Great DVD Player but..........2007-09-27

I did my homework on this one but I guess I failed to do enough. This is a great DVD player, but with the new HD DVD's coming out I did not realize that this would not handle that. I guess I assumed that the HD part of the model number was letting me know it was a HD DVD. It is not. I am sure this is a great product. Everything I read about this player was true. I am returning it though to buy the Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD Player! I am trying to upgrade my system to a High Definition digital 7.1 surround system. I have an old Yamaha AV RX-V592 Receiver and an old RCA 32" tube TV with only an S-Video input. So I figured why not upgrade to something that will handle HD DVD's and more. My next purchase is a new Yamaha HTR-5990 receiver and then a LG LCD TV. So think about buying this Oppo DVD player if you are planning on riding the HD craze. I have to do it in piece by piece, but it is better not wasting your money on something that will be way outdated in only a few months! If anyone wants a good deal on my old Yamaha receiver, email me for info on price.

Best player I have ever owned.......2007-09-27

After reading the great reviews on this player, I decided to buy one. The audio and picture quality are excellent. It has played every disc I have thrown at it. Setup is a breeze and the HDMI cable comes with the player. Overall this is the best player I have ever owned.

buyers beware.......2007-09-26

This dvd player does not live up to the hype. Picture quality is poor with very granulated results along with leaving shadows of previous images for minutes upon minutes outside of the letterbox area. Another problem that I have been having with this player is that all of a sudden the audio will drop. Leaving you with no choice but to eject the disk and restart the process of loading and searching for the correct scene. This review is strictly based upon DVD play as I have yet to play divx using this machine.

After reading mediocre reviews about HD DVD players, I decided to go with the up-converting player. I'm happy with my decision. The DVD movies I play have a clear and bright picture and good sound. I think the OPPO DV-970HD Up-Converting Universal DVD Player was a wise choice.

This DVD player performs very well. All DVDs play smoothly, without any problems, even rented DVDs that may not be cleanest. The only minor annoyance is that there is a slight delay before the tray will open when the machine is first turned on. The impatient user may have to push the eject button a couple of times before the tray opens. But that's a very minor annoyance, and something most people won't even notice.

Trying to charge an mp3 player on a computer which does not have a hi speed usb port takes hours. With this charger I could charge the player in approximately 30-45 minutes. Understandably, there are many various chargers available, but the one fact that convinced me to purchase this charger was it works with Creative players. I really did not want to chance it with another manufacturer which may not have worked. Of course the beauty of a charger is it allows the player to be charged without the use of a computer.....

Charges really quickly; much easier to use than charging through the computer. No instructions, though. I found through trial and error that I need to have the player off and LOCKED before charging. Otherwise, plugging it in only turns on the player and actually uses the battery, but does not charge it. Oy.

The Creative Zen Power adapter makes recharging and use very convenient. No need to hook up to a CPU and I can play my Zen for a 12 hour shift without the battery dying. The Zen is fully charged at the end of the shift for the drive back home and the drive into work the next day! Couldn't live without it!

I do not doubt this product works, but I am quite offended by the fact that this product was not included in the box. What am I to do with a USB charger? I thought this was a portable MP3 player? Does the Job and Cheap (Good/Bad).......2007-09-18

I was looking for a simple iPod charger for the car, already having a 3.5mm stereo input jack on my stereo, and this does the job well. I like that the cigarette lighter adapter part of the charger is not hardwired; it has a female USB socket, into which you can plug the supplied male USB to iPod plug or male USB to male mini-USB cable (great for my fiancee's phone). This means that if I lose the Griffin cable, I can still use the standard white USB iPod cable for charging.

The reason I take off a star is because I dropped the cigarette lighter adapter part on the ground while walking on the sidewalk, and the shell came apart and several metal pieces went flying. It's commendable that even if it "breaks" like this, no plastic was actually harmed and it can be re-assembled fairly easily. I'm still missing one of the non-essential metal pieces, however, and thinking that the only thing holding the part together is the close fit of the cigarette lighter worries me a little.

All in all, it's an inexpensive and versatile product and if it weren't for my clumsiness it would have no visible faults.

This is rated to deliver 400 watts into a resistive load for 60 minutes, according to the manual. The manual warns that this and other modified-sine-wave inverters make a square wave or stepped square wave (not a true sine wave) and may damage cheap rechargeable devices and cheaply-made power tool chargers. Be aware that the AC output voltage will seem low unless a true RMS digital voltmeter or an analog voltmeter is used for the test.

The Cobra CPI 450 Dc-toAc Inverter was a very worthwhile investment. We just completed a two week road trip to Chicago from the Dallas area and because of the inverter, any time my father was short of breath, he could use his breathing machine (Nebulizer) for treatments. He was never afraid to leave the hotel...we had power! Worked great not a care to be had. Made for a great road trip.

When i bought my Vision:M i realized that this little guy is important for transferring media from the computer to the player. But because of its size it can be easily lost (I haven't lost mine but i see how it could happen). For that sole reason alone it is helpful but it takes FOREVER to charge the battery and for a while it was a bit of a nuisance to let it charge completely.

So here's what i boil it down to: If you're putting stuff on VERY good! Charging VERY bad... you'd be better off with the wall charger which is sold separately but... it does the job and does it well. Good luck!

Only reason I don't give 5 stars...
Could have one of those spring loaded retractable cables. And WHY does everyone package stuff in those plastic bubble package things? It is such a hassle to get the product out of the package, and then it just becomes trash. Why not just use a little cellophane bag with a cardboard tab on top? That would be more environmentally friendly, lighter, and easier, and cheaper.

I work as a SAN and storage administrator. Much of the equipement I work on requires the use of a serial port to set up and maintain. Newer laptop computers, unfortunately, aren't equipped with serial ports. So, I bought the USB to RS232 converter to meet my needs. This product works great. It's easy to setup and works just like a built-in serial port. The converter comes with a driver disk. Although Windows Vista drivers were not specifically included on the disk, the Win32/XP drivers worked fine with Vista.

Good Price for Getting Use Out of Legacy Peripherals.......2007-02-16

The DB9M dongle is well built and does it's single task well. The added extender cable is also a nice bonus. This device allows for a male RS-232 (COM*) cable to be attached to a USB port. While the adapter is a female connector, it oddly has screw rods as if it were a male. This in no way affects the connectivity, but simply prevents some devices from being attached with their own screw rods (unless they are very long).

The included drivers are on a 80mm miniCD, so most slot-loading drives will not be able to use them. Using a tray-loading drive and copying the needed materials was no problem for me, though. Drivers for most any version of Windows as well as OSX are included. I was able to connect my Garmin Forerunner 201 GPS unit via Serial cable to my Intel iMac without any trouble using this device.

I use this product with Tiki Navigator navigation s/w to connect my garmin gps 76 map to my laptop. This product was recommended by Tiki Navigator to use because it was previously reviewed as performing perfectly, which it does. It installs easily and with the blue led allows you to see if power is still connected. Highly recommended!

I used this to power a low-wattage shop light 2 or 3 times, then it stopped working. Through email with the company, they told me that the inverter had failed and they wouldn't replace the unit without a reciept. This was a gift to me, so no receipt and they refused to do anything more to help.

Like many other reviewers here, I agree, "THIS WORKS AS ADVERTISED." Thanks, Xantrex. I've bought three, two I use regularly, one I gave to a contractor after we used it to refill his slow-leak tire.

26 pounds is a luggable weight. For me, this is about the right weight considering the tradeoff between portability and battery life.

A few notes. I'm using my two powerpacks in an off-grid RV. I also have a generator. They stay plugged in, so when I run the generator, they are being charged. And when the generator is off, the first powerpack lets me stay connected to a wireless internet service (the dish needs a little power from its connected USB/power cable). And the second powerpack lets me power a nice bright little halogen reading lamp at night for a few hours (the 12V lights are fine for navigation, but not so great to read by). And they are both handy to recharge the cell phone during long calls. I have also used it twice to start a vehicle with a drained battery and it worked fine (except for a badly fitting connection, see below).

If you have to run from a generator for any extended time, they will really save your generator. I figure they cut my generator time by two-thirds. Which saves me fuel, and the life of my generator, but more importantly lets me enjoy the peace and quiet of the wilderness.

I wouldn't try to run a heater or a fan off of them. But either one, fully charged, will more than double the time I can use my laptop from about 5 hours (with the big battery) to about 10 hours. So if weight is not an issue (if, for instance, you are a road warrior roaming around in a vehicle instead of an airplane), this is a helluva deal compared to buying more laptop batteries, or having to run your car just to recharge your laptop.

Here are my only complaints:

* while charging from an AC connection, it would be nice to see the level of charge; currently, I have to unplug it, then press the button, then plug it back in again

* the cigarette-lighter 12v connection to recharge from the car is sticky--not a good fit; also the charging light does not come on to let me know it's working

* the jumper cable connection to 12v is REALLY sticky, I had to break off a piece of the plastic on one of them to get it seated--the people in the factory who were making each part clearly weren't talking to each other that day--and why this particular kluge is ugly is that when you need to jumpstart your car, chances are your nerves are already a little frazzled, and having to jam the connection to get it working had me swearing

* 20 amp hour battery just does not last that long--like all of these devices, optimistic estimates of usage time should be cut by one-third to one-half

Otherwise, really, I think every household should have at least one of these. At this price and weight, it just can't be beat. You'll be happy you have it when you need it. So will anyone you buy it for.

So-far so good on the Powerpack 400. So far I've used it to jump my car, inflate more than a few tires and power my laptop when the battery ran low, and so far it's come through like a champ. At $80 with free shipping (when I bought it), the price was right, and when I compared it to similar units, it just seemed like the more versatile, robust unit available at this particular price point. So far it's gone through the paces and worked like a champ. If you need something like this to power your appliances on a trip or have a little extra security when things go wrong, you could definitely do worse.

Just received my powerpack. Did as the manual asked regarding charging. Tried it out and it works great. You can't compare it to a generator, but it provides clean safe power on minor appliances in blackouts. It's very important to follow the charging instructions. Recharge was rather quick.

Portable Power on a Camping Trip........2007-06-12

I read many of the reviews I saw and while many seemed somewhat negative, I thought I'd give this a try. The packages arrived in good shape and there was no product damage (ground shipping). They were near fully charged so no delay there. Used the one unit to power our DVD player and the bigger unit for odds and ends. After three days, they both still had a fair charge left and had not quit yet.

The only negative is that the one unit has a radio that kept comming on at odd times. I still haven't fixed that problem yet, but I will.

Didn't work for me........2007-09-14

I tried to use this on my laptop with a ps/2 keyboard. It worked for about 50 char and would just stop working. I tried to unplug it and replug it.. again.. about 50 or so char. I gave up and bought a usb keyboard.. that works great.

Anybody that has an older keyboard or mouse that used PS-2 connectors will need this as computers start only having USB ports. It works great with no configuration needed.

Only One Problem.......2007-02-24

I use this every day to connect my PS/2 keyboard and mouse to my laptop's USB. The only problem is that the first key that I hit after booting up always comes out as gobbledeegook. However, once the cache or whatever is cleared it works great the rest of the day.
