Not Electrically Conductive: Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity.
(While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.)
Absolute Stability: Arctic Silver 5 will not separate, run, migrate, or bleed.
Performance: 3 to 12 degrees centigrade lower CPU full load core temperatures than standard thermal compounds or thermal pads when measured with a calibrated thermal diode imbedded in the CPU core.
Coverage Area: The 3.5 gram tube contains enough compound to cover at least 15 to 25 small CPU cores, or 6 to 10 large CPU cores, or 2 to 5 heat plates.
Important Reminder: Due to the unique shape and sizes of the particles in Arctic Silver 5's conductive matrix, it will take a up to 200 hours and several thermal cycles to achieve maximum particle to particle thermal conduction and for the heatsink to CPU interface to reach maximum conductivity. (This period will be longer in a system without a fan on the heatsink or with a low speed fan on the heatsink.) On systems measuring actual internal core temperatures via the CPU's internal diode, the measured temperature will often drop 2C to 5C over this "break-in" period. This break-in will occur during the normal use of the computer as long as the computer is turned off from time to time and the interface is allowed to cool to room temperature. Once the break-in is complete, the computer can be left on if desired.

I replaced the thermal gel on an old Athlon 1.2 Ghz CPU, noticed a few
degrees temp drop at idle and under load. When applying to 2 AMD 64 CPUs,
don't see any improvement. I guess the newer PCs are using better thermal
gels to begin with.

This thermal paste is great to mantain cpu temperatures low. I was averaging 50 C on an intel C2D ( yeah i know, hot country), then after putting a thermalright Ultra 120 + S-flex 120 mm fan and some AS 5, 35 C temperature, awseome!!!, also take into account that room temperature is 23- 28 C, GREAT!!!...
And finally get a well ventilated full tower case, trust me...

When i built my system i used the stock gel attached to my amd 64 heatsink.running at idle my computer recorded temps from 46-49 C and rising. At first i got a couple of case fans but still i had the same problem.According to amd these temps are normal but i heard of people with systems with much lower temps . i was afriad my system might shut down under heavy gaming.So i went out and bought AS 5 , i can tell you it is the best investment i made on my system. After removing my heatsink i removed the previous thermal gel compound and adding this , then i put my system back together and started up and .. Wow my idle temps dropped to 41 C and stayed there ,after playing half life for 15 minutes i found the temps only increased to 45 C.there is a break in period for the gel which is 200 hours, after that the gel is optimized and artic silver claims the temps will drop even more (4-12 C).It has solved my heat issue, for the cost under 10 dollars.I guess i don't need watercooling after all.Even if you arn't into gaming
this will protect your computer processor and help it run more effciently.

I am an average pc user. Computer (amd athlon xp 2100) was overheating with temp of 140 F + ...computer techs said "go with water go with heat pipes" do this do that, etc etc" I went with arctic silver instead, easy to apply, and average temp is between 105-110 F now..HUGE difference

I had to use this to clean the Artic silver off m north bridge heatsink because it was causing my P5W Dh deluxe to be unstable, probably has too much on or was probably touching the little capacitors or whatever there was below teh heat sink.

This two-part cleaning solution worked great. I had excess thermal gunk on my CPU from the stock fan and thermal transfer paste, but the first solution dissolved it. The second solution had a visible brightening effect on the copper.

Best Thermal Epoxy.......2004-05-19
Whenever I build a new system (like the dual Opteron server I just finished), I always reach for the arctic silver to help with heat CPU heat dissipation. I have read enough studies and reviews to know that artic silver is the best thermal epoxy available.
As a result, I've never had a processor shutdown because of thermal overload, even in less than optimal environments.
Although it barely nudges out the second best thermal epoxy, artic silver is still the best.

Then the compound thickens slightly over the next 100 to 300 hours of use to its final consistency designed for long-term stability.
