Designate a CardScan File as an Outlook Address book

Just horrible experience.......2007-06-08

Got a brand new device and after scanning about 15 cards, it stopped working. The scanner just failed. Called tech support and they agreed that the device malfunctioned and I should call customer service to get it replaced.

This is where the misery really starts. I have held for someone to come on the customer service line for 20 minutes each time but no one comes to the phone. Finally, I left a message and haven't heard back from them yet. Just horrible, I wouldn't buy CardScan products.

This nice little device has allowed me to get rid of the 4" high stack of business cards that I've been holding on to. Easy to use, and the software has synched well with Outlook. I only give it 4 instead of 5 stars because many cards need to be corrected after scanning, although that is always due to graphics on the cards that make it difficult for CardScan to read all of the information. It's probably doing the best that can be done with the technology, but I'd need perfection to give it 5 stars. Definitely worth the money.

This is very easy to use and worked great with Outlook. I used it to clean up duplicates in Outlook! Good hardware too.

Good for about 30 cards..........2007-03-30

So after scanning my first batch of cards (which it worked great for), the scanner simply stopped working correctly. It couldn't be recalibrated and won't read any more cards. I called tech support only to learn that this is a known problem, there is no fix available and that it's likely due to their outsourcing of the manufacturing of this product. I'm returning the one I got and I'd strongly recommend against getting one until the quality issues are resolved.

Excellent.......2007-09-22

I have been using for over 6-8 months, and absolutely love it. No matter how i insert the card, it grabs the information. Some cards are difficult to read..however such cards are essentially few and far between..these are mostly non-traditional and extremely silly "business" cards.

Overall good compatibility...i export the cards to outlook and then to my phone...Has helped me get rid of my stack of 1000+ visiting cards, and make them more manageable...Highly recommended!

Excellent Product - Easy to Use.......2007-09-17

The CardScan is an excellent product. Very easy to set up and use. If you get a lot of business cards in your profession, and you want to have a very functional and organized contact management system - this is it. Once you scan the card, you can quickly and easily click on the contact and send them and email, or visit their website - all this is done automatically and flawlessly with CardScans OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. It may seem pricy at around $250, but it's well worth it.

Good product; software installation has problems.......2007-08-03

Overall, I really like the product. However, I have been on the phone with customer service twice about how it interacts with my palm software (trouble getting the two to synchronize) and had to reinstall the software a couple of times due to glitches which caused the software not to recognize the scanner. My computer also froze shortly after the installation and I have no idea if it was related to the software. After many hours at the repair shop the computer and cardscan seem to be working and when they are I am pleased but I am suspicious that the V. 8 software was not fully tested and that my issues are a result of a premature release. Customer service was patient, available and helpful.

Works Brilliantly!.......2007-07-18

My boss plopped this machine on my desk last week. He has boxes and boxes of business cards. It has worked amazingly. Really fast scanning (all color). The software picks up everything- sometimes it mis-categorizes data, but the software allows you to drag and drop, and right click copy and paste, so it is really quick to move data around. 85% of cards are perfect the first time. Highly recommend.

Frequent Errors.......2007-07-13

I just installed the Card Scan Executive for my division and am finding discrepencies between the card and the scan image about 30% of the time. As a result, it is necessary to check each scan for errors, which was an unpleasant surprise. Although it is still faster than typing all of the information in yourself, the system is certainly not flawless.

Product installs easy and is easy to use. Placed 3 of these at front desk of medical facilities, scanning dozens of cards daily. Two have died after about 12-14 months service. Tried one a trade show and got about 80% of info into correct fields, so it does save some typing.

Doesn't print pages as advertised........2004-10-20

The Cardscan Executive advertises that it will print in all the typical planner formats, Daytimer, Dayrunner, Franklin etc. It doesn't do what it says. The right edge of the page is cut off losing important information like half a phone number or half an email address. Technical Support was no help, they said "it's a defect with the program". None of the advertised formats on the pull down menu worked, or using the edit format feature. Users cannot change the width of the fields. Other than that it's a pretty cool product.

Great easy to use product.......2004-04-21

To the person who says it doesnt scan the graphics - it does.
It can store the image from both sides of the card and the english text from one side.
I find it easy to use and very useful. Mostly i dont bother to verify the cards as there is almost always enough data stored correctly.

Why only 4 stars

I would like easier ways to select which contacts to transfer into other programs (I scan everything since its so easy but i dont need a lot of the data on a daily basis so i dont want to transfer everything) and easier ways to split and merge databases by batch selection. It has these facilities but its too hard !

As someone who lives and travels in Asia many of my cards have the local language details on the back. You can scan the back you cant print it. Give a printed copy to a cab driver is an easy way to get to where i want to go when i cant speak the language.

Finally the copy and paste is fiddly.

But i use it every day and i have all my cards going back 7 years accessible by a simple text search.

Do you have stacks of business cards sitting in boxes are wrapped up in rubber bands? Do you come back from a trade show or meeting with a pocket full of cards and never do anything with them? If so the Corex Cardscan is for you.

I've used it for over 6 months and love it. Installation was easy - follow the instructions - install software - plug in the USB cable. The scanner is very fast and very accurate. I normally don't have to make any corrections to the scanning results. Cards with very unusual fonts or layouts sometimes need correction. The included software works flawlessly with ACT! or outlook. Another cool feature is the link to the Cardscan.net site. This allows you to back-up/store and access your business card file on online. It is also very easy to use. Again I have found this to be a lifesaver for handling business cards and with many months of use I have had no problems.

Scans great, but problem with multiple users on XP.......2004-01-02

The scanner works great with execellent accuracy.
Unfortunately the software does not work under XP for users that do not have administrator privileges. Corex claims that this is not a "bug" but rather you must be a "power user" (aka administrator) to use this product. After two fruitless hours of experimentation with changing access rights to the program file directories, I relented and elevated my user's level to administrator. After that the cards scan fine.

Great Product.......2001-11-10

If you collect business cards, then this is a cost effective way to get the data into your ACT!, Outlook or a number of other databases. You'll save money and have more accurate data.

The software parsing works unbelievably well. In lay terms parsing means that the software knows what is a company name and what is an email address and puts them into the right place, unless the font is highly graphical. The older models couldn't read white type on dark cards, but this one can. Also, once you receive it and have the box sitting on your desk, it seems intimidating to install, but it only takes about 1/2 hour to install so that the data goes automatically into ACT!.

I test alot of software/hardware products but most of them I return. The card scanner and the palm pilot are my two staples. This product I not only use but demo. It's very impressive. And years later clients thank me for having recommended it.
