Buy Another Alarm Clock.......2007-07-04

I bought this alarm clock after my last one went out and after just one night completely hated it. Don't let the box fool you. You cannot choose the track you want to wake up to. Turning off the alarm clock in the morning is hard the alarm clock itself is even difficult to set and make sure you have it right. The BIG button at the bottom isn't even what shuts off the alarm it's the snooze button the alarm off button is this super tiny button at the top left which is very hard to find the morning while you are still rubbing sleep from your eyes. Please spare yourself the pain and look at a different alarm clock.

It was pretty good ... until last night, when the screen went blank. The CD stopped playing, and I needed SOMETHING to listen to while reading under the covers! But still, it lasted longer than SOME PEOPLE said theirs did -- more than a year!

I bought this item for my 5yr old daughter's bedroom. I wanted a clock and simple cd player so she could listen to her music in her room. Yes, the display panel is very bright, however, she liked it for a night light. Yes, the sound quality is not the best, but she's five and didn't need high quality surround sound for her Ralph's World and Annie cd's. My problem is that after 4 months the thing just up and quit on me. The display panel continues to be very bright, however there are no LED numbers and none of the functions will work. I expected more from Philips.

The display is so incredibly bright, even on "dim", that it lights up the bedroom like a spotlight! I put a folded piece of paper over the clock the first night to tone down the light. There was no second night; I took it back to Best Buy and got a refund. Don't they test these things before sending them to market? Incredible.

Nice product and I really like the digital settings. The only draw back is the sound rebirverates from the speakers when the volume goes above 20.
Great radio/CD if it is just going to be placed next to your bed for wake up and go to sleep music. Not so good if you put it in your bathroom and want to hear the music over the shower.

The touch screen system is great. For old folks like us it's so much better than so many of the modern menu driven gadgets. The status of important functions displayed and controlled from the screen. Outstanding sound quality for such a small box.

Cool Idea, Confusing Interface.......2007-01-17

What a great concept! Touch screens are the perfect compliment to a multi-function alarm clock. We are very happy with this unit. I am a little confused by the inclusion of all the "extra" buttons. All of the functionality except for a snooze bar could have been integrated into the touch screen. The usability is reasonably intuitive even though the display is misleadingly complex. It's also a little big so if you don't have a lot of space on your night stand, you might consider something a little more compact.

This is a great buy for anyone at all. The sound is absolutely amazing! I could not believe that such a big sound was coming from such a small machine! The only downside for me, a technology lover, was the missing Audio Cable Input so that you can plug in your electronic device (such as an iPod or a CD Player) through its headphone jack. But still, this thing is amazing!

I was looking for a simple to operate CD clock alarm for my 84 year old mother who is technologically challenged. After reading how easy this was to operate, I ordered one and it appears to be true. I didn't give the product five stars because I don't know how it will hold up but it seems to a very simple to program alarm system with quick set up.

Worst clock I've ever owned.......2007-01-18

This clock has been nothing but trouble since day 1. The only good thing I can say about it is that the alarm works. It keeps horrible time (loses roughly 3 minutes a week!) and the speakers are horrible....any volume needed to comfortably hear is too much for them. Sorry, but half the reason for getting an alarm clock with a CD player is to be able to play what I want, but I don't want to have to listen to distortion. :(

Close but disappointing.......2004-10-12

Initially I was thrilled to find a clock radio with a CD player that would wake you gently; it starts at a very low volume and slowly gets louder and louder. I thought it would be perfect for days when either my husband or I needed to get up earlier than the other. I thought this would allow one of us to get up quietly while the other person slept. However, what I found is that after the music has started softly and you want to turn the alarm off, you need to push a buttom that emits a rather loud beep-thus waking the other person.

Overall this clock radio functions very well. I also like it's ease of use and sleek exterior. However, I was looking for something that could run on batteries in case of a loss of power. The description said "24-hour battery back up". I mistakenly assumed that this meant I could use this product with batteries. WRONG. The only function the batteries perform is saving the time and alarm settings. The alarm and radio do not function, and the time does not display with battery use. While I will keep the product, I would NOT have bought it if I had known that it could not run on batteries.

Unfortunate purchase. Worst radio I have ever owned........2003-01-02

The signal rejection is horrible. That is to say, I set it to my favorite NPR station and another station 11.5MHz higher booms over it. I did this experiment right next to my Sangean clock radio, and I also tried the (Great) GE 7-2887 Portable radio. The non-Philips units worked perfectly, so it wasn't some anomaly wth the ionosphere (unfortunately, they aren't water proof, and make no claims to be). So I opened the back up (where the battery compartment is) to have a look around. Although the batteries themselves were dry (there is separate seal for them) the screws that hold the radio together were rusted. I bought this unit in November and it's rusting--this in a product built for use in the shower... So, buy it if you want to hear multiple stations at once, and don't get it near water.

I bought the Philips Shower Radio from J&R Music.

Being a shower radio, I didn't really expect it to produce a really good sound. I was pleasantly surprised and disappointed with the audio quality. The sound is lound and audible even with the shower running. Unfortunately, the sound is also very hollow and it took about a week to get used to it.

The AM reception is excellent in the NYC/Jersey metro area.

I had a slight problem trying to house the antenna tail into the battery compartment and worried that water might leak in. To date, I have experienced no problems.

The major drawback of this product though is the power button. I don't get the sense that I'm actually pressing the button. One must rely on one's ear and not on sense.

A minor nusiance is that Philips does not publish the instruction manual online, forcing me to store the print instruction manual.

For the price this can't be beat!.......2002-01-07

We just moved into an older home which has few electrical outlets- especially in the bathroom. Morning showers were not the same without music, so I wanted to buy something that was water resistant (and inexpensive!). This product really was a great choice. For the size, the sound quality was really very good. The unit itself comes equipped with a pig-tail antennae, but I did not even need it. The radio is kind of a weird chunky shape, but that is not a problem. The control buttons are encased in plastic, so if you want to change a station with wet hands, no problem! What I found as an added bonus was the built in clock. ( I also found out my husband was right, I do take 30 minute showers!!). If you decide to go with this radio, you will not be disappointed! Battery life is really good also!

This is a great product to give as a gift for those people that have everything. It is a great way listen to the radio when taking a shower. Look at the price, its very reasonable so I have given a couple to those in my family which are hard to buy for. My mom loved it for Mother Days instead of flowers.

The rooster setting starts out very low volume and increases if you do not wake up and shut off. It sounds like you are on a farm. The lady saying "alarm on" or "alarm off" when you turn the alarm on or off is a great way knowing the setting without turning on a light. My 10 year old daughter loves this alarm clock.

Have had this clock for a total of three months. Has slowly
degraded over that period - first lost some of the LCD, then
the backlight, now the whole LCD is gone. Even when it was
working, the rooster didn't sound much like a rooster. I would
have gladly paid twice this for something that was good.

I like the styling, and the ease of setting the two alarms.

I dislike:

Poorly functioning radio tuner, with the dial numbers having little relation to the actual station numbers. Anyway, radio reception is intermittent, from fair to very poor.

LCD display backlight does not function in battery mode; how are you supposed to read the clock, if you can't see the numbers? Or, is this clock for folks who sleep days? Hmmm.

Only 5 minutes snoozing per hit on the snooze button, to a max of 25 minutes. I'm a slow starter, I need longer snooze intervals, and more total snooze time.

However, the little female voice in ze French accent which tells you "alarm on" is kinda handy for the technically challenged person.

I gave it to my 8-year-old niece, who uses it to tease her dog with the rooster alarm. NB: I think the dog hates it as much as I do.

DO NOT BUY THIS ALARM CLOCK.......2003-11-20

Here's why it's lousy:
1) It has a 5 minute snooze button (useless)

2) The alarm turns itself off after 25 min of snoozing. This will result in many days of oversleeping and being late to work/school.

3) The "rooster" wakeup sounds like a cat throwing up.

4) Amazon's return policy sucks so you'll be stuck with it.

several features about this alarm clock are very nice-- the brightness control, the slick styling, the dual colored LCD display, the dual alarm feature. but it has many problems. i am going to have to buy a new clock because of them.

for one, the technical details page in amazon says it has a nine minute snooze. the snooze, which is not programmable, is actually five minutes. you can't get any decent snoozing done in five minutes. and after you push snooze five times (only 25 minutes) it turns the alarm function off. i prefer to snooze for half an hour and then get up, and now i get fitful disrupted snoozing and then i oversleep because i accidentally push snooze a sixth time and the alarm turns off.

also, the "rooster" alarm, which i thought sounded cute and pleasant, is full of static hiss and is practically apocolyptically loud after just a few seconds. the regular buzzer isn't exactly a "gentle" way to wake up either. they both get too loud too fast.

overall i am very unhappy with this clock and i'm angry that the snooze times posted on the information page are wrong.
