The 76CSx features a removable microSD card for detailed mapping memory and a waterproof, rugged housing. View larger. |
The GPSMap 76CSx features the powerful SiRF GPS navigation chip, as well as an electronic compass and a barometric altimeter.
|
The trip computer provides odometer, stopped time, moving average, overall average, total time, max speed, and more. |
You can use the 76CSx's memory card slot with preprogrammed microSD cards from Garmin (sold separately) that provide topographic maps, city streets, and nautical charts. In fact, the unit is compatible with most Garmin MapSource products, including BlueChart, City Navigator, U.S. Topo 24K, and U.S. Topo and Recreational Lakes with Fishing Hot Spots. The unit comes preloaded with an Americas autoroute basemap that provides automatic routing capabilities including highways, exits, and tide data. There's also a preloaded marine point database. You can even get turn-by-turn directions when you're driving, and an integrated trip computer provides odometer, stopped time, moving average, overall average, total time, max speed, and more.
The 76CSx's 2.6-inch, 256-color TFT color display is designed to present mapping and trip information clearly and accurately in any lighting conditions. Plus, the case is lightweight, rugged, and water resistant to IEC 60529 IPX7 standards (can be submerged in one meter of water for 30 minutes). Marine users will also like the fact that the 76CSx floats. When using two AA alkaline batteries, you'll get up to 20 hours of battery life from the unit.
Another key feature of the 76CSx is the 10,000 point automatic track log; 20 saved tracks (500 points each) let you retrace your path in both directions. Meanwhile, there's a large numbers option for easy viewing, as well as a dual-position display mode. The unit also includes built-in celestial tables for best times to fish and hunt, plus sun and moon calculations. You also get audible alarms for anchor drag, arrival, off-course, proximity waypoint, and clock. The unit's barometric altimeter system features automatic pressure trend recording while providing current elevation, ascent/descent rate, minimum/maximum elevation, total ascent and descent, and average and maximum ascent and descent rate. Meanwhile, the electronic compass allows you to get accurate headings while standing still.
The 76CSx's trip computer provides odometer, stopped time, moving average, overall average, total time, max speed, and more. Meanwhile, a fast processor allows the 60Cx to provide quick auto-routing, turn-by-turn directions, and audio alerts when you use the optional MapSource software, which can be stored on the unit's included 128 MB microSD card. Downloading information is quick with the USB or serial port interfaces. Using the dedicated serial port, the 76CSx can share navigation instructions with repeaters, plotters, and autopilots.
If you like the features of the 76CSx but don't need an electronic compass and a barometric altimeter, check out the Garmin GPSMap 76Cx.

Customer Reviews:
The Cadillac of handheld GPS units.......2007-09-15
There are times when "pretty good" isn't good enough. For me, purchasing a GPS unit represented one of those times. I wanted a handheld GPS unit that was best-in-class. My research led me to the GPSMap 76CSx. Factors that led to the decision: frankly, the reviews here; Garmin's reputation; powerful satellite locking; great variety of base- and add-on maps; expandable storage via microSD card; altimeter; compass; battery life; transreflective LCD screen. Don't underestimate the importance of the transreflective screen: one of the biggest consumers of battery power is the LCD: with the backlight on frequently, battery life drops significantly. The transreflective LCD enables you to turn off backlighting for use outdoors during the day, which significantly reduces battery draw.
I like to play with a unit before reading the manual, and in playing around I have figured out the major functions/features. It's not the *most* intuitive unit, but I give it 4/5 stars on intuitiveness. The manual is not huge, but is a several-evening reading project, and that's on my soon-to-do list.
Initial satellite locking is pretty quick (3-4), then acquisition of another 3-4 satellites occurs over the next several minutes. This is *indoors*, where I routinely lock 9 satellites in a townhouse. Out in the woods while hiking, I also lock and hold at least 9 satellites. The more satellites your unit can lock, the more accurate your coordinates are.
I started with using just the built-in basemap, which is ... basic. The first map I added was Topo 2008 USA. While the resolution is only 100k, it adds a reasonable level of topographical detail for my uses (general light hiking), as well as non-routable local roads. (The roads appear and are labelled, but the unit cannot calculate turn-by-turn routing directions using the Topo map. For this, you must add one of the Navigator maps.)
The unit is light, and battery life so far seems as promised (15-20 hours). I have not tried rechargeable batteries, but plan to do so. If they work well, fine, and if not, fine too. Alkalines are inexpensive enough bought in bulk.
Downloading maps from the computer is quite a slow process, so I'm going to guess the USB is 1.1 not 2.0. I downloaded the mid-Atlantic and New England region, approximately 700k of data, which took over 45 minutes. I can't imagine loading the whole country. The Navigator maps may be smaller, since I don't believe they contain elevation data.
All in all, I am very pleased with this unit. The main things a potential buyer must be aware of is the need to add: 1) a larger microSD card to store additional map data; 2) the need to purchase better topographical maps for serious outdoor use; 3) the understanding that while Topo maps show roads, they do not calculate driving routes on these roads; 4) for routable driving maps, you have to add a Navigator type map.
Nice GPS, Good Price.......2007-09-05
I'm new to using a GPS receiver unit, and frankly I'm impressed with the accuracy, quality and general overall ease of use with this hand held gps unit.
some of the features it has that surprised me,
parachute jump calculator, tells you where you might land based on altitude ect.. very neat feature, I'm sure an advanced parachutist would love this tool that's integrated into the gps functions of :
compass
altimeter (barometric)
speed indication
highly precision GPS location tracking
waypoints, and automatic routing.
In short. VERY COOL, as cool as a car mounted system.
The only issue I had was the maps were kinda useless, all the feature are present for obviously something it doesnt come with, highly updated maps.
THOSE are seperate, and about 200$ extra - but you get the car charger, and mounting system for in car navigation .. it doesnt talk, but it really doesnt need to. the map s are scrollable. and you can quickly find things like gas stations, resturants ect.. specially good if your traveling quite a bit. or even a little to a new area.
I use this for GEOCACHING, it fits in my cargo pockets with ease. it's lightweight, durable, lasts a long time on 2 AA Batteries, and even has options to switch to ni-mh batteries which I happen to have layinga round the house w/ a charger unit for an old camera I used to use.
the screen is color, bright. and what's neat about this unit is.. it has a day/night color change feature, .. so when it flips to nighttime, you can look around the window and say 'yep there goes the sun"
it's accurate too with dates and calender info - such as moon phases.. it has that built in.
there's even tide prediction as well .
For marine use, it's got SOME features. but for general overall everyday use. WOW this thing is packed with features, built in applications. search system to find stuff. and it works great with geocaching.com online .loc uploads.
this has 128 meg Micro SD card built in, larger memory cards are available for very low prices.. I saw 512meg microsd for about 29$
the microsd cards are used to store tracks, waypoints that you add, and additional maps.
I recomend this one over the 60csx, only because it's waterproof submergable, and doesnt ahve a funky antenna sticking up. that will tell people aroudn you you got a gps unit in your hand.
as far as design and buttons, it's easy to use. smooth scrolling. and hihgly configurable to change sensativity ect..
Way too big for hiking.......2007-08-30
I am returning the 76CSx and getting the eTrex Vista HCx instead. When I pulled the 76CSx from the box, I knew right away this would not work for hiking, geocaching, and biking (the main reasons I use GPS). It is simply too big. I am used to my old eTrex Vista, and the 76 just dwarfs it. I can't believe other reviews that say that the 76 fits "comfortably in my pocket." They haven't seen the eTrex series. I should have known from the product description it was too big, but sometimes it doesn't sink in until you actually see it.
I have no reason to doubt the performance of the 76CSx (I didn't use the one I bought). Perhaps some applications will benefit from the larger size, boating in particular. I do think that the buttons above the screen are problematic, as well as the fact that you have to move your finger off the rocker key to hit "enter" rather than push down on the rocker.
From what I can tell, the Vista HCx will be almost as good in performance to the 76CSx or 60CSX, but much smaller and lighter.
Works as advertised, keypad and better screen would be nice.......2007-08-23
We haven't used this product for driving or boating yet, but we did take it out geocaching. It fits well in my pocket, and after a bit of practice and manual reading the features all seem to work nicely (so far).
Cons:
I think the unit would be better for having a numeric keypad like a cellphone's so that characters (coordinates, especially) could more easily be entered. Entering numbers and names is pretty painful with the soft keyboard.
The screen seems a little small, but on the other hand I wouldn't want the unit to be much bigger.
Garmin GPSMap 76Csx.......2007-08-18
I love the 76CSx. It came quickly -- right on the day it was supposed to arrive. I had been using a Garmin 72 and the change to the 76CSx has been pure joy. I debated between the Garmin 60CSx and the 76CSx and finally chose the 76 because the keys are the same and I felt as is if would be easy to adapt to. The only advantage that I could see that the 60 had was the smaller size. I also ordered the City Navigator disk which I had trouble loading. Once I got it loaded it was wonderful. I bought a 1 GB micro card and had even more trouble loading the maps on that, but I went to the help site and used the mass storage device instructions and loaded the 9 states (including Texas) I needed for vacation onto the unit. It was an amazing help on the trip. I couldn't be happier with the unit. I use it when I travel and when I take walks (it keeps track of distance and speed for me). It works even in my house, when I have it shut up in my purse and under the heaviest of tree cover. I could go on and on, but let it suffice to say, I am very happy with it.

This unit features a built-in quad helix antenna for superior reception and can provide position accuracy to less than three meters when receiving WAAS corrections. The GPSMAP 76 has an internal memory capacity of eight megabytes. In addition, it comes with a built-in basemap of cities, coastlines, lakes, rivers, interstates, and interstate exit information and a database of nautical navaids. This unit has eight megabytes of internal user memory for storing optional MapSource - detailed maps, including marine cartography. This memory is preloaded from the factory with worldwide cities (populations greater than 200, 000) and nautical navigation aids such as lights, buoys, sound signals and day beacons. The GPSMAP 76 is also preloaded with tide data for the United States. An extra-large display measuring 1.6"W x 2.2"H gives users a clear view of information, while a waterproof case means the GPSMAP 76 will keep working well even if it has been submerged in water. Even more amazing, this unit will actually float if accidentally dropped in the water.
Amazon.com Review
The key to success in life is knowing where you are, where you've been, and where you're going. Garmin's full-featured GPSMAP 76 puts all of that information in the palm of your hand, mapping your movements off-road or on--and even afloat. Plus, its extensive features, PC connectivity, and extensive add-on map options make it powerful enough for practically any need.
About the size of a small paperback book and weighing less than 8 ounces, the GPSMAP 76 fits comfortable in the palm of your hand, but is a bit big to carry in a shirt pocket. Using the unit requires almost no setup. Just put in two AA batteries, turn it on, go outside, and wait. In about a minute or so it will determine your location. It's accurate to about three meters, thanks to the unit's support of WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System), which augments GPS signals for even greater accuracy.
Knowing your longitude, latitude, and altitude doesn't mean much without a little context. That's where GPSMAP 76's backlit LCD display comes in, displaying your location on detailed maps. The unit comes with a built-in basemap that includes major roads, railroads, rivers, and lakes for the U.S. and Canada, as well as a high-level worldwide map. The unit also has 8 MB memory for storing maps from optional CD-ROMS; available maps include topographical maps, BlueChart marine cartography maps, as well as city maps with detailed information on city streets and points of interest.
The eight buttons, directional rocker thumbpad, and menu-based interface made it simple to access all of the unit's features and customize the display. For instance, it's a simple matter to use the buttons to set and name waypoints and build planned routes. Extra features include information on tides, sunrise and sunset, and a trip computer for seeing how far you've traveled and your average speed.
To test the GPSMAP 76, we used the included serial cable, connected it to our PC, and loaded it up with topographical maps using the optional United States topographical map disc. We then hit the road and headed for Muir Beach north of San Francisco. It tracked our progress along Highway 1, and once we reached our destination, we found it very simple to use. It showed both the elevation of the hills as well as the paths we could take. The zoom-in and zoom-out function made it simple to plan out and automatically measure the distance of our intended route.
After walking for a while and enjoying the scenery, we used the TracBack mode to guide us back to our car. The unit automatically stores waypoints as you walk along, letting you display the way home clearly on the map. We even used the TracBack capability to guide us on the roads back to the freeway.
The GPSMAP 76 comes in handy almost anywhere, whether you're hiking, driving, boating, or wandering around a city as a tourist. Its easy-to-use interface makes it immediately useful to novices, and as you learn to exploit its programmability and features, it can become an extremely powerful navigation tool. --Ken Feinstein
Pros:
- Large backlit LCD
- WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) support
- Automatic TracBack shows you the way back to your start location
- PC connectivity with wide variety of uploadable maps available
Cons:
- 8 MB built-in memory can't be expanded
- Too large to fit comfortably in a shirt pocket

Garmin 76 Handheld GPS.......2007-07-05
My husband says the GPS works great, and it will serve his purposes. He likes to fish, hunt and ride horseback on trails. I tried to consider other people's reviews to get the best price on a model that would meet his needs.
Perfect Starter GPS and more (GPSMAP76).......2007-01-18
I had previously used GPS units, but never knew the intricacies of one until purchasing the GPSMAP76. The base maps that are preloaded on this unit are awsome. It is extremely user friendly. If you are technologically in the dark and are scared about newer electronics such as this, this unit is perfect. The manuals walk you through everything.
I have had a blast planning trips, geocaching (google it), and I can't wait to get on the water with it. I put it to the test when I was in some beautiful back country in the northern portion of lower Michigan. I googled some coordinates of where I wanted to go, and connected the dots on some really awsome 4x4 trails. The accuracy was incredible.
The only downside I can think of is the lack of expandable memory. However, I can't see the need for any additional software. Like I said, the basemaps are full of detail. I can find a McDonalds that is 20 miles up the road off an interstate exit! Also, it is a little bigger than the eTrex series, but that's because it's a "mapping" unit. It still fits easily into my Columbia jacket pocket.
The GPSMAP 76S would have been nice, but I was trying to be very price conscientious. Overall, I'm stunned and I love it.
Excellent bang for the buck.......2006-10-30
The Garmin GPSMap 76 is a nicely thought out and solidly built device that works great if you're willing to learn how to use it. It has super-sharp graphics, a fair amount of detail, good satellite reception and accuracy, and nice additional features like tidal and sun rise/set information. Oh, and it's waterproof and it floats. I've had mine a few months and have gotten good use out of it while driving around northern California and city hiking in San Francisco, and i'm just starting to look at geocaching.
This should be obvious to most people but, for the price of this unit, you are not going to get a GPS that puts your seat belt on and gives you turn-by-turn directions in your choice of voices. You have to be a bit of a gadget-head (or, at least, not a gadget-phobe) to figure out how to use all of the 76's features like navigation or the surprisingly detailed trip computer. The menu-driven UI is rather terse and doesn't have built-in documentation. Luckily, the GPSMap 76 allows you to work in simulator mode so you can put it through all of its paces from your living room.
The 8Mb RAM does seem light, but GPS Mapquest format must be very efficient in storing data, because that actually works fine for most localized uses. If you travel around a lot and want to keep two or more locations memory-resident, you might begin to feel the pinch. As others have mentioned, some of the stored topo and location data is rather high-level and you can spend ~$90 for a CD set that will provide more detail. That seems to me to be a reasonable price-performance investment.
The only thing i've found in this unit that i would consider a bug is that the user has to tell it what time zone to use. I would think that it would figure that out based on its location. Minor detail, though. One other thing -- the 76 doesn't come with a carrying case so you're out a little more money buying a pouch for it. Great deal for the money though, and a solid product overall.
needs more detail.......2006-08-20
You will need to buy Map-source maps ($100+) to make this thing worth the purchase. I needed GPS for boating but the base maps are rudimentary, ie; no inlets, rivers, shoreline detail or lakes. It is although very accurate and easy to use, nice big screen and good reception. If you need GPS now this unit is an excellent value. I payed $199 a month ago and now its $169 but that's my problem.
Great product.......2006-03-15
My husband and father both have this unit. It's really handy to have on road trips and to use while Geocaching. From our experience, it does take a while to download map information onto the unit, and a color screen would be nice, but for $200, I think it's a good value.

Product Description
If you're a devoted mariner or serious outdoor enthusiast, Garmin GPSMAP 76S is the GPS/mapping unit for you. The "S" in the product name stands for "sensors", because the GPSMAP 76S incorporates a GPS receiver, barometric altimeter, and an electronic compass that deliver precise location, elevation, and bearing information to take adventurers as high or as far as they want to go. The unit also contains a basemap of North and South America, including major highways, thoroughfares, rivers, lakes, and borders, with plenty of memory (24 MB) for downloading MapSource data. It's also waterproof and floats in water - and its larger screen, increased readability, bigger buttons, and rugged design make this unit at home in even the harshest conditions.

Great Value.......2007-09-11
I purchased this product primarily for use in my work. I wanted a unit with an electronic compass, altimeter capabilities, and the ability to measure area. After much research, I found that the 76S provides all of those capabilities at a very reasonable cost. Although other units have more bells and whistles, such as color display and memory cards, they are much more expensive. The 76S provides excellent capabilities for my uses at a mid-range cost. The user manual could be somewhat more user-friendly, but this is a minor problem, since the unit is fairly intuitive to use.
Great GPS unit.......2007-08-27
I recently became a yaker and needed a GPS. Not only to know where I was going but to provide the ability to return to the place I started. A friend recommended Garmin and after reviewing the different products I decided on the GPAMAP 76S. The unit is everything that Garmin says it is. My next purchase will be mappng software so that I can plot Yak trips easily and more effectively.
Garmin 76S Handheld.......2007-06-08
I use the instrument primarily for bareboat sailing. Previously I used a Garmin 76, but went to the 76S for more memory. The 76 couldn't store enough track points for more than several days sailing. The 76S memory and its flexibility to program distance between track points allowd me to easily record track points for a two week cruise, all within the device itself. The 76S has added features such as compass, altimeter, and maps which I don't use, but some might. Good product.
Solid, but it's large and lacks ease-of features.......2007-05-14
I bought this unit to do some Geocaching with my daughter. When I opened the box, I was surprised by how large this unit was. I didn't pay attention to the size specifications listed on the purchase page. The graphics used to advertise made this unit appear to be about the size of the smaller eTrex Navigator units and their ilk. If you don't mind carrying around something about the size of a Fluke digital multimeter, this would suit your purposes. As for ease-of, the interface for the computer is 9-pin serial which is incovenient. The internal software doesn't allow you to save or show much text for Geocaching. (Some receivers allow you to put in comments and hints.) This unit is very solid, does what it does very well, but lacks a few things that would make it an excellent system for Geocaching. On the positive side, the screen is large and easy to read. The internal altimeter gives you vertical profile capabilities.
perfetto!!!.......2007-01-26

Garmin 25 MCX Antenna.......2007-09-04
Works like a charm! Solved out problem of no reception in our minivan due to the funky shaped front glass!
Pathetic Performance. Get the Gilsson instead........2007-08-03
I ordered one of these Garmin 25MCX external GPS antennas thinking it was an adequate but less-expensive version of the Garmin GA27C. But the performance of the 25MCX was so bad that I thought it was defective. "Bad" in this context means that all four of the Garmin GPS units that I tried with it took way too long to acquire a fix and the GPS unit very easily lost its connections to the satellites. The 25MCX was essentially useless. I assume that the 25MCX must provide a very weak signal to the GPS compared to the Garmin GA27C and the "Gilsson High Performance active remote external" products.
More information: I tested the 25MCX with two different Garmin eMaps, a Garmin StreetPilot 2610, and a Garmin StreetPilot 2720. All with the same pathetic results: Way too long to acquire, way to frequent satellite disconnects. Amazon replaced the 1st 25MCX for me. But the 2nd one was no different. So Amazon replaced it, too. The 3rd one was just like the others. So, I returned it and replaced it with the Garmin-compatible Gilsson High Performance active remote external GPS Antenna. I currently own 3 of the Gilssons and over the years have owned 5 Gilssons. Perfect! And inexpensive. If you *must* have a Garmin, don't waste your money on the 25MCX. Get the Garmin GA27C. I owned one of these as well and used it with my eMap for sailing on Lake Superior. It works as well as the Gilsson. But, as of 8/3/07, the cost of the Garmin GA27C was $100 and the cost of the Gilsson High Performance active remote external GPS Antenna was $20. And their performance is equal.
25 MCX Antenna Does the Trick !!!.......2007-07-24
My Garmin c330 operated awful in my old Buick Roadmaster wagon with the unit taking sometimes up to 15-18 minutes to acquire the satellites and then lost them very often during any given trip. The GPS was useless to me. The addition of this antenna totally solved my problem. The acquisition of the satellites is very fast and I haven't lost them during any trip. I highly recommend this antenna.
Works well --- for a while -- Beware lousy warranty.......2007-07-05
I got this for my GPSmap 60csx and my wife's Quest (Mark I). We wanted to be able to locate the units someplace safer (for the occupants) than on the dash when we were in the car. We were also experiencing loss of lock when driving in some forested locations (the Quest mainly).
The antenna seems to improve reception even compared to the GPS units in the same location, and is a lot better when you locate the antenna someplace where the reception is better and/or the GPS units could not fit or be seen. I always kept the antenna inside the car - on the dash, or on sunroof shade. But the magnet seemed adequate to mount of the body of the car. Problem I had with that concept is that the wire has to be bought into the car through an open window or something, and I did not need to do it, so I never tried.
The only downside is that the connector (which is a coaxial type) seems to be a bit fragile for the application. It was very snug and hard to insert/remove and after a dozen or so inserts/removes the inner conductor became sufficiently misaligned that it damaged the connector on the GPS unit, and the external antenna stopped working. I believe that it gets power from the wire as well as sending signals. The GPS switched automatically to its internal antenna so this was not immediately apparent. I will shortly be seeing how Garmin's warranty process works.
Edited:
Warranty process for the antenna is this: Garmin does not do repairs, and refers you to the place you purchased it from to "see if they can do anything for you." Amazon.com's return policy is only for 30 days (in original packaging) otherwise they refer you to the manufacturer. I have had this for 6 weeks so I am out of luck. Buyer Beware, I guess. My recommendation, buy it if you really need it but buy it from a bricks and mortar store that has an interest in keeping you as a customer if the product turns out to be defective.
Edited again:
I sent in my GPSMap 60CSx (its external antenna connector failed when the external antenna's connector failed) for repair under its warranty. I got back someone else's Rino 110. Now, given that a Rino 110 costs 1/2 as much as a GPS Map, and has a very different feature set (including a walkie-talkie and the ability to communicate with other Rino's - but I don't own any, but no route finding) it is useless in my application. So, not only will the antenna take out itself, it can take out your GPS too, and the warranty service for that sucks as well. I'd steer clear of this antenna/manfacturer unless you absolutely need it.

Customer Reviews:
Choose this one!.......2007-06-22
Overcome your fear of putting screws in your dash and use this mount! Why? Because the sticky pads on the automotive version of this mount don't work!
The base may be screwed into the dash (yes, you are making a commitment) and then the bracket attaches with a thumb knob. The GPS will not fly off the dash, and operation will be a lot easier because the bracket will hold the unit stationary.
If you need a bracket for a marine application, clearly this is the one. I have also found that the base of my GPS12 bracket (also Garmin) is identical and allows me to swap between the GPSMap 76 and GPS12. How's that for legacy system support.
Before drilling, remove the panel you wish to mount to, or remove something so you can see inside - you don't want that drill going into anything critical. Yes, for some modern vehicles this may be a bit intimidating. Get a stereo installer to do it for you. I guarantee you will not regret it!
Nice Mount.......2007-05-16
This is a nice little marine mount for the GPSMAP76. The little thumb screw holds the unit tightly in position. I have no problem with the screw becoming loose. For those wishing to use double stick tape to hold the bracket to the helm rather than drilling holes, the base is solid so you can apply the tape to the entire surface. The bracket does not swivel from side to side. Works great for me.
Nice, but a tie wrap is still needed.......2006-05-13
I bought this and had it hard mounted to my little seadoo jetboat. It works nicely, but the bumping in and out of the water causes the locking mechanism to slide over to the unlocked position frequently (like within 2 minutes). The product should have been designed to accommodate this problem. I have put a little piece of plastic in the groove that the slider slides in and secured that piece of plastic by wrapping a tie wrap around the entire GPS and GPS holder. Now it is secure, but looks a little stupid.

Much better than batteries!.......2007-01-05
I had been using my Garmin GPS with batteries for years. I used the rechargeable ones, keeping the cost low. I figured I didn't need the additional cords and hassle of the cigarette lighter power adapter. I purchased one on a whim, and I'm really happy with it. I didn't use the backlighting on the GPS at night before, because of how quickly it would drain the batteries. Now I can use it every minute, and I'm really enjoying my GPS even more. I'm glad I own this product.

Customer Reviews:
Very rugged ... like rubberized truck bed.......2007-09-24
From the photo, it almost looks like the Foarm GPS case is made of a soft foam-like material. Fortunately, this isn't true at all! It is made of a durable rubber that compares to the spray on liner material put in truck beds - tough and very easy to grip (even when wet). As for fit, it's perfect for my 76 CSx. The Foarm case also comes with several laminate screen protectors to stick over the GPS screen to prevent scratches.

Foarm-This is the case to get to protect your Garmin GPS.......2007-06-11
I stumbled over this while looking for the Garmin brand GPS case. I'm glad I found the Foarm brand one. It is the best protection when the GPS gets dropped on hard surfaces or in the water. Your GPS will still float! Fits like a wetsuit. Comes with replaceable protective overlay for the display. I suggest getting others (for PDAs) and use the one included as a template. Integrated lanyard and safety clip. The pefect design. ...and you will drop it!
The case to beat all cases........2007-01-12
Your GPS deserves one of these. It is a high quality exact molded fit to my 76csx. I spoke to a company rep who explained to me that the grey vs black case is just a color difference. The grey is a bit better suited to marine use due to its color if it falls overboard. In response to the screen covers, I installed it correctly and still think it hinders visibility slightly, but it'll do until I find a better material. However the second screencover will act as a perfect template.
Best case available.......2006-10-04
This is the third case I've purchased for my Garmin GPS 76 and it is by far the best. Superb design, top-notch quality! Case fits like a glove. Screen protector offers crystal clear protection. Excellent customer service.
Foarm is the perfect GPS protection.......2006-08-01
I own a Garmin GPSMap 76cx which accompanies me on many wilderness canoe trips in northern Canada and I needed a rugged case to protect it from many potential perils. The Foarm all terrain case is perfect. It's rigid, non-slip and a perfect fit. The case stands proud of both the GPS buttons and the screen, protecting both from damage in a fall. It fits perfectly, does not interfere with GPS operation, does not obscure the screen and is a cinch to put on/take off. I imagine the other Foarm cases are of equal quality.
Communications, sevice and delivery from Foarm were top notch. An excellent purchase in every respect.

Customer Reviews:
Most versatile Garmin data/power cable for the price.......2007-09-23
Product works as advertised, build quality seems good. This cable set allows use of 12 volt DC power with any Garmin GPS that has the round 4-pin DIN connector. I purchased this cable for use with a 60CX. The 9-pin Serial connector provides RS-232 connectivity of the GPSr to other devices, typically a laptop computer. On my 60CX, the RS-232 connection is used only for NMEA-0183 communications, all other I/O is via the USB connection.
NOTE: NMEA-0183 allows your GPS to send navigation position data to devices like a Marine autopilot or chartplotting software. This cable would be a good choice for using a 60C series or similar Garmin GPSr on a boat or RV where the owner is running real-time navigation software on a PC, or wants to connect a 60C to a marine autohelm or tiller autopilot device.
This cable can also be used in a automobile or RV to provide 12 volt power only to the GPSr, without using the RS-232 connector, although there are other low-priced power-only cables available for this purpose are are less bulky.
good product, slow shipping.......2005-09-26
the cable is great and works perfectly. i paid for 3 day shipping and it took over a week to get here from the shipping notice i was emailed

Customer Reviews:
Good case.. but carabiner on wrong end.......2007-07-13
I had no problems with the reported tightness of the case. It simply fits snugly, which is as I'd expect. (Though it may take a moment of fiddling with the case to center the GPS display in the case's plastic window.) The display is reasonably visible through the plastic window, and the buttons aren't too hard to press. I noticed no satellite reception issues that would be attributable to this case.
My only complaint with this case is that the carabiner is on the wrong end of the case, so that when I attach it to my backback's shoulder strap or belt, the unit is upside-down when I flip it up to look at it. To compensate for this, I have to hold the unit sideways and tilt my head at an awkward angle. Pretty silly.
Gilsson GPS Carrying Case.......2006-07-04
I'll reiterate comments from several other reviewers.
It is a pretty nice case, but has some minor flaws. First, it is a very tight fit for my 76CSx. Somewhat of a struggle to get the GPS in the case. It does provide a clear view of the buttons and display. Second, I too worry about the seam where the window is sewn onto the fabric. Due to the tight fit, there is a lot of tension on the seam and one has to be extremely careful when trying to get the case to slide over the GPS. Third, a storage pouch for spare data cards would be great.
With some minor tweaks this could be an excellent case. Will have to see how it holds up in use.

tight but good peice of equipment.......2005-09-24
Although i have just received this pouch, i'm sure over time it will give a little. Tight fit, but still offers access to buttons on face of garmin map 76CS
Fantastic Case for Garmin GPSMAP 76CS.......2005-08-15
I ordered this product for my new Garmin 76CS and while waiting for the shipping I pondered the scenario that perhaps the case was only useful for "storage" given that the design of the case completely covers the quad helix antenna that is on this particular unit. Given the sensitivity of the antenna, i.e., you lose reception when you place your hand over the front case of the unit-I reasoned that the case would more than likely shield some if not all satellite reception...rendering it useless for protecting the unit while in use. FORTUNATELY I WAS WRONG!!! I am getting very strong satellite reception with the case on the GPS unit; however, this may not be the case with other models, due to the nature of each antenna.
As far as longevity goes, the case is made out of neoprene (which I have had bad luck with in thinner layers) but the material is much thicker than what I was expecting so this is a plus. My only concern is the seam (threads) on the clear vinyl map/button Window and the neoprene material itself, as this would probably be the most likely place to rip. Only time will tell. Until then I am very pleased with this case from Gilsson Technologies!!!
