Works like it should (except).......2007-06-08
The Belkin 4-port KVM works very well except for one little problem. The Microsoft mouse will not scroll with the wheel. I can change from one computer to the others just fine. Still working on the mouse though. I would still recommend this product.
not that great.......2007-03-30
I had lots of problems with this KVM losing connection to my keyboard and mouse when switching between computers. The only way I was able to fix this was by using a converter that took the KB and Mouse PS/2 connections from the kvm cable and turned them into a single USB connection. $50 for two of these to fix a problem that shouldn't have been there in the first place. Cheaper than a new KVM I suppose.
I also have a lot of trouble using the KVM keyboard shortcut in Windows 2000, causing me to have to reach across my desk to hit the button on the KVM to switch to another computer, rather annoying.
It works fine with my monitor though, even at 1600x1200@85Hz, which is how it gets two stars instead of one.
My recommendation is to avoid this product.
So far So Good.......2007-03-23
I have had this Switch for about 3 months now and I am very pleased.
I had the two switch version, but lost a monitor and instead of buying another monitor, I bought this.
I have not had any problems switching between my four computers. One computer has Vista, one XP, and two have 2003 Server.
Only two pair of my cables are belkin cables. The other cables are a different brand and the cables work just fine.
My model frequently failed to detect mouse and/or keyboard.......2006-07-29
I used Belkin KVMs (OmniView SEs) in the late 90s and they worked very well; this model failed repeatedly and consistently to detect attached mice/keyboards on start up. If the system wasn't set to the PC that was booting, it was as good as useless, too.
I gave up and purchased a different brand. The replacement works flawlessly; I couldn't even sell the Belkin on eBay.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this model. In fact, I recommend you do not buy it.
Problems with modern mice.......2004-01-29
I have this device and a 2-port Linksys. Frequently with this one, I get a delay in or totally lose my mouse control when switching between computers. I'm using a MS optical mouse that is natively USB, with a USB-to-PS2 converter attached that could be a problem. Just a warning to those with similar configurations that they may get similar results. The Linksys KVM has no problems with my setup.

Customer Reviews:
I just loooove my KVM!.......2007-01-04
One keyboard, mouse and monitor to rule them all! Great for switching between work and home machines and only needing one mouse, keyboard and monitor. A nice easy way to reduce a cluttered home office.
2 new units break down within 30 days - Lemons or bad products?.......2006-07-10
My job requires a KVM switch for QA purposes to test different OS/browser combinations. In building the lab I decided to go with Belkin after researching various switches. I'm configuring a lab with a Mac G4, Mac mini, NC6000 laptop and HP DC5100 mini tower. I'm using the HP supplied keyboard and mouse, and a ViewSonic 19 LCD flatscreen.
The first KVM worked well for right at 30 days. At that point the mouse began to act erratic, followed shortly by the switch only working in the #1 slot (laptop). I ordered a second switch and the same thing happened within 30 days again.
I'm going to return the switch and try the well rated IOGear MiniView 4 Port USB KVW.
When they said SOHO, they really meant it.......2006-06-14
My first impression of the Belkin OmniView SOHO Series 4-Port KVM Switch was that it was HUGE! The futuristic design takes up unnecessary amount of space for a KVM switch with only 4 ports. That said, it looks COOL enough to have on your desk, but the problem is, it quickly becomes uncool when you attach four sets of cables to the unit. The cable "management" cover (which only hides the cables) will not fit back on the unit with 4 sets of cables bulging out from the unit.
Like the other reviewers, I also had problems with unrecognized PS/2 and USB devices during startup. This is because the OmniView SOHO has crumby mouse emulation. A more professional KVM switch will emulate a mouse/keyboard signal when the computer searches for attached devices during startup. So, any kind of Windows or Linux machine is out of luck. Only Macs will rescan the ports when the KVM is switched to its port... so that means, if you only have Macs, you won't have this problem. Other's will just have to sit in front of the computers and switch the ports while they startup one computer at a time.
So let's say you have 4 Macs connected to the unit. Once you press a button to switch between computers, it takes a few seconds for the new screen to appear. This is more of a electric issue than anything. Your monitor and computer must sync refresh rates and resolutions because your computer thinks there's a new monitor. You'd see this issue with a lot of other entry level KVM switches.
BTW, YES the cables ARE sold separately. But that's because they have USB and PS/2 versions. IoGear's MiniView (cables included) is a much better (albeit vanilla box) alternative for an entry level 4 port KVM.
Absolutely awful.......2006-03-23
Followed the instructions to the letter. PCs would not work once connected and even worse stopped XP starting up - had to go back to restore point. Belkin email support is next to useless. I would strongely recommend buying a KVM product from another supplier.
There are better KVM solutions.......2005-03-19
Besides the fact you have to buy the cables separately as others have mentioned, Belkin support is horrible. The automated system consistenly disconnects the call, requiring going through their operator. My 4-port KVM stopped functioning after six months. There's no information on the web to help either. It's as if there IS no way to fix a KVM that doesn't work. Flash upgrading is a joke. I followed the procedure directly from Belkin's website. So I had to RMA replace it. Trust me, Belkin doesn't care about its customers and arrogance will be their downfall. Go with IOGEAR - they include all the cables with the KVM switch for the price of Belkin's without cables.

Customer Reviews:
So bad. So so bad. Wouldnt take more if they were free. If they paid me even........2007-05-19
This has got to be the most horrid piece of hardware to ever enter my life.
Like an idiot, I ordered six of these as I was building up a new server room. Every single day I spend in the office I regret this decision.
Why this is a piece of junk:
a/ The on-screen-display (OSD) feels like it was written for a high school computer science project, by a football player. You cannot see the OSD unless the current port selected is getting an active video signal from the currently chosen host. In other words, if you shutdown the current server and the video card stops sending a signal, you are locked out of the OSD! If you are moving down the list of ports on the OSD and hit a port that has no active machine connected to it, you lose the OSD! To clear this you must hit the refresh button on the KVM itself a few times.
b/ The labels you assign to each KVM port from the OSD can very easily disappear att at once, reverting back to "Channel 1" "Channel 2" etc.
There is a very easy to typo keyboard shortcut for
"clear all the machine names from the OSD all at once without telling me it has happened". This command btw is NOT listed on the OSD menu itself, so it is even more infuriating when it happens, since you are not really sure what you did you did to wipe all your configs out.
c/ The mouse emulation is even worse than the OSD (somehow). If you intend on using this KVM on your Linux cluster, forget about it. More often than not, the following will occur: your machine will not POST until you unplug the mouse, if using GNOME your mouse will go into 'crazy mouse' mode, hitting random places on your desktop dozens of times a second, when you use the scroll wheel on the mouse, your pointer either locks up or disappears. Due to the above issues, I had a very important server get rebooted in the middle of the day (the crazy mouse must have hit the Log Off menu, then the Shutdown button, then pressed the mouse at exactly the right moment). You can possibly fix this issue by adding this line to your GRUB config btw, but this seems like a dumb workaround for a product that shouldn't suck so much in the first place:
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.8-1.521 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet psmouse.proto=bare
d/ The channel names on the OSD are not in alphabetical order. There is actually no way to sort them at all. A minor inconvenience yes, but when added to the rest it becomes yet another reason to hate this product.
e/ The characters you can use on the OSD are limited to alphanumeric only. No -, no /, no ", no anything else but '[a-Z][1-0]'. This is really annoying if you have machines called for example "test-01" or "cvs-branch-02". There is also no Backspace function, you must left arrow back to the very beginning and re-type your machine name. The characters typed also have a nasty habit of being entered twice if you type more than 20 words per minutes, which in addition to the fact there is no backspace means entering the same machine name multiple times until the KVM is happy.
f/ The "special" daisy-chain cables Belkin wants to sell you for up to $100 a piece, are simple straight through db-25 serial cables. Of course they say their fancy gold plated blah blah blah is far superior to anything else out there. Do not waste your money on these cables, it is a rip-off stacked on top of a bigger rip-off.
I have spent a considerable amount of time online, looking through IT and Sysadmin forums, reading other peoples' experiences who have the same exact issues I have had with these units. These problems have been around for a long time, and there is no apparent fix, or even acknowledgment, of these issues from Belkin.
And if you think you will have better luck using this KVM on your Windows machines, guess again. All of the OSD issues will still be there, and, I have seen the mouse go into crazy mouse mode on XP Pro SP2 machines.
Avoid these units at all costs. They are barely worth being free if you want to use them in a production environment. Having your CVS machines reboot because of some terrible mouse emulation, or spending an extra 10 minutes finding the machine you desperately need to work on because the on screen display has cleared the list of servers at the exact moment you need it the most, is NOT worth saving a few hundred dollars in the short, medium, or long term.
Just don't do it. Don't buy these units. Please.
If someone from Belkin would like to contact me for their chance to explain these issues and offer solutions, I would be more than happy to discuss them and amend this review. Until then, I will put these units up for auction and hope some greater fool will take them off my hands.

Didn't work for me.......2006-03-28
I couldn't get this product to work, at least not consistently.
Since it doesn't have an external power supply, it appears to draw power from the USB connectors you hook up to the two computers. One isn't enough to keep it happy, it just flashes it's LEDs (yes I had it hooked up directly to powered USB ports on the computers themselves). So if you have one of the computers turned off, or sleeping, you're screwed.
When I did have both computers turned on, it would lock to one of the two computers and no matter how many times you pushed the switch on the top it would only temporarily switch to the other computer, then almost immediately switch back. No obvious reason.
Then of course there's the design--this is intended to go on your desktop? With cables out both ends? If all the cables hooked up to the back or something that might make sense.
I'd have to say this product continues my experience with Belkin products--generally unimpressive stuff. Buy from another vendor.
This Switch has exceeded my expectations.......2006-03-15
This review is going to be short since I do not have much time into using the product as of yet. I will update later after some extensive use. After reading the horrible reviews about the ps2 version of this switch I was a bit skepticle about going with belkin. The only other player in my price range and stocked at my local store was the Iogear usb kvm(white). I just bought the Microsoft 6000 wireless desktop with laser mouse, and was currently using an Iogear PS2 kvm switch. With microsofts new implementation of the "F" key I could not get the switch to work consistantly. Even trying the registry fixes out there to disable that "F" key did not work. The mouse and keyboard are nice and I have gotten used to the comfort curve stle of the keyboard, so it was time to get another switch, in the 70 dollar range. That brings me back to this USB belkin vs the USB Iogear. It appeared that iogear did not make any changes to its switch. The belkin offered Software switching, hardware switching, and the Hotkey switching. Both offered audio. hooked up the belkin and the keyboard and mouse work flawlessly. Sound works flawlessly too. Even with an Asus motherboard that auto senses audio signals, this switch does not cause any problems. The other mobo is an ECS. For fast switching I installed the software hotkey, since mousing is quicker than hitting keys for me. I also don't have the problem of video degradation as I did with the Iogear ps2 switch, for which i had to constantly auto adjust the monitor. This Belkin USB switch has truly shown to be plug and play. And for someone who always has at least one function not work properly on any switch, I was very surprised. I am still blown away that everything works flawlessly and as it is supposed to and I don't have to live with small inconveniences I am used to with switches. I have used the expensive Omni switches, the older manual switch boxes, Iogear switches, and this would be the first belkin. The one major plus about this switch is that the scroll works on my microsoft mouse, both ways, and as fast as it is supposed to . With other switches the emulation was so bad that the scroll was slow and delayed, but this one works great. The only lag that you notice on the mouse is when it goes into power saving mode, which isn't that noticable to me. So far things are working well. If things turn the other way, then I may try the d-link usb kvm switch.
