I have own two visioneer scanners, they work for a short period of time them start having trouble with them. Contacting Visioneer is a wate of time, they will try anything to get out of fxing your scanner, which is guarantee for ome year. I will not buy another one, and sugest that you do the same. HP makes a scanner that has a year guarantee and they will replace their scanner.

This scanner worked extremely well for about a year (interesting that's when the warrenty craps out). I then get the Lock error refered to above. It appears that the main bulb is burned out. I was acctually pertty impressed with there tech support. I got hold of a real person in less than 30 seconds. They offered to send be a new one If I could prove I bought it in the last year.

Crap, Crap, Crap!!!.......2005-10-21

There is no other way to put it. All Visioneers are garbage. Purchased my 2nd one (after first one died for no reason after a year) and have experienced many problems. Lately it won't let me scan anything because of an error saying to "unlock your scanner". There is no Freakin lock on the darn thing!!! After contacting the company many many times (btw - there customer service sucks! - No telephone number, unless u pay $2 per minute, just a computer-generated machine that unsuccessfully helps you called SARA). I finally put a claim in through the Better Busines Beaureau, there response was that they couldn't send me a new scanner cause it was after 1 year of my purchase, but they would be so kind enough as to let me purchase a new one and give me 25% off of their price (which was probably an elevated price). I told them to kiss off! Anyway - please don't buy this product or any Visioneer product - they Suck!

When it Works, It's Works; When it Dosen't............2005-09-30

I bought this scanner almost a year ago with a new computer. The person who installed it (someone who worked in a computer repair store for 10+ years), had a hard time getting it to work properly at first. When it was working, I was able to scan just about anyghing with no problem and decent quality. Color and B&W pictures came out decent, although the white tended to have a pale blue tinge to it. If used for B&W text, I had to increase the resolution in order to have unbroken italic writing.
My main problem is that I had kept getting a TWAIN device error which forced me to either restart the program, computer, or reinstall the software on several occasions. The last straw was yesterday when I reinstalled the software TWICE TO THE EXACT LETTER of the provided instructions, and the instrument refused to work AT ALL.

In conclusion, I suggest getting another scanner, like I'm going to do this weekend.

IT WOULD HAVE BE NICE IF IT HAD A ON AND OFF SWITCH, I THOUGHT THE ONE I ORDERED HAD ONE, WHEN I CALLED A CUSTOMER REP THEY TOLD ME THAT ONE DID, AND ONE DIDNT, I JUST HAPPENED TO GET THE ONE THAT DIDNT,IT IS VERY ANOYING TO HAVE THE LIGHT ON ALL NIGHT AND IN ORDER TO SHUT IT OFF I HAVE TO PULL THE SCANNER OUT OF THE SPOT IT IS ON MY COMPUTER DESK AND UNPLUG IT. ALSO, IT HAS TO BE ONE OF THE SLOWEST SCANNERS IVE EVER SEEN. I THINK IT WAS OVER PRICED AND THAT THEY MADE IT SOUND LIKE YOU WERE GETTING A GOOD DEAL, I JUST HOPE I GET MY REBATE BACK.

I have had this scanner for over a year now. It produces very good images, but it takes forever to do it! One interesting thing I found was that the scanner came with the old, Foto Snap software, insted of new acclaimed ScanWise software, so I thought I would download the new software and make it better and faster. Was I wrong! It took twise as long to scan a picture!

I would recommend this scanner to first time buyers who do not need speed. Otherwise, look at USB scanners with more user friendly software.

A Great Bargain for the Money!.......2000-07-06

I've had my scanner about 2 weeks and have found it very satisfactory for the uses I had intended. I was especially surprised at the good quality of the color copies, which I usually send as e-mails and don't copy (photos, magazine, clippings, etc.). The frustration some reviewers have felt is EASILY ELIMINATED if you BE SURE THE SCANNER IS TURNED ON WHEN YOU TURN ON THE COMPUTER! I had some fury with the computer saying the scanner wasn't turned on, too. A patient customer service person gave me the simple advice that has worked everytime - either leave the scanner on all the time OR just make sure that it's turned on and the 15 second test is complete before you turn on the computer. I love reading about other people's rage knowing there was such a SIMPLE solution!

Sending mine back.......2000-05-30

I had alot of trouble with my scanner and will be returning it. Probally will look for another brand. The installation and set up was real easy. After that I couldnt get it to work. Every time I tried to scan I got a message that the scanner was not plugged in or turned on. It was on! each time I'd click on "OK" the message kept coming back on. I found if i rebooted i could scan with out getting that message. Had to reboot everytime I tried to scan. Once I got past this, I always get a message that said "an unsuspected error has occurred. the application is unable to recover and will close. Contact vendor if problem persists". Well Idid just that and am sending the scanner back.

FIRST SCANNER.......2000-05-13

I JUST BOUGHT THIS SCANNER AND IT IS MY FIRST. I WAS NOT LOOKING FOR A $500 DOLLAR SCANNER AS IT WILL BE USED FOR HOME. I KNEW IT WOULD NOT BE THE TOP OF THE LINE. **I WAS IMPRESSED** THE SOFTWARE TOOK ME A WHOLE 15 MIN TO INSTALL AND THE SET UP WAS ABOUT 3 MINUTES. WITHIN 20 MINUTES I HAD MY FIRST SCAN AND IT WAS GREAT.

I SCANNED A PHOTO AND FROM START TO FINISH, IT TOOK APPROX 3MINUTES TO HAVE A PERFECT PICTURE ON MY SCREEN. I READ SOME OF THE OTHER REVIEWS AND I THINK THOSE PEOPLE THOUGHT THEY WERE GETTING A MILION DOLLAR SCANNER FOR UNDER $100 BUCKS. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY SCANNER FOR THE PRICE I PAID. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANY ONE WHO IS LOOKING FOR A FIRST TIME SCANNER WHO DOESN'T HAVE EXPECTATIONS OF A MILLION DOLLAR SCANNER........

Great Scanner.......2000-05-08

This is a great scanner, IF you are smart enough to run it. It produces good clear images, and is very simple to hook up and use. It is not a thousand dollar scanner, so obviously it is not going to scan like one, for the money it is probably one of the best scanners you can buy. I have not had any problems with mine, and the software is great. If your looking for a good quality, but affordable scanner this is it. If you dont like it spend an extra grand and get one thats even harder to run.
