The AS-P400 is a high powered active subwoofer designed for use in high powered Audio Video systems, like a system comprised of AUDITION Series speakers from athena TECHNOLOGIES. A custom designed 400 watt peak, 100 watt RMS amplifier drives the over built 10" Injection Molded polypropylene woofer, both built in house in athena's Toronto facility. The cabinet is a front firing, front vented design which allows for much easier room placement than traditional rear vented designs.The controls have been conveniently located on the front of the sub. I decided to buy the AS-P400 in addition to the Point 5 system by Athena Tech. after reading several glowing audiofile reviews on line. It's now been exactly a year and the system still leaves me grinning from ear to ear! The sub is tight, powerful and perfectly balanced with Point 5 speakers.
AS-P400 is a tremendous value and a true sensory delight, both for music listening and viewing your movies!

I upgraded my entire HT system from decent JBLs/Yamaha YST sub to Athena mix-n-match speakers and this sub (incidentally, the Amazon picture is incorrect - it shows the newer, somewhat inferior downward firing AS-P4000!). (update: Yes - they've now fixed the images as requested - this set of pictures IS of the AS-P400; thanks Amazon. Rest assured that the wooden enclosure looks very rich/dark and is solid - even though the photographs no longer reflect that)
I was absolutely blown away by how much more effective the Athena is than the Yamaha sub, despite having VERY similar ratings. It moves tonnes of air (almost literally!) and has great sensitivity. You no longer have to miss the low (intensity and frequency) rumbles and effect sounds in the background sounds or theme during intense dialog. It is shocking how much more immersive your experience will be by adding this almost-cheap sub!
Setup is easy, I'm using a single RCA cable for pre-amplified LFE signal, because using the sub's internal crossover is moot now that I can set it's cutoff specifically for the Athena AS-B1's that are my front speakers.
Truly a great value!
Ignore the other reviewer's sour experience. Almost any respectable manufacturer will only warranty items sold ONLY through authorized vendors. And these Athenas are priced so well that there is almost NO point skimping a few pennies to buy from anyone but authorized sellers.

I purchased Athena Technologies subwoofer from a e-retailer, and Athena Technologies customer service refused to service the defective subwoofer. I am stuck with a $250 dollar subwoofer that doesn't even power up.

Excellent portable cassette/radio with great sound and features for the price. Radio has am/fm/tv/weather bands. Manually set 30 radio stations or use autoprogram feature to automatically scan and set stations. Also has exercise functions and stopwatch. Power light indicates when unit is on and battery strength. Base unit has lockout feature to prevent accidentally turning on unit or unintended changes to radio station. Headset has long cord with inline remote control (controls radio/tape volume, radio tuner, and presets). Remote also has lockout feature.

This is by far the best workout CD player on the market for the money. It has incredibley good sound and many times I prefer to listen to CD's in this than my expensive system...Puts you in a muscial trance while working out...Best buy for the money...

Advent's Heritage Series H500 loudspeaker poses a stylish, affordable entry to quality music and/or home theater listening. The full-range floorstanding speaker is sold by itself, so pick up 2 (left/right) for starters or buy 4 or 5 for use as surround and/or surround and center speakers.
Use caution when planning the H500's position as a center speaker, as its 42-inch height will conflict with the position of many TVs; a flat-panel television mounted to the wall above and behind a speaker would probably work nicely. Many of today's music-only surround-sound media--such as DVD-Audio, multichannel SACD, and DTS surround CDs--are mixed with 5 or more full-range speakers in mind, so if you have separate music and movie rooms, 5 speakers is the way to go.
The speaker uses a 3-way design with 5 independent drivers: a soft-dome tweeter and a combination of four 4-inch woofers positioned within the speaker enclosure to maximize their efficiency at the required frequency range for each. With 89 dB sensitivity, the speaker should be fairly easy to drive, and Advent recommends use with amplifiers pumping anywhere from 10 to 200 watts per channel.
Advent also recommends standard 16-gauge speaker wire or, ideally, larger 14- or 12-gauge multi-stranded cable for connecting the H500 to your amplifier or integrated amp/surround receiver.

having owned many brands of loudspeakers over the years,this is my first pair of advents.and i could not be happier! a bargain at 200.00 apiece,a steal at anything less. crisp clean highs,nice tight bass.dual sets of gold plated 5-way binding posts.build quality is excellent.these speakers are tall so a little tipsy on thick pile carpet. grilles a little tough to remove but worth time. 5 -4 inch mid-woffers -1 inch dome.stellar looks and sound to match.owners manual is joke,very very vague.do not hesitate to pull the trigger and purchase these beautys.

I have to say if I were Thai and wanted to learn english, or use it to speak english for me, this and other models will do. But this does not work both ways, it only speaks english and translates to english. If you try to take thai script to english you will end up with nonsense, and a few laughes. It is a shame with the tech available that they missed out on making a great product. I have a talking english spanish translator from franklin that is simple to use and useful. I can only hope they will learn from their mistakes.

If you don't speak Thai then this is not the product for you. It wasn't clear in the description, but the translator only works if you know how to read thai characters. When it translates from english to thai it writes it in thai characters. It looks like a great translator though for somebody who wants to learn english and knows thai.

JVC's silver, 30-inch AV-30W475 widescreen I'Art series TV is loaded with innovative home-theater features like black-level expansion and an Invar shadow mask to produce detailed, high-contrast images. With widescreen presentations such as DVD movies, a 30-inch picture is bigger than it might seem. If you're used to watching letterboxed movies on a 27-inch screen with a standard 4:3 aspect ratio, for instance, the resultant widescreen image is equivalent to that of a 24-inch 16:9 set. The AV-30W475's 30-inch screen gives you a widescreen picture that's 5 inches wider and 2.5 inches taller than the image you'd be seeing on a 27-inch set.
The AV-30W475's 3-line digital comb filter enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture. An apacon circuit further enhances low-level details for greater picture sharpness.
The AV-30W475 also offers JVC's Natural Cinema 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, which lets you watch DVD-based movies in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; Natural Cinema digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.
The AV-30W475 receives not only stereo broadcasts, but Second Audio Programming (or SAP), too, and a Hyper Surround circuit simulates surround sound from any 2 speakers. BBE High-Definition Audio improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages.
A set of component-video inputs accept video from compatible DVD players and satellite systems, while S-video and standard RCA composite-video inputs accommodate most other video sources. The set offers a total of 3 audio/video inputs, one of which is built into the side panel so you can hook up a VCR, camcorder, or gaming console. Widescreen but not HD ?.......2005-09-01
I was very skeptical at first. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why JVC decided to produce a 16:9 TV without it at least being "Progressive" capable. For the record, this TV isn'e capable of displaying HDTV images, well that is and isn't entirely true.
Hooking up my Motorola HDTV box from Comcast (which was connected to an HDTV at the time - configured to 16:9 set / Component out = 1080i / 480i Override - Stretch), I noticed one little thing - I had NO picture. I had to go into the sub-menu (accessible only using front controls with the unit off) and set the Component Out to 480i ...... there it is. Picture
What was surprising to see is INHD (a Comcast HD channel) displayed in 16:9 and at a very good resolution. But it was only 480i. However, the picture was crystal clear and everything was vibrant and the Aspect Ratio (of 16:9) was correct. Switching to a local HD broadcast (of a program actually in HD) revealed the same widescreen noise-free picture. And it does inded look real good. It's an HD picture displaying in SD (Standard Defintion), but I guarantee you that the folks that will likely see it, will have a hard time noticing the difference. Even SD channels like Sci-Fi / Comedy look good, and probably better than what you get on HD sets, because the signal is still analog - on an analog set.
I was very pleased to see the HD channels displayed in (very close) to 16:9. You have to put the Aspect into 'Cinema', which is what I usually leave it in anyway.
The drawback obviously is that this set will not produce 'true' 1080i or even 480p images. But then again, if the picture looks great, there's no noise or artifacting and the image is 16:9 - who cares if it's "really" HD.
You certainly won't get a 30" Widescreen TV with options like D6500k Color Temp., Velocity Scan Modulation (on/off), a Timer that can automatically turn the TV on and off at programmable times (handy for when you go out of town), BBE (High Definition Audio) and Advanced Hyper Surround, and it even has a tilt correction (which oddly tilts the picture on its axis - not sure why its even an issue, but if you picture ever starts to lean to the side, you can fix it) - not for less than $350

It is what it is.
It's an Analog Widescreen TV, and it's the only 30" Widescreen you'll find for the money. If you just need a TV for Gaming / DVD viewing this will do it beautifully. You will not be disappointed in the money you'll save.
However, if you NEED it to be capable of 1080i, do yourself a favor and pay DOUBLE for this set to get one that will.
Highly recommended for people that want there HDTV, DVD and VideoGames in 16:9 format, but don't really care if it's in Progressive Scan.
Good, but fails to live up to full potential.......2004-11-13
This set has very good resolution, excellent colors and great looks. The big "but" here is the screen geometry, which at least in my unit leaves much to be desired. The image is uneven from side to side, being more stretched towards the sides than in the center. This is very noticeable with the normal FULL setting for 16x9 playback, less so with the REGULAR 4x3 ratio. If it wasn't for this, this model would warrant a 4 star rating -it certainly has all the features and adjustments one could possibly want in a TV set. JVC needs to take a look at the picture geometry problem, this crucial adjustment isn't being performed correctly at their factory.

Nice picture quality, but still far away from the HDTV's. The TV is quite heavy and big. It takes two people to move it. Great TV if you want to watch movies 16:9 but you do not want to invest in HDTV yet.
