Customer Reviews:
Excellent design and performance!.......2007-09-27
After another brand caused problems with my UPS software and an external hard drive, I bought the D-Link DUB-H7. All five of my connected devices have been working perfectly ever since. The status LEDs are reassuring, the unit runs cool and it is made well. I think it is the best USB hub for the money!
not enough power.......2007-09-24
The specs for this item state that it delivers 500mA to each channel. However, the power supply shipped with the hub is rated to deliver only 3A, which is not enough to deliver power to all seven ports at the same time.
It is misleading for DLink to claim that they can give you 500mA on each port.
Not compatible with all USB 2 devices.......2007-09-24
The D-Link Hub H-7 is NOT compatible with the USB 2 Sandisk Cardreader. I bought the hub specifically to free up a USB 2 port on my CPU that I was using for the card reader. It took about an hour to straighten out the mess created by these two pieces of equipment.
This peripheral failed once again this morning. It was necessary to unplug and replug a USB 2 device in order to get it to work. The reviewer above is correct about power through-put. I cannot use it for my card reader which requires power or to recharge my iPod. I still have my old USB 1 hub. I won't toss it now. It may go back on line.
I'm also very suspicious of the authors of many of the rave reviews. Can they be D-Link distributor employees?
My comments are not suitable for this site. Sufficed to say - beware of the D-Link Hub. It doesn't work with everything. Returning the D-Link is more hassle than it's worth, I'll just toss it if it continues to fail, so the sale stands though the customer is not happy.
Easy to use.......2007-09-23
I use the usb hub to connect all my USB stuffs. It proves that this usb hub with external power supply can support my external usb 2.0 harddrive(no internal power supply), webcam, mouse and printer. Actually I also use the hub as a power supplier when recharging my bluetooth headset.
But one thing you need to know that if you connect one USB 1.0 equipment in the hub, then the speed of all other usb stuffs will be lowered to USB 1.0. I have no idea why it can work in a sperate way. Anyway, in all the hub is still a good one. I have only 3 usb port in my T61. I desperately need it.
Beware - NOT Vista Compatible.......2007-09-07
Seemed like such a nice product but had to return it because it was not compatible with my MS Vista operating system. Be sure to check the product discription carefully.

Customer Reviews:
Good value for the money.......2007-09-27
Pro:
1. Work as expected.
2. Good speed.
3. USB ports powered when computer is off/suspend, if you use external power. (The D-Link 7 port hub does not have this feature!)
4. Good price
Con:
1. Hard mount is not really useful
2. The base should be attached to the hub by default
3. Sharp edge if the base is not attached
4. Why the LED is sooooooooooo bright?
I think mine was defective.......2007-09-23
I read the reviews, it looked like what I needed, so I ordered one. Mine might have been defective, because it was loud, quite loud. I've never had a USB Hub that has made any noise, but this one had a very high pitched whine to it, at all times, also I thought the light was to bright, great size and layout of the USB ports, I don't think I'll try another one of these.
7 Port USB 2.0 Hub.......2007-09-14
Great little hub to keep everything connected & handy. I like the aluminum finish, & the weight of it. I also like the option to plug it into an AC outlet & make it a POWERED USB hub. This is important for many peripherals. The blue light on top makes it easy to find, but is verry bright at night, almost like a blue flashlight shining a cone onto the adjacent wall. The unit easily slides out of the aluminum "base tray" if needed. This is my only caveat with the unit. I wish it had a way to lock the hub into the tray so it would not be so easy to slide out when you don't want to remove it.
Overall, I am well pleased with my purchase, & would definately recommend.
Does exactly what it's supposed to do........2007-09-12
Having the slots on the front and back of the hub works really well in my situation. It is quite compact.
Solid, simple, very practical.......2007-09-10
Unlike other items that cannot stand on their own because of the weight of cables attached, this one can comes with a metal base that can be mounted on a wall. The hub slides in and out of the base easily. This thing is all metal: it feel solid very well designed.
I'm getting a second one.
It's worth it.

less than expected for money.......2007-09-24
I EXPECTED TO HAVE FLASHING LITES ON WHT PORT I AM WORKING ON , IT WILL BE BETTER THAN STEADY LIGHT . AND STILL I NEED PWOER SOURCE THAN THE COMPUTER , LIKE MORE WIRES TO UR DISCK , I BOUGHT IT TO SAVE SPACE NOT INCREASING THE WIRES .
What a time and space saver.......2007-08-23
My daughter-in-law gave me a 4 bay docking station with power strip and I added this USB hub. It is self-powered so devices that charge through the USB port can do so without the PC on. All my portable devices (MP3 players, PDVR, cellphone, MP4 watch) can be connected, charging, and downloaded simultaneously.
Nice and bright!.......2007-08-16
This hub works great! It is very, very bright, which as a gadget freak, I totally love.
Perfect size.......2007-08-09
This was the perfect formfactor I needed for my home office. This hub is powered by an included power adapter, so I just leave all my printers, drives, ect, plugged into it. When I bring my laptop into the office, I plug in one wire and am set.
If I had to come up with a complaint, it would be that, I can not mount it to my desk or wall. It is a free standing unit. Not a problem for me.
works as advertised.......2007-07-31
little fuss or muss -- more compact than some competitors.
mounts USB 2.0 devices that need more power than my laptop
ports put out.

Customer Reviews:
great so far.......2007-09-21
No problems with this unit at all thus far (I've had it about a month). It's small and unobtrusive, and I like that it has most of its ports on the front. No problems with power or connection that I can tell. The only thing I wish it had were indicator lights to let me know that things were connected correctly, but it's not much of an inconvenience given the price and reliability compared to other equivalent items I've seen reviewed here. Also, it looks black and white in the photo, but it's actually black and silver, which was a pleasant surprise for me.
Didn't work.......2007-09-21
The product doesn't work. I plugged it in and after a couple of hours, my devices stopped working. I thought it was a problem with the peripherals, but alas, it was not, as I plugged them back directly into my computer and they worked fine. Disappointing...
Garbage.......2007-09-18
Worked fine for all of five days, then made a strange noise and proceeded to malfunction with every device. Doesn't work at all now, and is sitting in a box under the bed along with other cheap electronics which don't work. Avoid, unless you like to take chances for the fun of it. Maybe yours will work OK....
Satisified customer.......2007-09-13
I like that this has Usb ports on the back side as well as the front. It keeps my permanent connections out of reach and my temporary connections very accessible.
Broke within the Week.......2007-09-09
The hub worked fine for a few days, I was very happy with it. BUt one day when I turned on my computer windows kept telling me that I had an unrecognized USB device, and that none of my items plugged in through the USB hub were being recognized. I reached down and noticed the unit was very hot, too hot to touch, and was a fire hazard. I'm returning it and buying a name-brand hub, costs a little more but obviously worth it. Avoid this product.

Good design but takes up too much room.......2007-08-12
This is a really interesting product that has received rave reviews on other electronics purchasing website, so I bought it at a good sale price with high hopes. Now that I've received it, am a little underwhelmed. Certainly the design is useful, as others have pointed out, with the two USB hubs on top that make it quick and easy to plug in temporary items, like flash drives. And the connection to the computer is nice because it uses an additional mini-USB port on the hub, rather than taking up one of the precious 7 full-size USB hubs that I hope to use!
However, I was disappointed by two things.
1. This unit requires being plugged in to an electrical outlet for power. My previous USB expander did not require power outside of what it received through the USB connection to the computer itself. Now I have to find space in my overused power strip for this *large* adapter. (Some people say that these powered USB adapters are necessary if you are plugging in items that require power draw through the USB. I personally don't have any such peripherals.)
2. The size of the hub itself is pretty big and will take up desk space - it's maybe about 3" by 5". Again, bigger than my previous USB expander.
All in all, although I have not spent extensive time with this unit yet, it seems to do the job it was intended to do.
Great solution for labtop USB connectivity!.......2007-02-13
This is a simple and efficient way to increase the USB connectivity for a laptop computer. We just purchased a new HP laptop with only 3 USB ports. Between webcam, printer, wireless mouse/keyboard, and external hard drive, there was not enough ports on this brand new computer. By using this 7 port hub we got all the connectivity we needed. What's more, since the hub is self-powered with an AC adapter, we're not drawing power from the laptop's motherboard. We've used this for a month and have had no problems whatever.

Nice hub for the price.......2007-06-19
This is a nice little external hub for the price. It works just fine. The hub is a little too light for me. I have to velcro it to the desk to keep it in place if I am using all of the rear ports to keep it from falling off to the floor. I sold this to someone else and bought the D-Link 7 port hub instead. I only gave it 4 stars because it needs to be held down otherwise it could fall off if all the ports are in use.
Superb -- I'm very happy with this hub........2007-01-09
There are lots of devices like this out there, and this was the best price I found. Everything seems to connect these days by USB, and this hub is a great way to expand computers with only five or six built-in connections.
Would Not Buy..........2006-11-08
Plugged it in, it was fine. Went down to my computer 5 days later and the lights were off, no longer worked. Called IO Gear, took 5 days to get an RMA# so that I could send it back to them for repair. Dealer wouldn't take it back because I had it over a 7-day period (took me a couple days before I installed it) I'm in Canada, so I have to pay extra shipping to US for repair. I don't think it is worth it, I'll probably chuck it out and get another brand.
Looks cool and I like the design, except for the base, but the quality is very poor.

IOGear Hub - simple and reliable.......2006-11-03
I have used the hub for 3 months now and so far it has worked without any sort of issue. Good product for the price.
Looks good, but doesn't work very well.......2006-04-22
I bought this hub to go with my Mac Mini. It looks good, and I like the two front-facing ports (great for iPods and cameras). However, I've had nothing but problems with the devices I've used with the hub.
When trying to upload pictures from my camera, it will work great the first time. If I "eject" the camera, disconnect it, and then connect it again later, iPhoto hangs up trying to access the camera. If I connect the camera to a different port, everything works fine. The only thing that regains access to that port is rebooting the computer and the hub.
This same behavior manifests itself with iPods (a Shuffle and a Nano) and iTunes. iTunes usually just hangs up trying to access the iPod, forcing a hard reboot. Fortunately I haven't had to do an iPod software update through this hub - who knows what would happen!
When printing to my Canon S800 printer through this hub, the print queue will randomly stop itself for no apparent reason. Sometimes restarting the print job works, other times it simply spits out random parts of pages and stops again. Switching the printer to a different hub fixed the issue and now everything is working perfectly.
The only device I haven't had problems with using this hub is an external USB2.0+FireWire hard drive. It's much slower with the USB2.0 connection than with the FireWire connection, though, so I usually just plug it in with FireWire.
Anyone want to buy a used USB 2.0 hub? ;)

A good USB hub.......2007-09-28
I am a long time Windows user. I bought this Tripp-Lite USB hub to expand my daughter's new iMac (OS 10.4). While I was researching the USB hub, I realize that not all USB hubs are created equal. I want something that will definitely work with the iMac even though I might need to pay a bit more. To my delight, the product works very well, and I have no problem to set it up. To balance its light-weight base, I use connections from both the front and the back and it stands up pretty stable. My daughter is pretty happy with it, and I am a satisfied customer. If the price could just come down a bit, I would definitely rank it 5 stars.
Serves the purpose.......2006-11-06
This works well. I havent had any issues. While its not a true 7 port as you can actually see only 4 USB connectors in your hardware configuration once you have this conected to your desktop/laptop. Tips over easily if the connections arent balanced front and back. Would have been good to have a LED for each port as a means to ensure the ports are working.

SMC EZ Connect 7 Port USB 2.0 Hub.......2007-01-09
Works very well 90% of the time. Have experienced two failures, probably from from an overheated chip, because it restarted after the system was idle for awhile. 2.0 speed is questionable at times. Periodically a Windows message is received that a particular device could work faster if connected through a high speed port.
Inconsistent.......2006-08-16
This item, though great at first glance, has trouble handling anymore than 4 USB devices. SMC should test their items before they sell them. I am extremely disappointed with this item.
Nice-n-Tidy.......2006-07-20
This 7 port hub does a great job of keeping all those cords out of the way and I even have a few slots open to plug in those extra USBs... Works great.
7-Port USB 2.0 Hub.......2006-03-07
This is a great little device. It mounts horizontally or vertically and snaps easily in either position. I screwed it into my desk vertically with the mounting bracket and it works great. Much better and less expensive than any other similar devices I could find online.
GREAT SMALL USB HUB.......2006-02-04
This is a much smaller hub than I had expected compared to my belkin 4 port hub. It can be mounted horizonal or vertical. This is great for small spaces. You can use the power transformer or usb from your pc to power this hub.I did't have to install any drivers. It has 7 usb and 1 power indicator light. All 7 usb ports are arranged to connect perfect in rear of hub.The small blue and gray cover is nice. The $19.99 price with a lifetime warrenty was the seller.I recommend this hub any day.It has 2 holes in base for mounting. It has worked perfect for 5 days out of the box.Smc has a great web site for any software you may need .
