If you think the software works well...........2002-06-13

You should try using it with the CardScan 600C scanner. I used to own the 500 model scanner, but when they created this color scanning device-I had to have it. Not only did the OCR improve from the previous version, it is now a USB only scanner, that's much sleaker and smaller than it's predecessor. I scan, and with the click of a button (after the setup of course) I can send all the information into my Outlook Contacts folder, or my Palm Pilot address book. This thing is great, where has it been all my life, now to attack the huge pile of business cards that I have sitting around my desk!

Excelent Software for small Price.......2002-04-23

Cardscan 6.0 is by far the smartest way of getting the information contained on a business card into your computer.

You simply put the card on your twain compatible scanner click the scan button and of it goes.

After scanning a batch of cards, one has the option to assign some batch prossesing to the scanned cards and OCR process the scanned images.

This works rather well. Though on several occasions the program is not quite sure where to put the information. It sometimes puts names into titel fields, and the addresses need to be reworked on a regular basis. But all in all this is still quicker than typing.

Card Scan 6.0 includes all neccessary export funtions to join your scanned contacts with your outlook express/ Outlook and a whole lot of other email and address based comunication tools.

This is what make Card Scan so powerfull: Being able to scan lets say 100 address lables for a mail shot, then converting them to a windows address book and using the names and addesses to perform a mailmerge in Word, thus beeing able to reuse them for the next mailshot.

I have been setting Card Scan up in my offices and people are finding it an easy and helpful addition to their usual tasks. We see our customer database grow and it helps us to keep in touch with the rest of the world.

How many pictures will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most difficult to get a straight answer about. Well, considering I worked in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed industries.

The 512MB Compactflash 12X Hhscanada Only, like most 512MB cards, will store on average 568 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera, 426 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera, 256 pictures when used with a 4 megapixel camera, 204 images when used with a 5 megapixel camera, and 160 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors including the complexity of the scene being shot and the compression algorithm used by your specific camera.

Compaq's Personal Audio Player PA-1 has most of the features one looks for when buying a portable MP3 player--a compact design, backlit display, and 64 MB of expandable memory--but unfortunately comes up short in sound quality. The sturdy little player measures only 2.7 by 2.1 by 0.8 inches and comes with all the software and cables you need to start transferring MP3, WMA, and AAC files right away. It can run for more than 12 hours on a pair of AAA batteries under ideal circumstances and comes with a handy belt clip for listening on the go. The solid-state design uses no moving parts, meaning that it won't skip when jostled and it's less susceptible to breaking if dropped.

The backlit LCD scrolls the track number and title of the song that's currently playing. It also shows the volume level, battery strength, and selected playback mode (regular, shuffle, or repeat). Dedicated volume buttons on the front can also be used to change the bass and treble levels, or you can choose the jazz, rock, or classical presets. We didn't notice much difference between these modes and used either the default or custom settings for most of our songs.

Overall, the sound quality from the player didn't match the crispness displayed by the best players we've tested, and the flat bass response was particularly disappointing. It's hard to notice with the wimpy earbud headphones that come with the iPAQ, but it's immediately apparent when a more capable set of headphones is connected to the device.

The PA-1 comes with 64 MB of memory, but it's split into two 32 MB Multimedia Cards (MMC). This makes managing music far more involved than it would be if 64 MB of contiguous memory was included, because each card must be filled separately. Although the product uses a USB connection to communicate with the PC, transfer rates were a little sluggish. It took more than six minutes to fill one of the 32 MB cards, but reformatting a card to make room for more music took only a few seconds.

Overall, the PA-1 is easy to use, its expandability is nice, and it would be a good choice for those who listen mainly to pop and other types of music that don't rely on deep bass lines. --T. Byrl Baker

Honestly guys, I'm a big pc, compaq, bill gates guy. I really like them. But I must admit that this attempt at mp3 players crashed and burned. This is an older model. DO NOT GET IT. Mine came with ZERO internal harddrive. Get one that COMES with something. Like a rio chiba like I now have. I might pay 40 bucks for this. I received this as a gift and kinda liked it. I could only get 20 songs on it with my 64 megs of space. I would only recommend this, more like give it another star, if you had a couple of 128 or 256 meg mmc's lying around that you're dying to sell. (...)

Excellent Product But Easy To Lose.......2003-03-05

This mp3 player is the best I have seen in terms of the different formats it can play. It is small and lightweight and easy to use. It is also a durable product unlike the roxio mp3 player.

Great MP3 player when it works. The sound quality is awesome and this is one small and very portable MP3 player. I have had it for about 7 months and have had quite a few problems with it. It is always a pain to put new music on it.

The day after I purchased this PA1 I had to install a new driver and reformat the memory card on the mp3 player. The only way to format the media card is to download RioPort audio manager, which would be no problem but it is something that you have to buy after you use up your trial membership. Now I use Window's media player to download songs to it. The only problem is that media player often tells me that the card is not formatted, or tells me there is no media device present. I have removed and reinstalled the driver numerous times and I still get the same problems. Also Windows media player often freezes in the middle of putting songs on to the mp3 player, which means that I have to restart it and the task of putting music back on it.

A great deal if you don't mind dealing w/the occasional headache.

Best player for runners!.......2002-07-12

Player works great! If you run, walk, or bike a lot, this player is for you. Depending on the sound quality you want, you can load up hours of songs and hit the road. Just make sure to get yourself a comfortable pair of earphones. Another bonus of this model over others is the capability of handling multiple file formats.

Great player for the price.......2002-06-25

I purchased this player based on a lot of research and it was a great choice. It is extremely small and light weight. Its simple to use, just unpack and plug in, start up Windows Media player and your off. The download time is a little slow but that is barely noticable. It sounds great, lose the earphones it comes with and pick a good sony or Aiwa pair. I use wma format and I can get about 20 songs or sixty minutes of music on one 64 meg card. (use wma format, it compresses much more than mp3 and sounds just as crisp) Battery life is great. With normal batteries I got about 14 hours of playback. ... Basically its great for someone who needs a player to workout with or use to and from work. Belt clip is fine for the gym and running. It comes off and the player is hardly noticable in your pocket.
