Style Over Function?.......2007-01-15

I only used my Shuffle at the gym, so naturally I also got an armband and used it all the time. It turns out that the piece that connects the Shuffle to the armband is merely glued on to the rest of the armband! Within a week of owning it my headphone cord got caught in something and yanked out that piece with my Shuffle. So I super glued it back and things were well.

I must admit, it worked just fine for the rest of that year. However, one fine day, what I feared would happen happened: it yanked the USB piece out of my Shuffle. I set down a 15 lb weight on the ground and a part of it rested on my headphone cable so that when I stood up it yanked my Shuffle out through the front and so the USB part came out and I could see inside my Shuffle.

Ok, so I guess it was my fault technically, but what's the point of an armband if you can't use it at the gym without being afraid of breaking your mp3 player?! That should be the last thing on my mind! To its credit, my Shuffle kept working, and I ended up using lots of glue to put it back together. I don't see it lasting much longer though. A better design would've been for it to have been sturdier, or for the Shuffle to easily come out with pressure (like the MagSafe power cord) or something of that nature. This is a device that should be built for active sport situations.

Oh, and it gets dirty really easily.

White? For something I'm gonna sweat on?.......2006-04-20

I bought one of these w/ my Shuffle when they first came out. I could not find an alternate style at that time. I run marathons and lift weights, and let me tell you, the formerly white armband is white no longer. The material is not stretchy enough for weight-lifting either. I have to adjust it a couple of times during weight workouts as my muscles get swollen w/ excess blood flow as I lift. When I wear the armband with the device while running, I have noticed that sweat pools in the little USB receptacle. My Shuffle (w/ which I am also disappointed) became rusty at the USB portion and has had to be replaced twice since March 2005. I tried to get my money back the second time, but to no avail. Bottom line: Apple stuff looks cool, but that's about it. I'd prefer something ugly and functional instead.

A Terrible Product.......2006-04-05

The method used to secure the Ipod to the band is horrible. After 20 minutes of activity (jogging), the piece that accepts the usb end came loose, sending my ipod to the ground. A terrible product. Apple is only concerned with "artistic" styling at the expense of actual function.

How could Apple design such a perfect portable music player and then put their name on this crap??? Way too small, terrible velcro dots that rarely match up, and made of material that MIGHT last a week before it breaks. And the price? Are you kidding me? I returned this and got the Speck armband - much better!!!

Awful.......2005-09-16

This is very disappointing. It's huge, cumbersome, and uncomfortable. The worst part is that it's not elastic at all - just a hard rubberized canvas strap - so if you actually put it around your arm, it's alternately too loose and too tight as your arm muscle flexes just during a normal range of motion.

Plus, locating your Shuffle on your arm for jogging or running is just a bad idea. The cord ends up dangling and flapping around too much, getting in the way.

I bought this for running after getting new running shorts that didn't have pockets. I ended up switching to a belt clip to hold it to my waistband. Much, much better!

I like this radio.
Good points are
1. tough antena
2. came with nimh batteries
3. Good range through trees
4. earbud
5. very easy to open up the squelch and keep it open with having to keep pushing a buttion
Bad points are
1. Belt clip is easly broken
2.VOX dose not work with the earbud
3. When scanning the radio dose not show the sub coad of the radios it picks up.
4. can not connect a exturnal antena
5. No lanyard loop

If you get a deal on one of thease go for it. Other wize go for one of the new 2 watt mortorla radios. Or get a midland G11. I can't say I would buy them again but they are overall good radios.

Cobra GMRS 900DX - Two Pack.......2002-02-17

After considering the uniden GMRS 480 and Audiovox 1535, I chose the Cobra GMRS 900-2-DX because of size, the layout of buttons,overall feel, two year warranty, and more price competative if you didn't want the charger etc.. All of the ones I considered appeared to be 2watt with similar specs. (althought the Audiovox may have been 1.8 watt). Both the Uniden and Audiovox did have NOAA but since my wife and I were going to use them mostly in mall shoppoing, weather would not be a problem. The Cobra could fit in my shirt pocket or wife's purse with no problem. The longer antenna in the uniden may not have been as convenient to carry although may get a little better range and audiovox's screen and buttons were smaller, which may have caused a problem with my bad eyesight. The Cobra range is around 1.3 to 2.0 miles,depending on terrain, obstacles etc., sound is adeqauate but high frequency lacking. Compared to FRS I can achieve 4 times the distance since I could only get 0.5 - 0.8 miles with a 0.5watt FRS radio. I don't think you will ever achieve 5 mile range or even 3 miles unless you are on top of a 5 mile mountain talking to someone on the ground. Overall I am pleased with the Cobra. The FCC license fee is a bit pricey at $.. but that's life.

Nice machine, good range, good price.......2002-01-03

This is a nice machine. Lotsa features, I get pretty good reception. Bought mine at Farm & Fleet for 60 bucks a piece. Figuring that you can easily spend that on a 500mw radio, why get anything else. As previously written by another reviewer, the sound quality lacks but is still audible. It is missing the highs so it can be a little muffled. Would I buy it again? Yes.

Best I've owned so far..........2001-12-30

Shopping malls are noisy... yes. Casinos are much much worse guys. This Cobra was a very good help to myself and my friends who used to comb the casino searching for each other. I have no complaints at all. The earbud came with the kit and so did the batteries and charger. Very well worth the money.

sound quality was fine for us.......2001-12-06

My brother-in-law has a set of these recently introduced GMRS radios from Cobra....our transmissions were fine...we thought we had better fidelity than some police radios we have heard. Range was pretty good inside a large mall; one of us in a basement store and the other at the far end (about 3/4 mile) on the second story...that is a lot of concrete and steel in between, but reception was clear, vioces easily understood - a bit of static now and then, but that is to be expected from all the lights and other things "in the way" between the 2 units. I imagine the range in the open would be considerably more than standard FRS radios...but again, the law of physics apply....an FRS radio with 500mw (1/2 watt) goes say 2 miles on a good day; this unit with 4 times the theoretical power will only double the range, on average (the inverse square rule). But really folks, how far apart are you going to be from each other most of the time? Usually a mile or less...here, the extra "juice" gets the signal thru buildings better...we have no complaints about this new addition to the Cobra family...a great bargain with NiMH batteries, in-unit charging plus the earbud mike...even with an FCC license it is a good deal.
