AOSS stands for AirStation OneTouch Secure System. It literally secures your system with the touch of a button (optional AOSS router required). 125 High Speed Mode boosts transfer rates to levels that are equivalent to 802.11g networks running at 125Mbps!!
Amazon.com Product Description
The AirStation WLI2-PCI-G54S 125 High Speed Mode Wireless Desktop PCI Adapter offers a fast and flexible wireless solution for your desktop PC. With Buffalo's exclusive AirStation One-Touch Secure System (AOSS), creating a secure wireless connection is now hassle-free. The low profile design of the wireless PCI adapter can accommodate desktops with either full size or low profile PCI slots. The 125 High Speed Mode Wireless Desktop PCI Adapter adheres to the IEEE 802.11g standard and is interoperable with any 802.11b device. Using the included antenna connector, the detachable antenna can be replaced with a 2.4 GHz antenna for flexible placement or extended range.
When operating in High Speed Mode, this AirStation achieves an actual throughput of up to 34.1 Mbps, which is the equivalent throughput of a system following 802.11g protocol and operating at a signaling rate of 125Mbps.
What Is AOSS? Setting up a secure wireless network can be too complicated, involving many tedious steps and requiring a certain level of expertise to complete. BuffaloÕs AirStation OneTouch Secure System (AOSS) allows you to create a hi-speed secure wireless connection with a push of a button and a click of the mouse. AOSS automatically detects and configures other AOSS enabled wireless devices and clients and seamlessly creates secure connections. As you add additional devices, security is negotiated at the highest level possible for all devices on the network. Say, for example, that you have one AOSS client that supports both WEP and WPA level encryption, while another client that supports only WEP. The AirStation automatically adjusts the security level to one that both clients will support.
What's in the Box
This package contains the AirStation 125 High Speed Mode Wireless PCI Card, low-profile bracket, antenna exchange adapter, CD-ROM with drivers and manual, and printed Quick Setup Guide. It's backed by 24/7 toll-free tech support and a 2-year warranty.
Tech Talk
- AES: The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is the U.S. government's next-generation cryptography algorithm, phasing out the older DES format.
- TKIP: The next generation of WEP, the Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP, pronounced tee-kip) provides per-packet key mixing, a message integrity check and a re-keying mechanism to secure 802.11 wireless LANs.
- WEP: A data encryption method used to protect transmission between 802.11 clients and access points, the Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) standard is now considered insufficient, with WPA encryption a more secure choice.
- WPA: Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) improves the security of 802.11 networks, using 802.1x and EAP to restrict network access and its own encryption (TKIP) to secure data during transmission.

Over adveristised.......2007-08-14
My opinion is just regular wireless card, nothing fancy, no better transfer 54 mbit max and the range is not extraordinary.
Good Card.......2007-08-13
This is the first time I set up a wireless desktop in my home. I had a lot of trouble configuring it until I set it to DHCP. Not a failure on the product, just user error. Works great and as advertised. Signal reception is not as strong as I expected but no drops have been experienced. I am using with LinkSys Wireless Access Point.
EXCELLENT TECH SUPPORT.......2007-07-29
Buffalo Technology WLI2PCIG54S 125 High Speed Mode Wireless Desktop Pci Adaptet With AOSSWOULD NOT HAVE CALLED BUFFALO'S TECH SUPPORT BUT I HAD A VERY ODD PROBLEM. THE INSTALLATION WAS VERY STRAIGHT UP AND EASY BUT FOR SOME REASON IT WOULDN'T ALLOW ME TO GO ON THE INTERNET. IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE TRIAL NORTON FIREWALL THAT HAD EXPIRED WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM THE WHOLE TIME. TECH SUPPORT SPOKE PERFECT ENGLISH, WAS VERY PATIENT AND HAD ME UP AND RUNNING IN NO TIME.VERY FAST CARD.I HAVE WINDOWS XP AND A WESTELL VERSALINK MODEL327 ROUTER FROM HAWAIIAN TELCOM,WHICH IS THE SAME AS VERIZON. I HOPE THIS HELPS.
Good deal for the price.......2007-07-17
I bought two of these adapters: one for each of my PCs. They are everything they say they are in the company promotional material and I have had no problems with them. You ought to read the promo material carefully before buying to be sure you're getting what you want, and read the directions once you get it. I'm using them with a non-Buffalo router (Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router) and they work great. I recommend this adapter to anyone intending to create a wireless network within the home.
You Get What You Pay For.......2007-07-05
I have it connected to a G network and it works just as fast as any other device I have. It's very stable; haven't seen it lose the wireless signal yet. The included software is easy to install and convenient if you ever have to switch between two or more wireless networks. It even ran with IE 5 installed, which the system requirements said it couldn't work with. Go figure.
Overall, the card works great. It is a bit on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for.

Very impressed!!.......2007-07-04
May be cheap but its quality is first rate.Buy this if you own 64 bit XP.Really fast,I love mine..
Functional, Reliable, Inexpensive.......2007-05-22
The sturdy, extended antenna is a big plus. I do wish the extension was longer though. It's only about 18in. It does make a difference where I place it. Books seem to be more disruptive than walls.
I am using this on my HTPC (which sits on a bookshelf) with the wireless router about 50 ft away through 2 walls. I'm always getting at least normal "yellow" strength. Mostly "green" though.
I have XP Pro 64. WPA was fairly easy to setup and the supplied software is pretty intuitive.
If you're having problems setting up security though, don't expect much help from the book.
Overall a great, inexpensive product. For the price, it could have gotten 5 stars, but I'm picky.
Great Value.......2007-05-14
You can't beat this card for the price. Similar netgear and US Robotics products locked up my computer on a daily basis and they cost more than this one. This card works as advertised at half the cost of the big name brands and it supports all of the latest network security technology.

Avoid Netgear products.......2007-09-14
I bought this item and spent days trying to get it to work with Vista. My pc has over 3 megs of RAM in it and from what I've gathered this product will not work with any VISTA PCs that have 2 or more megs of RAM in them. Avoid the headache. I am going to try Buffalo Technology's product.
Not compatible with AMD processors.......2007-06-07
Hi,
I just got off the phone to Netgear tech support.
They informed me that the wireless card was slowing my PC down and dropping out because...
It doesn't work with some AMD processors!!!!
The tech guy told me to give the card back to the shop and buy something made by another manufacturer!
I guess this explains why some people on amazon didn't have problems, while others have been tearing their hair out.
What annoys me about this is that Netgear do not state that this product is only compatible with Intel processors anywhere on their website. I guess that leaving angry customers to figure it out for themselves is what they consider to be a professional way of doing business.
I won't be doing business with Netgear ever again. There are plenty of other companies out there with a better attitude to sales.
When googling "AMD Netgear problems" it turns out that the WPN311 isn't the only card with problems.

JUNK.....DO NOT BUY.......2007-02-20
This adapter did nothing but make my windows xp system run like crap. BSOD, registry problems, computer froze repeatedly. And yes I did install the drivers correctly. Once this card was installed it acted virus like. I couldn't even load any google sites, though every other site was fine. Once the card was removed and replaced with a simular product from another manufacturer my computer ran fine. DO NOT BUY>>>PIECE OF CRAP.
WPN 311 - Beware!!!.......2006-10-06
I'd give it zero stars if I could.
This card will definitelly crash to a blue screen intermittently. Windows XP doesn't like this card at all.
The 'fix' from Netgear trashed my registry. The hardware caused a total trashing of my primary hard drive (MBR), probably due to poor circut design.
This has happened not once, but TWICE on two different computers!
Buying this card is asking for major trouble and paying for the privilege.
I would recommend running CAT 5 cable instead.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS POS!
Great PCI Adapter.......2006-07-05
I purchased Netgear's RangeMax Wireless Router (WPN824) and two RangeMax Wireless PCI Adapters (WPN311). After reading the reviews here, I knew to install the software first and then the hardware. It worked without a hitch! I've never setup a wireless network before, but I had this one up and running in minutes.
My furthest PC from the router, is about 150' away, on another floor in the basement. My connection to the router is always between 95% to 100%. Not a single problem in the month I've been using it.
Hope this helps.

Vista Incompatible.......2007-05-16
You must first install the software, then shut down, then install card, then power up and configure. Unfortunately, you cannot install the software if you are running any version of Vista. D-Link tech support apologizes for this known issue and suggests downloading their Vista driver Beta which they describe as 'unstable.' Huh?
This one finally worked.......2007-02-06
I have several Linksys wireless adapters, usb, pci, etc that I could never configure with a Linksys wireless cable modem/router. This one worked fine. Go figure. I had to reinstall once when it stopped working by (1) removing software, (2) removing the card, (3) reinstalling software, (4) reinstalling the card. Installing software 1st seems to be an important step.
very happy. works with linux........2007-01-12
yes, it works with the linux madwifi (atheros: ath_pci) driver. although w/ FC6 is a real pain to configure....eg. i had it working properly w/Network Manager and suddenly, not working again. at any rate it's linux approved! now go forth and b mobile. :-)
Great Connection...Difficult Setup.......2007-01-06
Overall, I have a great connection that has not failed in the 4 months I've owned it. The only drawback I had with this is that the install instructions were insufficient and I had to wind up calling customer service. Although I thought this was a pain, they got it to work properly and I have not been dissappinted. I highly recommend getting this product.
Avoid this junk.......2006-12-04
Now I see why this thing was only $20 retail. Its a piece of junk. It takes forever to connect to a router that is only 10 feet away. The highest download speed I achieved was 53 Kb/s and I am on a 6 Mb/s network. The latest drivers at the D-Link site are 2 years old. Now I see why there was a big stack of them at the retail store. They are trying to dump all the obselete junk on the consumers. I took it back to exchange for a Linksys

Day 2, still cant connect to network........2007-07-21
This card is well constructed and installed effortlessly. Unfortunately, the "installation" disc it came with only includes an older version of Acrobat 4.0 and a Quick Start Guide/User Manual. There is no software or wizard to help you with setup.
The manual prompts you to type in an IP address to your browser address bar. OK, so I did that...now what??? The options I'm told I'd be presented with are not there, and I tried IE and Firefox on a clean install of XP Pro. I'm anxious to see what this lan card can do cause the old 802b adapter I had in the computer only gets a "good/very low" signal on my network, where this Gigabyte board shows an "excellent" signal, but I still can't connect. I'll keep after it, but I'm an experienced hardware guy and installation should not be this difficult.
Product Description
Bring your desktop computer up to speed with an ultra-fast 802.11g wireless connection. Plug this adapter into a standard PC card slot, and join any 802.11b or 802.11g wireless network in your home or small office for fast file swapping, printer sharing, and multiplayer gaming.

Who wants a peice of Microsoft History?.......2007-06-28
Just having this card in my machine get's rid of the bad Juju and promotes healthy microsoft edicate. I hope Microsoft makes a note book and workstation since there hardware is what works with microsoft software. Thanks again. Hope to see more microsoft in my machine. You know what? I don't even care if something comes out with a faster connection. I would not sell my card right now, and I don't think it would be fare to look at anything faster, I would probably mess up my brain. Besides, I don't remeber asking for anything faster when I first had a computer, and when the speed addicts find my machine again I know it will get stolen. But there's always the Microsoft lawsuits that come after that. I hope this set's everything straight.
Simple Success!.......2006-05-23
I've been using 2 MN-730s with a MN-700 base station for several years with NO problems or quirks whatsoever. With the limited availability of these Microsoft hardware items lately, I've been forced to install other wireless cards (Belkin, Linksys, etc..) in the new PCs we've purchased. Without exception, the Microsoft wireless products are far easier to use and much more reliable in our experience, to any of the other products.
Covers the distance I need.......2005-02-16
When searching for a adapter I had trouble finding reviews that talked about how they performed over a extended distance, this one is working great so far, I'm using the mn730 with a linksys wireless G router that is about 350 feet away in a seperate house and although it indicates my signal strength is very low most of the time, I have no problems with the connection (with no additional antennas), i took a speed test and it reports I have about 800k downstream bandwidth, plenty enough for me. installation is simple, just make sure to watch out for static electricity.
Great Deal!!.......2004-12-22
Microsoft is getting out of the network hardware market, you'll find great deals on this stuff. I have 3 of these (got for $15 each), using them on Windows ME and XP (SP2) without any problems. They work with my Netgear WGR614v4 router and I have SBC Yahoo DSL. It's true that XP won't find/load a driver for card, but just load up MSBN from the CD or downloaded from MS site, then delete MSBN, you don't need it with XP. My kids are surfing and IMing all day long, no loss connections, no drop outs, no problems, extremely stable product.

An old and neglected product.......2003-01-29
I have used this card (PCI adapter and PCMIA card) with win 98 and had no real problems except for a weak reception, but it thought that had something to do with the fact that its an old pc
which probably causes a lot of electromagnetic interference.
Changing to a newer Pc, i decided to use win XP. The drivers for
XP, do not really work properly. You can't boot up the system.
Ok so we start again, with win2000 this time. Everything seemed to work fine. Allthough uninstalling previous installation of the
drivers is near impossible. Ýour have to mess around in the registry (don't like that). Nervertheless it seemed to work, then I noticed that the connection was interupted (eventhough it says it has a strong signal) after about 5 min.. After a reboot of the PC or the gateway it worked again. Funny so i try to reinstall the drivers and to my horror now windows wont boot up (as xp did) with the cards in the pc.
This is not good enough.... If i can make decent drivers for win98 then I could do the same for 2000 or XP right.
I bought them despite poor reviews..........2002-02-27
I bought a pair of DWL-500 and an SMC7004AWBR router over the weekend. I put DWL-500 on both Windows ME and XP with little difficulties. I did have fairly loaded systems so it took me a while to free an IRQ on the system running XP. After that, it was only a matter of installing drivers, PCI card, and then it's all done. Installation on ME was only a series of reboots due to the architecture of ME. Both systems perform well so far; I haven't experienced any reset or interruptions. I am pretty satisfied with
IRQ Problems.......2002-02-20
I bought the D-Link DWL-500 and tried to install in my new Dell Dimension 4400 running XP. Initial instalation went okay but subsequently was unable to re-boot...got blue screen of death specifying IRQ conflict with card in. If I removed card, computer would boot, but would freeze if I pushed the card in. Called D-Link support who told me to call motherboard manufacturer. Tried removing other cards (modem, sound card) to see if I could get DWL card to work, hoping then to reinstall others, but no luck. De-installed all software/hardware. Still get a system error message on re-boot! I have seen others say they used DWL with XP but I haven't been able to.
Does not work with NT 4.0.......2002-01-05
I tried this product with NT 4.0 and it does not work. It claims to have conflicting interuppts when there are none.
No Signal.......2001-10-29
I just purchaced this product yesterday. Installation went well(both with the DWL-500 and DWl-120). I have yet to get a signal through even though i have been trying for over a day now. This might not be the best product for the novice user unless you are buying the access point with it.
