Optics and Resolution
The PowerShot SD100 offers a 3.2-megapixel CCD sensor that produces images up to 2048 x 1536 pixels for photo-quality 8 x 10 inch prints or medium-quality 11 x 14 enlargements. Other resolution modes include 1600 x 1200, 1024 x 768, and 640 x 480. The 2x zoom lens has a focal length of 5.4-10.8mm (equivalent to 35-70mm in 35mm photography). Movie Mode

You can record for up to 30 seconds per clip at 640 x 480, or 3 minutes at the lower resolutions. Note that you cannot use the optical zoom when in movie mode. Printing
Canon has introduced a series of printers designed to work directly with its lineup of digital cameras. Using these printers, no computer is required--simply connect the camera to the printer and start printing. Printers include Canon's bubble jet direct printers i900D and i960, and card photo printer CP-200 and CP-300. Of course, photos from your camera can also be printed on any home computer system with an inkjet printer, sent off for online processing, or simply enjoyed on your computer screen.

Storage and Transfer
Images are stored on Secure Digital (SD) or MultiMedia (MMC) memory cards; a 16 MB SD card is included. When shooting in Large/Normal mode, you can store 30 images on the included memory card. Handy size, greater starter camera!.......2007-05-15

This was my first digital camera. It was perfect for the first year I had it - easily portable and navigable, decent battery life, movie and instant B+W options; it was the source of digital goodness. After the first year, when my concerns became focused on the quality of the photos I began to get increasingly disappointed. The zoom and flash limited the quality of photographs I was able to take. I kept getting blurry pictures, or the flash caused over-exposure or was too weak to make out anything in the distance. Forget about shots of buildings in twilight.
I upgraded to a Digital Rebel for my first trip to Costa Rica and have satisfied most of the needs I was not receiving with the Elph. Obviously, comparing the Digital Elph to a Rebel is like comparing a Volkswagon to a Porsche.
Despite the satisfying upgrade, when my Elph was destroyed in an airline mishap I replaced it right away. The Elph has become my purse camera, indispensable for recording the scene of a traffic incident for insurance or catching the idiosyncrasies of life when the hulking Rebel is at home. It's not perfect but it is my sturdy, reliable recording device on the fly and I'm glad I still have one around. Overall a fantastic beginners camera, although limited by it's small pixel size. Because pixels have gotten so much more advanced, this would be a great gift for a young, budding photographer. It can handle travel, drops, and being roughed up quite well.

Beware of the E18 error.......2006-11-22

I bought this camera in 2004, and it worked very well. I would agree with most of the other good reviews. However, all of a sudden the lense would not shut down and I kept getting an E18 error on screen. Apparently this is common on these types of Canon camera's (ie. the lense getting stuck), and will cost approx $150 - $250 to repair, which is more than the original cost of the camera. I did not drop it or mishandle it in any way, so it looks like a defect in the camera.

This camera is very nice. I will go down on the pro's and con's.

Pro's:

1. Very small. It is with ease that you can put this camera into your pocket, or even into your glove dept of your car (and just how many things can you put in a glove dept these days?!!) And the size really makes it easy for handling when taking pictures.

2. The digital rear view is very nice. You get a clear vivid view of what it is that you are taking a picture of. This is a fantastic feature, considering that many other camera's do not have a good view in the rear view... which sort of really goes against having the picture view in the rear of the camera in the first place! Bright and easy to see.

3. For a 3.2 mpixel camrea, these pictures are pretty good quality. I really like them, but would consider this a lower end camera... don't try to take shots of stuff far away. This camera is for use close up.. like under 5 feet in distance for any definition.

4. Easy to use downloading from camera. You can use the software they give you with this camera... or just skip it and use the windows XP software that automatically detects the camera, and loads the windows software that will work with your camera. This is really nice that Canon and Bill Gates talked to each other and they shared information on drivers and software. This does NOT alaways happen BTW. Kudo's for Canon.

Con's:

1. Battery life. The battery is horrendous. After six months, the battery rarely last over 15 - 20 minutes. This is pretty bad. I mean, this battery is easily the poorest quality of any battery in any device I have ever used. And Canon should be ashamed for issuing the darn battery with this type of quality. With Canon, you expect better quality.

2. Starter Camera. This camera is really not for use for anything other than really close pictures. Which is sorta what I said in the Pro section, and it is a pro for that reason.. but with the small zoom, I expected to get more than five feet or so for definition... perhaps I was over optimistic...

3. Outershell of camera. After a couple of months, the color of the case of the camera sorta rubbed off. It looks very dull, and old... I have had other cameras that are considerably older than this camera, but look a heck of a lot newer than this camera. What did they put on the outer shell of this camera? I do not know, but Canon should not use whatever it was again. My camera looks like it is 50 years old.

Overall: A very good starter camera. I would not get this again, but I would get it for someone who is just taking fun photos. Perhaps get it for a youngster, or someone who might not really care that they can't get super good pictures.

Much more than I expected........2005-08-04

I bought this camera to have something that I could use at parties or on trips to just point and shoot when I didn't feel like or have the time to use my 35mm SLR. But what I found out was it can do much more than that. Manual mode is easy and effective. See some of my photos in customer images.

A great pocket size travel camera. Fun to use when on vacation or out with friends. I like that the camera is metal and durable. Easy to use menu and option knob. Get a spare battery, it's common sense. Very limited zoom and annoying 2 second delay when you press the button. I wish the memory card wasn't in with the batteries under the slide plate. It isn't easy to pull out the battery or memory card (I use twissors).

Slow monitor, high price, small screen.......2007-08-22

all of you mind that i'm talking abot all of this with the high price in mind.

the response time is 14ms.... for a cheap 200 monitor ive seen it for around 5ms

contrast sucks, most good monitors have ATLEAST 500:1 contrast, for this price you do not want this contrast, lower contrast means worse picture quality.

the screen is tiny, who these days has a 17 inch screen,plus its not widescreen! If you like this brand acer theres like a 22 inch widescreen with better specs and even cheaper than this.

i personally have a samsung 22 inch widescreen with 2ms response and 1000:1 contrast (it says 3000:1 but its a different contrast measure)

this monitor was the beast deal ever, for only 30 bucks more than this low quality high priced monitor.

I was given this monitor at work to replace a Viewsonic CRT, and I have to say it's not as good.

My biggest problem is that it's too bright. I work in a dim environment, and when I turned the monitor down to brightness=0, my eyes still feel fatigue.

I also have been unable to adjust the gamma because I can't turn down the brightness enough.

Further, when you move your head from side to side, parts of the screen look more and less yellow. (this doesn't happen on other LCDs/laptops I've used).

Maybe on a budget this is great, but since I stare at the screen for 9 hours a day, and I'm probably hypercritical, this LCD is not the best choice.

When I finally break down and buy an LCD for myself, at home, I know I will have to test it in person.

Just can't find that much to complain about...........2005-12-13

I looked through literally hundreds of reviews and chose this one because: I didn't want to spend $400 or more for a monitor that had vibrant color and excellent clarity with a flat screen. Reviews I found elsewhere for this FDS were more optimistic.

Many of the monitors available today are made by companies I have never heard of. Years ago I owned an Acer computer that functioned just fine for a long time. I ordered this screen from Amazon via Tigerdirect.

The packaging was excellent - sturdy and constructed to take shipping shock very well. Installation took about 20 minutes. My hands are small - fitting the plug into the socket in a parallel position to the base wasn't hard for me. I do agree that part of the design is dumb (therefore 4 stars).

This screen is used on my computer with business software, general internet use and desktop publishing -- not for gaming. I've used it since May'05 and there are no dead pixels.

I am an experienced photographer so color and clarity are important. The only picture I've seen that is truly a dissapoint is one of a cave in Utah where there are many hues of red and yellow. For some reason the pixels in that picture distort into tiny blocks of color. In every other case the color and clarity have met my standards. I have a $400 dell display used for gaming on my other computer. I can't see any obvious difference in visual quality when using the same software on either computer for non-gaming purposes.

I myself am a computer Geek I purchased 2 of the ACER 1914b's and plugged them up to a NVIDA 256MB 5200 chaintech videocard for Photoshop work. They are great. They play games great with an average of 12-16ms access times on them. I am sorry my review doesn't actually go over the AL1714b. . . but the price they're offering for the 1714 is NUTS!!! Happy shopping!!

Junk, Just Junk........2005-06-09

I bought this player a month ago. As soon as I took it of the box and set it up, I found out that the tray does not close all the way to the end and I have to push it manualy to be totaly closed. Secound and worset thig was, I played 1 movie throu and after an hour I stoped the movie and I went to do something, when I got back and pressed the play button. The player didn't work and the play sign is still on the screen since then, It hanged up on me and nothing can be played thru this DVD player any more and the play sign is on all the time.

The gigantic, 32-inch PF3220 uses a Pure Flat picture tube, which not only looks cool compared to a conventional, bulbous screen, but also provides a high-quality, high-contrast picture owing to the screen's ability to reduce reflected ambient light. Three picture modes (normal, theater, memory) let you customize the set for different uses.

The PF3220 provides stereo audio from broadcast programming via Multi-channel Television Sound (MTS), which permits broadcasters to encode stereo audio within the video portion of TV programming signals. You can choose between two sets of rear AV inputs (one of which is S-video) and a set of side AV inputs for extra convenience when hooking up a camcorder, gaming console, or other portable device. A rear AV output lets you hook the set up with a surround receiver.

The set also features a trilingual onscreen display (English, Spanish, French), closed-caption display, V-Chip parental control, a sleep timer, channel recall, channel scan, and a universal remote control.

I guess I was lucky in that my Apex tv actually survived through a cross-country move and made it to about the year and a half mark before it started having problems. Now the tv constantly acts as if the Volume Up button is being pushed, so the volume is stuck at max all the time and the volume bar is constantly visible at the bottom of the screen. This makes it so that the tv is too loud to watch and the volume bar blocks everything in the bottom quarter of the screen. To top it off, repairs would cost more than I paid for the stupid thing!

I guess I was one of the "lucky" ones, because my TV actually lasted a little over a year before it died on me. To repair it would have cost more than this dog is worth. Moral of this sad story: NEVER BUY AN APEX!

Just turned off with a foul smell after 4 months. Thought we were getting a deal. Thankfully we bought from a reputable dealer that refunded every cent.

Apex Digital products often fail within the first year. They have horrible customer service, false advertising, and fail to honor their warranties. Please check www.labbb.gov (Better Business Bureau) and search for Apex Digital to see the F rating the better business bureau has given them. Saving 10-15 dollars is not worth the hassle they cause.
