At a hair more than half an ounce, the sleek and stylish scala-500 is one of the smallest and lightest devices available, but it still offers up to nine hours of talk time. An integrated speaker booster provides substantially higher volume capacity than is common in other headsets. Plus, echo-canceling technology alleviates those annoying voice feedback loops that are common with lesser headsets. An exchangeable ear-loop and eye/sunglasses attachment lets you place the headset where it's most convenient, while handy controls on the device allow you to voice dial, as well as to answer, mute, reject, and transfer calls. Great Product.......2007-09-09
This Cardo headset is awesome. Quality is great, easy to pair, and really stands up to the use. Would highly recommend this item or any of the Cardo Scala bluetooth headsets to anyone looking for a bluetooth headset.
Great little bluetooth.......2007-09-05
This has been the best I have tested. I have two other bluetooth headsets that just didn't work very well. The Plantronics Discovery 640E, it did not do well in my noisy truck, but in quiet areas it was very good, it has an ear bud and did not stay in my ear very well. Then the Logitech Mobile Bluetooth Headset, also not good in the noisy truck, and it would screech when it jumped from tower to tower.
But this Cardo Scala 500 works pretty well in my noisy truck, when I am NOT talking people on the other end hear the truck noise but as soon as I start talking the noise cancelling mic focus' in on my voice and shuts out the backround noise.
It is very comfortable and does not fall off.
the volume can get very loud too, that is good for me in the noisy truck.
I would recommend it, I got it quite cheap,less than the other two, look for sales.
OK, but not spectacular.......2007-08-30
This is my first bluetooth device. Read reviews and considered other headsets costing $50 and $100. Based on reviews and value, got this one. Have used it three days.
It works well and came with a good set of accessories. My only complaint really is that the tone of voices on my end sounds a bit like a tin can phone. Intelligibility is not a problem, but the sound is a bit disconcerting. Most people I talk to say it sounds fine on the other end, but one complained of the "tunnel sound."
But it is a good value. It synched with my T-Mobile Wing right away. I think it dropped a couple of calls, but cannot be certain where the blame lies. I just walked away from the phone and when I came back it reconnected immediately.
Other comments: The eyeglasses clip is a great idea but I'll have to modify it to work with my thin wire frames. The ear clip is fine. The supplied neck cord is a good idea, but I'm not using it. The belt clip seems a bit vulnerable as it sticks out pretty far.
Mine was missing the full manual (a return?), but the online PDF was easy to find.
Overall, I did expect slightly better performance, but am satisfied with the value and general function of this headset.
Cardo Systems Scala 500.......2007-08-05
The headset I received was apparently defective. The sound quality on my end was excellent but everyone I talked to said it sounded like I was in a tunnel. The car charger did not work at all. I returned the set for a full refund.
great quality and price (small ears friendly).......2007-07-22
Clean sound, no static. Fits larger ears as well as small. The ear loop is bendable which makes it custom to you. The eyeglass clip is a bit tricky to use, so I don't. The belt/shirt(or wherever) clip/holder is really great. The lanyard(?)is handy but I don't use it. Overall I am very glad that I got this product.You do not need to pay for high priced gear, that doesn't always mean the product is better. Especially on this headset.

You Can Do Better Than This.......2007-09-18
I got this headset about 6 months ago. It worked fairly well for the first four months, although the volume control was somewhat erratic -- nothing that I couldn't live with. However, in the past two months the bluetooth connection drops out unpredictably even though the phone is no more than three feet away at all times. I know that it's not the phone (LG enV) since the connection between it and my Motorola stereo headset never drops.
Aside from that (which is a deal breaker in my book: if I had known that this would happen, I never would have bought this headset), the earpiece is fairly flimsy. I haven't broken it, but I've come close several times. I also noticed that the price on this headset has gone way up since I bought it at $29.99. Why? -- I couldn't tell you. But it's not worth it -- for $43, you can do a whole lot better.
Good Product for the Price.......2007-07-30
Had this unit for a few weeks now - previously had 2 Motorola units. It connects readily with my "Q" (much better than the Motorolas did). Construction is a little cheap & cheerful but it is lightweight and sits comfortably on the ear. Lanyard & hoslter great ideas if you are inclined to lose/misplace things (fate of my last motorola bluetooth). Wind guard technology seems to work also.
Negatives - call button stands out and is easily pressed accidentally. Max volume just about OK would appreciate more range. Callers say sounds a little hollow/tinny in use. The 'silicon cap' referred to instructions is not supplied you have to ask them for this (they sent me one on request).
Overall rating good for the price and value for money.

I still haven't found what I'm looking for. Specifically, I am looking for a bluetooth headset that works well. This is my third headset. Out of the box it looked great. Fits well on the ears. Easy to use. Great price. Holds long charge.
Then the complaints started. While I can hear fine, the people on the other end of the conversation cannot. I might just use this solely for online PS3 gaming, IF they can hear me as well.
The other two BT headsets I have used are the Motorola 500 and 850. The 500 is a cheap but efficient headset. It works fine, but the sound quality is not in the same ballpark as the 850. My 850 was great, but I have problems connecting the charger.
So, I am still looking for the right BT. Any suggestions?

This bluetooth microphone works great. I hear to whom I am talking perfectly clear, and they say they have no trouble hearing me. I definitely recommend it.

WindGuard and the scala-500
At a hair more than half an ounce, the sleek and stylish scala-500 is one of the smallest and lightest devices available, but it still offers up to nine hours of talk time. An integrated speaker booster provides substantially higher volume capacity than is common with other headsets. Plus, echo-canceling technology alleviates those annoying voice feedback loops that are common with lesser headsets. An exchangeable ear-loop and eye/sunglasses attachment lets you place the headset where it's most convenient, while handy controls on the device allow you to voice dial, as well as to answer, mute, reject, and transfer calls. A charging cradle ships with the scala-500, offering fast recharging of the headset's internal battery. A carry sleeve is included as well, letting you carry the scala-500 on your belt or around your neck. And last but not least, the scala-500 is Bluetooth 1.2 compliant.

Nearly perfect bluetooth headset........2007-05-02
First off I'll go ahead and give the verdict on the Cardo Scala 500 BT headset: It's awesome.
Phones used: Palm Treo 650 and 700p
About 4 years ago I bought a Sony Ericsson cellphone which was too small for comfortable use and I bought my first bluetooth headset (a Jabra 250). Less than a year later and I upgraded to a Treo 650 which is notoriously finicky regarding bluetooth connection and stability and started looking for a replacement. After doing a lot of research I ended up buying my first Cardo Scala 500.
In comparison to the Jabra, it was smaller, had much better battery life, both for talk time and standby time. I never had any trouble with the phone connection, and from what my friends told me, the sound quality was far better than even using the phone itself. I was extremely happy with the purchase. After nearly 2 years of use, the headset suffered some significant damage (accidental crushing) though it still functioned normally for a while until it finally went under.
It just so happened that I switched phone carriers at around that time and the Verizon people had a deal on the Motorola HS-850 and the salesperson said it works great with his Treo 700w, so I thought I'd give it a try. Big mistake. The HS-850 would drop the BT connection (though not the phonecall) randomly during conversation, the sound quality was very tinny according to people I spoke with and the volume was very poor on my end.
I thought I'd look through Amazon and try to get another Scala 500. But at the time they were out of stock (except in pink), so I got the Scala 700. While the 700 is smaller and lighter than the 500, the sound quality is significantly worse (and worse than the HS-850 also). Additionally, the build quality is worse and the ear loop included in the package would not, no matter how I bent it, keep the speaker next to my ear (which is not oddly shaped in any way). Luckily I still had the ear loop from the old 500 and it fits perfectly and works without any problems. I will say there are times that the quality is decent/acceptible, and other times that it is abysmal. I cannot for the life of me figure out what makes one or the other occur.
So I've been using both the HS-850 and Scala 700 for about 5-8 months and the result is that neither is acceptible. The HS-850 is too problematic in the first place, and to top it off, it broke under what I would not consider to be excessive use nor was there any significant incident at all. One of the pivot points had a plastic failure and that's all it took to completely incapacitate the headset. The Scala 700 continues to have such spotty performance and my fiancée asked me to replace it.
So I bought another Scala 500. The sound quality is great (both ways), the price is great, and its light enough for extended use. More comfortable than the HS-850, BT250, and Scala 700 by far. The sound quality is such that I have used it in my convertible with better results than the built-in mic on the phone. That does NOT mean I would put somebody through a long conversation under those circumstances. But it is usable for brief conversations. Your mileage my vary, though. I am not impressed that the difference is reasonably represented by the sound clips provided above.
Way better than the Moto500 for Nokia.......2007-04-08
Right out of the box it worked great. I had to return the moto500 due to static and disconnecting every few minutes as well as volume issues
This Scala has excelletnt volume control, no static and works well with the Nokia 6301. It also comes with a belt clip, eye glass clip and laynard, all things you had to buy extra with Motorola.
As the person about said, much better fit when you bend the ear piece. On a side note, first day I the little pin that goes on the laynard fell off and is lost.

I have never owned a bluetooth headset prior to the Cardo Scala-500. I have a Treo 650 and the bluetooth connection was easy to establish. I've used this headset for about 5 months and I have not experienced any technical problems. I'm not excited about the blue flashing light...My headset is black and is often unnoticed until people see the blue blinking light; then they feel compelled to let me know my ear is blinking. However, I didn't like the look of the headsets with booms that extend along the cheek. Most importantly, my husband agrees that we have clear, static-free conversations (within 10-15 ft). Also, the device maintains a reasonable charge.

Easy Interface, Bad Product.......2006-06-28
I recently purchased this bluetooth Scala-500 and used it all about maybe 5 times. Why such a short amount of time? Because the sound quality heard on the other end is so poor that I am told it sounds like I am in a windy tunnel when in fact I am in the car with the windows up and radio off. It's a bit too hot to drive with air condition off and windows up just so the person on the other end can hear me. Now I keep this piece of junk in my console and will only use it if my Logitech bluetooth is out of power. If you buy this make sure you plan to use it in a place like a library where there are no sounds at all to interfere. The only good thing about this headset is that it was easy to setup and connects well with my cell phone. Think twice about buying this product or check it out at your local retailer first. Even with the rebate I only paid $[...], but still not a bargain. The one star was for the ease of setting up with my cell phone.

I ordered this and received it in January. About 3.5 weeks ago. It has stopped working. I emailed the customer service at Scala with no response. Amazon apparently will not take it back as it is 30 days from shipping. Do not buy this item as it is very defective. I did not drop it or misuse it in any way. It worked fine for about 3 weeks. We have followed all the directions and it simply is broken.

This headset works fine. I've heard from several people that while talking on the headset in the car and driving faster than 50 mph that there is a lot of background noise. In otherwords, it's hard to use it on the freeway, which is unfortunate.

I loved that headset at first. Easy pairing, good sound (nobody could tell I was using a headset). Volume a bit low, but adequate. My ears are a bit funky, so it took me a while to get the piece where it would stay, but that is independent of the product.
I used it twice with great results. Now, it just won't turn on anymore. I charge it, and the light stays on for only a short time. I haven't dropped it or done anything that could damage the unit. I am at a loss as to why it won't turn on after having worked so well. Very unhappy.

I have used this bluetooth for a couple of months now and it is my favorite. It has easy switching from ear to ear unlike my Motorola bluetooths. It also bonds with your previously bonded devices automatically. The battery life is incredible. I go about a week between charges, and I'm an average talker. The blue blinking light is a bit annoying and can keep me awake so I find I have to cover it up when I go to bed. The sound quality is excellent on both ends. Volume control can be a bit tricky. Depending on what ear you are wearing it on you may have to move the dial up or down. I don't care too much for the glasses attachment, but I believe I could get used to it if I didn't want to wear it on the ear. It's not quite as "pink" in real life. I think a man could wear this with no problem.

I am really enjoying this bluetooth. I chose the scala 500 because of the glasses attachment. It is loud and clear and works great!
