4 out of 5 stars good unit, but could be better.......2007-08-25

This kvm has the advantage that it only needs one single usb port on each of your pc to work. I connected a set of usb mouse and usb keyboard (both microsoft) to the kvm, and all was recognized with no problems. The audio quality is very good. When you switch, there's no beep sound (for me this is good). Also this kit doesn't need ac power adapter, however, there are some disadvantages that can be a deal-breaker for some. It inclues:
-if you have one linux box, the hotkey doesn't work and you need to push the button on the kvm to switch between machines. No big deal.
-when you switch, there is a delay, ie. you can't use immediately the keyboard and mouse, I guess that is because they need to draw power from usb port. This delay is about 5 secs long. I'm used to it now.
-on my windows vista box, I have installed a winxp virtual machine, and when I'm starting this virtual machine, the kvm switch automatically to the next pc connected. The same happens if I'm on Vista and focus back to the vmware window with xp. This is very annoying and the reason I give it 4 stars, because I use virtualisation all the time.
To sum up, this is a good solid and reliable unit, and supports usb devices, very popular nowadays. The price can't be beaten, so if you don't mind the little cons, this may be for you.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Doesn't support VGA.......2007-08-27

Product is great with newer computers, but it's features are completely misleading when it comes to older computers with only a VGA video port. Apparently, it only supports DVI-i, rather than DVI-d. DVI-d has the ability to use that dvi-to-vga adapter, whereas DVI-i only supports digital. When trying to hook in an older computer, this switch becomes absolutely useless.

4 out of 5 stars Avocent Switchview DVI.......2007-08-12

I needed a DVI switch that would allow me to share a single DVI based flat panel display. The Avocent switchviewDVI seems to work well with PC's and Macs.
I would have given it a 5 star rating, but it some times will get a little twitchy if one of the computers changes to a sleep mode. Usually all you have to do is press an alternate computer's switch, and then back to the original one and things seem to clear up immediately. Other than that it has been very stable. It also allows me to use one set of computer speakers which really helps alot. However, I do have to mention that you will have to buy some DVI cables and stereo audio cables since no cables are included with this switch.

2 out of 5 stars doesn't work with Thinkpad Advanced Dock.......2007-07-31

i hooked up one 1600x1200 LCD to 2 computers: a desktop with nvidia 6150 integrated graphics and a laptop (lenovo T60p in a Thinkpad Advanced Dock). the desktop worked fine, the laptop could not detect the presence of the monitor, so it displayed a blank screen. a gefen switch works fine in the same situation.

2 out of 5 stars hates sleeping computers.......2007-03-24

This switch works pretty well until one of your computers goes to sleep or the display sleeps, then you have to power cycle the switch to get it to display anything after waking up the computer or display.
Same problem occurs when you just turn on the computer.
Windows is especially bad about thinking it has no display if you boot Windows when it is not the selected computer.
If your computer never sleeps and never sleeps the display, then the switch works fine. Otherwise look for something else.

3 out of 5 stars Barely Adequate.......2007-01-11

It does the job. But ....

Major peeve:
If you are not switched to the graphics card until the boot completes, the screen stays blank.

It does not appear to isolate the computer from the peripherals. You must have a keyboard / mouse attached. A "stupid" emulation until a real device is attached would be more useful.

Minor peeve.
You can only move the USB and Audio connections by moving "syncing" the audio and/or the usb to the keyboard and monitor. You cannot shift them independently.

Don't bother buying the avocent cable. It isn't a single unified cable, it is three seperate cables.

The Belkin Flip Plus Audio 2-Port KVM Switch offer you a great way to work and play on your laptop, almost anywhere. Sometimes you just don't feel like sitting in front of a tiny display and cramped keyboard. Instead of dealing with that, just click and flip. Just place the remote anywhere on your desk and press to flip your monitor from one computer to the next. Now use your big monitor and full-sized keyboard for both your laptop and desktop computer. It's also great for connecting your old and new desktop computers -- giving you instant access to files, programs, and games on both computers. Simple to install -- just 3 easy steps, with no software required USB

1 out of 5 stars Severe suckage!.......2007-09-09

Bought this to use with my Mac Mini PPC and my new Mac Mini Intel. Seemed to work at first, but then refused to recognize either the keyboard or mouse. (Macally and Kensington). Took it back and exchanged it for the IOGEAR GCS632U, which works perfectly. Instead of an unreliable external switch button, it uses a hot key.

Beware of Belkin!

3 out of 5 stars Just a bit quirky.......2007-09-04

The switch is just a bit quirky. It did not work well with the Dell monitor I have, but I got around that by hooking up the laptop to the monitor via VGA and a desktop to the monitor via DVI. The other interesting thing is that the switch has a color to represent which computer you are selecting. That gets out of whack if you don't boot the computers up in a certain order. Which mean the sound gets out of sync of the mouse and keyboard. So I have the desktop hooked up to speakers and the laptop sound just via internal specker. So all I am truly using the device for is to switch keyboard and mouse. Sound and video are not going through the switch as designed. If you plan to buy, I recommend getting the one without sound. The video might be OK with a monitor other than the Dell 19 Ultrasharp I have. It is still a cheap solution

1 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware.......2007-06-28

Purchased one in October, it worked very well 95% of the time as long as I didn't want sound with both computers (sound never switched over) until June when the button stopped working. Also found the wiring very difficult to work with since the hub is between the computers and the button.

4 out of 5 stars Works well with wireless devices.......2007-06-02

this works well with a logitech wireless set i have, though the mouse is ps2 and connects directly to one machine. i have a logitech wireless usb trackball on the other usb port, and both the keyboard and trackball respond after switching the kvm, though a 5ish-second delay is required.
the audio is relayed properly as well, though i haven't done any audio-quality comparisons.
once in a while, the unit will automatically switch to the other kvm set if only one machine is powered up. i'd be watching a movie from a laptop and it'd switch 3 times every 10 minutes, and would go away, but its annoying when my butt is adhered to my bed.

i'm running a dell e1705 laptop and an older white box with a radeon AIW 8500 to a sony 46s2010 lcd tv, and would definitely buy this again with the small problems, versus buying another set and risk gaining either a perfect situation or a very problematic one. and i do like the little flip instead of the whole unit sitting atop my desk.

2 out of 5 stars sore head.......2007-05-10

Don't get this unless you intend to spend considerable time under your desk... Mine works for up to two days at a time, whereupon I must climb under my desk to un and re-plug the USB ports in both computers to reactivate it. Watch your head getting back up, and expect to do this several times a week. Also, sound won't always shift with computers, so you'll get the sound from one computer with the KVM of the other.

1 out of 5 stars Doesn't recognize anything but standard keyboards.......2007-09-10

I tried to use this switch with an Logitech Elite Keyboard (very standard cheap keyboard) a mac desktop, a macbook pro and a Dell desktop.

The macs are no longer recognizing the keyboard when connected via the switch. The logitech software doesn't recognize the keyboard. So I contacted customer support. It turns out that they DON'T GUARANTEE THAT THIS SWITCH WILL WORK WITH YOUR KEYBOARD" Here is their incredibly not helpful and illustrative response...

"GCS1764 is tested to work with a wired standard USB keyboard and mice. We cannot guarantee that all of the special keys of your keyboard will work.

Try to connect first your keyboard directly to the computers and check if the keyboard will work. You may try to use another keyboard and connect it to your KVM. If the other keyboard didn't work while it is connected to the KVM, please call our technical support so that we can further assist you.

For further assistance, please contact IOGEAR Customer Advocacy (toll free) 866-946-4327 and refer to ticket no. 206504."

4 out of 5 stars Tech Support Woes.......2007-03-22

The switch now works as promised. Their tech support is horrible and just wants to RMA everything even though it works on an identical system they claimed it was bad. It took me 6 days worth of calls and having to go through the same tech support script with each person to get escalated to their development team to determine the issue. By the way the development team is in California and their Tech Support is not.

5 out of 5 stars Works fine with Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 and Dell Dimension E510 and HP nc6000 laptop.......2005-12-07

I think the previous reviewer has a very specific issue that is not related to all hardware. This product has worked well with my hardware (as I suspect it does for most other folks). It's a great solution if you have two PCs with dual monitors.

1 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with Nforce motherboards.......2005-10-15

Only after purchasing one and fighting with skipping and sticking keystrokes for a day did I find out from Iogears tech support that not only does this KVM not work well with multimedia and internet style keyboards (and good luck finding a non-multimedia USB keyboard these days) but it also doesn't work with Nforce motherboards, regardless of version. Thats gotta be close to half the desktops that are made now-a-days that this KVM won't work with. As of this writing they do not have a firmware fix and no ETA on when one will be released. What would possess them to release a KVM in such a buggy state is beyond me.

1 out of 5 stars Unreliable wireless unit, keyboard input issues.......2007-05-02

It's junk. Don't buy it.

I haven't had the problem others have seen, where it switches between computers at random times. I've seen other failure modes:

1) The remote switch sometimes stops working, and will not recover until I unplug the video/USB/audio cables from the triangular main body of the unit. At a guess, it's getting power from one or the other of the USB connections and I'm power-cycling it by disconnecting and reconnecting the cables. I've been able to get the same effect by disconnecting both of the USB cables from the computers, but that's even less convenient.

2) I periodically lose keyboard input for a second or so. I'll be typing, and half a dozen characters will be lost. Then it rights itself. I'm using a PS/2 keyboard with a USB adapter, and I haven't tested that without the KVM, so it's possible that the KVM isn't the problem there.

1 out of 5 stars Horrible!.......2006-08-02

Let me start by saying I very rarely post negative reviews. But my experience with the wireless flip usb kvm was so bad, I just wanted to prevent someone from making the mistake I did. I decided to get a USB kvm when my old ps/2 ergnomic keyboard died(first time I've actually managed to kill a keyboard) and I had a very hard time finding another ps/2 ergo keyboard locally. I couldn't just use an adapter because my mouse already uses one, and there wasn't room for two adapters side by side on my old belkin omni kvm. So I decided to bite the bullet and get a usb kvm.

I researched online and went to a couple of bricks and mortars to see what was available. I was pleasantly suprised by the prices, not having shopped for a kvm in 5 years. I read the reviews on the wired Flip, and went to Circuit City and saw this wireless version. I brought it home, and it didn't go more than a few minutes without flipping over without me pushing the button. Sometimes it flipped back and forth 5 or 6 times in a minute. This of course makes it utterly useless. I kept it on for an hour or two and even sat on hold on Belkin's support like for 15 minutes or so before giving up. I returned it and bought a different one (Belkin F1DL102U with no wireless option), and it is working fine. We're techies over here, and have run into wireless interaction issues before - I suspect that our wireless network or one of our neighbors' wireless networks was causing the interference. Anyway, don't buy this unless you have only the two computers, no wireless network, no cordless phones, and live at least 1/2 mile from anyone who uses any of these devices!

1 out of 5 stars Wireless bad idea for a KVM.......2006-07-17

This product has refused to work properly - it goes through bouts of switching on its own. I've tried different combinations of pc's, keyboards and mice - same issue.

Belkin ignored my email, but their telephone support was easy to reach. There solution - ship out another unit, dinging my credit card until they receive "defective" unit. Chances of getting my original $ back: none.

Bottom line is I think that the unit is too susceptible to RF interference to be used in any office with more than 2 pcs.

1 out of 5 stars crap product...crap support.......2007-03-10

I bought this KVM because I was under the impression you could connect any combination of PC/Mac (with USB keyboard and mouse, of course) and I hooked up my G3 and G4. At first, I tried with the mouse still running into the USB port on the keyboard as usual. This did not work. I shut down both computers, ran the mouse into the KVM, re-booted, and this still didn't work. I then noticed the keyboard was not working on either computer. I e-mailed D-Link and the response I got was, "It appears your keyboard and mouse are not compatible." It appears? It appears I'm going to tell everyone what a piece of crap this product and your service are.

Granted, I was planning on buying a different mouse and I may still try to use this KVM, but I've got a feeling I'll end up buying the Connectpro KVM that everyone is going on about.

1 out of 5 stars This switch would not work and Dlink has no support for it..........2006-12-22

tried with 3 different keyboards but it would not work. I wasted all day just trying to get it to work. And I am not illiterate, I am an engineer. Called DLINK 6 times and wasted another 3 hours they could not and would not help me. Low priority item? Probably. No solutions? Likely. Try to buy Belkin or something else, save lots of hassle.

This USB KVM did not let my keyboard hotkeys (shortcuts) work through it.
D-link support said it will not.

1 out of 5 stars Waste of time and money.......2007-08-31

This switch does not properly scan ports, your lucky if you get half the pc's working the other half need to be rebooted to be detected each time you switch to them... same with PS2 version - Junk

2 out of 5 stars Quite unhappy with switching performance; not recommended.......2006-08-26

Although I have read the reviews written here a priori, I bought the item as I was in desperate need of a 4-port USB KVM in my house, and Omniview looked cute and compact for that purpose. But then I started experiencing most of the problems stated in the reviews. Duh!

- I feel extremely anxious when switching from one computer to another, since most of the time the mouse simply does not function in target computer! This is extremely discomforting and I have to reboot that machine to get it working (I tried switching back and forth at no avail).

- Time to time, while using the keyboard, the last key sticks as if you keep pushing it. One time I was cleaning up my inbox, deleting the unwanted emails. And then all of a sudden the 'DEL' key got stuck and it flushed the whole inbox! Gee, I had to scour through my Deleted Items folder to recover them back...

- No cables included! I had to buy all the cables myself. What a waste of money...

I am giving the two stars for the pleasing looks and design. Functionality-wise it is worse than unsatisfactory. I don't recommend you buying this product now that there are better alternatives I believe. I had a very satisfying experience with Iogear 2 Port Compact USB KVM Switch (GCS632U) earlier.

2 out of 5 stars It works ... barely!!.......2005-03-20

This produce is in desperate need of firmware updates.

First off, when you go to update you have to first run an early update that allows your computer to run the updates. Which isnt documented well.

Second, and BIGGEST!! I am running a microsoft wireless keyboard / mouse combo. Which only has 1 USB! Which you have to plug into the mouse port to make it work. If you plug it into the keyboard port then your mouse wont work. Now the problem is, if oyur keyboard ISNT in the keyboard port then you cant do the hot switching.

So ... basically for what i want it is annoying. I can have my wireless keyboard mouse ... but now i have to go to the kvm (which doesnt sit close to me) to switch computers.

Grrr .... i think what annoys me the most is you'd THINK this would be an easy firmware upgarade

1 out of 5 stars Super Rip-Off!.......2004-12-03

I'm evaluating the DVI version. The cables are sold seperately, so what's the point to buy a KVM without cables?!? This is just way to costly compared to other KVMs out there. I'm in agreement with another reviewer, let's wait until there's more mature DVI versions out there.

Lastly, hearing the problems doesn't surprise me, as working with the two port version, I had some problems where computers becames unresponsive.

1 out of 5 stars Just a warning from an experience with the DVI version.......2004-07-04

I'm extremely unhappy with the Belkin OmniView SOHO Series 4-Port KVM DVI Switch with Audio. I'm sure most of this applies for the VGA version

1) It is nearly impossible to connect a cable to the console DVI Connector. Belkin had to overnight a special extender to connect the monitor DVI cable to the KVM.
2) Connecting the Power Adapter to the KVM blocks one of the peripheral USB ports.
3) It's absolutely impossible to put on the cover (i.e. cable management cover) if you connect the four (Belkin) cables to it.
4) Connecting only two PCs with a resolution of 1600x1200 to the KVM resulted in green shadows for one connection. (both NVidia cards GeForce 4 (4200 series) and a Geforce 5 (5200 series)
5) The Microsoft Wireless Keyboard doesn't work as stated in the manual. I did manage to plug in the wireless dongle connector to the USB mouse port on the KVM but now I can't use the hotkeys to switch between computers. Belkin has also indicated that wireless keyboards don't always work as stated in the manual

6) There isn't a FAQ or software/firmware upgrade listed for this device. I would recommend checking out the belkin support pages or lack there of.

    Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars I won't by this product if I've known about these problems........2006-09-01

I bought this switch to accommodate me for easily switching between 2 cpus using 2 shared monitors. I had to install new video card on each cpu as expected. The problems of this switch are pretty annoying. Why did I say that it is annoying? Because...
The First Problem: everytime I type 60+ more words per minute, it starts to act up. It starts to type itself like if I hold down the same key for period of time, so I have to hold the backspace key to get rid of all the junk. I have to keep retyping passwords over and over again since it messes up the typing. I guess the sensor/connection of this device for keyboard and mouse is not good.
the Second Problem: Whenever both monitors go to screen saver or power monitor off, it won't come back up eventhough I touch the mouse or tab the keyboard or touch this switch or turn on/off the monitors. I actually have to press off/on key on the CPUs (so the PCs did not shut down properly).
Otherwise, I am okay with the other features. So, because of these annoyances, I decided not to use it since it hassles me rather than provides me with efficiency. It is expensive but now it's just sitting covered with dust since I can't return it.

1 out of 5 stars This thing is a piece of junk.......2005-12-07

Hey folks, save yourself the time and effort by buying something with stonger, more reliable tech support.

We bought 2 of these for our video edit bays, and long story short, neither one of them worked out of the box. Took 3 different calls to their tech support to realize that outsourcing isn't always the best idea. Either way, we'll be returning these pieces of junk.

Hope this helps and/or saves you the massive migraine that we experienced.

    Product Description

The Master View CS-1764 DVI KVM Switch charts a revolutionary new direction in KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switch functionality by combining a 4 port KVM switch with a 2 port USB hub at the same time as it provides an interface for a digital monitor (DVI). As a KVM switch, it allows users to access four computers from a single USB keyboard, USB mouse, and monitor console. As a USB hub, it permits each computer to access any peripherals connected to the hub on a one computer at a time basis. The CS-1764 further improves on previous designs with DVI (Digital Visual Interface) connectors, and the transfer of keyboard and mouse data to the computers via a fast, reliable USB connection. DVI supports both digital video input (flat panel displays, data projectors, plasma displays, digital TVs and set-top boxes) and analog video input (traditional monitors and TVs).

    Customer Reviews:

    1 out of 5 stars absolutely worthless.......2007-01-25

The switching between computers is not very good. All functions lack. Audio cut out on switching although my audio was not even running through this KVM device! It was through a separate optical cable. Don't even think about getting this switch to work with a Linux machine. The usb drivers got very confused immediately and would only register every 10-20th keypress. Countless reboot everything sequences did not help. I tried substituting better quality cables to no avail. On my mac with a mac keyboard and the mouse plugged into the keyboard usb port as per normal on a mac, the Mac could not see my mouse. Apparently the KVM switch was removing the mouse signals or insisting they only come into the separate mouse port. I experienced video and audio glitches even on the dual G5 Mac. I have never experienced even a cheap switch that was this bad. DO NOT buy.

3 out of 5 stars Good product ... bad cables........2006-02-19

The product is not bad but it has some limitations that are not clearly mentioned in its specifications. First it does not work well with wireless keyboards and mice. If you try, you will experience erratic mouse movements and unreliable key entries. The second limitation has to do with the use of analog video signals. The box itself handles analog signals nicely but the cables provided don't. DVI cables come in three kind DVI-D that carry only a digital signal, DVI-A that carry only an analog signal and DVI-I that do both. The KVM cables provided are DVI-D so they miss the connections needed for an analog video signal. If your computer has not digital output you will have to replace the KVM cables provided with your own cables - even if your computer has a DVI connector but only an analog output the cables in the box won't work. The easiest solution is to buy a cable with a VGA connector on one end and a DVI-A connector on the other end - or a DVI-A cable if your computer has a DVI connector. You can use regular USB and audio cables for the other connections to your computer. This only solves half of the problem. Now you need to connect your KVM to your monitor. If all your computers are analog your can use the same cable from the KVM to your monitor (but then there was no reason to buy this product in the first place). If you have a mix of digital and analog video outputs, the problem (at least with my monitor) is that the monitor has a separate DVI-D input a digital signal and a VGA input for the analog one, so I had to buy a splitter cable with one DVI-I connector on one end and both a VGA and a DVI-D connector at the other end. Note that you cannot find this kind of cable anywhere but it is available on the web from a few specialized stores (for a handsome sum of money). If your monitor has a DVI-I input, things will be easier, you can use a regular DVI-I cable (provided you have one or can find one).
