And that's only the beginning. This camera features BestShot and Alarm functions.
Amazon.com Product Description
The affordable, powerful Casio QV-R40 digital features a 4-megapixel resolution, 3x optical zoom lens, a fast 1-second start-up time, and a stylish, durable stainless steel body.
Optics and Resolution
The QV-R40 features a 4-megapixel resolution that captures vibrant colors and produces images up to 2304 x 1712 pixels for photo-quality prints up to 11 x 14 inches. Other resolution modes include 2240 x 1680, 1600 x 1200, 1280 x 960, and 640 x 480.
The QV-R40 packs a 3-segment telescoping type 3x optical zoom lens with sliding mechanism that makes it possible to fit everything into an ultra-thin, stylish aluminum body. Optical zoom provides the means to produce beautiful, low-distortion close ups. Using digital zoom in combination with optical zoom allows a total zoom of 9.6x with optical 3x and digital 3.2x combined. The 8-24mm zoom lens is equivalent to 39-117mm in 35mm photography.
Movie Mode
In addition to taking still photos, the QV-R40 can also record up to 30 seconds of video (without audio) at a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. The limited resolution of your movies guarantees that this feature won't replace your camcorder, but it's perfect for when you just want to capture a quick movie and e-mail it to a friend or relative.
More Features
With the QV-R40's Best Shot mode, both amateurs and professional photographers can take outstanding professional-quality photos without fussing over calibrations, filters or attachments. There are 21 settings within the Best Shot mode, including portrait, coupling, flower, sundown, text, food, and natural green.
Other features include:
- 1.6-inch LCD screen and viewfinder with diopter correction slider
- Built-in flash with auto, on, off, and red-eye reduction modes
- Built-in digital quartz clock with world time
- Capture an entire sequence of 1.3 megapixel images at 10 frames per second
- Focus modes: Contrast-type Auto Focus (AF Mode [AF Area: Spot or Multi], Macro Mode), Infinity Mode; focus lock; manual focus
- Color modes: Natural Color, Vivid Color, Black and White, Sepia
Storage and Transfer
Images can be stored in the QV-R40's internal 10 MB memory or on optional Secure Digital (SD) or MultiMedia (MMC) memory cards. Images can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via USB 1.1, which means the camera can be connected to any USB-based Windows Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software.
Power and Size
The camera is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery (NP-30, included). It measures 3.5 x 2.4 x 1.3 inches and weighs 7.4 ounces (excluding battery).
What's In The Box
This package includes the QV-R40 digital camera, rechargeable lithium-ion battery and battery charger, USB cable, wrist strap, and CD-ROM with Casio Photo Loader software and USB drivers for Windows and Mac.
Customer Reviews:
great digital camera.......2007-08-14
I breezed through the other reviews and i would have to agree on everything they had said. This casio camera is great. I had mine for four years and it was the most handy and easy to use camera. Although it was 4 megapixels, the picture quality is great and if you don't believe me send me a message and i can show you some of the thousands of pictures i've taken. I love how casio has the photo settings, great feature. Sadly mine doesn't work anymore, the metal casing of the camera is held in by tiny screws and i hadn't noticed i was missing 3 or 4 from the sides and the bottom. I've been looking for another once since i'm afraid to invest in a Casio exlm like my brother has incase i drop it, etc. But anyhow, this camera is a great find and unfortunately i haven't been able to find it anywhere!
Just what I needed!.......2005-04-07
I bought this camera just before a family vacation in March 2004. I wanted to do more research before I went digital, but the pressure was on to act before the trip. I found the manual to be useful and the camera to be VERY easy to use.
It takes great pictures and the small size is a plus.
I'll look to Casio when I buy my next camera.
Excellent product.......2005-03-20
I purchased the Casi QV-R40 digital camera two years ago, and I have not encountered any problems with it thus far. It has very nice picture quality, and ease of use. It comes with two rechargeable batteries and a battery charger, which are both very nice bonuses. The charged batteries will last a long time, but, I did buy a spare pair, in case one pair is charging, or one pair runs out of juice, simply put in the other pair. I would definitly reccomend, along with buying an extra set of batteries, to also buy a memory card that stores more pictures. I always use the highest quality of resolution, and normally take pictures one right after another. So, for me, the higher amount of pictures was a must. This is an excellent camera, and I would recomend the Casio QV-R40 to anyone looking for a digital camera.
A great camera for the price and for 5x7s.......2005-03-10
I have been through a number of the under $250 digital cameras and this is the one I am most happy with. To see a comparison of all of them, see the bottom of the review.
Pros of the qv-r40:
-short lag time (1/2 a second-very good in cheaper digitals!)
-great exposure in all lighting situations-great in low light
-lots of neat features and settings (sepia, b and w, night time, etc.)
-easy to maneuver through menus
-small compact size
-overall good photo quality (see cons)
-durable and long lasting
-great battery life (I keep it in the diaper bag and use it a few times a day. I charge every 2 or 3 weeks)
-Good price (I got mine for $99 on ebay)
Cons of the qv-r40:
-the only con I have with this camera is that the photos are sometimes a bit (though not horribly) grainy and pixelated at 8x10 or larger. I have gotten better quality in this area (though not in exposure) with Canon cameras (see camera comparison at end of review)
-the lack of sound on the video should be noted, but doesn't bother me...that's why I have a camcorder
I have no other qualms with this camera. i really enjoy using it and am happy with it. At 4x6 and 5x7 the pictures are amazing! Bigger and they are still good, but not quite up to par for a 4 mp, but then again, neither is the price.
CAMERA COMPARISONS (and what I paid)
I have had the Casio qv-4000 ($116), the canon a300 ($85), and have used the canon s30 (sell for around $120) a lot because of a family member. The canon a300 had too long of a shutter lag which just got really annoying with my kids (3 seconds lag and they are gone). The s30 is faster on the lag (1/2 second), but has a lower battery life than the 1300 and the qv-r40 and is renowned (like many point and shoot canons) for getting errors where the lens doesn't pop out anymore. My QV-4000 had a very weak flash (though you could buy an extra flash attachment) and was bulky for a point and shoot but had great picture quality because it uses a canon lens. It was a great little camera. Picture quality was higher on the qv-4000 than on this one, but for indoor photography, you would definitely need the flash that can be purchased for it. It also took 4 batteries and still had a shorter battery life.
older tech, but great for the price.......2005-02-20
i've had over 10 different digicams up to an 8 mp nikon for $1m. i was looking for an upgrade for my wife, and i was drawn to casio because my son has one of the real thin, large lcd exilim models that is very impressive. the r40 is discontinued, but readily available on the used/refurb market. other than the thicker body (still less than 1") and smaller lcd (good enough) this model is a real quality peice. metal, not plastic, 4mp, 3x zoom, lots of good features. takes sd cards, and has some built-in memory. takes real clear, good color pics which can easily be printed well to 8.5x11 and even to 11x14. you can get them used or refurbed in the $125-$150 range. my wife loves it, so i got another for my daughter, and another for myself when i don't want to lug around my primary nikon.

Slow monitor, high price, small screen.......2007-08-22
all of you mind that i'm talking abot all of this with the high price in mind.
the response time is 14ms.... for a cheap 200 monitor ive seen it for around 5ms
contrast sucks, most good monitors have ATLEAST 500:1 contrast, for this price you do not want this contrast, lower contrast means worse picture quality.
the screen is tiny, who these days has a 17 inch screen, plus its not widescreen! If you like this brand acer theres like a 22 inch widescreen with better specs and even cheaper than this.
i personally have a samsung 22 inch widescreen with 2ms response and 1000:1 contrast (it says 3000:1 but its a different contrast measure)
this monitor was the beast deal ever, for only 30 bucks more than this low quality high priced monitor.
just think about it,
great for the price.......2007-06-20
Has worked perfectly for me. Highly recommended.
not as good as my CRT.......2006-06-29
I was given this monitor at work to replace a Viewsonic CRT, and I have to say it's not as good.
My biggest problem is that it's too bright. I work in a dim environment, and when I turned the monitor down to brightness=0, my eyes still feel fatigue.
I also have been unable to adjust the gamma because I can't turn down the brightness enough.
Further, when you move your head from side to side, parts of the screen look more and less yellow. (this doesn't happen on other LCDs/laptops I've used).
Maybe on a budget this is great, but since I stare at the screen for 9 hours a day, and I'm probably hypercritical, this LCD is not the best choice.
When I finally break down and buy an LCD for myself, at home, I know I will have to test it in person.
Just can't find that much to complain about...........2005-12-13
I looked through literally hundreds of reviews and chose this one because: I didn't want to spend $400 or more for a monitor that had vibrant color and excellent clarity with a flat screen. Reviews I found elsewhere for this FDS were more optimistic.
Many of the monitors available today are made by companies I have never heard of. Years ago I owned an Acer computer that functioned just fine for a long time. I ordered this screen from Amazon via Tigerdirect.
The packaging was excellent - sturdy and constructed to take shipping shock very well. Installation took about 20 minutes. My hands are small - fitting the plug into the socket in a parallel position to the base wasn't hard for me. I do agree that part of the design is dumb (therefore 4 stars).
This screen is used on my computer with business software, general internet use and desktop publishing -- not for gaming. I've used it since May'05 and there are no dead pixels.
I am an experienced photographer so color and clarity are important. The only picture I've seen that is truly a dissapoint is one of a cave in Utah where there are many hues of red and yellow. For some reason the pixels in that picture distort into tiny blocks of color. In every other case the color and clarity have met my standards. I have a $400 dell display used for gaming on my other computer. I can't see any obvious difference in visual quality when using the same software on either computer for non-gaming purposes.
Your paying to much for this!!.......2005-11-15
I myself am a computer Geek I purchased 2 of the ACER 1914b's and plugged them up to a NVIDA 256MB 5200 chaintech videocard for Photoshop work. They are great. They play games great with an average of 12-16ms access times on them. I am sorry my review doesn't actually go over the AL1714b. . . but the price they're offering for the 1714 is NUTS!!! Happy shopping!!

Customer Reviews:
Mostly good if you can find it cheap.......2005-11-25
I bought one of these cases used for about $40 and I am very satisfied with it for that price.
On the upside;
It is much lighter than steel cases and comes with a handy carrying strap. The fit and finish is quite good, and I have not slashed my skin on any sharp edges in the case. Its relatively easy to plug cards into the slots due to the innovative "outboard" slot screws, and if you drop a screw it will likely not fall inside the case and require you to hunt for it amongst the components. The hard drive mounting section can be completely removed from the case as a separate enclosure so you can easily install the drives in a place where you can see what you are doing. The aluminum construction dissipates heat better than steel.
On the downside;
Aluminum is a soft metal and it scratches easily, your case will be easily marred. The hinged front cover is nice at first but I find that I generally leave it open in order to quickly access the CD/DVD drives and the power and reset buttons. If you have the case turned on its side to work on your system and want to hit the power button its a hassle to open the cover to reach it. I wish the case had larger fan inlets and outlets, it is hard to move much air through the case without noisy little fans.
What are you buying?.......2003-06-02
The computer case is actually a mini tower Antec Lanboy. It is not a mid tower as described. I bought this item thinking it was a alumininum mid tower.
Worth the money!.......2003-03-03
I was sceptical of spending so much money on a case when in the past I have had great success with cheap no name cases and PSU's. After hearing the horror stories of bad PSU's gone wild I decided to invest in Antec. This case rocks. Slick color and just the right size for my MB. The door at times of annoyance hides the ugliness of my unmatchable drive colors. After looking into studies on aluminum vs steel decided to go aluminum. For an aluminum case with pre installed window and psu on top of that you really can't ask for a better deal. All in all. Always had good service with Amazon and and have heard nothing but good things about Antec. Now I am not only sold on amazon but also ANTEC.

Toshiba once again sets the standards for color television excitement and performance. From the largest projection TVs, to compact portables, you can count on Toshiba to dazzle you with the utmost in picture quality, audio enhancements, and easy-to-use convenience.Innovation, advanced technology, and convenience are built into each Toshiba color television. Toshiba brings you technology that is sure to arouse the senses.PRODUCT FEATURES: FST Pure CRT features a flat-glass viewing surface, which lets you see more picture from a greater range of angles, with less light reflection compared to a traditional radius CRT.INVAR Shadow Mask creates a uniform image in the corners and edges of the screen on large-screen and FST Pure picture tubes.Velocity Scan Modulation improves black-to-white image transitions and enhances picture definition in high ambient light conditions.Video Lock allows you to block out or bypass certain video inputs with a password.Video Label allows you to label each input independently (e.g. DVD, DTV, VHS).
Amazon.com Product Description
Enjoy vivid, high-contrast pictures from Toshiba's 27-inch FST PURE flat picture tube. Affordable, stylish, and loaded with features, the 27AF43 makes a great upgrade to a DVD or satellite-based home theater. The set's FST PURE flat tube eliminates intrusive reflections from ambient light relative to conventional CRT designs and broadens the angles from which the screen may be viewed.
The 27AF43's three-line digital comb filter and vertical contour correction further enhance resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).
Meanwhile, velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. Another technology, black-level expansion, improves contrast (which results in a sharper, more three-dimensional picture).
The set provides stereo reception (with five watts per channel) and SAP (second audio program), which is often used to broadcast an alternate-language track. The 27AF43 derives a heightened sense of stereo separation from its double-baffle speaker system, and BBE High-Definition Sound improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages.
A ColorStream component-video input provides the ultimate picture quality from interlaced component-video signals; standard composite-video inputs accommodate all DVD players and most other video sources. You get two sets of rear AV inputs (one with S-video) as well as one set of front AV inputs for easy connection with a camcorder or gaming console. A rear AV output lets you hook the set up with a surround receiver. The 27AF43 also features V-chip parental controls, a sleep timer, channel lock, GameTimer, and a glow-in-the-dark universal remote control.

Great Television.......2004-04-23
I myself have been a fan of Sony, but when buying my next t.v I wanted to step up the research. I looked at a few web reviews like the ones here and could bot find a definitive answer- there was one place to go- Concumer Reports. Consumer reports rated this the best 27 inch television- this was what I needed to see- if I have learned one thing, it is to trust these guys! I was finnaly ready to buy, so I drove up to Best Buy to find an open box model of this tv- it was 75 $ off with no noticeble flaws. Once I got it home I knew I made the righ choice- it has a clean and vibrant picture with crisp sound, and yes you can here the base! Everything you would need in a tv for not too much money! If your in the market for a new tv, look no further!
Excellent TV.......2004-03-27
I bought this Toshiba TV for a family member and I have to say that it's excellent. Beautiful colors, super sharp image, good remote, tons of connections. Actually, the only thing I could critique is that it should have had one or more s-video connections. I have a super vhs video and DVD player and if I ever got digital cable, this TV wouldn't suffice when it comes to the number of s-video inputs. But I didn't buy it for me so the many inputs/outputs were sufficient for the person I bought it for.
The sound is also good. Maybe not great but it does have BBE and Surrond Sound.
And the remote is really good too. I love the video input button (video 1, video 2, Colorstream, etc). You can watch a DVD and a video cassette and cable TV at the same time (if you want to do that). Also, because the DVD, VCR and TV are all Toshiba, the remote can control all three Toshiba products. Now that's cool.
So, overall, this Toshiba flat screen TV is great. Except for the number of s-video connection, there's almost nothing wrong with it. And the price here in Canada is perfect ($450, which is the same price in the US). Highly recommended.
Best in its range...for me.......2004-03-04
I (like everyone) did a little study on flat 27" televisions and found this to be the most desirable for several reasons: 1) consumer reports 2) appearence 3) value. I bought this set from bestbuy and returned it because of a flaw (bouncing/blooming with the news ticker), and decided on the Samsung 27" flat...bad idea, that tv had terrible geometry, and while the picture was sharp, it was not vibrant. Sound was terrible, and I'm not talking for cinematic reasons, but it was very 'tinny' and hollow. Returned it the next day (they were all that way). A salesman told me Sony (fs100) comes back as much as any (and circuitcity.com has customer reveiws..complaints of cheap frames etc) The Panasonic reminded me of and ugly boombox. The Sharp is not sharp. So...I bit my lip and took the toshiba.
1-Toshiba
(PRO)-sharp compenent picture, analog/digital cable got very clear once cables and connections updated. Great appearance with smokey color that blends with any room. Great sound even without surround (checked both).
(CON)- without the cleanest cable connection, the picture clarity fails and tends to bloom (pays to update old cables in the house). This model seems to struggle a little with speaker shielding (noticable on white screens, but not a huge issue)...for the price those are the only problems I've found after 6 months. I still feel I made the right purchase
***One interesting way to get and HD look (rather prog scan look) is the 16:9 compression. By itself will 'squish' the picture...BUT, if you have a DVD player that'll expand the picture/signal, the TV will still display the same resolution on the screen (just morphed taller)...at this point you can use the 16:9 and compress the image back to a natural state. This produces the sharpest image without being an HDTV. BTW this only works with widescreen formats (1.85:1 and 2.35:1) and standard 4:3 movies. You can probably try this with any DVD player that will expand (I have a pioneer that will and a Koss that won't) and a tv with 16:9 compression (virtually all flats have)
** Also, rather that purchasing that extended warranty (you get a year manufact), check the manufacturer website to find an authorized dealer in your area that handles factory warranty repairs. If a tv lasts a year (I've had a few), it'll last well beyond the extended warranty. All this is good if you get a 27" (average 80-90 lb), but maybe not with a 150lb 32" or higher
Good, not great!.......2004-01-26
After a lot of research on TV's I settled for this one. It is a huge improvement over my old RCA in many ways, but it seems to have a problem when showing sharp transitions between black and white. This is most noticable on text or animation. It looks as if the lines are blurred and I can't seem to find a fix for the problem. I went and looked at TV's at the local Best Buy and I noticed that most of the TV's including many HDTV's had the same problem. I'm starting to wonder if this is just a COX Dgital Cable thing.
On the positive side the Colors are extremely vibrant, Blacks are black and DVD's look stunning through the component input. I also find the reflections of the picture on the silver TV frame a bit annoying while watching in low light situations. Unfortunately black TV's seem to be a thing of the past.
Great TV!.......2004-01-25
Got this as a gift for my mother. I compared a few brands but for the money this one just can't be beat! The reviewer below who described "HUGE" pixels and a "distorted" picture needs to return his coke bottom glasses for a new pair. This is typical for most sets in this price range, it's not an HD display. Clearly he must have a problem with Toshiba or he just isn't informed.
Anyway, it's a great product. I got it for my mother for crying out loud! :)
