I bought this for my kid for Christmas 2 yrs ago. It was all he wanted (he was only 10). He promised to take good care of it - which he did. It's been fine until recently. It froze a couple of times, but I learned to reset (read: re-boot) the iPod, and it was fine. But a few weeks ago, he got the folder icon with the ! that's been mentioned by others. I took it to the Apple Store Genius Bar, where the resident genius informed me of 2 kinds of hard drives: those that have failed and those that will fail. I had "the former". He offered to "dispose of it properly" for me so I didn't polute the local water supply with the horrible chemicals in the battery. We exchanged some "not so" pleasantries and I took the iPod home to check the web to see what my options were. I found a site that explained how to replace the drive for about $100. But on the thread, someone commented that they "smacked it" and this fixed it. Since it was out of warranty, and the drive was gonna come out anyway, I gave it a try. My method was to hold the iPod in my left hand and deliver a substantial blow from the side with my right hand. The second blow caused the thing to start properly. This method may work by holding with the right hand and striking with the left - but I can't say for sure :-). Anyway, I cannot believe that Apple will not fix these things, or offer you this advice. And when I realize that they charged me $350 for a $70 harddrive, I get even more pissed... But, my kid loves his U2 iPod!

This iPod will randomly freeze. I have been through 3 in a year. It works fine until it decides it wants to shut down. Then the sad iPod icon comes up and you cant restore or reset it. so you have to send it in to apple and wait a week to get it back. Unless your warranty is up like mine was. Now they want to charge me $250 to ship my ipod out and repair it because the warranty expired a month ago. i could buy a new 40GB COLOR VIDEO IPOD for $200 instead of the 20GB BLACK/WHITE PLAIN U2 IPOD saving $50. Its just insane. something is wrong with this models hard drive. Too many other people have had this same problem for it to be a coincidence! so do yourself a favor: Buy a plain one; it will save you so many headaches.

The black ads a great touch and the red click wheel is wonderful. Most people say that they don't want the U2 iPod because of the extra money but it is worth every pennie! But Scratches do show up pretty good but windex does the the job.

My U2 iPod is everything I expected!! Its beautiful black and red front and signatured back makes it unique and unlike everyone else's iPod. The color display is a nice touch and worth the extra money. With it came a poster that has 12 band pics and message from Bono on the back. Also I am planning on using the coupon for $50 off the Complete U2 digital set from iTunes very soon. All in all, I am very happy with this product!!

This is a good design for a couple of reasons: the iPod stays inside the central sheathe, which has a vinyl screen and Click Wheel guard that works just fine. The bottom flap can close to protect the mini, but if it hangs open from the bottom, it doesnt interfere with your use of the controls like a top flap would. And yet the smaller top flap manages to cover the ipod's top quite adequately, providing holes just large enough for the Hold switch and headphone port. Theres no hole for the iPod Dock Connector, so if you want to use that, youll need to remove the iPod from the case.

Looked really sharp, and featured a matching faux suede interior that kept our iPod mini from being scratched inside. Stitching, overall look, and materials were all really good, and as with the other cases, a Kroo logo is subtly embossed on the cases bottom front corner - here, the right. The case is also protective. A two-sectioned top flap opens to let you insert your iPod mini inside, and the Soho ultimately covers every part of your mini except for the sides of its top corners and its Hold switch. To close the case, you tuck the flap into a fashionable leather ring on Sohos front, and thanks to the cardboard-reinforced interior material, the flap holds closed without a problem. That reinforcing material is used on each part of the Soho except the small panel that covers the iPod minis top, the front leather loop loop, and a rear leather belt loop.

Met all my expectations ý and then some.......2002-08-01

I struggled to make a final decision on a printer for my home office and finally decided on the Epson 980N. I couldn't be happier.
Since I have set up a networked environment at home, I really wanted a printer that had decent networking abilities. I soon discovered that I was pretty limited in terms of cost and color capabilities if I was intent on getting a printer with an Ethernet card. The Epson 980N satisfied all my requirements and has performed very, very well during the past seven months with lots of use - and I mean LOTS of use. I have printed everything from quick black-and-white text drafts to picture-perfect color 8x10s. My only complaint is that the original Epson consumables are quite expensive, and the two times that I have tried off-brand ink cartridges I have been deeply disapointed with the quality.
If you want a great network-capable inkjet printer that produces incredible photo-quality output as well as incredibly fast draft output, then the 980N is a solid choice. And, by the way, I primarily use Macintosh computers with this printer, but have easily printed from my Windows laptop as well as from OS 9 and OS X systems.

It took me a while to find the printer I was looking for, but this printer made it all worthwhile. I use it on my network extensively and it works with all my OS's flawlessly (Win98, WinNT4, Win2000 Pro, Win2000 Server), which is the reason I chose Epson over HP. The only cons to this printer are that it is a little noisy and the color cartridge gets clogged every once in a while...although the software helped me diagnose and fix the clogging problem with little effort. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this printer and would definitely choose it again if given the opportunity.

It really IS that good - though not quite that fast . . ........2001-03-15

I'd been looking for an affordable color printer for some time. It had to be Ethernet-capable, and almost certainly had to be an inkjet, since color lasers are way out of my price range. After briefly using an Epson 900N last year, I decided to look at Epson's newest networkable color inkjet. Though it was ordered before Halloween 2000, it didn't arrive until after Valentine's Day 2001 - but was it ever worth the wait! While it isn't as fast as the specs claim (what printer really is?), it is the fastest inkjet with decent output that I've ever used. The color quality, especially using the MacOS's ColorSync options with Epson's driver, rivals or even surpasses that of our Tek Phaser 550. The dreaded inket streaking effect, often seen on gradients, is minimal. The biggest surprise was ink usage - while the replacement cartridges are more expensive than other Epson supplies, the page-output per cartridge is much improved. Since I don't print full-bleed proofs very often, I can't say exactly how good the page-count-per-cartridge will be, but it's definitely better than the older 900N, or any other Epson that I've ever used. You can hook the Epson 980N up to a Mac, PC, or any computer with Ethernet connectivity, even SGIs or Unix boxes (it's IP-addressable. too) and you'll be well pleased with the results.
