      Amazon.com Product Description

The amazingly small, ultra-slim, and lightweight Panasonic SVAV50 is ready to capture your favorite moments in digital video and still photos wherever you roam. You can also use the SVAV50 as a digital audio player, voice recorder, and image viewer through your TV (using the included cradle). The SVAV50 is so small because it uses no tape--all video, images, and audio are stored on a tiny Secure Digital (SD) memory card. It also features 2-megapixel digital still resolution, 2-inch flip-and-twist LCD for reviewing your video and photos, and 2.5x digital zoom. This model (SVAV50A) comes in blue, but the SVAV50 is also available in silver (SVAV50S).

      Video and Still Optics
Using the MPEG4 format, the SVAV25 saves video to Secure Digital (SD) and MultiMedia (MMC) memory cards (an 8 MB SD card is included). With the small size of MPEG4 files--featuring resolution modes of either 320 x 240 or 176 x 144--you can easily post video to your Web site or send files to friends and family via e-mail.

The D-snap cradle is equipped with an A/V terminal that makes it easy to connect to a TV or VCR and record TV programs onto an SD card. Using the SVAV50 for playback, you can watch the news, a movie, or other programs just about anywhere.

The following shows the approximate amount of continuous video that can be recorded on several sizes of SD memory card (including larger optional cards):

      The SVAV50 has a 1/3.2-inch CCD for a 2-megapixel resolution--capturing enough image data for print enlargements up to 8 x 10 inches. It features 1600 x 1200 (2 MP), 1280 x 960 (1 MP), and 640 x 480 (VGA--great for sending in e-mail) resolution modes. You can zoom in on subjects using the 2.5x digital zoom.

      Audio
In addition to its motion and still image capability, the SVAV50 can also be used as a digital audio player--just slip in an SD card loaded with tunes and listen via the included earphones. It's compatible with MP3 and AAC audio files. And with the built-in microphone (monaural), you can easily record voice memos, lectures, interviews, and reminders to the SD card.

4 out of 5 stars Great for beginners............2005-08-08

I got this for my birthday a while ago, and is my first of a couple of digital cameras that i like to use regularly. most other cameras only take aroung 8 to 15 mins of video with a high memory card but this one takes alot more. with a 512 mg SD card you can take over 1 hour of video and hundreds of pictures on high resolution. the "mp3 player" is a little low rate but its ok. and i never really used the voice recorder, but when i did test it it sounded ok except for a low static sound in the backround. if you do get it i suggest getting an extra battery, and at least a 256 mg card. Most of the problems that occur can be fixed with the manual, and if you have a dot on your screen that doesnt change its alright because it wont come out in the picture. 2 megapixels is a little on the grainy side, but you can print regular sized pictures without any of the grainy effect. Overall it is a very handy and useful camera for everyday use and catching those spur of the moment things.

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!.......2005-04-25

This is very poorly designed product, extremely user-unfriendly. The PC connection has to be snapped so tight till it almost breaks to make a connection. Buttons are very small. I have tiny fingers but still have trouble setting to the right mode and if you are not careful, you could be digital video-recording which takes all the memory in 1 minute instead of taking the pictures. The pics are very poor quality and DARK!!! DO NOT BUY this product, just buy a real digital camera or buy a real digital video recorder.

3 out of 5 stars Nice little product.......2004-12-24

I recently bought this on sale (very good price I might add) and am going to be sending in for the rebate. For what I paid it is a great little product. It's nice to stick in your purse or bag and you have everything at your fingertips - voice recorder, camera, video and music.

      Drawbacks:
1 - It only plays MP3 files (it comes with software which you must use, but it is easy).
2 - When playing music if you accidentally nudge the little orange button (used for making menu choices etc) it will go back to the start of the song - very annoying. I am going to try putting a piece of tape over it if I will be listening for awhile and if it will be in my purse or pocket at the time.
3 - Only comes with an 8 MB card! It hardly holds anything! You WILL want to buy another card if you are going to use it much at all so factor the cost of a 128 or 264MB card into your budget.

For everything together it is great. Obviously it is not as good as a normal digital camera, but I am not going to carry my camera with me. With this in my purse if I see a picture I can't resist or (God forbid) I get in a fender bender I will have it right there to snap a few shots.

It's a nice little splurge to have fun with at the right price.

      1 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!.......2004-11-05

This is not an MP3 player. To listen to music on it you have to use some stupid conversion software. Personally I think their is a great class action lawsuit for false advertising on this. In the meantime I putting this POS on ebay, and vowing never to buy another Panasonic product again.

3 out of 5 stars OK, but not in the top range.......2004-08-19

I purchased the camera a few months ago. I saw it first at a stand at JFK, and thought it was a really neat and fantastic little product. I knew straight away all the my tech friends would love it. Cool design, easy to use. Small, smaller than most mobile phones. Good flash, even sometimes it is to good, and can flash away your picture, meaning close-up photos may become to bright. But I guess it also has something to do with the person operating it. :-)

So then there are of course a few downsides to it too! 1. Inside filming is a bit tricky. You either need very good lighting in-doors to get a good video, or you need to turn on the night view option, which then slows down the FPS (frames per second) which really means that the video slows down, and you really have to hold it still to make a good video. Not a good option I think. So that really sucks, because it means you really have to have some good light indoors. Outside is ok. Not the best video quality there either, but it is more than acceptable and the sound is good.

The second thing here is that it is only a 2 mega pixel camera. And most people today probably have a compact digital cam that has from 3.2 and up. There is no doubt that a compact cam of 2 mega, bets this cameras 2 mega. The pictures are ok, but once you are used to better quality cams, then you kind of feel like you are stepping back with this one. Would be cool to see this cam with at least 3.2 mega...

Unfortunately I lost the CD cover with the installation code for the installation of the MP3 software, so I have not been able to test that yet. But the earphones that came with the cam seem to be of pretty good quality. We'll see.

My overall conclusion is that this is an OK cam to have, but should not be your prime camera to use for those special occasions, vacations etc. I would then stick to either a digital camera with better mega pixels, or just a regular film camera. (but that takes away some of the fun taking pictures I think) Good luck.

      Product Description

Panasonic PV-DV402 3-in-1 Palmcorder MultiCam camcorder features digital camcorder, digital still camera and teleconferencing Web camera capabilities, all in one easy-to-use camcorder. The PV-DV402 uses infrared technology to record video in total darkness with remarkable detail. Subjects can be recorded up to 10 feet away, and in your choice of black and white, blue or green imaging. MagicPix Images feature lets you shoot full color video and stills when you're in extremely low light situations. Progressive PhotoShot Mode helps to eliminate fuzziness by digitally capturing the image data of a singular moment, and temporarily storing it in two field memories. The two images are then combined to produce a better quality picture. Mega Still Pictures feature delivers sharp, one million pixel still images. With the i.LINK, you can easily connect your camcorder to your PC through the IEEE 1394 interface. It also lets you link to another camcorder to duplicate your footage without any loss in picture quality. Card Link lets you use an SD memory card to save and transfer motion and still images to your PC. Dual Digital Electronic Image Stabilization (D-EIS) feature compensates for unintentional hand and camcorder movement when recording. You can also use it in playback mode to help reduce jitter in previously recorded video. MPEG4 Movie Messenger System allows you to transfer video clips from your digital Palmcorder camcorder to your PC (via the USB port or IEEE 1394 interface) and then attach them to an e-mail.

      Amazon.com Product Description

Combining 1.3-megapixel stills--albeit interpolated--with a 10x optical zoom, the PV-DV402 wraps some great features in its plastic and metal body. Images are stored on SD cards, and an 8 MB card is included, which can be downloaded to your computer via USB. For those that like to shoot in low-light conditions, the camcorder also features a built-in color-recording mode for those types of situations. According to Panasonic, the mode will help reduce the graininess often associated with low-light shooting.

A zoom mic, built-in light, and remote control are included with the PV-DV402, along with an MPEG-4 movie system, which lets you capture compressed video clips for e-mailing to friends and family. Additionally, Panasonic includes a software suite from ArcSoft for organizing and printing still images. The camcorder also features an external mic input, composite video out, S-video out, and, of course, IEEE 1394.

4 out of 5 stars Great Camcorder with abundant features........2004-06-15

I have been using this camcorder little over than 1 year. This has great features especially optical and digital zoom. Never used EIS, MagicVu features but I am sure I will someday. Easy accessibility to the DV cassette (to remove and replace). Ergonomic features like zoom, record buttons. Blank search is really helpful. Memory card that comes with the cam is useless and also the pictures are not that good. Have to buy i.Link interface cable to transfer videos to Pc as its taking too long with USB cable. Battety life is less but you have to buy a spare one. Overall this camcorder is a good one and worth to buy than a Sony which has less features for the same price.

      5 out of 5 stars Why buy a siny.......2003-09-16

I got a good deal on this minidv. I got it from CompUSA for $199 it was a demo and their last model. I compared it to sony trv 19,22, jvc, canon zr series and optura 10. I like the way that the panasonic feels. It feels like consideration of was put into this camcorder as to how it would fit in the hand. The videos look absolutly great, colors are vibrant. The ZOOM MIC works really well and helps the sound too. It has MAGICVU whiich it their version of nightvision. It works wonderful. You can see at night. It is equal if not better than sony's nightvison. Only one problem. The MAGICVU button is on the side of the lense. I thought it was in a akward place.
There are a few accessories that are avaliable for it like, 2x telephoto lense $45, batteries from 75min 9.5 hours. I picked up a 75 min battery for $32 at walmart. The 9.5 hour battery is $95 at walmart and other online stores, additional lighting is avaliable and expensive from $69-$229. Since mine didn't have a charger, I picked that up at best buy for $49.99. The camcorder is awsome. I recommend it to everyone

      5 out of 5 stars Very New.......2003-06-20

Batteries, accessories and disks still hard to find. Product works well. Disk and card option neat for quick computer interface. Simple controls, PHd not rquired. Pricey but seems to have the bells to be worth it. Small DVD's a plus. Fast recording speed. No negatives.

3 out of 5 stars Upload to PC not quite what we hoped for.......2002-11-03

One of the reasons we bought this high-end model is that it promised the ability to upload movies as MPEG 4 into a coimputer and wde would be able to burn home movies on CDs and send them to relatives...

Alas, you can only upload 3 minutes of movie at a time!!! There are a myriad of other restrictions on this as well, which makes this less than we had hoiped fror. In retrospect, the 202 camera would have done the job

4 out of 5 stars Great feature set, sensibly priced, with a few caveats.......2002-09-25

I have used this model for a little over three months now, and find it a superb little gadget for home use. Within it's price bracket, it probably has the most balanced feature set of any of the competitors.

Build quality is acceptable, but certainly not up to rough usage. (On mine, the glued on microphone cover plate is starting to loosen due to exposure to damp). The swivel LCD is of sturdier construction than most.

Ergonomics are well thought out, with most buttons easily reachable and sufficiently sized for most hand sizes. The wheel control does require some dexterity to operate successfully - but this is not used during recording, so will not interfere with your results. The controls you need during "action" are conveniently located, and conducive to good results. Some familiarization with the zoom control is useful to make best use of the variable speed feature. The camera is lightweight and small enough to fit in your palm, but is not of the ultra-compact variety that becomes a pain to operate. Personally I find this to be an almost ideal size for a cam-corder for practical purposes. But I guess that depends on personal preference - and exactly who you wish to impress.

Video picture quality is excellent under ALL lighting conditions. And I do mean ALL lighting conditions. The zero luminance feature does work well, and will provide monochrome video even on the darkest most starless night - although the edges will not be as well lit as the centre of the picture. Daylight and lit room recording is superior to most other camcorders in this proce range, due to the better than average resolution of the CCD (see the specs page).

The included light attachment works well for frontal illumination and is sufficiently strong for most indoor use situations - it will even work well out of doors for distances up to 10-15 yards.

Despite the claims about interpolation, picture quality for still photography is not good enough, and compares favourably only to sub-megapixel dedicated stills cameras. (Which means, it's pretty unacceptable for most audiences). The pictures are grainy under all lighting conditions and zoom levels. If you wish to take acceptable still pictures, get a dedicated camera, or get the Sony DCRPC101, which seems to do a somewhat better job.

The 10X optical zoom is good but competitors offer better zoom levels, and this is vital if you expect acceptable picture quality at high zoom levels. Of course, the better than average CCD does make up for it to a certain extent, and you will find that picture quality is (for video) is good up to around 50X digital zoom. (Which is similar to models with better optical zoom capability and poorer CCDs). Beyond that level, the picture becomes very grainy, although it can still be useful for zany antics like reading fine print in phone books at 20 paces. Just don't expect it to look good on your TV screen when viewing such recordings.
The image stabilizer works reasonably well up to as much 200X zoom. Even more, if you don't have really shaky hands.
Sound quality is acceptable for making great home videos, but if you want to capture fine nuances of musical performances, don't even dream of trying to do it without a professional external mic. The built in mic produces an only slightly "tinny" sound, and with shielding can be surprisingly immune to wind noise. I have not found mechanical noise from the camera to interfere much with the recording - except under very demanding conditions.

The USB interface works well enough for transferring still pictures, but for transferring video to your PC you will want to make use of the firewire (IEEE1394) connection. The included transfer and editing software is rudimentary at best. You would be well advised to invest in some additional gear of your choice in this respect. (And believe me - the results can be very worthwhile, if you are prepared to spend some quality creative time with your software. Note: a capable PC or Mac is essential) I have used this on a wide variety of different PCs with different specifications. I have had few compatibility problems... although it failed entirely to work with one particular IEEE1394 card. This may happen, but such cards are low end quality - just get different one. I have not seen it failing with any notebook computers.

The 8Mb Memory card is sufficient and nice to have - you will need it for capturing the odd still. Anyone who is into capturing thousands of stills should not be using this camera anyway.

Battery lasts about 40 minutes with average use. Only about 25 minutes if you are using the light attachment. A second battery may make a good investment.

You may definitely wish to supplement and leverage your investment with some optional attachment lenses - to make up for the somewhat sub-par native optical zoom facility.

      In summary:

The camera has a few drawbacks as noted, but if you can live with those, you will have an excellent set of features, you will find that it can probably do most of the things you want to do home video-wise, and it will do those things at a quality that will frequently amaze your friends who opted for different brands!

          Product Description

The VL-Z7U Digital camcorder is a one-handed solution that features an integrated rotational pivot point in the center of the unit for ease-of-use and more comfort while recording. This unique body design leads to a smaller camcorder and allows total flexibility while recording. The VL-Z7U Digital camcorder incorporates CG Silicon LCD screen technology for a high-resolution image during playback and when framing subjects. CG Silicon LCD technology from Sharp is a new solution in size and resolution for high style digital applications. This model also includes a 1.33 Mega Pixel CCD and a flash with red eye reduction for XGA Still image capture, a zoom microphone terminal for recording audio at a distance with an optional microphone (VR-8MCN), and an earphone jack for monitoring audio as it is being recorded.

          Amazon.com Product Description

With a free angle range of 225 degrees, you can easily swivel the Sharp VL-Z7U to shoot from a high angle, low angle, or even back at yourself without straining your wrist. The VL-Z7U is also a well-equipped digital camcorder that features a 10x optical zoom, 2.5-inch LCD display, color viewfinder, and 1.33 megapixel CCD for high-quality digital stills.

          Image Stabilization
Sharp uses electric picture stabilization that keeps your images smooth and steady. Natural jerks and shaky holding will be smoothed over with this function turned on.

          Optics
The 1/4-inch CCD has 1,330,000 pixels for sharp and clear imaging. The 10x optical zoom is effective for most purposes, but if you need extra close shots the camcorder can zoom up to 500x digitally. For low-light situations, the camcorder can operate in slow shutter mode for slow-moving or stable objects and night lumi mode for bright objects at night.

          More Features
The VL-Z7U features a 2.5-inch color LCD and a color viewfinder. The LCD monitor incorporates new CG silicon technology to achieve high luminance and definition, making viewing easy even in broad daylight. The rechargeable battery snugly clips inside the frame of the camcorder, rather than outside like most other camcorders. This makes the camera less bulky and easier to carry.

The 1.33-megapixel CCD creates high-quality digital pictures, and the built-in flash fires when there is too little light. Images are stored on the included 8 MB Secure Digital memory card, but the camera is also compatible with MultiMedia Cards. You can easily import your stills onto a computer via the USB port. The standard IEEE1394 (Firewire) connection can be used for digital video editing, while the standard AV output terminal is used for viewing on TV or dubbing.

          MiniDV Format
MiniDV is the new preferred format for personal and broadcast-quality video, highly regarded for its high audio and image quality. With up to 540 lines of horizontal resolution and minimum color noise, MiniDV delivers a 20 percent clearer picture than analog camcorder formats. This is all delivered on a cassette that's 1/12th the size of a standard VHS tape. A MiniDV tape offers digital recording time of 2 full hours--20 times the capacity of a CD.

          Contents
This package includes the VL-Z7U camcorder, AC adapter, lithium-ion battery pack, infrared remote control, A/V-S cable, lens cap, USB cable, USB driver software, and 8 MB SD card.

4 out of 5 stars Great family camcorder.......2004-04-26

I teach video productions and I've tried many camcorders. I like the Sharp's ability to rotate the body of the camera with my hand and still be able to get good shots at various angles without putting my wrist in traction. The drawbacks I've found are the lack of an external mic input (which isn't usually a requirement for most family videos) and a small button to control tape playback. This is a problem with us fat thumbed people. I would recommend buying an additional battery since there isn't an external charger available. Other than that, I think the camera has excellent video quality and a nice compact body yet still large enough for larger hands to operate without problem.

          5 out of 5 stars Good Camcorder.......2003-12-26

This is the first camcorder I've owned, though not the first I've used. I'm very happy with my purchase. I think it has excellent video quality, much better than others in a comparable price range. It does have a compact battery (for a reason), and hence a shorter recording time. I have recorded for over an hour straight with one battery. But you can purchase extra batteries if necessary (I bought one on ebay for $20).
It has tons of features and options, more than I will probably use. The manual provided is extremely helpful in guiding you through the many features. I was recording within 10 minutes of opening the box.
I have read negative reviews regarding the on screen menus, the manual, still images; let me just say that I have not had any problems with any of those. I find the menu EASY to navigate. And the manual explains everything. I read it from front to back without ANY confusion. It does not have an index in the back, but it has a table of contents at the beginning if you'd rather just browse. I have not seen a CAMCORDER that has better still images than this one. I have seen better pictures from a digital CAMERA. I suspect some people may not have the patience, or interest, in learning how to utilize all of the features that may yield the best quality images. Or, perhaps they're just used to a different product.
Some of the most commonly used features like playback on TV, downloading to PC, editing, I think are easy to use and just plain fun!
Anyway, I must emphasize that the overall quality of this camcorder is great. Every product is different, we pick and choose. I use mine for recording life's little (and big) events.
If you're still comparing camcorders, be sure to consider this one.

2 out of 5 stars Great everything - EXCEPT video quality.......2003-12-19

I had high hopes about this camcorder. It was cute, lightweight, the 1.3Megapixel CCD and everything appeared to be great. But once I shot the video and reviewed it on my TV. ***TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT***. What can be more important than video quality? It just sucks big time. My old Panasonic VHS camcorder has better video quality. Also, the camera picked up extremely high motor noise when ambient sound level was low or silent. NOT a good design. I read several reaviews prior to buying to camcorder and I must agree that WAIT for the next revision. Video is extremely NOT SHARP!!!

3 out of 5 stars need spare battery???.......2003-08-09

just don't know where on earth to buy the spare battery????

1 out of 5 stars Only works with 95 and 98.......2003-11-01

This steaming turd doesn't work with anything above windows 98, a 5 year old operating system. I just wasted an evening finding this out. Why are they still selling this ?

3 out of 5 stars It might work for you..........2003-03-29

I have several computers at home and this card worked beautifully on my old Windows 98 machine. (Works with Linux too I hear) Along with FM, It's pulls AM stations and has support for RBDS/RDS (Radio Broadcasting Data System). Two features that are rare in the PC radio card underworld. Basically RBDS/RDS means that the card can interpret additional data that radio stations transmit along with their radio signals. So you are presented with the title and artist of a song that is currently playing. The card also allows you to sync your computer's clock to the time that the radio station has. This comes in handy as the card software will allow you to schedule up to 25 events for recording. So you can capture radio programs to your hard drive for later review. It's strictly a PC radio receiver card which is nice also since it doesn't need an IRQ.

              BUT...

You need a big hard drive to capture radio programs as the capture format is in WAV format only. Also the card is an ISA card which means that if your computer doesn't have a long black slot available inside ( in lieu of a short white one ) you can't use this. ISA slots are being phased out of the computer world. Also, I'm currently attempting to relocate this card on a Windows 2000 computer with some poor results. You see ADS tech does not fully support this card under Windows NT/2000. Although they do provide source code for an NT 4.0 device driver and a full programming interface (with documentation). How many people out there are really warm up to the idea of "building a monolithic device driver using the windows DDK"? (Heh! ..yeah ...Weehaa!)

I still think it might be possible to get it to work for Win2k but I haven't found anyone who's done it yet. I've heard that their tech support stinks but I haven't tried them yet so that's just a rumor at this point.

              1 out of 5 stars Doesn't Work with XP.......2003-01-06

Drivers don't appear to exist for Windows XP. Card doesn't work.

5 out of 5 stars Cadet PC radio.......2002-11-09

This is a great product and happens to be the only low cost, radio that I have found that receives both AM & FM. It also receives the digital station data transmitted from many stations.
The Windows interface incorporates a vcr like recoeding feature that allows you to schedule times for recoeding. Very COOL.
It doesn't even use an IRQ. YEAH!!!
I have not tried the Linux drivers/interface but I have found those to be as good or better than those found for the windows platform. I am still looking for a pci radio that receives AM & FM.
