Great Little Machine!.......2007-07-20

As I read other reviews, I have to wonder if we're talking about the same machine?!?

I bought this in 2004, and printed over 25- 8.5x11's and 100- 4x6's... and have only had to replace the black & light magenta cartridges! Why can I get so much from the ink that came with the machine- and others are complaining about it "drinking ink"? That's $20 for two ink cartridges plus the cost of photo paper- still MUCH cheaper than having someone else print them by far.

I only use the printer for printing photos (which is what it's for)- and don't use the CD print tray. I guess maybe the fact that I only use it for photo printing and not text- is why I've gotten by with only having to replace two cartridges. I also use only Epson Premium Glossy photo paper- yes it's more expensive but the quality is awesome. Apparently it has something to do with how the paper absorbs the Epson ink- which is why other photo paper doesn't work as well- and why generic ink also doesn't offer the same quality.

Epson was sued over programming their printers to show 'out of ink' when the cartridge wasn't completely empty. I'm sure since that lawsuit, they will be working to improve their accountability.

Being a photographer, Epson has been highly recommended in photographic circles. After having seen the pictures that came off this inexpensive printer, I can understand why.

A TERRIFIC PRINTER FOR ALL USES.......2007-07-17

I have had this printer for 2-1/2 years now. It has never broken down, and I print tons and tons of items, from brochures, to pictures (lots of pictures) regular documents, and CDs, as I am a recording artist. Some people say it uses a lot of ink. No, it uses a lot of very small ink cartridges, and if you're smart, you buy them in bulk on line and I have found the cartridges for $2.20 each. The cartridges are small and there are 6 individual cartridges, so when it is finished with one color, you only replace that color. It seems like it guzzles ink, because it has small cartridges. It uses far less ink than any printer I've ever had, and I have never had a bad printing. It has slightly jammed when I over stuffed paper, but it has printed on everything. When I am patient and remember that it is a machine that needs to be maintained, I get fantastic results.

I simply can't say enough good things about this product. I am buying several of these as gifts for my family because they all hate their printers and have to spend upwards of $35-$55 for the big combination color ink cartridges. I buy my ink in bulk, and like I said, I get the cartridges for about $2.20 each. Who can complain about that? When I print a ton of things, I change them about once a week for each color, and of course I change the black 2 or 3 times. However, if it's only $2 per little cartridge, what's a better deal than that? Plus, if you take your empties and send them back to the company, they give you an extra 25 cents off each cartridge.

Those of you who are complaining, I simply am amazed that you don't love your printer as much as I do. It is a great product.

Problems with CD label printing.......2007-05-18

This printer does a nice job of printing CD labels when it works. The problem is it takes multiple attempts to get it to print such a label, burning lots of time. More often than not, it will report an error, stating that the CD tray table is down, when attempting to print the label. One has to cancel the print job, and start the process over.

On other occasions, the printer appears to go through some type of initialization process that moves the CD tray away from the printer, and thus miss aligns the marks on the tray with those on the tray table. The printer then fails to detect the CD tray, and reports the CD tray table is down and should be up. I didn't see these problem during the printing of the first 100 or so CDs.

It's been acting the way describe above for about a year, and I'm finally to the point where I can't take this anymore. It's burning way to much of my time. Attempts at getting help from Epson's online printer support department, concerning the above issues, have been a failure. If you only plan to print at most 100 CDs over the life of the printer, then this printer should do the job. Otherwise, I'd avoid the R200.

CD/DVD printing.......2007-04-20

I bought one of these when they first came out a few years back and I am still using it today. To date it has printed over 300 CD's that I use for work. Yes it goes through ink quickly and it's best to stick with the more expensive epson ink. After market ink cartridges just don't work well with this printer. Ink consumption seems to be an issue with every printer in existence due to the high prices that the manufacturers charge. This is how they can afford to sell their printers at such a low price, they make it up on the back end through ink sales. Epson is no different in that regard and I don't believe this printer goes through any more ink than any other brand of ink jet printer I have owned. Printers are like cars, you have to find one that will work for your application, in my case I wanted high quality CD/DVD printing capability and I got exactly what I wanted in the Epson R200. I use the printer regularly and have never experienced a clog, I have however experienced ink blobs on my projects and occasionally find it necessary to clean the machine. This does not seem like anything more than routine maintenance to me. The most important thing to remember about this printer is that during the startup routine this printer will go through a series of noisy gyrations. One of the things the printer is doing during startup is a nozzel check. The best thing you can do for your printer is to stop and start it every day. This will prevent clogs and Epson recommends that you DO NOT leave it on as much of the nozzel clearing activities happen in startup. I have followed their advice and have never had to deal with a clog. It works for my application and I'd buy another one. I'd rate this a four because of the extra high cost of genuine epson ink cartridges wich you really need to make this machine perform correctly. The ink is considerably more expensive than most other brands, the best deal I've ever had is $65.00 for a full set I bought on ebay. Expect to pay somewhere between $75.00 to $90.00 for a full set at your local office supply store.

Don't buy this printer for basic office work.......2007-04-18

This printer drinks ink like it's going out of style. I have to buy new black cartridges for it every single week and a full set of new color cartridges about every two weeks, despite the fact that all that I do 99 percent of the time is print black and white text documents. Economy grade is just light enough to be illegible; thus, one has to print using regular grade for every print job. Even when set to print using black and white only, the printer will refuse to print if any of the color ink cartridges are empty. Usually when a cartridge is "empty," one can still hear ink sloshing around in it. I know that I don't just have a faulty model; my parents own the same printer and the behavior is exactly the same. This is also a very noisy printer.

For far less money, these imitation units seem to perform exactly the same. I have not seen any error codes/warnings/etc from the printer. The images seem to look about as good as they did with the original OEM cartridges. I plan to order another set when this one runs out. THANKS!

Ink Cartriges.......2007-07-21

For the most part the ink cartriges are of good quality. Out of 2 batches from this company I have only had one leak which is not good. Luckily I caught it in time before it had a chance to damage my printer. I would certainly be very careful especially if you have a high end printer. Other than that if you are looking for a cheaper alternative feel comfortable about these products.

Well worth the price.......2007-04-16

The order was processed quickly and the product performs as expected. The cartridges differed slightly from the original Epson ones but they fit. You get a message on the printer warning that it is NOT a genuine Epson cartridge but go ahead and complete the installation. The printer will show a new full tank for all the replaced cartridges when done. I've printed about 5 5x7 prints so far and all came out with no noticeable difference from original Epson cartridges. Of course, the test will be how long these last, but for the price that's less then a third, it's a good bargain.

Good service and procuct.......2007-09-23

My usual supplier of compatible inks had changed it's pricing/packaging schemes and I could not get what I had been getting at the same prices. I looked here and the prices looked good. I ordered one full set and an extra black. They arrived as promised and so far have performed well.
Note that I do not print photos on this printer, so I cannot vouch for that kind of result. About 99% of what I print is text or simple graphics that do not require color accuracy. The few times that I have printed photos on paper, they have been a little dark; as they had been with my previous supplier. This may be a result of the type/brand of paper I use also, so I can make no meaningful comment on photo reproduction.

I have not yet tried to use these inks printing high quality photos on glossy paper, but for everything else these have worked just as well as the expensive "official" inks from Epson. It even looks great on printable DVDs.

So Far, So Good.......2007-03-10

Ink seems fine and fits perfectly in our printer, an Epson Stylus Photo R340. The only drawback is the printer asks you if you want to proceed, as it is not Epson ink. For what you save, it is worth pressing the button and moving on.

Great price, Good Ink.......2007-08-21

Im more than happy with my purchase. I mainly only print web pages and the occasional picture so I really dont want to spend $100's on replacement ink for my Epson printer. I was relieved to find generic ink for a fraction of the cost of the Epson premium ink. The cartridges installed easily and was recognized by my printer. The quality is fine for me, my only issue is on every printed page I get an ink smudge on the lower right hand corner of the page. I tried cleaning the printer heads but to no avail. I dont recall that happening with my last cartridges but its a minor issue and may correct itself in time. Other than that im veryy happy with my purchase and the seller Abacus24-7 couldnt have been any better.

Printer ink clogs.......2007-09-07

This ink clogged my new Epson printer, to the point where I had to clean the print heads between 6-10 times every time I wanted to print. It wouldn't even print 3 continuous pages before clogging up again. (It was not a printer problem, Epson ink unclogged the heads, and it works great now.) In addition, I contacted the seller about the issue, and got no response.

Want to like these cartridges, but not sure about the ink quality.......2007-09-14

The good: the colors seem to closely match genuine Epson ink colors, the ink dries quickly, and the photos look terrific. This bundle includes five complete sets of six cartridges, for less than the price of one complete set of genuine Epson cartridges.

The bad: There have been several instances of clogged nozzles recently, and I don't know whether they're due to the ink in these cartridges or to something else. The printer's 3 years old, and before starting to use these cartridges, there were only a couple of instances of clogging, and those were in just one cartridge at a time, and easily cleaned. For the past year, I've been using a different brand of 3rd-party cartridges, and there was no more clogging with them than with original Epson cartridges.

On the other hand, the printer isn't being used as much as before, so maybe some of the printheads just dried out, and would have done the same with genuine Epson. No easy way to tell, and the printer had not been powered off when not in use.

If the clogging is NOT related to the ink in these cartridges, then they should get a five-star rating. The vendor shipped quickly and the price is great.

HEAD-CLEANING: the printer's "Clean" utility didn't accomplish much, except to use up almost half the ink in all of the cartridges ("only" three printheads were clogged). After some web searches, I sprayed some Windex onto the protective foam pads that lie below the cartridges when the carriage is in the "home" position, then turned the printer power off (with its own power switch) for about an hour. When "off", the printheads press against the pads to protect them from drying out, and in this case, the Windex is supposed to soften the dried ink. After turning the printer back on, I ran the "Clean" utility again, then did another nozzle check. That did the trick, and the heads no longer were clogged. For the past two weeks, I've been keeping the printer powered off when not in use, and there have been no further instances of clogged heads.

Note: one dealer website specifically warns against using Windex, and recommends the special cleaning fluid he sells. Most websites just recommend using Windex.

Works fine.......2007-07-19

I ordered this ink for my Epson Stylus Photo R320. I just couldn't resist the price--about 1/10th of the OEM cartridge! This cartridge looks a little different but it snapped into the ink slot just fine, and seems to be working fine so far. The print is maybe just a teensy bit fuzzier than with the OEM cartridge, but when I'm printing plain black text it's really for my own unfancy home use so it doesn't matter to me. I probably wouldn't order this ink if I were printing business materials, but it works fine for casual home use.
