THE Point & Shoot Camera.......2000-08-13

How many times have you had a kodak moment while your Carl Zeiss'ed Contax is stowed away in the dehumidified lexan box up on the top shelf of your closet? Get a handy point & shoot? But which one? The answer is the Canon Sure Shot Owl (or Prima AF-8 as its known in my neck of the woods). Biggest reason going for it is the SLR sized viewfinder. No squinting down lil' itty-bitty eyeholes.Then there's the AF on a fixed lens. No zoom. A definite plus to save indecision and lens twiddling. Also it comes with 35mm fixed. The desert island lens for most photogs. Lastly quality optics from not the makers of baby bottles at a price which you don't mind if you left the camera at the beach. I love mine.

I find it pretty strange that no-one has bought or reviewed this camera. Well as the sole purchaser of the camera, I thought that it was pretty decent buy, though maybe it might be too expensive. This camera has all the basics, excluding a zoom function.

Date printing

Red-eye reduction

The larger and easier to use viewfinder

and a neat little dial which gives the option of manually choosing to turn the flash on or letting that process be automatic.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with this buy, though I have to admit, if it had a zoom function, I would have been extremely pleased, but as I'm no photo expert, this camera works for me!

Canon Sure Shot Owl PF Date.......2002-12-04

Purchased the camera at Sears on sale for [money]. Having read other people's reviews of this camera and other cameras that I own, I must be lucky or else I know what I'm doing. I've taken close up and landscape shots outdoors and I am very impressed with the sharpness of the 35mm/f3.8 all-glass lens on the OWL PF. I've had other cameras that cost more but the picture was not as sharp. I just do not have a problem with out-of-focus pictures. I think people stand too close to the subject they are photographing, hence a blurred picture and a washout from the flash. I use Fujifilm Superia 400, which I like because it has fine grain for 400 speed film. However, I have used the flash to a certain degree, I took a picture of some objects as well as people indoors at close range, 3-4 feet away and the flash did NOT wash out the picture. It has a simple autofocus system in it and I have found that it works just fine. I don't know how much abuse it would take, but for a "bang around" point and shoot camera I think this is worth the money. I particularly like the large viewfinder. I wear glasses at times and have no trouble taking pictures with this camera. Also, it has midroll rewind which is nice because I'm not one to "finish out a roll."

Strengths:

Weaknesses:
-- Only accepts ISO 100, 200, 400 film.

Do not get this camera!

I have been a loyal canon fan for a long time. I bought this camera to replace my previous SureShot that had been reliable for ten years. My hopes were high, but I had this camera for only three months before it broke. During the three months it was working, I was disappointed over and over by the SUPER OWL flash which was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bright it completely washed out my pictures. The auto focus was unreliable. And now the camera has stopped working altogether: it complains that it needs new battery, but does not respond to replacement batteries.

The quality of this camera fell far below my expectations.
I would warn anyone away from buying it =(

Good for Wildlife Photography.......2001-09-05

These cameras are really good for nighttime wildlife photography, if you can solder in a connection to a motion detector. They are quite useful for this purpose.

Excellent Scaner/Printer/Copier.......2003-09-28

My Family enjoys the speed and versatility of the A3000. I see other customers have complained about the scanner, but I has been a life saver for us. It can scan textbook pages as images or into Character recognition software for easy implementation into Word processors. Scanned images are saved to a folder you specify as jpeg format images. (You do have to run the A3000 utlity or ABBY when scanning - others may not have known this).
It prints faster and quieter than our HP890 inkjet. It takes Lexmark ink cartridges, which are widely available. The A3000 footprint is small and fits on a roller shelf under my desk. HP does have a download site for the driver, but has limited support since they bought Compaq and the printer doesnt use HP cartridges. But this was a well designed product and after nearly 2 years of service we use it almost daily and it still works and acts like new.

Scanner Compaq A3000 all in one.......2003-03-12

I bought this Compaq A3000 at a local store and ever since I got it the printer and copier work fine but the scanner does not work and hasn't work since I got it. I think they gave me the wrong disk for it. I have a new Compaq Presario 6000 Windows XP. Could please advise me what to do to get this to work. I have emailed and called the Compaq Service and still do not get it to work.

Good product........2007-07-11

First of all I would like to say something: Amazon is an international online superstore (Earth biggest selection), I hope Amazon agree with me on this, so the point is, why do you expect to find products designed for the states only?

The item part number is [LE1200I] I for international if you want the US version go for [LE1200].

Please allow me to give you an advice:
"You should always check with the manufacturer web site first before buying and pick the product you want, write down the exact part number and then see if you can find it at Amazon."

Anyway, The APC LE1200I is a very good product, it protects you from under-voltage, over-voltage, black-outs, brown-outs, surges, spikes and provides EMI/RFI noise filtration. The product accepts 200V-250V and can output 220V, 230V and 240V (selectable).
It's continues power output is 1,200 VA, it can stand up to 5.2 Amp at rated voltage. There are front leds to indicate voltage condition (Low - Correct - High) and there is a master on/off switch. Also there is an auto thermal push fuse, so if you overload the unit it will just pop out the button and then you can press it back in after it cools down.

The down part is: At the time I purchased this unit I couldn't find line conditioners from APC which provide more than 1200 VA. By today's terms this is low power for a sound system, PC, power amplifier, etc. I wish they would make 2K VA and more.

Second, unlike the older model [APC LE1250/APC LE1250I] which was housed in a metal case, this new model is housed in a plastic case, it does get hot to the touch if you work it 24/7, I use it in a temperature controlled room so I don't suffer much from the heat problem but for 2 days my AC unit was broken and by the end of those 2 days the APC unit was hot. However, the heat problem didn't cause any problems so far (using it for more than a year).

The unit power cord ends with a IEC 7 side-ground male plug and provides 4 outlets, but another down side is that the 4 jacks are not standard, they only accept that kind of plug which was used before with power supplies when we used to connect the monitor directly to the PSU unit, if you know what I mean or remember how that male plug looks like then you know what I mean. I'm sorry if I couldn't explain. However APC makes up for this by providing two of those plugs but they can only be connected to a PSU!.

Well, all in all it's a good product and does the job right. If you don't require more than 1,200 VA, can cope with the heat problem and know how to work around the 4 non-standard jacks then this is the unit for you.

I got one a year ago and going to buy another one and use them in parallel because I upgraded my sound system and now I require more power.

Ritz Camera is selling goods that don't work in US........2007-05-17

The unit shipped minus the power cord, The unit does not have standard plugs on the back so you can't plug in normal electronics item into it. The voltage of the unit is for 220v and higher, RE you can't use it in the United States. I call Ritz and asked for a refund they said yes then sent me an email saying they won't take it back. I replied to the email and explained the unit was unusable in the United States. They still refuse. The vendor is selling unusable goods that they won't refund and they know it. Shame on Ritz!

I ordered this unit and while preparing to set it up I noticed that there is a switch on the back to set the "input voltage" for the unit. None of the choices matched the voltage in the USA so I contacted APC to find out what gives. APC replied that the Line-R units with model numbers ending in "I" were international models that weren't meant to be used in the USA and that I should return the unit for a refund (which I did).

I recently purchased a hewlett packard 1315 printer that produces4x6,5x7,&8x10 prints.however,Ihave picture frames that are 3x3 and can,t used even the zoom on the printer to fit.Do you know of any printers that can digitally print a 3x3 photo? I make a lot of my own greeting cards and I always had the problem of not being able to print to the edge. Now the problem is solved. It also helps when your greeting card program is not quite compatible with your printer. You can print over onto the perforations a little and still have a perfect card.

I have only two minor complaints.

1. The card stock is not quite as heavy I would prefer, especially if using a lot of photos. Still, if you play with your printer settings a little you can do quite well.

2. It is a little difficult to see and tear the card at the perforations. After tearing, there were a lot of jagged edges which you had to smooth.

Overall, it is a great product and the results are worth the minor difficulties.

i bought the pci 300 avermedia product just wanted to say that the same day we put it in it worked just fine. then is noticed that the remote was getting very hot and checked the battries and there was a short in the remote and it burned up the batteries. needless to say that i put other batteries in and they got so hot that it took the juice right out of them. right frome the getgo the dam thing didn't work so pissed that i threw the remote out. other than that it works fine even with xp. so don't be stupid like me just take the thing back and get another one

It does what it says it will for a reasonable price. According to AverMedia tech support, it only captures with NeoDVD, which is lacking in many options, like lightening the input. Windows Movie Maker 2 on XP Pro works, but captures in low res-only. Nero won't work at all.

NeoDVD files are MPG2, but are pretty large still. The TV tuner works, but the audio is poor when playing back a recording.
