Feeding problem.......2006-11-14

I have had the same problem with the toner but my toner lasted from Dec 27/04 until April 6/06.
I replaced the toner and then I was back in business even though there was ink in the cartridge.
I have been printing a lot of business cards of late and after doing about 50 through the front slot, the regular feed no longer works. I have no idea what is going on with this. The warning light comes on, I press the button and it does one more. It keeps printing one at a time. Not the fastest way to print 20 pages.

this has been a great printer. if i bought toner from brother i would complain too. we order from yourcartridge.com somewhere in calif. and get toner cheap. i didn't know we had to replace a DRUM. who'da thunk it? they have those too! having this great supplier for toner and the drum makes it a really great buy because the printer itself just keeps on putting out without complaint. when i find another one, i'm buying it that day without hesitation.

I bought this printer about a year ago after becoming fed up with inkjet printers. In particular, I was tired of the low and irregular print quality, frequent need to replace inkjet cartridges, paper jams, and the fact that inkjet printers do not produce water proof output! I am a student in Seattle and after getting to school several times to discover that my papers had been streaked by rain this last feature of inkjets became a major annoyance! My brother printer has solved all of these woes. It is fast, quiet, the printing is waterproof, and I have yet to need to replace the toner. I print only a moderate amount, on average perhaps 50 pages per week, but have gone over a year without replacing the toner and have not had a single page (not one!) which printed in a suboptimal fashion. The print resolution is far superior to what I was getting with an inkjet and has not varied one iota over the entire year that I have been using this printer. I have also not had a single paper jam.

When I bought this printer I was a bit concerned about the power drain issue other reviewers had mentioned. However, I installed the printer in the basement of a house built in 1912 (can you say questionable wiring?) and never had a problem. I also can't comment on brother customer service as from installation through the full first year of usage I have never had a problem necessitating any contact with them. Maybe I have just been lucky, but after a full year I feel quite confident about this product.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is seeking higher quality printing on a budget!

Be prepared to spend wads of money on toner..........2005-04-12

I won't bother repeating everything reviewer B. Cline said below; I'm having exactly the same experience with this thing eating toner. I didn't buy mine from Amazon, but I came here to see if anyone else was having the same problem and to warn people off this printer. I bought mine in Canada in July 2004. I was surprised when the printer ran out of toner before Christmas. I decided to buy a high-yield cartridge (which costs $117 CDN!) hoping that would last me a good long time. No such luck -- the thing ran out before the first week of April. And now it wants another one! Prior to this I had an excellent HP printer that I bought in 1996, and which worked well for years until some impossible-to-resolve software conflict with Windows XP Pro reared its ugly head. I would still be using that printer otherwise. And I had to change the HP toner cartridge maybe once every 12-14 months. My printing needs and demands have not changed. This Brother printer eats toner, plain and simple. I've been waiting on hold with Brother's tech service department for twenty minutes now, but I don't expect to get any help or satisfaction there. After that, I'll be addressing the problem with the help of any consumer advocacy journalists and organizations whose assistance I can enlist.

Don't buy this. If you're made of so much money that the cost of toner cartridges is irrelevant to you, then just buy another printer.

A good printer for home use.......2004-12-22

I bought this printer two months ago and it is doing a good job. I recommend this product to anyone who is tired of "keeping replacing the inkjet cartridges" and want a satisfying quality printer.

Keeps dropping the connection.......2004-06-17

When I first bought this XJack card, I thought that it was a great idea; I could collapse it so that I wouldn't have to eject the card when putting my laptop away. However, I have used it in several different environments with several different APs and it will drop the connection every once and awhile.

Right now I'm sitting about 80 feet away from the access point and have the speed turned down to 1Mbps and it still drops the connection every couple of minutes. The signal strength seems to very a lot from Very Low to Good when the laptop is just sitting stationary.

Anyways, I hope this helps you make a smarter purchase.

When I first find this model on cnet, I decided immediately that this is what I am looking for! the only reason is its Xjack Antenna. I don't care much about how fast a pc card would work, I care about the convienence. My laptop is ibm x series, I don't like(actually hate)the design of a big head antenna outside my laptop body. It's so clumsy and ugly!
Now I really love this xjack antenna, it work well, very convenient to use and looks just like integrated in my laptop. the max download speed I got so far is 300k bytes/sec, not best but fast enough for me.

Excellent range.......2003-09-22

I was able to get a strong signal in every corner of my house and out in the backyard. That's about a 120-ft radius. After I moved into a college dorm last week, the card could pick up strong signal from my Netgear MR814 router all the way down the 150' hallway, thru all the wooden doors and cement walls. In my room I could even push the x-jack in and still pick up a signal. The only thing that stops the signal from reaching the social lounge was a thick steel fire exit.

One of the best PC cards for wireless connectivity.......2003-07-18

The XJack is a great product for those of us with laptops that did not come with built in wireless LAN capability.

The antenna can be pushed in and tucked away without having to remove the PC card from the laptop.

When the antenna is pushed in, you CAN still get connected to a wireless LAN as long as you are less than 3-5 feet away from the wireless router.

Once you are more than 5 feet away from the wireless router, you will have to pull out the antenna to get connected.

The reception is much better than the Linksys card I used earlier.

I wish I had bought the XJack first.

In my opinion, this is the best wirless LAN PC card out there in the market since the card is in a way "integrated" into the machine instead of sticking out all the time.

Performance, design, and functionality are all excellent.

Ultra slow ripping speed by design.......2006-12-03

This cdrom's driver intentionally slows down ripping speeds. If you are wishing to put your legally owned music on to an mp3 player you should avoid this product. The driver description on the asus website will tell you that the speed of the cdrom is LIMITED. My first 8-10 tracks will rip at around 32x and then the cdrom will go to 1-3x for the rest of the tracks. Even with updating the firmware, this 'govenor' is in place. Why asus doesn't want you to rip mp3s could be because they want you to buy their duplicators that are hundreds of dollars in price. I'm scrapping this drive for one that will let me make mp3s at a modern speed (1-3x is ancient).
