Their extended high-frequency response lends them to music appreciation from high-resolution audio media like DVD-Audio and SACD.

The discrete, compact format of these AudioSource speakers makes them ideal for applications where traditional speakers would be impractical or impossible. Each speaker measures just 9 inches across and sits 3.25 inches deep (within your ceiling). The speakers may be used wherever you need to conserve space or wherever you'd to bring music to additional rooms in the house, augmenting a traditional stereo set in your main listening area. You could even use them for home theater surround speakers (rear left/right), though most movies and multichannel music releases are mixed for more direct listening.

The IC6S speakers offer 90 dB sensitivity, which makes them easily driven by modest amplifiers. They're rated for use with amps pushing up to 75 watts per channel.

Once installed, the in-ceiling speakers are not easily moved or repositioned. Take a little extra time to carefully consider a good location before you begin your installation. Unlike traditional speakers, in-wall/in-ceiling speakers mount flush and cannot be angled or aimed back into the listening area from the corners of a room. As a general rule, the speakers should be mounted close to, or above, ear level, and at least one-third of the distance from the corner of the room to the center of the wall or ceiling in which you will mount them.

The speaker terminals will accommodate up to 16-gauge speaker wire (wire not included), which should be used for longer connections (greater than 50 feet of wire). For shorter distances, 18- or 20-gauge speaker wire will be adequate. Leave about two feet of extra wire at the speaker end to make installation and positioning of the speaker easier.

Great value.......2006-05-16

For the price this product represents a tremendous value. For general whole house sound system these are great speakers. I will not use them in my home theatre application though. For that I will invest more money. But for general listening these are great. I have a 12 zone whole house audio system, and these are perfect. I highly recommend them.

Awesome for the price.......2006-04-11

My wife and I closed on a new house 6 months ago, and before that, we were able to get in and prewire the house for speakers. We had paid the builder something outrageous like $1200 to prewire the living room for 5.1 surround sound, but I wanted speakers in other rooms as well and didn't want to pay top dollar for it. I wound up buying 3 100' spools of Monster in-wall speaker cable for about $100 each and wired the master suite for 4 speakers in the bedroom and 2 in the bathroom, and one of the other bedrooms for 4 speakers. I did a lot of research on speakers before finally deciding on these AudioSource ones. The reviews were great and the price couldn't be touched. I got 5 pairs of speakers for $50 a pair. Add that to the wiring cost and I spent $550 to prewire and install 10 great-sounding in-ceiling speakers. As a comparison, the living room prewire cost $1200 from the builder and it didn't come with speakers. I already had some high-end B&W speakers for that room, so I went with those and my Denon reciever downstairs.

I'm no audiophile, but my unscientific comparison would put the AudioSource setup with a $200 Sony reciever and $50 center channel speaker at about 90% of the quality of the better B&W speakers w/ Denon reciever (which sounds totally awesome). I spent roughly $1800 on the reciever and speakers for the living room, plus another $1200 on the prewire. Total about $3000. In the bedroom, I spent $150 on speakers, $150 on cables, and $200 on the reciever, total about $500.

I'm not handy at all and I installed all 10 without a hitch in a day. Overall, great speakers for the money, easy to install, and a great price.

For the money - u cant beat them.......2005-12-20

I was a bit skeptical - however after reading reviews and having a friend who has them throughout his house, decided to buy just one pair and install them. Once I adjusted bass/treble on my amp, they sounded great. I have heard klpishes and bose and those are much much more expensive. For the money, these are great. I was cranking them and they did not distort. The 6 inch provides a good bit of bass as well. That also depends on what you are using to push them.

Very satisfied. I am purchasing more soon to do my entire main level and basement.

Good crisp sound in a small package.......2005-11-23

I was a little hesitant to purchase these, but after reading the reviews and the seeing the price drop, I had to commit. I usually purchase Polk or other high end speakers, but I needed something for an A-BUS system that won't be played very loud. These speakers are great for the dining room, kitchen, master bed and loft. In these locations music is played at a moderate level for dining and family enjoyment. It's not where we blast our favorite music, and the speakers perform very well. And somehow the music travels very well horizontally. So even if you don't have speakers installed in every room, you will likely hear music throughout the house. This is one pleasant surprise I didn't expect. By the way, I compared these to my Polk RC80i and the sound quality was very similar. I could tell by turning up the amps that the Polk is a little better quality, but at low levels of volume, the IC6S does a good job at keeping up. So if you are doing multi-room audio, you may want to consider the IC6S.

You cant go wrong With the Audio Source IC6s Speakers.......2005-10-20

I just recevied my shipment of speakers and installed them all in one day. These speakers are a snap to install and drawing out your game plan is a big plus prior to installation. They sound great and for the price in my opinion, ther is not a better speaker on the market. I installed approx 11 speakers through out my house and the ambient music is great. I also used 4 of them in my den for my surround sound system they look and sound great. My nephew who installs home audio for a living turned me on to the speakers and he also feels they are the best bang for your buck. Lets just say this i have Approx $350.00 dollars invested in my whole house speaker setup and it sounds just as good or better then the model homes wich came with a builders option upgrade right around $3,000 dollars. No rocket science here.

Typical Aiwa quality.......2000-01-20

This is a great receiver. Like every Aiwa product I've ever owned/seen it's worth every penny. Plenty of input options, and the sound quality is top notch. I only have a few small complaints. One is that it's a bit busy looking with a plethora of buttons on the front panel. If you're searching for something very streamlined looking, this might not be a good choice. And I'd like to see a more useful universal remote included with a component of this quality and cost. The remote controls the receiver, TV, Cable, VCR and a CD player. I'd really expect to see controls for a DVD player, and the ability to run a CD changer and not just a single CD player. Sorta a waste to have a 200 disc changer and only be able to access the 1st disc with the remote. :)

Piece of garbage.......2006-08-03

The ear pads both came off within a few weeks--it looks like they were glued into place with a few dabs from a glue stick. I replaced them with additional glue, which has met with limited success. The shoddy ear pads, coupled with the poor noise-reduction quality (it hisses--how is hissing better than ambient noise?), was absolutely no match for the final straw: the left ear piece broke off. That's not glue-able and nobody is interested in refunding me the money. Do not buy this product! Get a Bose or Sennheiser--those guys are serious about their noise-reduction headphones. They may be pricier but they're definitely worth it.

Some assembly required.......2006-07-25

I don't know what headphones you people are talking about, but I got the Altec lansing AHP-712 ones and both of the earphones fell off within 15 minutes of having them out of the package.

They are taped in with 4 small bits of cheap double sided tape. This is an outward sign of poor crafstmanship that is an indication of what is inside as well. Sure it comes with some trinkets, but the audio isn't that great. I haven't tried it with a battery in though so I don't know what they sound like with that. I have a huge head and they do fit!

Great for the price.......2006-05-22

Just broke my headphones in on a long business trip.

No, they don't shut out 100% of the background noise (duh), they aren't the most dynamically responsive headphones on the market (double-duh), and they aren't so comfortable that you don't know they are there.

They *are* a good pair of headphones and do noticeably reduce the low frequency background noise typically found in a jet cabin environment, all for a very affordable price.

Battery life was good - maybe 20 hours worth.

They don't fold into a terribly compact arrangement - essentially the cups swivel 90 degrees so the unit is more flat. I don't think that's unreasonable, but some may think that's it's still too bulky.

Good ear and headband padding. All-in-all, I think I got my money's worth.

Great but have some flaws........2006-05-09

I purchaced the headphones a couple of weeks ago looking for a good sounding pair of headphones with a decent noise canceling feature.

I was very happy with the sound of the headphones without the active noise canceling feature turned on. I loved the phones ability to produce low level frequencys, somthing I look for when I purchace headphones. The low level didnt get mudded out by a high midrange song or sound. I currently use these headphones for gameing.

I am currently sitting In a room with them on, there is a pump running behind me pumping water out of my flooded room. The pump is very loud and annoying, there is also a dehumidifier running just to my left. With the active noise canceling on I cant hear the dehumidifier whatsoever even during silent periods between songs ect. I can barely hear the pump running and without these phones I would be driven up a wall and back. This said however....
When I turn on the noise canceling feature I have to completely adjust the equalizer on my X-FI so the sound still remains correct, it really takes the high end out and fills up the midrange so it sounds like my dads car stereo.

I love the phones for the price but having to change my equalizer to compensate for the noise cancelation is a hassle, 4 stars.

DOA Noise Canceler.......2006-04-04

Out of the box, the AHP-712's noise cancelation feature didn't work. No sound at all. Well, maybe that means it totally worked (ha!). Anyway, with cancelation switch off, they did sound pretty good. Awaiting replacement and better results.

Update 12 April 2006: Received replacement headphones. They are working as expected in noise cancel mode.
