I own a similar JumpDrive with same shape, color but smaller memory size, since long time. I think since 2002 or before. I still use it heavily and it is working pefectly. It is a great product and I highly recommend it.

Adequate, mid-roader........2005-07-18

I'm a digital printer. I see a lot of media (singleton 17K Excel business card files on a CD, print one of each of 17,000 tif files on Jaz, quarter inch tape cassettes, and 5.25 floppies within the last month).

The Lexars are about the norm for breed. Not the cheapest or the fastest or the hardiest, or any other -est. But they're about the Mendoza line in all the relevant categories. One big plus, they actually fit the USB ports of ALL our equipment and every laptop any suit has ever dragged in. We are deep into weird days - where folk wanna buy supercomputers for pocket change in order to "more effectively" email "me too" everywhere. No USB flash drive is right for such a user. If you're computer savvy (circa 2005) these are OK. And you're already on this page...

As to the person with the blue flaming flash widgets... Uh? We have about a dozen in use daily. Most have also been used as doorstops and to prove Newton's laws of gravity... No fatalities. I don't like to let corporate tech. purveyors off any hooks but, maybe you got a/the bad batch? Well, alright, that's a/the REALLY bad batch but still... The flash gods apparently didn't like your offering.

This is in reference to the "Horrible customer service, August 19, 2004 by SPM" It is a USB flash drive!!If it needs reformatting, Format it!! To call Live support for a USB flash drive is overkill.

Ok back to MY review, I already had a 256 flash drive from PNY, works fine but it seems a lil slow. Not USB1 slow but slower than other cards. that position was bolstered when I got this Lexar media drive. I copied a 115meg file fromt he same USB port and the tranfer for the Lexar was a lot smoother. the time started at 50 seconds and quickly progressed.. My other Card showed 2 minutes, then went to 60 secs and counted down. The Lexar has a speed advantage.

ALso, Walmart is a selling an Impact 256 meg drive for $30. it has clear plastic and u can see the Lexar chip inside and when u plug it to ur comp, it shows Lexar.. worth the check out..

Burns up really fast .......2005-03-09

Bought 8 jumpdrives 256MB and 1 512MB. In total 5 jumpdrives burnt out within 6 months!! A strong smell of burned components came out of them. All used on different computers (so it was not 1 faulty PC). Switched to SanDisk Cruzers now, they seem to work fine...

Horrible customer service.......2004-08-19

I had a 256MB JumpDrive Pro for about 6 months and it worked fine until one day I connected it to my WinXP laptop and I got an error message saying the drive needed to be formatted. I went to the website to see what I could find about this and couldn't find an answer. In fact, I couldn't find anything except links to sites that would sell me another one. I contacted live support and they were even less helpful. Their response was "sometimes faulty hardware." No reason was given as to why this would have happened, nothing about how to solve the problem, just bad hardware. I was advised to send it back (on my own dime, nonetheless) and within 7-9 business days I would have a replacement.

Data transfer is what you'd expect.......2005-02-03

11 seconds for a 64 Megayte file to a 5400 RPM hard drive across USB HighSpeed (2.0). I think things like this are handy if you're the resident computer guy. Carry around updates to various OSes on different JumpDrives like this one. It's come in handy more than once in that capacity. But I'm more likely to take the digital camera with me which, many of them, serves as a flash media drive too. For me having this and a digital camera that can do that would be redundant.

It's quite tough when you handle it properly too. Like, on my keychain it's taken several blows over the last week and it still works. I don't leave mine hooked into the USB ports though because immediately I'd think that would just invite trouble if I happen to hit it (or anything poking out of the USB ports) with something. So, practice common sense. Anything poking out of a port where someone can kick it or heavy items brush up against it will either snap the port off the motherboard or snap the USB plug out of the device. Try to tuck USB ports in hubs and the like towards the middle of the desk or face ports away from foot traffic. True for any port too.

It's a USB flash drive. Most computers these days have USB. What more can I say.

I was a very big fan of this Jumpdrive. It didn't revoluntionize download speed, but it was leaps and bounds better than ZIP, CD or floppy.

My only problem with my drive is it no longer works. Jutting out of my tower, it was destined to be hit, and on first impact the USB port disconnected from the motherboard, and that was the end of it.

Lexar is excellent for marketing, but the reality is less amazing...
The key is nice but the tranfer rate is not the best I have ever seen even on USB 2.0.
Regarding the 'traveler' side, the app is very disappointing: hard to configure and to use!
I do not advise this product.

Very Durable.......2005-08-07

This drive is very durable, but the keyring loop is not. The loop that the keyring is attached to (on the cap) broke after two weeks of use. I have had the 128MB model of this drive for over a year and my mother just stepped on it last night, breaking the case apart. It still functioned properly long enough for me to get all of the data off of it. It has fast data transfers, even on USB 1.1 (backwards compatable from USB 2.0)

I have owned this jump drive since March 6. These are my observations:

The design of the drive is good. It comes with a lanyard to which the cap is securely tethered, so I can wear the drive around my neck. The tether on the cap is easy to remove and replace, enabling me to remove the jump drive from the lanyard without having to take off the lanyard. The cap fits securely on the drive. The drive itself is flat, which makes it possible for me to have two of these plugged into columnar USB ports at once, and it's got that great non-skid pad in the center of it on either side so I can grab it securely to disconnect it from my USB port. I haven't had any data corruption so far. And, I saved a few tracks from some CDs in my library to a folder on the drive, and now when I plug it into my workstation, Windows Media automatically initiates the playlist. Very cool.

The drive can be formatted, so you can change the "traveldrive" moniker to something more appropriate. Be sure to format the drive before you save any files to it.

Conversely, the advertised storage capacity for the drive is 256MB, but my drive has only a 240MB capacity. A difference of 15MB is substantial, folks; for my money, this constitutes larceny. Additionally, saving a file to the drive is time-consuming. For advanced technology, this is pretty slow.

If I have to make another jump drive purchase, Memorex is officially at the bottom of my list of potential manufacturers.

Very Problematic.......2005-02-19

Unlike the other USB drives that I own, this one is full of problems. It will not transfer files without corruption, even between two computers running XP and using USB 2.0 ports. I tried the same transfer using a different USB drive, and it worked fine. The problem is definitely with this particular drive, and I would not recommend wasting your money.

I bought one from OD on March 2004, the cap was broken after two month, the drive stopped working on Aug.

for cap, it is free to get a new one
for drive, you have to sent it back at your own expense, and get a refurbished one.

the cap is poorly designed, very easy to be broken
drive get warm when use it. my kingston never get warm.
the important thing, it is not reliable.

I have two of these memorex jumps "thumbdrive." Both have worked fine and taken a lot of abuse as well!
To the reveiwer below who had trouble with their USB, perhaps you a a newbie. I suggest you check your machine. I have used a dozen different brands (memorex, sandisk, lexar, etc) and never had trouble with a single one or machine pc or mac, usb 1, 1.2 or 2.0 and any drive. perhaps you twisted it while taking it out.

In any case memorex support is great, I had one drive I crushed in a door (my fault and a strong enough impact to also destroy may car alarm gizmo) and they sent me a new one! I have had otehr brands (ironically the lexar "sport"), where the keychain holder broke, memorex is actually more study than most)

The Canon EOS Rebel K2 SLR, with the 28-90 zoom lens is a good buy. Camera stores in my area (NW Arkansas) can't even come close to the price I paid for a new camera. It's light, easy to carry and it has an automatic point and click feature that makes this amateir look better than he is.

This camera is cheap. It even feels cheap. The first time we loaded film, it jammed and has never worked since. I have for years bought only Canon products which is why I purchased this replacement for an older Canon Rebel (which I loved) that had dropped and broke. Now I'm so turned off by this poorly manufactured Canon product that I'm looking to replace all of my lenses so that I can find a system that's better made.

I had been looking at 35mm cameras for months trying to decide. I had originally decided on an Olympus IS-50, but then found this wonderful contraption and went with it instead. I could not be happier, I have taken many pictures and the only way they could be better is if I were a better photographer. This camera is wonderful, and I'm very very happy with it's performance. The only down side is that some of the controls and settings are a bit over my head but that will all change with time and research on photography. Wonderul product! Worth every cent.
