Decent media receiver... so-so DVD player.......2006-02-20

If the D2740 was only a wireless media player, I would have given it four stars. The UI is simple but good. The software that you install on your PC is good but it takes forever to search for media. I like that the D2740 will connect to Real Media player to allow streaming of internet radio stations.

I ripped all 650 of my CDs to MP3s and packed them away. The D2740 makes it easy to search by song, artist or album. You can also create playlists on the host PC and access the lists through the player.

The wireless connection is quick enough to stream video, just make sure that your PC has the horsepower (and video power) to stream. I have an older PIII laptop that could not stream well and the video was choppy. My 3.2 GHz machine with a decent ATI card has no problems pushing the video over the network.

Now the bad... the DVD player is pretty bad. It plays video DVDs OK, but it will not even recognize my DVD-A's. My XBOX is a better DVD player.

Another mini-peeve is that GoVideo puts a sticker over the display screen that is almost impossible to get off. I have had this device for 5 months and still have not been able to get the sticker residue off completely... what were they thinking???

Pros - Good streaming capabilities, good media search function, wireless connection decent

Cons - DVD player is bad, PC software has slow new media searching function.

GoVideo D2740 - Not bad at all.......2005-12-01

I've had this unit for a few months now and really like it. Streaming media wirelessly from my PC is great..saves tons of time and money burning CDs and DVDs. Does mpg's great and most avi's. Xvids can be a pain(out of sync audio), but you can use a program called mpeg4modifier to unpack the bitstream and then they work fine too. Only 2 things bug me about this player: 1) The remote is the worst! Have to press buttons repeatedly for it to work, even when pointed directly at the player. I fixed this by buying a Kameleon(sp?) remote from Radio Shack. 2) Their support stinks. I filed an online support request for the remote, sent many follow up emails, and they simply don't respond. Overall though, very happy with the player.

Okay but I was hoping for more..........2005-10-19

The GoVideo D2740 media player connects to your home network and plays photos, music and video files that already reside on your home computer. It supports a good variety of formats and the interface is simple if not speedy. I had one setup problem due to WEP (it likes you to enter all 4 keys) and one due to Norton Worm Protection (they don't coexist) but after adjusting those settings it works fine.

I was hoping, however, that it would be able to play or receive streaming media from the Internet. We have an on demand video service that would be great to show in other rooms. Oh well. Does any other device do that?

It's a nice device for showing video you captured on your TV without having to hook up the camcorder or burn a DVD. It's a nice device for listening to your music downloads on the family room sound system without a lot of gear or wires. But that's all it is.

Therefore, 3 stars based on limited features. But if that's all this class of products do then it works fine. Give it an extra star. I got mine for a very low price so I am not complaining. Basically, this class of device is not quite ready for prime time.

Buyer Beware!!!.......2005-09-24

Although I purchased a different unit, the GoVideo 8440 Portable DVD Player, it played exactly 6 movies before dying. GoVideo replaced it with a refurbished model, which arrived in non-working condition. I received a THIRD replacement unit (new)from GoVideo, which failed within minutes out of the box. Please note that I have since discovered that GoVideo Inc. is NOT a member of the Better Business Bureau of Central/Northern Arizona and has MULTIPLE complaints against the company. Purchase at your own risk!!

Had to return to the store..........2005-04-19

Bought the player and had to return that after 2 weeks of trying to get it working.
Installation was pretty easy, no surprises here. After the installation (which ended with the computer reboot) the player and software (MediaServer) worked fine. I was able to find, and stream my music (MP3s) collection to the player.
But next time I reboot the computer the MediaServer started operate abnormally. It took 100% CPU time, its memory usage grown linearly with time, and eventually my computer hang.
I thought that something wrong with my PC, tryed another one, but got the same thing.
Tryed contacting GOVideo Support... Got simple (could not be simpler) response: "Unfortunately, there is nothing I can assist you with as this is a backend PC issue."
Total: minus $23 for mailing (bought it from online store), lost several days of trying to get it to work; and GOVideo lost a consumer.

Great inexpensive camera.......2005-09-11

This is a great inexpensive camera. I purchased it online for under $50. It takes great outdoor pictures and with the snap on flash it takes really good indoor pictures as well. It took me a few times to get use to the flash and to know how far away from things I should stand so I would have indoor pictures that looked as good as the outdoor shots.

This camera has an internal memory which you can take 190 smaller sized pictures and 40 larger high quality pictures. It does not use memory chips which you can take out and develop at a store. You use the docking station they provide you to upload all your pictures to your computer. I love the docking station, It is so much easier than most of the software I have tried with other cameras. You just plug the USB cord in and the pictures are there on your computer.

Unfortunatly there are a few cons for this camera.
* The LCD Display is monochrome or black and white and does not show bright colors so you don't know how crisp and clear the picture will turn out until you upload it to your computer.
* To take a picture you do not look through a view finder you have to frame your picture with the LCD Display, and if you are outside it is sometimes too bright to see anything clearly on the LCD display and when you are inside and it is somethimes too dark to see anything very clearly on the LCD Display then as well. You pretty much have to be a good judge of where you are pointing the camera sometimes and just guess.

For the price and the quality of the pictures I believe this is a pretty good little camera. Deffintely not for professionals but for the average person who would like to take a few pictures and print them out or pass them along on the internet, this is a good buy.

Sound through the speakerphone varies based on how loud an automated attendant is. At first, I thought this was due to poor quality in the phone. The microphone hears really well. I like the handset for the AT&T 210 Trimline better, but this is a good phone.

A cool basic portable TV.......2003-08-15

This is a terrific portable TV that's light and compact. 4 batteries do add to the weight, though. But if you get a car adapter you won't notice the weight. Great for travel.

Do be aware that this is a passive-matrix color TV, so it's not as bright as active-matrix screens, like the Casio EV-570. The EV series also has more pixels: 61k vs. 39k for this one.

But this is still a great value for under 70 bux.

What a Surprise.......2003-07-27

I was thrilled when I began using this tv. I am able to receive channels from many miles away that I dont even get from my own house. Maybe this year I wont have to miss a Kentucky game during March Madness because I can easily sneak this into my classroom. The picture is very clear, my batteries seem to have lasted a longer time than expected. In general I was very pleased with this item.

Excellent TV for the price!.......2003-04-19

I just bought one and what a great little TV it is. It's very well made and its reception is wonderful. The screen is a bit grainy, even when on a station that comes in clearly, but still very viewable. The single speaker on top sounds very good and is capable of very high volume; I usually have my volume set at around 3 which is plenty loud. I'm able to get stations from other cities easily, and even a few stations that are too far away to get a perfect reception, the sound generally comes in clearly enough to listen to comfortably. And when I'm tuning my way through static, the sound of it is very diminished and not as annoying as one might expect. I really like the tuning line that appears on the screen; it makes tuning in stations a sinch. Add a quality set of walkman-like headphones and you'll be set. The only downside I can think of is probably comon to all handhelds like this: it's a battery hog! My solution is quite simple, I use rechargable batteries which last about 3 hours, whereas normal batteries will probably get you 5 hours. I highly recommend this TV!

Great for travel.......2003-03-25

With all that's going on in the world and news changing by the minute, this is a great travel TV! I carry it in my briefcase and always have it with me whether in the office or on the road. My office has been known to gather around my desk to watch breaking news. Sure, it's not cable or digital reception but it does it's job very well especially for the price. I recommend!

[COSTLY] & UNRELIABLE.......2003-04-11

Shortly after I bought this machine based on excellent technical reviews, the price dropped by [dollar amount], but the cost of consumables went through the roof. Toner cartridges increased ..., photo developer cartridges from ..., etc etc. And the machine needs an endless supply of replacement parts, charger kits, oil bottles, fuser kits, roller cleaner kits, toner waste bottle, etc, etc.-- the life of which are all well less than 50% of what they are supposedly rated for. The printer does not handle anything other than standard bond paper well, and rejects most cardstock, envelopes and glossy paper. And now, 1 week after the expiration of the warrantly period, the machine is making a horrible grinding noise, which requires a service call. Not a good record for essentially light use--I have only printed 13,500 pages in over a year, 80% of which are just black text.
