The handset features a three-line backlit LCD for caller ID services and other operations. To use the LCD, we pressed the function button to access the menu. We used the arrow keys to scroll through the options and then pressed Select to choose a function. When a call comes in, the handset will display caller information including name, number, time of call, and total number of calls received. A displayed number can either be dialed or stored in the speed-dial memory. We found the keypad intuitive and the LCD easy to read. (A quick guide is also included with the handset for convenient reference to all basic phone operations.) A separate caller ID button allows you to see the total number of calls you have stored in caller ID log at any time. You can save up to 50 names and numbers.
You can store up to 10 numbers in speed-dial memory. To call a saved number, press the memory button and scroll through the LCD menu to find the number. Or, for two-touch dialing, just press memory button and the assigned speed-dial number.
The Toshiba SG1000 has an impressive static-free range. In our tests, we were able to take the phone 500 feet from the base before detecting any interference. We were able to hold a conversation for up to 1,000 feet from the base. We did notice a slight background humming even at close range, but it wasn't enough to be distracting. We were also able to take the phone behind walls and near other electronic equipment with minimal interference.
Other features include a handset locator button, redial, and adjustable volume and ringer controls. This phone is compatible with hearing aids. There is also a spare-battery compartment, which also functions as a backup during a power failure, in the base unit. --Emily Bakko

Regardless as to what anyone else says, this phone is great. My roommates would always leave it off the charger, and to this day I have never had battery problems. My only complaint is that it takes a little bit longer for the caller id to come up in comparision to other phones. Otherwise, this is a great phone that has consistently provided a clear connection for over a year now...

Beware - This phone was not abused and it only lasted 13 months. For the price paid, it should last longer than this. When it was working, the batteries did not last as long as in my other cordless phones. I noticed that another reviewer had the same problem with their Toshiba phone. I will not buy another Toshiba cordless phone.

I did a lot of research on 2.4 GHz phones before purchasing the SG1000BK. Only a few phones such as the SG1000BK are able to send and receive in 2.4 GHz. The Panasonic phones look nicer but they only receive in 2.4 GHz. The handset sends out in 900 MHz! If phone line security is a top priority, and it should be, be sure the phone you consider both sends and receives in 2.4 GHz. I've had the SG1000BK for several weeks now. It works flawlessly and I'm glad I bought it.
Worst phone I've ever used.......2000-12-27
The worst feature about this phone is the battery life. Within 2 months one battery didn't work and the second wouldn't charge for use more than 1 hour of talk time. At times it turns off by itself, although you can turn it back on--so it is not the battery. I would avoid purchasing this phone at all costs.

This is a really good phone for the price. The interface on how to actually use the features is a bit convoluted, but once you get the hang of it, it's fine.
There is some minor popping noises as you get farther from the base station, but I have found this to be the case with all 2.4 GHz phones.
Finally, the caller ID is slightly delayed in showing up, compared to a desk based phone, but not horrible.
Definitely worth the money.

Don't do it!.......2005-12-31
We bought this item in June. It worked fine on all our trips this summer. We put it away for a few months and pulled it out again for a December vacation. It was having a hard time reading the first disc we put in it. Then it just stopped working. I called Audiovox and was informed that the DVD player only has a 90 day warranty. To fix it will most likely cost as much as a new one and we have to pay all the shiping and handling costs. I wish that I had known that the warranty time was a short 90 days and that the life span of our DVD player was only six months. Buyer beware!

it needs an operation manual!! It took a while to figure things out. I shouldn't have to do this. Someone isn't doing their job. I own all kinds of electronic stuff and Sony seems to have the best product manuals. AudioVox needs to get a clue in this department. The manual seems to have been put together at the last moment and just as an after thought. The player seems to work good..and has a great picture

I have used the SLK1600 case on 10 custom machines and for the money, is far superior to any other mini-tower case I have used.
You rarely need that third large bay so room is not an issue.
I use an Arrow Power Supply rated at 550W. The main thing about this PS is that it is very quiet(120mm fan)but moves plenty of air. I use Thermaltakes Silent boost A1889-01 Processor fans and this combination works well in this small case with no case fans and the low profile but very hot operating Maxtor Hard drives.
5 of these computers have AMD XP-3200's processors. No heat problems and 2 of those are being used by mechanics in a repair shop in South Central Texas!! That's hot..
A good case but one mistake.......2003-04-30
Before this SLK1600 case, my computer got problem on modem. It always hang-up by itself. After I moved to this case, the problem is gone. This is probably because my old PSU provided unstable power or the case was too hot inside.
The only problem of SLK1600 is you cannot put a CDROM into the 3rd 5.25" space since the rear is too close to mainboard. If you want to fully use the 3 spaces, go with SLK2600 or SX630II. Other than that, this case is very good, very quiet (I don't know if Antec TruePower is really quieter than SmartPower), and PSU is powerful enough. Don't save 10 or 20 bucks on some cheaper cases. You'll regret.
One thing, you might need 2 fans for rear and front.
Great Inexpensive Case.......2003-04-18
Although it is not built to the "tank" standards that the higher end Antec cases it's certainly no cheapie by any stretch of the imagination. The 300W power supply rivals many rated at 400W and higher. Interior is just right for a mini ATX motherboard but really no more. I've built a few systems with this case and for systems without many additional drives it delivers great value.
A worthy case with hints on Antec quality.......2003-03-01
I've used many cases building for friends. Some cheap cases are band-aid dispensers: their sharp edges are just waiting to cut fingers. While this case may not be up to the standards of the more expensive Antec cases, for a vauleline case, its great.
**PROS**
Holds 8 drives in three drive cages. At the top it'll hold three 5.25" drives (such as CD-ROMs, DVD drives). In the middle it'll hold three 3.5" drives (i.e.: a floppy or Zip drive)of which, 2 are accessible to the outside. In the bottom cage, it will hold two 3.5" drives that aren't accessible (i.e.: Hard drives). Both the middle and bottom cages can be unscrewed and removed from the case which makes putting in drives that much easier.
Its very easy to mount a motherboard in the SLK1600, mostly because you can remove the drive cages first.
There are two spots for 80mm fans, one for a fan that bolts directly to the back of the case and the other is a holder in the front of the case. No fans are included however.
There are two front USB ports that one can use provided your motherboard had the necessary headers. Most newer boards will have them.
The 300W Antec SmartPower sounds like it may be too small, but its a quality power supply capable of providing power (280W with the 12V connector) at the level of many cheaper 400W supplies.
Easy to get into. There are two thumbscrews on the back. Once those are off, the top comes off and both sides simply lift off.
**CONS**
Its not the best looking case around (personal opinion).
Distinctly cheaper feel than the bigger (and more expensive) Antec cases
Power supply has only one fan. I would liked to have a power supply with a fan that draws air in from the case and exhausts it out the back.
Does not ship with a case fan. You'll have to buy at least one 80mm fan.

The Canon EOS D30 is one of the few available interchangeable-lens digital single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras. It's designed to offer the performance and picture quality of a film-based SLR with the convenience and features of a digital camera. Based on Canon's EOS line of film cameras, the D30 is compatible with all EOS-related equipment, including EF lenses and EX-series Speedlite flashes. This model is targeted at "prosumers" (serious consumers and some professionals), and its EOS compatibility makes it a natural choice for people who already own Canon equipment.
If you're accustomed to using a Canon SLR, the D30's features and controls will be familiar. As with film models, the shutter speed, aperture, and focus can all be set manually or automatically. White balance can also be adjusted, either by selecting a preset value or by shooting and storing a reference image. Unlike most digital cameras, the traditional optical viewfinder is the only way to frame your shots; the 1.8-inch LCD monitor on the back of the camera is for perusing images and adjusting settings only. One bonus of this arrangement is that the D30 is always ready to take pictures; you don't have to worry about changing modes as you must on most digital cameras.
The introduction of the D30 also marks the first use of a CMOS sensor in a multimegapixel digital camera. Because CMOS sensors are less expensive, use less power, and are easier to manufacture than the traditional CCD sensors found on most cameras, there are high hopes that CMOS will be the primary sensor technology for the super-high resolution digital cameras of tomorrow. Until now, however, CMOS sensors have offered inferior results when compared to CCD, so they've been found primarily in entry-level and toy digital cameras. Canon seems to have solved the image-quality problem by custom designing the CMOS chip in the D30, and the company claims that their sensor offers better performance than most CCD sensors.
Images are stored on Type I or Type II CompactFlash cards, including the IBM Microdrive. By default, files are recorded in JPEG format, though there are also settings for TIFF and RAW recording. TIFF is the most common lossless recording format, and TIFF images can be viewed and edited with virtually any photo editing software. TIFF files provide the highest-quality images, but at a price: a single D30 image occupies nearly 10 MB of memory. RAW, in contrast, is a newer format that's not recognized by as many photo-editing software packages, though Canon provides a plug-in to let Adobe Photoshop users directly import RAW files, and also includes software that lets you convert RAW files to TIFF files on your computer. Like TIFF, RAW is a lossless format, yet RAW files are only about one-third the size of TIFFs. Because the RAW image comes directly from the sensor and has received less in-camera processing than other file formats, it also offers experienced users more image-correction options.
A final note about the EOS D30. The CMOS sensor is smaller than a 35mm negative, which means that when you take a picture, the focal length of the lens you are using is greater. For example, if you took a picture using a lens with a 28mm focal length, the actual focal length would be 1.6x greater, or 45mm. If you're currently shooting with a Canon SLR, this makes your zoom lenses even more powerful, but it also means that you'll need to pick up a wide-angle lens or wide-angle converter to regain the range of focal lengths you have with film. --Michael Lewis and Shane Burnett

This camera was the best investment in my photography that I could have imagined. Without the cost and concern of film and processing, I was free to make as many photos as I wanted, and to adjust the settings to learn about the effect of such control. With my EOS lenses, my existing investment was prolonged. I have printed and posted much of my work, and the quality has met or exceeded local labs.
Excellent for Aspiring Intermediate Photographer.......2003-02-10
You need to take a lot of pictures to become a better photographer, and you need to learn from the pictures that you take. You get immediate feedback from this camera. I've owned mine now for over a year and I can see the vast improvement in my abilities. The biggest drawback is its slowness, and the second is that you have to multiply your lens by 1.6 to get the true focal length. But it takes all of the Canon lenses so I switch around between my film camera and this one. In all, I've been very happy with this camera and it has gone everywhere with me.
5000 pictures and I am still wanting another D-30 camera.......2002-11-26
I purchased a D-30 from Amazon last year and I previously had been using a Digital Nikon. The improvement was monumental in all aspects. I subsequently drowned my camera, and I am getting ready to repurchase another D30. They are not ready for water yet? I have taken approximately 5000 pictures and saved them all in the most usable format and I will continue to do the same. The Photoshop software that comes with the camera is very user friendly, I am sure there are many features yet to learn, but I have been extremely happy with what I have already used. I hesitate to say mastered.
Passion for pictures?.......2002-04-17
I recently moved into the prosumer level of digital. The Canon D30 has proven to be an awesome camera. There maybe better (D60), but if you are serious about digital, the D30 has to be one of the best cameras for the price. There is a slight lag between shots, but if you are not photographing speeding bullets and express trains, the time between shots is hardly a distraction.

A wonderful choice for advanced amateurs, especially those who already have EOS lenses and flashes. The resolution is high enough for any consumer application, and the firmware updates from Canon solve many earlier glitches.
