This is one of the best phones I have owned. I searched a long time for a decent phone. I couldn't find anything with good sound quality. This one has very good sound quality. Not many bells and whistles, just a good basic phone. I'm very happy with the answering machine too. I've had no problems with it and seems to work very well.

In the current day of 2.4Ghz (same frequency of microwave ovens) and higher phones with potential negative health effects, I was placed to find GE still making a high quality 900Mhz phone!
No complaints at all with this phone, it is feature packed and easy to setup. Once we discovered my son was having negative symptoms from wireless devices that are 2.4Ghz or higher (like WiFi internet) We decided totransition our home BACK to wired phones, we decided we needed just 1 cordless on the main floor. This phone was our choice and we couldn't be more than pleased with it. 900Mhz phones have the added benefit of not constantly "Pulsing" signals from their base stations like the higher phones do.
I really appreciate this product still being available and plan to order extra ones so we don't have to be forced into the unsafe higher frequency ones in the future.

I have to say that this is the best cordless phone I have ever used. I only paid $24.95 when I purchased it about two years ago. I now need a new battery for the first time.
As long as they continue to sell this great phone at such a reasonable price, if I ever need a new phone, it will be this one and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a phone that they can count on.
I even get clear reception on the second floor at my friends apartment. It is an excellent buy.

This is by far the worst phone I've ever tried to use. I bought the phone about a year ago, used it a few times, and then put it away until about a month ago, at which point I had lost the instruction manual. When I tried to use it, the language had been set to Spanish somehow, and there is apparently no way (or at least no reasonably obvious way) to change the language setting. Even doing a "full reset" of the phone doesn't reset the language. More significantly, some strange setting prevents it from receiving any calls. It displays the calling number, but it's impossible to answer the call.
There is no online version of the instruction manual (on the website, the spec sheet and the instruction document links both point to the useless spec sheet). I tried calling the support hotline, but it was completely useless -- I just got recorded generic instructions that didn't even pertain to my problems. I couldn't figure this thing out at all, and I'm a pretty decent CS/engineering student.
Overall - terrible user interface, no support, doesn't work. Don't buy it.

I had a vtech 5 GHz phone and I needed another phone for my apartment. After looking at all the expensive 5 GHz phones, I finally decided to give a shot to these 900 MHz older models and I am more than just happy for my decision. This phone is much better than all those expensive 5 GHz in terms of voice quality. It might not have all the features of those phones much nevertheless its fantastic for a basic cordless phone.

The phone is a value type purchase. It is worth what I paid for. Only thing that you should take into consideration is that the numbers on the hand set do not light, making it hard to dial in dark areas.

Good for the price I suppose. Theres a couple issues I have with this phone though. When you receive a call and press the talk button, it won't connect you right away. You have to wait about 2 seconds, so you have to train yourself to wait everytime you answer or you'll start talking when no one can hear you. Also it projects YOUR voice into your earpiece very loudly, so if you're talking and someone tries to interupts you or say something when you're making a noise you won't be able to hear them...
But I suppose it's a phone it works, and its really cheap. But spend a little more and find something better.

I have had this phone for 18 months now and it still works great. The range is good... I can move three (small) rooms away with good reception. The battery is still charging well and can hold for ~3 days off the base and still be good for a long call. I'm buying a second one now for in my bedroom.

This is a great basic cordless phone. The last 20 incoming calls are saved. There's memory to save 10 numbers as well. Comes at a great price.
Works with Vonage. Had bought a fancier 5.8GHz model before buying this but Vonage network seemed to miss some of the dialed digits on that model. This one works perfectly.
Have been using it for about a year and the battery is great. Lasts a couple of days without recahrge unless making many long calls. Range is good too: I have the base on the middle floor of my house and get perfect signal on the upper and lower floors.

Found A Way To Fix This Phone! .......2007-01-29
I read most of the reviews of this phone and agree with them. I would never buy another GE phone. In fact, I am waiting for my new Uniden cordless phone to arrive from Amazon. In the meantime, I tried this experiment yesterday. I took the battery out of the phone, then sprayed the keys and talk button in front with 409 Orange Power. I really doused it good. After that, I blasted the phone with steaming hot water, so much so that the screen fogged up.
Now, after that I shook the excess water out and duct taped the phone to a fan, with the buttons facing the fan. Today I hooked the battery back up, put everything back together and tried it. It worked fine even without a charge. I didn't have to keep pressing the same number 3 times to get it to register. It worked similar to when it was new.
I've done this with stereo receivers by taking the cover off, putting them in the bathtub, squirting them with a spray cleaner and blasting them with a hot shower. Then I put them in between two fans for THREE days. After that, they work fine. I'm sure I'm not the first person to do this. Just make sure you don't have the unit plugged in when you do this or you'll get shocking results. Try it! What have you got to lose?

Bought one of these phones. Like everyone else, followed ALL instructions EXACTLY. After less than 1 year, battery won't hold charge and phone keys have to be pressed numerous times to dial. Just bought brand new battery and followed charging recommendations before attempting use. It doesn't work. Headed for the garbage. DON'T BUY THIS and waste your money.
Big Disappoinment.......2006-04-17
Man, were we diappointed with this GE phone! We did everything right---"trained" the battery in the beginning, made sure we routinely charged it, never dropped or abused this phone, and then one day it started not holding a charge. We couldn't figure it out.
It worked fine for about a year and then completely crapped out, just like the other reviewers have said. We had a 10-year old Toshiba that was so fabulous and reliable up to it's unfortunate demise, which is when we acquired this loser. Are there any good phones out there somewhere????

The phone arrived very quickly as promised in the advertisement and functions as advertised. I like the clarity and battery life. I purchased this phone since I have another one in white and I like the fidelity of the sound on this model.
SOUND QUALITY SUCKS!.......2006-03-25
BELLS AND WHISTLES BUT CAN YOU HEAR THEM NOW? Sound quality is distorted and static-y, especially when someone calls you from their cell. Do you enjoy saying, "I'm sorry, what did you say?" You'd better! I purchased the 900mHz because it was touted as being compatible with DSL. I'm not sure what the issue is. I have a GREAT 900 mHz phone by Lucent--crystal clear in sound transmission, but, so old it didn't have caller ID, etc.
Amazon won't help me. It's been over 30 days (around 50 days) since I purchased the phone so of course they won't refund. They gave me a 1-800 number supposedly for GE. It is for "Thompson Products" who apparently make GE products now. The first try yeilded only an automated system to get info on TV/Vid/DVD (visual) products--no mention of phones! I'm now on a PAID call (on hold for about 15 minutes now) to another number suggested. This is BS! Who has time for this?

Has had a few problems.......2003-11-24
My sister received this phone for Christmas four years ago, and was happy with it for about the first two years or so. After that, it started having problems and would sometimes turn itself off after it was turned on or would not pick up when trying to answer the phone. The battery is not the problem, as it has been replaced, but the phone has repeatedly had problems ever since then. Buy this phone only if you are willing to get a new one in a few years.

I really like this phone, the way it looks, and the fact it has an extention cordless phone with it that only requires an AC outlet. And it's so cheap! However, it doesn't work. The ringer doesn't ring and you can't play your messages. What bothers me the most is that the seller won't respond to my requests to return it. Bad business. I won't ever buy from him again!
Lack of support for GE phone.......2004-12-01
I have had this phone for less than a year and the remote unit stopped working. I replaced the batteries several times with no results. I tried to call the numbers listed in the User's Guide and found I will have to send the whole thing back to get it repaired, plus I could not talk to a technical person to see if there was another repair option.
I would never buy a GE phone again.

Not a horrible phone, but not the best quality either. My two-year old broke the antenna off the portable within two weeks (our two other portables have not had this problem). We glued it back on and it still works. The speaker phone occasionally cuts out while on hold--no apparent problems while using it to talk. Sound quality is fine and no problems using the unit throughout the house (including upstairs with the base downstairs).

I wish I could find another phone like this by another manufacturer. It's an OK phone, but the little things are really beginning to bug me (after 4 months): can't read main display at night (backlight only comes on when phone is in use or phone is ringing); cordless charge doesn't last very long (a couple of days off the charger, without a lot of use, and it needs to be reacharged again); answering machine doesn't play the announcement so you can hear whether or not the announcement is working (also, other answering machines we've had stop the announcement if the caller hangs up); no good way to just view the caller-id's of the "new" calls; no way to delete "old" caller-id calls. Phone works fine, just the little things really beginning to bother me.
Own This Phone For 3 years.......2003-10-01
I've owned this phone for about 3 years now. For one of those years, we used it as an office phone, and it got really heavy duty usage. The only complaint I have is that the speakerphone feature gave out fairly quickly. But otherwise, this phone is flawless. Its especially great if you need a phone in another room but don't want to install another phone jack. All you have to do is put the cordless in that room.

I'm with Kevin ... it is just over a year that I have had this phone and the handset has faded into uselessness over the last month - guess when the warranty ran out - planned obsolescence or circumstance?? I really liked the "chain dialing" feature since I make alot of calls with a calling card and the phone was generally clear, although I often got the comment from the people at the other end of the line that I sounded distant or was hard to hear. The handsfree and memory dialing were very good and I used a headset off of the handset regularly. I thought the phone was reliable ... until the meltdown. I thought I was getting a long-term product, not a one-year disposable.

I bought this phone three years ago. I have used it every day since. It's construction is sturdy and it provides consistently reliable service. I do not carry the hand set more than 50 feet from the base, so I have seldom experienced static. I like the hand set because it is more like a full size desk phone. Thus it is comfortable to hold between the shoulder and ear while writing notes, etc. It has a headset jack if the user chooses to use one. The number pads on the handset and base are a bit larger than those on the smaller phones so common today. This should make it easier for older or handicapped users to read and access the dial function. There are volume controls for both the handset and the base speaker phone. After three years of use the battery in my phone is still the original. I am pleased with this model 26936GE2.
Do not buy!.......2003-04-12
I bought this phone so that I would have a desk speakerphone with an independent cordless handset as well. Handset will not allow you to go mopre than 20 feet before static takes over (other 900 Mhz and 2.4 GHz phones do fine and I've tried in 2 houses), and now handset has started to fail altogether - buttons fail. It has turned into a speakerphone. Just bought AT&T 2230 which appear to be great so far to add needed cordless handsets.

Excellent Phone.......2006-02-21
This is a beatiful phone, I highly recommend it. I have had this for 4 years with no issues until now. I liked the speaker phone feature and mute button and CW/Caller-ID on the base and handset.
Of late, I am getting a "No Link to Base" problem. New battery is not helping. I have sent an email to GE Customer service and no reply to date.
The handset is slightly large making it ideal to place between the shoulder and the ear. I also find the headset jack convenient.
