Once again, don't let the big box stores hoodwink you into spending your hard earned money and trying to make up their lost revenue on "loss leader" stuff by charging outrageous prices for the necessary hookup cables.
I found this cable does exactly what it is supposed to do: hook up either to my DVD recorder or my PC for movie downloads from a new Canon DV Camera. No fuss, no muss. So the connector isn't "gold". So what? It does not affect the quality of the data for typically non-critical home applications.
For the price, even with shipping, you can't go wrong!
Get more than one so you always have one near to where it's needed.

Ok, I don't know what the first reviewer was talking about (the guy who said it didn't work) because I just got mines and it works perfectly, I had two camcorders; sony and canon, and it still works with both. I already captured footage and made a movie with this firewire. So, yes. It's work it, it was very cheap and I give it a 5/5.
I was worried to get this because of the low ratings and was about to get a expensive one, but I didnt and I'm glad I got this, it is very cheap, reliable, and fast shipping.

At first I was skeptical since I also own a Sony Digital Camcorder, however when I received it, I had no problems connecting it to my Sony Camcorder and as a bonus it also works with my digital camera which uses both USB or firewire. Firewaire is much faster, so if you have that option, this type of cable will save you minutes off your precious time.

My firewire cable was too short. What to do? Order from a company I never heard of and hope for the best. Did Parts Express come through? They were one of the fastest companies in terms of delivery turnaround that I have encountered in many years of ordering virtually everything on line. The firewire cable works great, absolutely fills the bill. If you need a firewire cable, BUY IT NOW!! (This is one of the best deals I've seen in quite some time.) And buy it from Parts Express. They're on my GO TO list from now on.

Not worth it!.......2007-09-06
WOW! What an experience. I received the item DOA. In looking at other posts, I decided to let it charge up plugged in over a 72 hour period. No dice, it still didn't work. Called Ritz for an RMA to send it back, waited 2 weeks and still no RMA label. Called them again and finally got an RMA to send the unit back for replacement. Just called today and they won't be replacing it, they will be refunding it! That would have been nice to know 2 weeks ago when I sent it back. I won't be buying anything from Ritz anymore.
Battery was DOA.......2007-08-10
I charged the unit overnight as indicated in the manual. After charging I ran the self-test and instantly got a "Replace Battery" indicator. The unit functioned (other than battery back-up). Belkin is sending a replacement, however, I am stuck paying the shipping on the defective unit.
What a great day and age we live in where I can purchase a defective product and I have to pay to send it back...
Nice looking unit at a great price.......2007-08-07
I was worried that running my 1000w Onkyo home theater system would be too much for this unit since it's only rated at 640w. I have an Optoma HD70 projector, the Onkyo 1000w receiver, a DirecTV unit, and a Toshiba DVD player all plugged into it. The meter reaches 60% capacity when the projector lamp is on high and the receiver is turned way up, so the Belkin UPS should run most home theater setups without any problems.
As some of the other reviewers stated, I noticed a slight hum when this unit is plugged in. It's not too loud for me, but it's there. The unit looks very nice. The LED display is a little bright and would be nice if there was a way to lower the light level. The cabinet is very well built and this unit is really heavy. Needs to go on the lower shelf of your cabinet for sure. Comes with extra cables and is packaged very nice. A great value and I will be buying another one for downstairs soon.
Dissapointing Experience.......2007-07-09
The unit arrived DOA, power button non responsive, no power to the battery backup outlets at all, despite 8 hours of charging, and a "bad-battery" warning light on the unit. Even if I return it for a refund, I'm still out shipping on this very heavy box. Will not purchase Belkin or from Ritz Camera again.
Wonderful value with all the bells & whistles; the real deal!.......2007-06-28
As usual I looked everywhere for-and-at this unit, and when I found it on Amazon with Free Shipping (this is a heavy unit) I had to go for it. My main concern was: is this the unit with Ethernet protection? The specs say "yes" but the Customer Image of the rear panel doesn't show it. That pic is WRONG; the unit has RJ45 IN/OUT and the audio alarm rocker on it--it's indeed the latest model.
The total package is large, & heavy at 42lbs so a concern is always "howzit gonna survive shipping" and I was pleased to see it was TRIPLE-BOXED! Actually, an outer box with airbags, then the Belkin shipping box and finally the Retail packaging with the plastic handle & pretty pictures. Still, when I got it apart there were a few tiny scratches on the unit--a very heavy bag with rackmount ears in it had gotten unstuck from the cardboard and was flopping-around in the innermost box with the unit. But the pretty faceplate is covered with a heavy plastic protector so no worries there.
Like the other reviewer, I noticed the 60-cycle hum immediately when I plugged it in--my home theater is very quiet when everything's powered down. I don't expect the hum to be a problem when the TV is on, and my Belkin is 12 feet away at the front of the room in the TV stand, but I'm not sure I'd tolerate it very well if I were only listening to music (but I don't ever do that so it's not a concern for me) or if it were in my other equipment rack that's right behind my viewing position.
The battery was completely drained, and it needed an overnighter to charge-up to full capacity--testing reveals it hums quite a LOT when on battery power, but again this is not a concern for me--I don't want battery power to be able to keep watching; I want it to be able to shut-down my Rear Projection TV so the fan will keep running and cool the lamp first. I also wanted it for my DVR which has a spinning hard drive that needs protection.
Overall I am very pleased, and note the WAF on this is excellent (mine thought it was "pretty"!). A good deal indeed!
