Defective Radio, Bad Service.......2007-06-14

The radio arrived with a crooked display and hard to use tuning knob. The package had obviously been opened before, so I got someone else's reject. Beach Audio will not pay return shipping under any circumstances, not even for sending me a defective product!!! So I am out $12 in shipping and have no radio.

This is a great portable weather radio. Small enough to carry in your purse or pants pocket, your choice of using 4 AA batteries or the electrical cord that comes with it, a loud tone alert to warn you when threatning weather approaches, a nice handle for carrying, and it also makes for a great little AM/FM radio for when the weather is not threatning. The speaker is very good and better than most portable radio speakers. I read the comments up above about a little radio interfearance but you are going to experience that with all portable radios or scanners. This weather radio has an awesome telescopic antenna which you can aim for best reception. This weather radio was a great investment!

I purchased one of these radios before Christmas and it works great. I decided I wanted another for work, so I ordered another one.

I recived my radio a couple of days ago and had to send it back because the "preset" weather stations are off the mark and the only thing I can pick up is distorted and garbled. They sent me a replacement and it too is off station. At this point, I'm wondering if the first one I got was the exception. I do NOT reccomend this product unless you just want an am/fm radio, that part works great.

This will be my last First Alert purchase unless I can try it out first!

I love this radio! It's awsome! When the clouds look bad I make sure it is tuned to my NOAA that I recive, I flip the switch to alert and it let's me know to tune in and get the latest weather update. It comes with AC adapter or you can use batteries. What more could you want?

Great UPS for my needs.......2006-01-29

I went to the APC website (www.APC.com) and used their solutions wizard to select this power supply. I highly recommend that anyone considering buying an APC UPS go to their website and use the wizard to find exactly what specs they need. When you enter the specifics for your computer, and your required back-up time, it will give you three different options to chose from. The website will also give you specifics of how each power supply will handle your power requirements. Once you get all thee information come back here, and get your product of choice for about 10-15% off. How's that for a deal?

I now have a battery back up that runs my PC (AMD Athlon XP w/ 650W PS), external hard drive, 22 inch LCD monitor, my cable modem, and my wireless HUB for about 35 minutes after a power outage. Which gives me more than enough time to finish what I am doing and power down every thing if I need to. With my extended back-up time I can even work through a short power outage.

I really hope that this review was helpful. I didn't get into the specifics of why you should get a back-up power supply, because I would assume that if you are reading this review, you already know the advantages.

Macintosh users beware!.......2007-03-09

If you are a Mac user and thinking of using the Buffalo Linkstation as a NETWORK STORAGE DEVICE for a MEDIA SERVER you can do much better! I ordered this with the hope of using it to store and serve iTunes and iPhoto. 1. The instructions for getting it set up we're either out of date or Buffalo hadn't hooked up a Mac to see how it currently works. Instructions for the Mac were pretty much 'you're on you own'. After some troubleshooting I got it working. 2. The download times were unbeliveably slow! It didn't support Appletalk or Extended Appletalk. I had to revert to using SMB protocol... 54 hours to download 8 gigs! I think not. I called their support team and they essentially shrugged their shoulders... Mac's were not their thing. I ended up sending it back and getting a LaCie ...same size storage for $20 less. Set up was a breeze. Appletalk was supported, also Unix, Linux & Windows. 8 gigs downloaded in 45 minutes! That's more like it! Hope this helps your decision.

No incremental backups!.......2006-09-15

At first, I was very pleased with this purchase. The speed was pretty good for a network device (of course, it's much slower than connecting a USB2 drive directly to a PC). So I transferred all of my music, photos, and videos onto the Linkstation to act as a central media server for my home computers. Then I bought a Buffalo Drivestation and connected it to the USB port (to act as a backup for the network drive). I performed a full backup of 80GB worth of files. It took several hours but went fine.

The following week, I performed another backup. To my surprise, it started to back up every file again. After digging around, I found out it does not perform an incremental backup. The only way to perform incremental backups is to use third party software and run it form a PC or Mac. The problem with this is that all the files need to travel over the network to the PC and then back to the Linkstation. This would take DAYS to backup 80GB (I even have a gigabit network and Gigabit Linkstation). Yes, the first backup would be slow and later backups would be faster. But it would still take forever to backup a large video file (such as as my latest home video of my baby). And I'd need to leave the PC on to do so.

Well, I feel like Buffalo swindled me out of two drives. If you intend to use the Linkstation to backup files from your PCs, I'm sure it would work fine. But if you want to use it as a primary storage device, forget it since there's no easy way to back it up.
