their camera registration link for the G9 is dead.
Plagued by stuck pixels.......2007-09-23
I have bought and returned 3 PowerShot G9 cameras because of stuck pixels.
I really like the features and size of the G9, but I cannot accept it if has stuck pixels.
The first G9 I bought had two stuck pixels in every shot I took: One bright red one near the center and one faint green one about 3/4ths to the right. The stuck pixels were present in the image files. This was a major defect.
The second G9 I bought had a bright blue stuck pixel on the LCD screen whenever the shot was previewed through the LCD viewfinder, but no stuck pixels in review mode (when the LCD was viewing pictures but not taking them), and no stuck pixels on uploaded pictures. This one was strange -- a distracting blue dot on your LCD viewfinder which isn't a permanent LCD display defect but always appears in camera mode. I suspect a software bug or something with the lenses/mirrors which only affects the LCD viewfinder.
The third G9 I bought had a faint green pixel stuck on the LCD. I have not fully tested the extent of this stuck pixel (LCD, CCD, etc.) yet, because I will be returning the G9.
I bought these three G9s from different venues (stores), and all had these problems. But since they were all right after the G9 was first released, it's possible they all came from the same bad manufacturing lot.
Great camera, great features, great size, so long as you don't get stuck pixels.
I've reluctantly switched to a S5 IS. I'd rather have 8 megapixels which work, than 12 megapixels which are a crap-shoot.
More megapixels is not always better, and Canon seems to have spread the pixels too far in the G9.
Caveat emptor.
Crap UI, documentation, and Mac compatibility.......2007-09-23
Come on Canon. I've 'docked' 4 plus digital cameras to my Mac and this is the first one that didn't just work. Also, the UI on the camera SUCKSASS!. Out of the box, I want to throw this thing across the room. This is not my first rodeo, if it was. I'd say, my bad... So far, so bad. I'll load your proprietary software and see if I can actually download some images to my computer. How about you just let me use my computer and my software and not have to download 600k of crappy software, please. I was a Nikon guy and was swayed to Canon for many reason, Clearly; UI, compatibility, and ease of initial use are not something Canon is interested in.
Stay tuned, I'll be back.
Incredible camera; very worthy upgrade from the G7.......2007-09-22
If you're a photographer who cares about image quality, and can't always lug around a DSLR, buy this camera. You will have no regrets.
I've had its predecessor, the G7, for about a year. It has been my normal always-in-the-bag camera. The G7 was limited at ISO 400; the G9 isn't. My normal workflow with the G9 is to use CS3 to import RAW images (fixing chromatic abberation on the way into CS3 in 16-bit mode), and then to use Noise Ninja to clean up image noise. With this workflow, ISO 400 and ISO 800 are completely usable. (You can also play with some other settings in Adobe Camera Raw, like Recovery.)
And for everyone: you really should never, ever use a built-in strobe on a camera. The G9 (like the G7) has a hot shoe. Use it!
Canon fixed a bunch of the G7's problems in the G9, the most glaring of which is the G9 now has a battery meter! (I can't tell you how much that lapse bugged me.) The new LCD monitor is much, much bigger -- and gorgeous. And best of all, the camera body is the exact same size and shape, and fits in my underwater housing. (Update: not all the buttons work. The most glaring problem is possibly the zoom can't be changed, and that you can't change to macro mode underwater. I'll probably get the new housing, but the existing one is functional.)
Nits: the new cover for the USB connector is a downgrade, but one that I can put up with. The lens is unchanged, and has a fair bit of barrel distortion at its widest angle. You can clean up the barrel distortion somewhat in CS3, but straight horizontal lines become slightly wavy. I'm being hyper-picky here, but please know that you're not replacing a DSLR with a prime wide angle lens. You're just buying a small camera that you can take anywhere.
Buy it. Shoot lots of pictures with it. Be happy!
Very good.......2007-09-22
This model isn't currently available in my area (DC) but I got it in less than 24hrs after ordering on Amazon (this was with FedEx Ground!). The camera is well built and the controls are easy. So far the picture quality is excellent in all the test shots I have taken. I recommend this camera to anyone with more than just a passing interest in taking pictures.

Best Bang for the Buck, by far!!!.......2007-09-27
This is the Best Bang for your Buck of any of the D-slr out there. The quality is great, and the build is also wonderful. Pair it with one of the fine L series lens, like the 17-40 F4 or the 24-105 IS and you have a true Picture taking machine!!! It is basicly a Mark 3 in Pro-Consumer clothes!!! Blows the pants of all the other brands out there and the image quality is almost the same as a 5D. The 14bit processing helps give a lot more Color detail and depth to the Photo. The Guy from Alaska about the Mark 3 was right about the wonderful colors, and the 40D has them as well. Puts the Nikon D200 to shame, at a fraction of the price! I got mine From Sal's Camera in La Verne CA since Amazon was on backorder and I am so glad I got it, it is by far the finest camera I have ever used!
Solid look and feel, but LCD..........2007-09-25
i just got my 40d last week and it's great. 6.5 bursting mode, big viewfinder, live view and all. it's great for those who do high burst shooting and use the tripod a lot (live view). definetely recommend it.
when i opened the box, it's not that i was really surprised, the 40d has a really tough body, feels really great to hold. then i started shooting w/ it. Lo and behold, i got kinna dissapointed by the LCD screen.... pictures look kinna blue on it. so i played around w/ the picture style setting and altered the Tone making it warmer, so it looked better on the screen. the actual thing is, the picture on the LCD is actually slightly different than on the computer. so would you rather have a nice picture on ur camera LCD or on your actual image on the computer? =P
so in conclusion, i just don't think i need to make this kinna 'trade-off' and settle w/ the 40d screen considering the amount of money i'm paying. =P my suggestion is like anyone else would say. if you have a decent camera body like the 30d or xti, invest on great opticts then maybe the 5D replacement or the one generation after 40d will have much better to offer.
Excited 300D user goes upscale..........2007-09-25
As a 3 year dRebel (300D) owner - I've spent the interval time acquiring better lenses than the kit lens I originally purchased rather than upgrade camera bodies. My old (300D) friend has served me well over the years with Battery Grip, Eye Piece Extender and a host of affordable Canon lenses that I've used for portrait and general walk-around photography. My review is more subjective that capability based - as it has renewed interest in portions of my hobby I've not experienced since the 35mm film days. This purchase has supercharged my excitement in digital photography like nothing since my first hands on with the 300D.
In looking for another camera body and lens combination - I considered the XT/XTi series but my attention quickly turned to the newest 40D. I'm a serious semi-pro (do extensive portrait work for formal charity fund raising events) and wanted to upgrade to a second camera body and give my charities the finest portrait work I could afford.
The 40D had enough features (many still being practiced from the manual-highly recommended) that allowed me to invest in this next generation camera body. I ordered the camera with the BG-E2 battery grip - Eyepiece Extender with a diaptor insert to compensate for my eyeglasses) side hand strap (which I absolutely LOVE) and the 28-135mm 'kit' lens to compliment my 'portrait posse' 50mm f1.8 and prime 85mm f1.8 that I also absolutely love - tack sharp and bokeh to die for (jmho)...
The body of the 40D is solid as a rock - the kevlar/plastic 300D never gave me problems - but... this inspires more 'confidence' to last a longer time (more camera - less expendable computer feel). The fps for action shots is outstanding - on a 4 gig CF memory card (SanDisk Extreme II) is adequate for my needs and pocketbook).
Added to this was an upgrade from my 420EX TTL speedlight with a newer 580EXII ETTL which is giving me BEAUTIFUL indoor high ceilinged shots (using a flash diffuser) with no blowouts to date and great exposures over a variety of indoor situations. The 420EX is now a wonderful slave unit to the 580EXII.
I'm now shooting RAW instead of JPEG for the majority of my shots and the difference is noticable. Better able to tweek these RAW images in photoshop also.
If I'm sounding like a kid with a new toy - well - yes! This rig and upgraded accessoriues has breathed a little excitement into this digital photographer. The 3" LCD, Liveshot capabilities and IS 28-135 lens has given me a burst of creativity on the MACRO side not present with other lenses I have owned. A new light tent has renewed my interest in my wristwatch hobby with wonderful macro shots.
This camera body exceeds my present digital photo experience - but as I go thru the manual I'm learning so many useful items on focus range, manual exposure techniques, ISO, and speedlight boundaries the 300D never had. It will be about another month or so before I am "comfortable" again with my ability to better utilize this camera than my 300D mainstay.
This camera is not for everybody - the XT/XTi being a great pro-sumer body for the 'average' recreational photographer (jmho). As I get more serious - I can now concentrate on a series of 'L' lenses to continue my semi-pro hobby. New photographic worlds I could not imagine await me using this camera body. A camera that feels like it will last a lifetiime (until a better technology emerges anyway).
Great solid camera.......2007-09-24
Picked this up 3 days ago with the lens. First let me say the lens feels and looks solid but isn't as sharp as the 18mm-55mm lens that came with my Digital Rebel. Even though the lens has Image Stabilization, it just isn't as sharp as other lens but its ok for the extra $200.
Now, for the camera, I think its fantastic. Its got a solid magnesium alloy body and looks and feels more expensive than it is. It's got all the features you would want including Live View which can come in handy at certain times. The 10.1 megapixels is an improvement over the Digital Rebel at 6.3 megapixals. The camera is very fast at 6.5fps compared to the rebel's 2.5fps. The rebel can only take 4 pictures until the memory catches up but the 40D can take up to 75! That is really good.
Another thing I love is that the camera displays the iso in the viewfinder and the LCD info screen. That is very handy compared to the Rebel. The 40D is the first prosumer SLR to have a 3" screen. The screen does not have as many pixels as the Nikon's new D300 but that camera cost's about $500 more.
Are the pictures that much better than the Rebel? Not really. The Rebel takes phenomanal photos but you just won't be able to enlarge as much. You won't have the control on the Rebel as you will the 40D.
Is it worth upgrading? I say yes because I have had the Rebel for almost 4 years now and this new 40D will probably be the last SLR I'll have to buy (unless it breaks). 10.1 megapixels is way plenty and more would be redundent so hopefully this is the last camera I have to buy.
Hope this review helps you decide.
Everything I expected, but takes time to master.......2007-09-20
I love this camera, I had been putting off for years to buy a digital SLR and finally pulled the trigger. I am by no means a pro, but I am tech savvy, so I love all the knobs, buttons, and possibilities to customize.
I will say that there is no substitue for skill, no matter how good the camera is. Out of the box I started taking pictures and while the quality was impressive, it wasn't exactly magazine-quality or like what'd you see on brochures--that's going to take more skill working the aperture and speed settings using Manual.
Also, another thing that's very important but often overlooked: Vista comptibility! I didn't even need to install drivers, just plugged in USB and got my pictures. This is not typical! I have several other gadgets (camcorders, printers, etc.) and for some it was a nightmare to get drivers to work. What a relief to see Canon spend the effort to make their products work with current OSs. Thanks Canon!

Brother PT-80 Labeler.......2007-09-25
I LOVE this labeler! It is easy to use, can create various fonts sizes and styles, and is very portable. Not only did I label all the kid's supplies for school, but their sandwich containers also. After 3 weeks the label hasn't been washed off or faded. I've since gone wild labeling art supply drawers, hooks for their coats and backpacks, and drawers of stuff in the garage. You can't beat the price either.
GREAT!.......2007-09-16
I just turned it on and started using it - it's great. I'm sure that if I read the manual; it will be even better!
Sucks Batteries Dry in Nothing Flat.......2007-09-16
I don't know why this thing asks for the date and time when you start it: I've had to replace the batteries every time I've used it, and then re-enter the date and time again. Yesterday I put brand new Duracell batteries in it, purchased that day, and after printing one label ("SPARES") the low battery warning came on. I tried printing another label and it just gave up. And that was the _second_ set of new batteries I tried, because I wasn't sure the Energizers I put in the first time were absolutely fresh. And there's not even a plugin for an AC adapter, so it's totally useless. I acknowledge that my experience must be atypical, otherwise no one would be giving this thing good reviews. However, if you do get one of these, make sure you give it a good workout right away, and keep all the packing materials in case you need to ship it back.
Easy to Use.......2007-09-15
I am very pleased with my purchase of the brother label maker. I was labeling within about a minute. It is very easy to use, no having to figure out directions. Also, easy to use because of the typewriter keyboard.
Very Good Product for the Price.......2007-09-06
I purchased this product today and began labeling when I returned home. I was a bit skeptical considering the reviews I read, but it really works great. Yes, the cartridges are pricey and the labels are a bit hard to peel, but it's not worth passing up. I'm enjoying this label maker and I feel that it was well worth the $14.95 I paid for it. Nothing is going to be perfect. I'm just happy that I feel more organized!

Love it!.......2007-09-27
It makes going to the gym an absolute pleasure. Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration. But it sure is more fun that with the "clunky" old Ipods.
Poor Sound Quality. Treble set too high and damaging to eardrums.......2007-09-27
I was very disappointed with the sound quality; in fact, it seems to be hyper-tweaked for treble and base, and the two overpowering settings and opposing qualities pierce your ears. The treble is so high it actually is a bit dangerous and could increase longterm hearing damage. It is really important to consider equalizing music for clarity (keeps volume levels down) and for hearing safety. I love dance and hip hop so this shuffle is so not for me. It's price tag is also too high for being a step back from the original shuffle. I am confused? I love the size, but it doesn't hold the quality that 79$ can get you these days and I am not willing to risk my hearing on bad sound quality. Good Luck!
Worth the Money spent.......2007-09-27
In a nut shell... Don not get taken by those fake ipod shuffles on amazon.. make sure it is an authentic apple ipod.. This is a fantastic unit and is very compact and worth the $75-$79 paid online.
Great little mp3 player with a couple problems........2007-09-26
I will not say much about the good since there are so many positive reviews here already that would supply more information that I care to do. I will say the reason I bought this to replace my nano was the form factor and the lack of a scroll wheel. I liked the nano and really liked the lanyard headphones that allowed me to wear it around my neck. The problem was I found the scroll wheel too sensitive. Too often trying to skip to the next song found me accidentally increasing the volume and blowing my eardrums out.
Now for the shuffle's bad points...
1)It is gone! I lost it already after just a few months. The clip, which I thought would great, is not strong enough. The headphone cord is not long enough to keep it in my pocket, so it was usually clipped to my shirt somewhere or I would wrap the headphones around my neck and clip it to the wire. I was unloading some wood from my car and it fell off. This was right in front of my house but by the time I realized it was gone, someone had picked it up and made off with it already.
2)No folder support. Sure there is no screen but there could still be a button to skip to the next folder. The Creative Zen Stone I picked up after losing the shuffle has this ability(I DO NOT recommend it, however, see my review of that player). One gig holds 150 songs or so and I would like the ability to break that down a bit by mood, etc.
3)A bit expensive for a screenless 1 gig mp3 player.
So, I guess the improvements I would wish for would be folder support, a lower price and a stronger clip. Or, a clip free version that could be worn around your neck. I had a 256 mb pendant mp3 player from Virgin that was pretty good. Give it the shuffle's better controls and capacity and it would be great.
Excellent Value, for a Little Guy.......2007-09-25
I received this for my birthday and have used it for a week now. The most difficult part of set up was getting it out of the box. After that, it was so simple you mom may be able to do it all on her own. I was very surprised at the volume and clarity for such a small item. Fun and easy!

Nano review.......2007-09-24
I love my new Nano. I had a first generation Nano and gave to my grandson. The upgrades on this one are great! Love the color too. Pink is my favorite color and this pink Nano fits the "pink" scene. A very happy customer.
8gb came out the day this one arrived. Dissappointed!.......2007-09-21
The product is fine, however, the new style 8gb came out the day that this one arrived AND ALL FOR THE SAME PRICE!! I guess this has to happen to someone, My turn this time!
Durable.......2007-09-21
I've had it for a few months now, and it's taken alot of abuse. I've dropped it alot of times, once face-down into a 2-inch puddle of dirty water, and gotten it scratched up, yet it still works fine. It's very good. 4 GB is enough. Why would anyone need 40,000 songs??? Unless their downloading illegally... awww...
Review.......2007-09-17
Product seems to work well. Sometimes I have to push some of the buttons a few times to make it work.
My wife is happy .......2007-09-14
I bought the Ipod as a gift to my wife and she is happy, the device is light and easy to wear when you are running, perfect for sports given the size and weight, the only thing that I didn't like is that the manuals don't respond many questions that you can have when is your fist time using and Ipod.

the Zen V Plus holds up to 1,000 songs, and the 1.5-inch OLED screen displays rich and vibrant photos, full-color menus, and album art at any viewing angle. Another great feature built right into the Zen V Plus is the tiny device's ability to support subscription services and pay-per-download music. Plus, you'll never sweat formats--the Zen V Plus plays the broadest selection of MP3 and WMA music. And browsing your music collection has never been easier with Creative's innovative interface that enables effective and intuitive navigation and track selection. The Plus has an extra feature that it's predecessor lacked: the ability to play short video clips. With the Zen V Plus you can watch short clips in transcoded video format and impress your friends with the latest tidbits from the web or a brief glimpse of a home video.
Another great features is the Direct CD Recording function that allows you to record songs directly from a CD player or other audio source without using a PC as an intermediary. You no longer need to burn CDs to your PC then download to your MP3 player. Just connect an audio device directly to your Zen V Plus, and record your favorite CDs, records, beats and more, directly from the source. Meanwhile, automatic track detection separates each song for you--a handy feature when you're converting analog (records and cassette tapes) to digital. If organization is a high priority, the Zen V Plus's Personal Organizer will help you stay connected and in-sync with your Microsoft Outlook information. Just connect the Zen V Plus to your PC, sync your Outlook information, and you'll be ready to carry around your contacts, calendar, and to-do lists right in your pocket. Plus, the Zen V Plus uses a handy built-in microphone to double as a voice recorder, so you can capture notes, record lectures, and more.
No matter how you hold it, the Zen V Plus is just the right size.

Piece of junk!.......2007-09-26
This is my third Creative Zen MP3 player. I also have a Zen Nano Plus which still works fine, although it takes AAA batteries (my first player was a Zen Nano with no radio, so I switched to a Nano Plus).
The Creative Zen V Plus I bought worked fine at the beginning and then shortly thereafter it started to repeatedly freeze, which requires resetting with a straight pin. After several times of resetting, something broke inside and I can no longer use it (this was within around 4 to 6 months of buying it). I'm now looking for a new MP3 player with a rechargeable battery after wasting $100 on the Zen V Plus (what I paid for it at the time). I give it NO STARS as a rating.
Great little mp3 player.......2007-09-26
This is a great little mp3 player. I did extensive research prior to buying this player. I looked at several different players and decided to buy this one for the features and price. Uploading songs is very easy. I have read that it is not compatible with Windows Vista, but I still have XP and haven't tried it with Vista so I don't know for sure.
Lots of fun!.......2007-09-24
Have been using mine for almost a month now & I must say, it's very easy to use. The joystick is kind of weird but you get used to it. My only issue so far is that I haven't figured out how to delete files on the Zen itself, if that's possible. Video playback is great.
Great player until it died at 4 months of use.......2007-09-20
I loved it... until it just plain died. I used it with Rhapsody, and I loved the freedom it gave me to select any music that I could possibly think of.
But, it died after 4 months. R.I.P.
I think I'm going to try the Sansa.
Great player!.......2007-09-19
I bought this player a few months ago and I use it all day, every day at work. I haven't had any of the problems that others have mentioned. It's great for listening to both music and audiobooks. I don't know that you would want to watch much video on the small screen but if you want it mainly for audio it's perfect. It has good sound quality and a fairly long lasting battery.

I bought two -- Neither Works!.......2007-09-21
I got 2 of these as gifts and would have been better off burning my money. Both stopped working within a week! Creative Zen V Plus 2 GB Portable Media Player (White/Green) and Zen V Plus 8GB Black/red Carry Music Video Clips & Photos Eng/fr
Yes you can reset them and gain back SOME of the functionality with one ... but after lots of research and calls on a bad connection to Zen's tech support in the Phillipines, the other is still not working at all. If you want something reliable, GET SOMETHING ELSE. On the other hand, if you want to frustrate people and make them feel unliked and unloved ... just get 'em a Zen.
great little MP3 plus it has an FM radio.......2007-09-17
I was worried when I purchased this product because there were several bad reviews. However, I took a chance. And, I'm glad I did. I love this little MP3. Plus, it has an FM radio which is great at the gym (...at my gym you have to tune in to an FM station in order to hear the TVs that are mounted above the treadmills). I followed the set-up instructions to get it started "to the letter" and it works great. CAVEAT: It crashed/froze a coupla times but I think that's a "user error" problem. Don't push the "back" & "forward" areas at the same time. If you do, it'll freeze. However, it resets without a problem. It doesn't come with an A/C adapter but you can purchase an inexpensive one on-line or purchase other "bundled" products for it like a case, car adapter and loads more.
Great...WHEN IT ACTUALLY WORKS...TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!.......2007-08-31
Purchased this on March 27, 2007. Stopped working in July, 2007. The little reset button on the side was unresponsive. Plugging it into the computer didn't do anything either. With all troubleshooting options exhausted, called customer support. Turns out there's only a 90 day full warranty. If I wanted someone to help me it would cost $12.95 for the call. I could send it in and if they can fix it, they'll charge an additional $25.00 for the labor. Why would I want the same defective one patched up and sent back to me just for it to break on me again?
I also have a SanDisk Sansa m250. It also stopped working, but at least with them, the tech call was free and they sent me a brand new one...no hassel AT NO EXTRA CHARGE!!!
Stay away from CREATIVE ZEN...they are a company full of EXTRA CHARGES.
Zen bettter than Nano and cheaper.......2007-08-09
Even the 12-year-old (who has a Nano)was jealous. It's smaller-therefore cooler! It comes with a necklace length strap. It's able to download music off any music site - (Nano is only compatible with iTunes.) It has FM radio, and an organizer/contacts feature. You can record (via the included "line-in" wire) right off your CD player - no computer needed to record. The video is easy to load and very easily viewed. The menus are easy even for my older relatives to use! The earbuds are of good quality, but don't fit my ear.
A Lemon.......2007-08-09
We bought two of these. My husband likes his, but mine skips quite often - and the on/off button broke off within a week! I'd avoid it. Who knows how long it will be before my husband's falls apart?

Do not want.......2007-09-27
Like David A., I was pretty surprised to receive something I didn't think I ordered. Not only that, but it's tacky-looking and I was surprised it fit my laptop at all. I'm returning this product too. The fact that it's not Speck brand needs to be way, way higher in that description, before you have to click ">> more". That is way sneaky business and considering two people have bought it in the past week thinking they were getting something else entirely, the seller really needs to re-think his description.
Love it!.......2007-09-26
I have THE COOLEST macbook ever because of this! Everyone comments on it and since I am a very pink person, this cover is completely me!
It was easy to get on and has fit on it well.
My only complaints would be that the computer heats up fast (which it would without the cover). I would like this cover to have bigger mounting spots underneath so that the computer is lifted a little and there can be more air flow.
Also, The top right corner seems to come loose and I'm often snapping it back in - not a big problem though.
I've experiences the mounting grip pads underneath slide from their spots but I just put them back and they're fine.
I'd def. buy again!
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ITEM.......2007-09-24
I just took my cover off after having it on for 2 weeks and it actually scratched my computer up more than it would have not having a case. Buying this product was a pretty bad decision. I'm so angry right now. My computer was BRAND NEW !!! Now it looks like I dropped my computer on the ground and kicked it around. The only good thing about this product is that it makes the computer look cool. I would not recommend this item to anyone trying to keep their computer looking new.
Good case for laptop.......2007-09-23
This Speck case is very good. In addition to protecting the computer from surface marks and general dust, it gives a cool, distinctive look. Especially handy when you're in a building filled with other students who have the exact same computer as you.
The case snaps on easily enough and is very effective. So I'd recommend it, especially for the $35 I paid.
Good Product.......2007-09-23
The case was so easy to put on and looks great on my computer. I bought the blue case and it contrasts so nicely with the stark white computer. The only downside is that the case came with a few scratches on the cover. Overall, I really like this product and have recommended it to my friends.
