Customer Reviews:
Great mount for the money!.......2007-06-17
I picked this unit up to mount a Polaroid 26" LCD flat panel. I had to return a local unit I purchased from Wal-Mart due to the wall mounting bracket not being wide enough to accept the mounting pattern of the LCD. This one was just wide enough to accept the width of the mounting pattern on the back of the LCD and still tuck inside the edges of the flat panel. It comes with all the hardware for virtually any unit you put up and the build seems very solid. In reality I would give this a 4.5 out of 5 due to the only issue being the plastic pieces that line the brackets. They just kept falling off before I could put it in place so I SuperGlued them on. They really should have designed that different but other than that this mount is hard to beat. As a plus the center is open so you can place it around an electrical outlet or a plug panel for your components which is what I did. Better than the ones in Wal-Mart for the same price!

STAY AWAY OR SUFFER IOMEGA'S WRATH.......2007-07-03
Not only does Iomega ship brand new products that don't work at all. They don't want to fix or replace them either. Fortunately, I screamed loud enogh that they sent me an RMA, but I had to pay the freight on a brand new unit. The replacement they sent was bad as well. They made me jump through hoops and I still have no working unit. Terrible company!

Customer Reviews:
Incredibly Slow.......2007-09-12
I now have two terastations sitting on the shelf collecting dust.
I bought the terastation live 2tb because of the attractive price. I placed the NAS on a 1 gigabit network with a few macs for clients. I reviewed the manuals and the admin interface and optimized for the mac environment as instructed. The resulting, optimized, file transfer speeds were so slow as to be unworkable for anything other than late night backups.
After a few days I purchased a readynas (also through amazon) and have found this to be a *much* faster system.
Definitely consider this issue before you buy.
Buffalo Live 2tb.......2007-07-24
I've had this product for about a month now and so far it's performed as advertised. 1.36tb at raid 5 is damn nice. I haven't tried all the fancy media features that previous reviews claimed didn't work accept the cool itunes sharing which does work great. That means I can store all my music on the tera station and share it in iTunes across any computer in my network...Windows or Mac
The setup could be a little more user friendly but nothing a few google searches didn't clear up like "what's jumbo frames?". Turns out you have to turn that on to be able to use this product in a gigabit networking environment. It's not without it's minor bugs. I've gotten a few dialog boxes in Japanese. Apparently this product was released in Japan first and it doesn't seem like they cleaned out all of the Japanese pages in the internal configuration website and for some reason the date and time has trouble sticking but who cares. I need a huge amount of storage and I've already used about 700gb so far.
I've used it with both my Mac and my windows machines with little incident. I can even get in running windows on my mac via paralles with no problems at all. The size is decent. A little taller than half the height of a regular atx tower and slightly shallower. When all 4 hard drives are cranking away you hear a little bit of hd tick but not much else and it's not terribly distracting. The LCD is a nice touch.
One hint...it cycles through information about the unit and if your's says 100Mbps then you aren't running in full gigabit mode. Turn on jumbo frames in the config and get yourself a gigabit switch or router and a computer with gigabit ethernet and you'll see the display change to 1000Mbps and the transfer rates shorten.
I didn't give this product 5 stars only because it seems like they rushed it to the American market without getting the little Japanese gremlins out. Other than that the unit works great. If you have the need for this amount of storage the price is hard to beat.
Worked out of the box, for about a day.......2007-06-03
Well, in the space of about 2 weeks, I have gone through 1 Terastation Live (1TB), and FOUR Terastation 2TB units, after they failed, one by one. One of them refused to work RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX! And just when I thought the LAST ONE was the LUCKY ONE ... BOOM it dies the same death the FIRST unit did ... first refusing network requests, then refusing to allow accessing any menu items in the web browser, then being completely unable to complete booting up.
I've had it with the poor quality of Terastation products. I can't believe the company stays in business putting out expensive cr*p like this?
My reasons for wanting one in the first place was to not only have a SAFE PLACE to store our vast collection of personal photographs (kids, vacations, graduations, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.), but also to serve as a RELIABLE place to back up our computers to.
But I wouldn't trust a Terastation unit to hold Looney Tunes MP3's! Heck, I might as well leave my house wide open, and post my address on the internet inviting theives to come take whatever they want! That's how safe and secure my data has been.
And wouldn't you know, RIGHT AFTER this unit failed, I had a serious drive failure in one of my PC's and WAS UNABLE TO RECOVER because this unit was not responding to requests from my network.
So, if you are looking for network storage, I suggest building your own. At least you know the quality that went into it.
I will never own a Terastation again in my lifetime if I can avoid it.
Hope this helps in your purchasing decision!
BE VERY CAUTIOUS!.......2007-05-24
This is the 2nd Buffalo product I've purcahsed, and I couldn't be less satisfied with their products. I am however, trying to achieve a specific result - music streaming.
Though this device is listed as DNLA certified I can not get it to work. I've searched the mfg website and there is almost nothing documenting the mediaserver. The documents that come with the device provide almost no information whatsoever. From doing hours of research on the web it would seem nobody has any success using this as a DNLA Media Server - works OK with their own product but not much else. I've posted a question to the mfg's tech support but haven't heard anything in response.
As a pure NAS device it works fine, but if that's all you're trying to do they make other products that provide that. DO NOT purchase this device if you're trying to do any kind of media streaming, and intend to do so with something other than a Buffalo product.
BTW - the Twonky and the Firefly media server products currently do not work on this specific device so even 3rd part hacking isn't an option.

Just space...not much else.......2007-03-16
If you are in a networked environment and need the ability to exercise some control over permissions and quotas, this is not the device for you. The embedded version of XP does not allow for quota management of any type, and permissions are limited to basic share-level rights. I've heard of some people who have loaded XP Pro on to the disk, but this will nullify any support you have from LaCie. We will be looking at the Buffalo NAS.

Easy to set up; works; slow compared to other equipment.......2007-07-16
Just bought the 2TB LaCie Ethernet Disk Raid Unit. Easy to set up, and the software works as documented in the documentation (that's a treat!). Putting a shared folder online was very easy. But you have to be patient with this unit. It's slow.
It was slow to complete the setup steps, having to reboot itself several times. And, when set up as RAID level 5 (fault-tolerance) it is a very slow shared disk drive. Using a gigabit network, It took more than an hour to copy 20 gigabytes from other computers to this device. On the same network it typically takes 15 to 20 minutes to copy 20 gigs. Even doing a directory listing of the files in the folders is slow.
So it works; just be patient.

Customer Reviews:
Camera quality doesn't carry over. Cheap tool = expensive tool........2007-09-18
When it works, it works with quirks. Quirks that are obvious design flaws. It is as if canon deliberately crippled this printer to make it unsuitable for office use. Ours ran fine for 18 months, then it started giving paper size errors that could not be corrected, resulting in lost faxes that really hurt our business.
I recommend going to a brick-and-mortar costco and seeing what they offer as their most expensive printer. Their product line is pretty well vetted and well suited to a small business office.
Reset Button Never Work.......2007-05-26
When there is an error , for example , if paper size is A4 instead of Letter, the printer will alarm. There NO way to reset the printer when it has error, even if you shutdown your computer , or shutdown the printer temporarily.
This printer still REMEMBER all the pages that were sent to it after you turn it off, and you can not use the Reset button to clear those pages.
My only solution in this case is : turn the printer off in 1 night, and check it back in the next morning. Usually, 1 night is long enough for the printer to forget the error and reset by itself.
This printer has very good print quality when it works . However, when it does not work, you will have a miserable time to fix it.
After a lot of customers complained about this product, Canon still sell this printer in the market, without fixing the problem or recalling the defective product. This carelessness will destroy the credibility of Canon.
Good value for home use.......2006-09-13
After reading the earlier reviews, I was skeptical. But considering the recent price drops ($199) I decided to give this printer a try. The installation was easy. I got paper jams on the first try, but this was due to the paper tray not being positioned correctly - I had the printer sitting on a carpet surface (the paper tray does not lock shut, so is susceptible to improper positioning easily). It comes with a full size toner X25 (good for 2500 pages). Printing, Scanning seem pretty decent. OCR worked well with the Omnipage software that came with the CD (old version of Omnipage software, but accurate character recognition). Copying by placing original on flatbed caused really crooked copy the first time, but seemed better on subsequent times. It was still not perfectly square in alignment. This might have been due to a combination of paper quality and loosely fitted paper tray. Despite these I am happy with the printer for home use. It is good value for the money. I am giving it 3 stars mainly due to the poor fit and issues with the paper tray. You can get over the last problem by placing the printer on a hard surface and installing the paper tray carefully and not disturbing it often.
Least intuitive piece of hardware EVER!.......2006-05-16
I know it's difficult to imagine and probably a slight exageration but quite frankly I have never really seen a piece of office equipment with such a non-intuitive usability design.
*To delete a simple job takes at least 3 to 4 button pushes.
*Not very friendly to using different sizes of paper - especially if you use MORE THANE 1 SHEET! It's an office! Canon - come on...
*Even if you think you know how to delete a simple print job, don't bother using buttons that say CLEAR or STOP - those are there just to tease. No the actual buttons say things like SET and STATUS MONITOR. After 20 times of doing that, it may become something you remember...
* There's NO reset button. You have to actually unplug it!
* There's NO off button. So your scan lamp basically stays on all the time...
* The Cable and Plug wire are designed to hang down the back of the machine - UNFORTUNATELY, if you use Legal size paper, your cable and plug wire are pushing up against your paper tray all the time because the Cable and Plug are above it. Really doesn't make any sense for an OFFICE MACHINE!!!
It does function basically o.k. once you figure it out, but I stand by the title - Least Intuitive thing I've ever used. I do also concur with most of the other review items but the one gave it 5 stars...
No mac support!.......2006-03-28
No mac support! Not just "no mac drivers on the included CD", but "no mac drivers exist that will cause this thing to print".
I really wish I had discovered that before lugging it upstairs & setting it up.
