Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars best mp3 I have bought yet.......2007-08-07

To be honest the only problem I have with this product is the fact that it does not play video, but other than that i give it an easy 5 stars! easy to navigate, lots of personalisation options and cool features.

4 out of 5 stars Great MP3 Player.......2007-07-02

I bought mine last year and I'm just getting around to writing my review. I love it. It's a great unit and for a good price. Creative MP3's (I had a Zen Micro before this on) upload twice as fast as my son's Ipod, and I have had no problems at all with my Creative MP3 freezing up like the Ipods do. With that said... Creative could do a better job with their power cords and accessories. The power cord is kind of funky and accessories are very limited.

5 out of 5 stars Great little device for a great little price.......2007-07-01

I'm no hard core user, so for me, this is the perfect device. I have about 2000 songs on it so far and it has been working perfectly. It freezes up every once in a while but the reset button takes care of that. Some folks are putting a bad review on this and I don't think that is fair. It's an inexpensive player, what do you expect? It's no Ipod, but I'd still take this over an Ipod any day. I've had it for about a year now. I haven't had any complaints worth mentioning.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good actually....maybe.......2007-06-18

I've had this Zen for almost a year (i got it last August) and it's been working pretty well seeing that I've dropped it way to many times to count. Since this is the only brand I've ever bought a decent mp3 player from I can't compare it to any Ipod but my friends. I definiately think its better.

You can download songs from more than one device (as said in many reviews before, but I'm reassuring you), seeing that I loan the thing to friends and they put whatever they think I'd like on it and they all have different players(thanx guys). The screen is really great. The colours show up very well in the pictures. I don't like that you can't see your album art at the same time a song is playing. It has to be a picture. And you can't listen to music while viewing pictures either, but hey thats okay. And I've never really mastered the art of making a slide show, but I don't really need one.

The alluminum back and sides get scratched up pretty bad it you drop it onto concrete or asphalt and the screen gets scratched up pretty easily if you don't have a cover on it, but it's still in pretty good shape for me being a klutz and letting my friends borrow it. The buttons still work fine and everything and the touchpad still picks up. The cool thing(in my opinion) is that you have to use your finger on the touch pad, you can't use a pencil or anything but your finger, which is cool cuz it has to sense that its a finger.

I have over 2000 songs on this thing and over 300 pictures and its barely dented to memory which is awesome. It has like 17 GB left which rocks. It really does hold alot. But it's realy stupid how when you get a brand new mp3 and you plug it in and it has like 19.75 GB and it's completely empty though the thing is supposed to have 20 GB.

The sound on it's fine, but I can complain. Since I go through headphones really fast(I break them so easily) I constantly have to take the headphones out of the jack hole(hehe jack-hole) thingy which made the little plastic thing that's in the hole that holds the headphones in place and presses down so the headphones connect to the player get loose and break out. So everytime I take the headphones out that piece comes with it and I have to make sure I don't lose it and always put it back or the sound sounds like crap (it won't play on the right side and it sounds far off and distant). Because that little thingy(I don't know what to call it) is loose that sound quality is much worse even with it in there. The headphones don't connect as well so it sounds a lot more far off and distant.

A friend used to have one of the dell mp3's and it weighed about the same as the Zen and was thicker. Compared to an ipod the zen weighes a lot more and if ur not used to it, it can get tiring. And it's so heavy that it slides off things easily and drops heavily to the ground. I'm suprised mine hasn't broken yet.

As with most things as they get older they don't work as well, the battery life on the zen drops greatly as it ages a little bit. I can listen to the thing for at the most seven hours now when I could listen to it forever without the battery even moving when I first got it. And now I'm having problems with it charging. It won't charge at all unless the battery is completely dead and it won't charge all the way up which sucks because I listen it this thing a lot.I don't know if thats normal or if its a defect.

I would reccomend this to somebody if they took care of the thing and didn't do stupid things with it(who knows what my friends did to it). I'm sure it would last ages if you actually took care of the thing and charged it at the right times and everything.

Don't get this if you donn't want to have to take care of it. Or do and just watch the thing lose its life.

Get it if you want a cheap 20 GB Photo mp3 player that you might have a few little problems with but nothing so bad you have to take it back.

Live with it and enjoy the ZEN.

4 out of 5 stars Creative's User Interface.......2007-05-21

I find it interesting that folks spend so much time knocking the Creative UI, and pile the usual 'whoppies' on Apple for it UI. I find it interesting because Apple had to settle suit with Creative over patent infringement; the issue - the iPod menu is based on the Creative menu. Apple went to Creative to co-develop the iPod, Creative said NO (somebody at Creative must have suck on a bullet for that decision), so Apple 'borrowed' the UI.

So, if you want to beat-up on Creative and tell everyone about how great the Ipod is - please find a new angle, NOT the UI (menu) and NOT the Touch Strip. Honest iPod folk will tell you that controlling the touch ring is just as "Hit & Miss", as controlling the Touch Strip is.

I'll also note that "professional" review/ers have made a significant mistake in judging Digital Audio Player products. All players should receive two scores; the first for the player by itself, the second as a system, meaning hardware plus software. The simple reality is, that currently - no one is prepared to match the iPod 'experience', so when it comes to the system - the Pods have the lead, and everyone else is playing catch-up. Note: the 'pros" seem to like the Sansa e200R (NOTE: R seies) system series a lot. When it comes to hardware ONLY, there are several players that can best the Pods, including Creative, Sansa, and Toshiba. And if you are into OGG and/or FLAC you have to go elsewhere, as none of these four companies service these Codecs.

And to all a good night...

2 out of 5 stars Okay mp3 player.......2007-05-27

This mp3 player is okay. There are more con's then pro's but it still manages to be an alright media player.

cons

1.Battery life is really bad (It usually last about 1 1/2 hours at the most)
2.Freezes up more then it should
3.Outdated model (can't buy accessories for i from creative anymore)
4.Its really compared to other mp3 players
5.Can only hold about 5,000 mp3 files
6.Creative says the battery can last about 19 hours on a full charge mine last about 1 1/2 hours
7.only a 90 day warranty(if you buy it new)

Pro's

1.Can use more then one program(unlike ipods)
2.You can change the color theme
3.good audio quality
4.Doesn't cost alot of money for a mp3 player that can hold pictures and music

If you really want to get a better mp3 player get the creative zen V:plus
holds short video clips, music, photos all for about $185(8 gig)

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY!!!.......2007-05-12

We purchased this MP3 player and before a year was up we had problems with it. Sent it in to the manufacturer for repair (cost $25). It worked for less than 30 days after repair. Before we had any problems we recommended this product to a friend. They bought an identical item, and it lasted less than 6 months before it stopped working.

3 out of 5 stars Was good while it lasted.......2007-04-10

At first when I purchased this item, I was one of the main ones stating what a gem this was and how i loved this gadget but that has changed. My player has gone capoeee. The sound is literally gone, all i get is an echo and a faint sound of the music but the lyrics are gone. i have tried troubleshooting it and doing all Creative Labs recommended but to no avail.

4 out of 5 stars Better than an iPod but..........2007-04-06

I really wish it would display the album art when it plays the music. Otherwise, it fulfilled everything else I wanted. It was inexpensive, small, good capacity, shuffles quickly, good randomization and sounds great.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Alternative to iPod.......2007-02-15

Though iPods seem to be the most popular MP3 Player around, the Creative Zen Sleek Photo is, I think, far bettter. I was given one as a Christmas gift and absolutely love it. Despite the lack of accessories, it can be personalized greatly. There are many photos that come with it, all of which can be used as the background wallpaper for your Creative Zen. I've downloaded many songs and podcasts onto my Zen with ease. The only thing I dislike about it is that you cannot look at pictures while listening to music, but that is not a big deal at all. It froze once, but was fixed as soon as I pressed the reset button. I really do love this product and suggest that you buy one if you are looking for a wonderful alternative to and iPod.

3 out of 5 stars Good But Could Be Better.......2007-01-11

I bought this after my Zen Micro filled up. I liked it for the most part....Until it froze on me and I didn't have a phillips small enough to get the casing off so I could pull the batteries. My Micro just has a slide panel in back that makes it easy to pull the batteries. I've since misplaced or had the unit stolen so I don't know if it will even be any good if I do find it. In general I like Creative and will stick with that brand the next time around....Only not this design.

1 out of 5 stars Great Sound, Impossibly Sensitive Touch-Pad.......2007-01-10

This machine has fantastic sound. However, you navigate w/ a touch-pad that is so sensitive that I found it unusable. I really wanted it to work because the sound quality is remarkable. However, it was nerve-rackingly frustrating to try to navigate with this device. I can not believe that this product actually got tested by technicians and made it out of the research lab. Unless you have the dexterity of the finest surgeon, buyer beware. I sold mine on Ebay, lost alot of money. I now have the Toshiba Gigabeat ME30S 30 GB multimedia player. The sound is nowhere near as good as the Zen Sleek, but it is so user friendly that I am satisfied. At least I can use the darn thing.

5 out of 5 stars amazing audio player.......2006-12-08

I would advise anybody to buy a creative labs audio player. I've had no problems with my zen sleek and I have about 3,500 songs sync'd to it. You have to remember that it's a harddrive type mp3 player. If you're not tech inclined you probably won't understand how to work and maintain this player. If you drop your personal harddrive computer at home it will not operate anymore, hence, if you drop your harddrive zen sleek it won't work anymore. If you buy this item and take care of it and have the know how's of a computer you will enjoy a great piece of audio work.

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT EVER BUY THIS PRODUCT!.......2006-11-17

While Zen may be a trancendental state of mind, this ZEN will put you in a less enlightened frame of mind if you buy it. I did and now have lived to regret it.
The unit frequently freezes and can be reset with a paperclip. Then it for some wonderful reason, it deletes a part or all of a song(s) when you do. The battery life is pitiful, even with the backlight and extras turned off.
Forget about downloading firmware or software and getting it to install correctly. It won't and you have to do the paperclip thing again.
The control buttons are exceptionally sensitive, even when set to low sensitivity, so you can zip right past what you want to do almost by dropping an eyelash on it.
Now, my unit won't power on after being charged. Customer service tells me that after only 5 months of owning it, that the battery needs to be replaced. Of course I have to pay $25.00 for the diagnostic testing and then $122 for the battery AND I get to pay for the shipping both ways.
Customer service questions can be answered by phone after the first 60 days at $12.95 per call and customer service emails will wind up in Singapore or Ireland and will take several days between emails. The Creative Lab site says it is usually only one day to get an answer. I am now on my second email to them and have lost most of a week.
Save your money and do not buy this product. You will probably live to regret it, sooner or later. I am shopping for a new player and hoping I can find one that won't let me down the way this one did.

UPDATE 12/12/06***Original review was written in November 2006.

I sent my defective device into Creative Labs after receiving a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA). After emailing the company with the warranty information, I had to send the device in with a $25.00 check. The check was to cover diagnostic work and return. Creative promised a 10 business day turn around on the device. The battery replacement was covered under warranty.
I did not get my old device back, instead, I received a factory refurbished one. I could tell that it had been used because of the minor scratches on the case.
When I tried to connect the player, I could not get my computer to read it, with Windows Media Player 11 or the Creative Labs software. I uninstalled the Creative Software and reinstalled it and it would not work. I went to the help tutorials and after much searching I discovered the device needed updated drivers and firmware.
Now, this is just my opinion, but it seems logical that a newly refurbished device would have come with updated firmware and a note telling me I needed new drivers. I did get a note saying that with my new to me device that Creative would keep it under warranty for the remaining period on the old device. I think that the new to me device should be given the 1 year warranty effective from when I got it. I see this item is no longer available for sale. Perhaps with good reason. I will never buy another Creative device regardless of what it is, my experience with them has been so poor. Caveat Emptor! Buyer beware!

1 out of 5 stars Lasted 3 Days.......2006-08-04

I loaded 16 gigs of my music and listened for 3 days before it completely died. It gave me an error message, and then went to a black screen. It will not charge. It will not play. But it looks cool on my desk. I took it back and won't get another.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Decent monitor........2006-10-18

I have had this monitor for few years now. The color is still crisp and clear.

However, recently the vga cable has started giving out. CRT monitor is still good but cable needs repair. I have to position the cable just right for clear crisp image, otherwise it turns yellowish. That is my only problem with this model.

5 out of 5 stars Great Monitor, Great Value.......2006-06-25

I've had my monitor now for a little over 2 years. It's as excellent as the day I got it. Crystal clear picture and the flatscreen is fantastic. Easily worth whatever the market rate currently is. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Cheap, Sharp and Reliable.......2004-11-26

After seeing the first 775e that I got in (just because it was cheap), I was very impressed with the sharpness. I have a Mac with a dual-monitor setup (one of the few benefits of owning a Mac, IMHO), and when the 775e was side by side with my old Apple monitor, the difference was astounding. Later, a Nokia replaced the Apple monitor and the difference was not as apparent, but the 775e still had a definite edge.

Since that time (almost two years later), I've acquired 2-3 dozen more 775e's for myself, my office and other people on my island. So far, none have been DOA and none have died in use (except one that got rained on when a typhoon blew away my roof).

After reading the other reviews, the only "neg" comment that I've found to be true is that sometimes it's tough (or impossible) to get the the edges of the display area perfectly horizontal/vertical/straight. But because this isn't a big deal for me or my buyers, I'm still giving it five stars because of the sharpness and low price.

5 out of 5 stars I have had this monitor for over two years with no prolems........2004-07-30

I have had this monitor for over two years with no problems, I also have an Envision LCD TV which I use at home, it is simply awsome, and both are working perfectly and to my expectations. The remote for the LCD TV actually stopped working, and I e-mailed Envision, they shipped me out a new remote, no questions asked at no charge. The LCD is over two years old, I offered to pay for the remote, and the shipping and was told not to worry about it. It is one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had. TO THOSE OF YOU HAVEING PROBLEMS WITH THIS MONITOR I SUGGEST YOU CALL ENVISION, I AM CONFIDENT THEY WILL TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM AND MAKE IT RIGHT.

2 out of 5 stars In the long run, you will be sorry if you buy this monitor........2004-06-18

The cliche "you get what you pay for" certainly applies here.

I got this monitor (...)in August 2002, and have been using it daily ever since. At the time of this review, my Envision monitor is not even 2 years old yet.

When I first bought this monitor, it was pretty clear and sharp. After about a year of use, the text started to get REALLY blurry and unreadable, especially when viewing websites with a white background, like Amazon.com.
However, on websites with a black or blue background, the text is still sharp. The most obvious explanation is that the monitor experiences too much distortion while switching from white to any other color.

This problem seems to be common among cheap CRT monitors. I have another 15" compaq monitor, and it uses the same "shadow mask" technology, and its sharpness has deteriorated over the years. My Sony Trinitron monitor, with "aperture grille" technology, still remains sharp and clear after 4 years. However, the Sony cost 4x as much as this monitor.

This monitor still remains useful for watching movies and playing games, where sharp detail is not really necessary. However, if you are going to be doing a lot of reading, stay away from this.
