great ink for a great printer.......2004-02-01

I have had a Canon S630 for over a year now, and I love it. After having problems with Epson and HP printers, I tried the Canon and was astonished with the print quality. The only down side is I got my S630 before they came out with the larger format version, which I would have wanted. Certainly not Canon's fault there. I have printed 8x10s from a 2 megapixel Olympus digital camera, and was pleased with how close it came to 35mm for the price. Since 35mm has considerably more resolution than 2 megapixels, obviously there is a clear difference. However, this printer did a fine job of substituting for the One Hour Photo average picture taking level, and has saved me a ton of money.

I also do not recommend generic or refill inks for printers, as I had an HP printer ruined by them. I prefer the separate tanks for each color as well, for the simple fact that they don't make you waste ink. I have gotten over 40 8x10s out of one set of ink tanks, but it varies widely with color saturation and picture content, so I don't think it is possible to give any accurate figures for usage. Another plus for Canon is that the print head is not a part of the ink cartridge, so you don't have to pay to replace that every time you replace ink tanks, unlike some other brands of printers. While there may be some value to that kind of system, Canon's system is less expensive to the user.

The ink doesn't seem to dry out very fast with long periods of inactivity, although it is better for the printer to use it regularly. I also like the fact that the low ink warnings give enough time so that one can plan one's usage carefully to maximize what you have left and not run out of a color in the middle of a critical print.

I have been using Canon inks and printers for years and awhile back, I decided to try out some of those generic ink tanks and ink kits (you know, the ones with the syringes?). Both ruined my printer, after awhile. They seem to work initially, but you can tell the colors are off. Sure, the generic inks are so much cheaper, but the costs of getting a new printer are going to make up for those few $ you saved on ink. Trust me on this one, buy Canon OEM cartridges!

Great Idea to Use Seperate Color Ink Cartridges.......2003-07-30

My old HP printer used one cartridge for red, blue, and yellow. If I ran out of one color, I would have to buy a new [$$$] cartridge. The great thing about the Canon BCI-3e cartridges is that you can replace individual cartridges as you run out of ink. If you run out of yellow first, you can replace the yellow cartridge now and wait until the blue and magenta cartridges run out before replacing them, for example.

The great thing about buying all three cartidges at once is that you have a supply of refills waiting. The drawback, though, is that if you use one color much more than the others, you are better off buying that cartidge seperately versus buying all three in one group.

I have a Canon S600 printer that I use quite often for doing pictures so I only use OEM inks in it. The separate ink tank system in some of the Canon printers is nice as you don't have that "I just threw good ink away" feeling you get with the combined color cartridge systems when you have to replace them because one color ran out. I have actually purchased this 3 pack in the past and it usually saves you a couple bucks over buying them separate. I would suggest buying them directly from one of the office supply on-line stores as they always have coupons available and normally you can get free shipping as well by purchasing a set amount from the site. No bad experiences with this ink in about 20 ink tanks used.

I make only infrequent use of my Canon Multipass printer, sometimes letting it stand idle for several weeks. For whatever reason, the black ink tanks clog the printhead after prolonged disuse whereas the color ones keep functioning. Although more likely to happen with a clone, the same has occurred with Canon originals. Before throwing out the printer (and I've come close), run it through the cleaning cycle at least 5 successive times and try printing again. If it's still not working right, do another 5 cleaning cycles. So far, that's done the trick for me, but if 10 times doesn't produce the desired result, you'll need to do some invasive surgery on the printhead itself.

As for using cartridges from clone manufacturers, my experience has been that they often require far more "priming" than the original manufacturer's product. As a result, you're wasting ink and saving less money than you may have thought.

Also, when ordering Canon ink supplies, beware the manufacturer's confusing and inconsistent use of the terms "ink cartridge" and "ink tank." It's led to my receiving the wrong item on more than one occasion.

Buy the original ink tank and you'll won't be sorry. Some of the refill kits or the generic ones can clog.

I bought 3 Canon BJP black cartridges. The rebate offer was to buy 3 and get a rebate for the 3 one. I followed all directions and just received a denial. The card states that I did not buy 3 of the same product. In fact, I did. I bought one single cartridge and one twin pack of the same cartridge. What was the problem with getting the rebate??

It was normal at first, but after only two or three printings, it started to look like it was already running out of ink. I used it alongside an official Canon color cartridge, so hopefully that didn't have any influence on it. As much as I like to save money, I'm not going to try using only Rhinotek cartridges... I'm sticking with the official cartridges that WORK until they are actually out of ink!

(In actuality, the main reason I bought this was because it was eligible for Prime and the regular Canon cartridge wasn't)

I bought this product two months ago. It works, but it's wetter than the original Canon BCI-24B. Some characters don't look so solid as printed by the original one (actually, the original one is so perfect that the effect is even close to a laser printer if you only print some text in grayscale). Considering the price does not make much difference, I'd buy the original one next time.

I gave it 4 stars at first but have since carefully watched my printouts and every single one has smeared..and that's just with the black ink. I refuse to try the colored after this. I guess you get what you pay for.
