Product Description

LINKSYS WRT54G - Wireless-G is the emerging 54 Mbps wireless networking standard that's almost five times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B ( 802.11b ) products found in homes, businesses and public wireless hotspots around the country. The best part is, since they share the same 2.4GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices talk to existing 11 Mbps Wireless-B equipment. Operates as a DHCP Server NAT technology to protect against Internet intruders Supports VPN pass-through Easy configuration with web browser based configuration utility

Amazon.com Product Description

The Linksys Wireless-G broadband router is really three devices in one box. First, it's a wireless access point, which lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network. There's also a built-in four-port full-duplex 10/100 switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices. Connect four PCs directly, or daisy-chain out to more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.

To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G broadband router can encrypt all wireless transmissions, and it supports the industrial-strength wireless security of 802.1x authentication and authorization. The router can serve as a DHCP server, has NAT technology to protect against Internet intruders, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. Configuration is a snap with the Web browser-based configuration utility.

With the Linksys Wireless-G broadband router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multiplayer games with the flexibility, speed, and security you need!

Wireless-G is the 54 Mbps wireless networking standard that's more than four times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country. But since they share the same 2.4 GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices can also interoperate with existing 11 Mbps Wireless-B equipment.

Because both standards are built-in, you can protect your investment in existing 802.11b infrastructure, and migrate to the new screaming-fast Wireless-G standard as your needs grow.

For more information on the differences between an access point and a router with access point, see the following table:

access point vs. router

See a comparison diagram of the different wireless technologies.

Wireless networks are rapidly becoming more popular and coming down in price. Since they don't require cables, you can use the devices anywhere in an office or home, even out on the patio. There's no need to roll out an Ethernet network cable to each room of a house; you can network anywhere--without wires. Outside the home, wireless networking is available in hotspots at coffee shops, businesses, and airports--great when you're on the road and need to get some work done. For convenience, wireless networking is the answer.

Which Wireless Standard Is Right for Me?
Now that you've decided to create a wireless network, the next step is to figure out which wireless standard to use.

Basically, a standard is a set of specifications for a device. All devices that follow a specific standard share operating characteristics, such as the radio frequency used and maximum data transfer speed.

For wireless networking, there are three standards to choose from at this time:

  • 802.11b
  • 802.11a
  • 802.11g

5 out of 5 stars Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router Review.......2007-09-27

I haven't really had a problem with this router. It's lightweight and easy to set up. All my devices pick it up well. It was a good buy and I'd recommend it to anyone.

4 out of 5 stars Overall, I recommend this to anyone that owns a second computer for nonessential matters........2007-09-27

I purchased this router from Circuit City (by the way, no one at Circuit City was helpful, but since I didn't want to wait for it to arrive, I decided to go to the store and purchase this) in March. I've have had fairly little trouble with it. Prior to purchasing this, I unknowingly thought that I already had a router. Because my second (wireless) computer was picking up a connection with a Netgear adapter. But (I have since learned) that must have been a neighbor's because I only had a Westell modem from Verizon that did not come with a router.

This router was a little tricky hooking up. Verizon walked me through it, though. Actually, I only purchased this brand because Verizon told me that they would not provide tech support if I purchased another manufacturer's brand. I suppose that doesn't matter too much because Linksys was the least expensive. I was on the phone with Verizon for over an hour until it was set up.

A couple of months ago, I completely lost a connection on my wireless computer. I called Netgear (the manufacturer of my adapter) and was told to call Linksys. Linksys was helpful, although it was difficult to understand them because they were located in India. The Linksys associate told me that my connection was erased because of a bad storm (does anyone else think this is an odd explanation?) and she did walk me through setting up a new wireless network from the adapter to the router.

Since my wireless computer has been set up I have had no difficulty keeping a connection. Every once in a while I will lose a connection (on my wireless computer) and usually if I turn my router on and off my wireless computer will regain a connection. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone that has a second computer like myself for nonessential matters.

It seems like none of these companies (Verizon, Linksys and Netgear) train their employees to "think outside the box." That is very frustering and disapointing. They all acted like it was unusual for someone to have 2 desktops in their home. They always automatically assumed that one of my computers was a laptop. And, when they found out that I had AOL they also found this to be odd. I was being looked down on because I had a second computer with AOL hooked up to it. It's like checking into a Marriott Hotel and paying cash; you know that look the hourly desk clerk gives? One gentleman even sarcastically said, "AOL is infested with bugs." But it isn't any of their business what software I choose to have on my computers. Because, they should be trained to welcome all customers no matter what situation their customer is in. Another thing I learned is that you should always speak up. Always ask questions, no matter how foolish you may think it is. That is what they are there for!

5 out of 5 stars Super easy home wireless router.......2007-09-27

Whether you are a pro or not with computers you can set this up. Easy to use instructions. We got the router and read the instructions first (contrary to most human nature) and found it easy to install both the hardware and software. We hooked this up to our desktop computer while we waited for our laptop to arrive. Due to Dell's delivery delay we did not install the wireless laptop for some time afterwards. The instructions for setting up the laptop went flawlessly, we were wireless on the new laptop in less than 30 minutes and that includes the time to unpack the laptop. It is handy to have an extra LAN cable for easy installation (which we had). Great job with hardware and technical support.

5 out of 5 stars Works like it should!.......2007-09-27

I ordered this because we needed both computers in our house to have internet access. I have to take online classes this fall and my husband likes to play fantasy football, check scores/weather etc. So it's just easier to have one internet connection do double duty. It was very easy to set up and works perfectly! We're very happy with this product. Thanks!

4 out of 5 stars Very good replacement for previous Linksys wireless router.......2007-09-26

This router has proved to be very reliable, but was not so straight forward to install. I thought I would be able to do an easy swap out, bu it required a call to Linksys support before I got it working, and they had me use a different IP address, no sure why.

Overall, very good. Would recommend.

The display also helps you control hands-free calling, traffic alerts, and the FM transmitter, all from the screen of your personal travel assistant.

The nüvi 660, along with its counterparts, the nüvi 360 and nüvi 310, integrate Bluetooth wireless technology with a microphone and speaker that lets you make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nüvi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. Making and taking calls on the road has never been easier, or safer. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log.

With this GPS system on board you'll be prepared to steer clear of traffic with the integrated FM TMC traffic receiver. 4 out of 5 stars Almost all seeing and all knowing in a box.......2007-09-25

From a guy who has no sense of direction and who can't remember a stranger's directions after the second turn after the third light, this thing is a life saver and downright fun. It was the highest rated GPS on Consumer Reports and is a little wider than other cheaper models. The graphics are very clear and the colors leave little to guess at. I love the computation that tells you when you will arrive and it adjusts itself to reflect an updated estimate which is usually correct to the minute. There's also an alternate screen that shows your gps measured speed, top speed, average speed, miles progressed and miles to go. Other screens give you information about eating establishments, gas stations, hotels at a touch of a button. After selecting one, say for a rest stop, it will insert the diversion as part of your route so when you leave it gets you back on track. Why 4 stars and not 5? At times it has been a little ambiguous and I wound up straying off course very briefly. But when that happens it tells you it is recalculating and corrects your misinterpretation, so all is forgiven. I've been amazed at how it seems to know the names of even the most insignificant spur of a street. I'd give it 4 3/4 stars if possible. If you need one buy this one, you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Love My Nuvi.......2007-09-24

We bought the 660 to take on a trip from KC Mo to Houston, moving our son there. The Nuvi helped on Highways, local streets, finding food & gas, plus store locations in Houston once we got there. Nice size display & easy to follow. Liked the advance warnings of which lane to stay in on 6 lane hiways, moving fast. Only thing I can't imagine is how a single driver could change screens etc by him/herself while whipping down busy streets, if it were attached to the windshield. I held ours while someone else drove. Miss Nuvi is my new best friend.

3 out of 5 stars I love/hate it!.......2007-09-24

This is my first GPS nav device, so I don't know if my experiences are common to most GPS users, but I find the NUVI 660 as mixed a bag of love and hate as anything I've ever bought.

First the love. The navigation function is great. Lots of points of interest and the interface, for the most part is o.k.(more on that in the hates). Since I know my way to work, the nav function doesn't get that regular a work out. However I do use its bluetooth capabilities which work great. I also use it to play audio books I store on my SD card. Also great. Really great.

The hates. The sound - amplifier/speaker combo sucks big time. I've had to return the unit twice because the sound went out. Even at max volume, you can't hear the unit with your windows down, or in traffic. This is a major advantage of oem nav systems that come with cars. They use the amp and speakers of the cars stereo. But then they're not portable from car to car which I like since I have three cars. Hate number 2. The interface uses sequence keypad instead of a QWERTY. This makes typing an address or place name a major pain and is simple enough to correct in software.

Even though I'm on my 3rd unit, I still love it for the bluetooth and audio book capabilities. You just need an aux input on your car stereo so you can plug into the head phone jack on the nuvi so you can hear the thing.

4 out of 5 stars Very helpful!.......2007-09-22

I bought this before leaving for a vacation to Hawaii. I was so happy I did. Since then I've traveled out of state a few times and it has been such a help in getting around different places. The best features are that it is very simple to use, has a nice sized easy to read screen, and verbally gives clear directions. I did have an issue with the "blue tooth" part, I was trying to utilize the blue tooth feature with my cell phone. It worked okay, but then at one point started this "blue tooth updating" drama and would not allow me to change screens, it just froze up with the updating. It would get to 80%, then freeze. Luckily after multiple attempts, I was able to get out of that screen. Don't expect perfection. Sometimes it takes you on longer routes. However, overall it gets you where you need to go and saves you a lot of stress when driving in unfamiliar territory.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent product.......2007-09-21

After much deliberation between various GPS devices, I settled on the 660.
So far, after about a month of usage, I have yet to find a downside. Good screen size and very good brilliance. I'm very glad that this model has voice, without which, I would not have been a happy camper. However, as an insignificant side note, when you deviate from the suggested route, the female voice says, "recalculate" in a tone of voice that I swear is condescending. In any event, recovery with the new route is quick and accurate. After one month of operation, I have found the unit to be approximately 98% accurate...Close enough for both government work as well as myself.

The enclosed window mount was useless to me as it is illegal in California to affix a GPS to the windshield. I opted to purchase the friction mount from Amazon. It arrived, however the connector between the bean-bag and the 660 was missing. If you go this route, be sure to order the complete unit for aprox. $1 more. My fault, not Amazons. I called Garmin for help. They asked me if I had purchased the unit from them. My negative answer didn't seem to phase them in the least. It was in stock and they would send one out. The part to arrive in from 3-5 days. The cost? Nada! I damn near fainted. Where does one encounter such a similar customer oriented firm these days? It turns out that the representative I spoke to used a 660 as his own personal GPS.
As far as the traffic data portion is concerned, I may or may not purchase the add-on when the free aspect runs out...3 months from now. It might be more beneficial in areas other than Los Angeles where most of the freeways are displayed in red (bad news) most of the time. But then...

Bottom line -- As far as the fairly naive user goes, it more than hits the mark. Add to that the great attitude of Garmins customer service.

This unit comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded NavTeq City Navigator NT street maps for both North America and Europe, and includes a hefty points of interest (POIs) database with hotels, restaurants, fuel stops, ATMs and more. Simply touch the super-bright, sunlight-readable color screen to enter a destination, and the 370 takes you there with either 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. This navigator voice even announces the name of exits and streets so you never have to take your eyes off the road, and can concentrate on your driving to keep yourself and your loved ones safe. In addition, the 370 accepts custom points of interest (POIs), such as school zones and safety cameras, and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs that require your special consideration such as speed zones and safety cameras.

Speaking of keeping you safe, the nüvi 370 lets you make hands-free calls so you can talk freely during your worry-free driving. By integrating Bluetooth wireless technology with a built-in microphone and speaker, you can pair your nüvi with any compatible Bluetooth phone and talk hands-free while staying focused on the road. You no longer have to fumble with your phone's handset to answer a call or dial a number, just tap the 370's screen and you're instantly connected. And with 1-touch dialing for your POIs, you can quickly and conveniently call ahead to make reservations or get needed information.

You can also avoid tie-ups and steer clear of traffic with the nüvi 370's integrated FM TMC traffic receiver. This unit allows you to receive alerts about road construction and traffic problems that lie ahead on your route. Simply touch the nüvi's screen to view traffic details or change your route so you can detour around the problem area. All of which can be customized with configurable vehicle icons that let you choose individual car-shaped icons in a variety of colors that show your position on the map.

In additional to all this functionality, the nüvi 370 includes many must-have entertainment and travel tools such as an MP3 player, an audio book player (subscription to Audible.com required), and a JPEG picture viewer so you can take your favorite music and pictures with you wherever you go. This unit also features a world travel clock with time zones, a currency converter, a measurement converter, and a calculator so that wherever you travel it will be easy to know what you are getting and keep track of your costs. The MP3 player lets you browse music by artist, album, and/or song, while the optional audio books may be purchased from Audible.com which features over 70,000 hours of audio programs. What's more, the nüvi 370 allows further customization via optional software such as travel guide, savings programs and language translation on plug-and-play SD cards for all your travel needs.

The Garmin nüvi 370 comes with a built-in, high-sensitivity, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver, and lets you view and operate it via its bright, LCD TFT touch-screen display that measures 2.8 x 2.1 inches (W x H) and has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels with 64,000 colors and a white backlight. As a whole, the nüvi 370 measures 3.87 x 2.91 x 0.87 inches (W x H x D), and weighs only 5.1 ounces for easy portability. This unit provides you with from four to eight hours of battery life (depending on use) via its rechargeable lithium-ion battery, and comes with Garmin Lock, which is an anti-theft feature to protect your investment. While you can add software via the SD card slot, the Garmin nüvi 370 also lets you interface via high-speed USB for loading data, though users should note that, like most USB mass storage devices, this unit is not compatible with Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Me.

What's in the Box
Garmin nüvi 370, City Navigator NT maps for North America and Europe (preloaded, full coverage), FM traffic receiver, vehicle suction cup mount, AC charger, vehicle power cable, dashboard disk, USB cable, carrying case, quick reference guide and, owner's manual.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Very useful but needs improvement.......2007-09-26

This is the first GPS I have owned but I have used other GPS before in Rental cars and in-car GPS. Overall I will recommend this GPS.

Review:
1) Maps were quite up to date and Garmin provides the free update for the latest maps for 2008. To get the update one has to register in the Garmin's website and provide the serial number of the device. It takes around a month to get the update from Garmin.
2) Routing is very good but sometime it is slightly incorrect or quirky. The device routes me through two different routes from my home to the highway without any specific reason. Though the distance is very similar, one of the roads has more traffic light and is slower. I am yet to find a reason why the device choses one route over the other on certain days.
3) The text to speech is really useful. You don't have to take your eyes off the road to check the map to make the turn.
4) Bluetooth phone integration works very well. The audio quality is not the best that I have heard but it is definitely better than most of the bluetooth speaker phones. Coupled with that you can enable the Bluetooth "push' feature if your phone allows it. This enables you to see the phone's directory on-screen along with call history. The coolest feature that I have found is to able to listen to the SMS that you receive while driving.
5) Traffic routing works well in my area i.e "San Francisco Bay Area". I have also used the traffic routing in Denver and it worked very well. Although the traffic system needs few updates which I believe is possible since TMC provides these information. The traffic incident report is typically quite vague. It says "slow traffic" or "accumulating traffic" on the highways. It will be much more useful if the actual speed on the highway is also mentioned. I have seen that sometime the slow traffic implies 20 mph and sometime it is 50 mph. It is often very difficult to decide to avoid the traffic bottleneck based on these information. Also the time taken for the traffic information to update is slow. It is almost close to realtime in my experience for building up the traffic delay but it takes way more time to clear the incident report. I think this will help if Garmin includes speed data in the traffic report.
6) The suction mount works well. My car has a flat region on the dashboard so it was much easier to mount.
7) GTM-12 traffic receiver is not integrated in the GPS. Often it is a hassle to connect the traffic receiver.
8) POIs are not that extensive.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing product at a decent price.......2007-09-26

I had a choice of the Nuvi 360 vs. Nuvi 370 and with european maps preloaded, getting the 370 made more sense. Getting the european maps separately costs over a 100$. This also has a traffic receiver which is NOT integrated. It is a separate attachment which is pretty small, nevertheless not integrated. Voice prompts are great and I haven't tried listening to music or an audiobook but the good part is that it will stop playing when it has to mention the next turn and will resume play after that.

Great product!

3 out of 5 stars Okay, but could be a lot better.......2007-09-24

I've had my Nuvi 370 for about a month. I also have a Lowrance iWay 500C. The Nuvi is excellent for someone who always uses a device as-is out of the box. If you want to customize the display, you're mostly out of luck as few features can be changed by the user. My personal dislikes are the unchangable display of the useless and inaccurate "arrival time" and the lack of any way to modify the types of information displayed. Also, the text size and location of information on the screen can't be modified. The Lowrance allows the user to pick and choose items to display and allows the text size to be changed. The one advantage of the Nuvi is that it's size and weight make it easily carried in a shirt pocket.

5 out of 5 stars Best Purchase - Nuvi in Ireland.......2007-09-23

Needless to say, the 5-star ranking does not do this product any justice. After our trip to Ireland, I would have to say that this is the best piece of electronic equipment that I have ever purchased. Simply put, it saved time, money and my marriage.

Driving can be hard enough in Ireland, much less worrying about taking a random third turn on a bloody roundabout. (Fellas, you know what I'm talking about...driving in a foreign country on the wrong side of the road/car, with your wife routinely "white knuckling" the hand rest on the door every time a car approaches going 120km/hr.) Simply follow the directions given and get where you're going with no navigational anxiety. This is what makes the Garmin so great.

"Maggie" (affectionately known to us) proved to be about 95% accurate in her navigational skills, leaving the other 5% up to the imagination of the traveler. Now, some people might have a different view on traveling on dirt roads, but we thoroughly enjoyed these little 5% "safaris" that Maggie decided to take us on. They provided some absolutely unbelievable views that we would have completely missed had we used a map and stayed on the highway. These can also be avoided if you DON'T select the fastest/shortest route option.

It is true that she gives the street names for every turn, which some might find to be annoying. Alternatively, we found her attempts to be hilarious when trying to pronounce such streets as "Kilmacanogh-Gledullagh Rd". Truthfully, we didn't pay attention to the names that much anyway, since we saw a grand total of three proper street signs in over 12 hours of driving. Just listen to the "right" or "left", and watch the distance meter to turn and you'll be just fine.

One feature of this product which helped greatly was the ability to program in a destination to get a rough ETA when planning the day. One surprise that we encountered was the total miscalculation of driving time when planning the trip. A 40 mile trip in Ireland could take as long as 3 hours which seems impossibly ridiculous, but it's true. The Garmin ("Mags") nailed each trip within 15 minutes.

The walking mode also came in handy in both the streets of Dublin, and various hiking trails. Again, very accurate ETA's.

All in all, I would highly recommend this product after two weeks of near constant use in Ireland, and three months here in the States. No defects, no complaints and no regrets.

3 out of 5 stars Stumbles in Italy.......2007-09-23

Works well in the US but has definite problems manuvering in Italy. Was better than nothing - especially in pedestrian mode - helping to find the way home, but maps are unacceptably incomplete and you are left looking at big blank areas or unable to find a way out. In vehicle navigation was so good that we abandoned the Nuvi. Also the MArco Polo Guide was not very handy.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I am very happy with my new Wacom Intous3........2007-09-22

I am an adult student who has gone back to school for graphic design. I really wanted to get a Wacom tablet but wasn't sure which to invest in. I did a lot of research both on Wacom's site and reading reviews at various sites, including Amazon. In the end I decided to go with the Intuos 3 instead of the Graphire 4. It seemed that the Intuos was specifically more for the professional designer, where as the Graphire more geared for personal and hobby use. I have not used a Graphire so cannot comment on this. However I am very happy with my Intuos. I went with a 6x8 size and feel this is perfect. Any bigger and it would take up more room and be harder to commute with. And smaller and it would be harder to draw with. I have only had this a week but I love it. Yes, there is a learning curve. But I am able to to use this without much hassel right out of the box. I highly recommend this product. I used it with photoshop and illustrator.

5 out of 5 stars Is a 6x8 the perfect all around tablet?.......2007-09-21

So in all honesty if money were no object I would be reviewing a Wacom Cintiq 21x right now. After seeing a video of someone drawing on one I HAD to have it for doing my illustrations but alas I was short on funds for the full fledged digital drawing experience and decided that a good way to tide me over would be to order a new Wacom Intuos3 tablet. Next stop on the mental choo-choo train was exactly what size tablet should I get? If you are stuck with this same dilemma and short on funds to boot, I highly recommend the 6x8. For awhile I was under the impression that only a 9x12 would do and came very close to ordering one, but now that I've had some time with my 6x8 I think it was money well saved. Yes, the 9x12 would be roomier for longer drawing arcs (and may still be in my future)but not only is the 6x8 almost half the price but it fits nicely on my desktop right in front of my keyboard. All of my fears that the drawing surface would be too small are more than quelled. I've worked with it almost everyday since receiving it a week or so ago and have no complaints. If you are new to a drawing tablet in general make sure you spend plenty of time tweaking the pen sensitivity, buttons, etc to match your drawing style. The pressure sensitivity is amazing and Wacom really does make an awesome product and I am extremely happy with my purchase. Well that's my two cents and I hope some of you out there had the same questions I did. Now if only I could get my hands on a Cintiq...

5 out of 5 stars Productivity and Creativity Enhancement Tool.......2007-09-19

Yep, that's what they should call the Wacom Intuos3 Pen Tablet. When you factor in the software that comes with it (Photoshop Elements and Corel Essentials), the Tablet was a great bargain. I had been struggling with the GIMP 2.2 and my mouse so long that it caught me by surprise how free and liberating I felt the first time using it. The only thing is that with my widescreen laptop, it might have been nicer to buy a size smaller. That is because a little extra effort is required to sweep my hands across from one side to the other in times when I need to click on a particular tool. That is a minor nitpick, however.

4 out of 5 stars Photo editing for photographers.......2007-09-19

I don't know why it took so long for me to get one of these things. With all the photo retouching I do in Photoshop for my customers, I could have shaved off SO MUCH TIME with this thing over the years. Well, I have to say just in the short time using this that it is a going to be a real boost. The low end of the pressure sensitivity could stand a little more range of pressures. I have a light touch and I'd appreciate more sensitivity at the bottom end. Otherwise, for things like the clone tool, you can have Photoshop vary the opacity of the tool making touch-ups with said tool more organic - like drawing with a lead pencil - instead of mechanical. The integration with Photoshop is awesome. Not nearly enough time to talk about it. REALLY makes me with I could draw really well - this thing is an amazing tool to take the tremendous range of input via the human hand and translate it into computer input. Really astounding. If you can do ANY drawing and shading with lead or colored pencils, give yourself a few hours with this thing and you'll be grinning while thinking of all the possibilities. If you're not an artist, don't bother getting a lager unit - this is very large but I'm glad I have the extra space in case I get use to having it. Prepare yourself for the size of this thing - much larger than the 6x8 drawing area. I could easily have done with the next size down and not missed the extra drawing space.

5 out of 5 stars Woot for Wacom.......2007-09-13

So much love for this product, I read the reviews, I know it "scratches" easy, but so do all the nicest things I own ;) This purchase is one of the best I've made!

5 out of 5 stars Not what is advertised.......2007-09-25

In general, I will give this Sandisk product a 5-star ***** rating.
BUT, this specific product is not as good as advertised. The Amazon
web page states that is product works will all Type 1 Compact Flash
digital cameras. IT DOES NOT ! I have a Nikon Coolpix 3100,
and it does not recognize that CF card. It asks you if you want to
format it, and then once it does, it states that it is out of memory.
You cannot take a picture with it installed in the camera. Nikon
states that the camera can use Type 1 CF cards of 512 MB and maybe 1 GB.
Well, I have been able to use Sandisk Type 1 512 MB, and 2 GB Ultra II
CF cards with no problem, but it cannot handle the 4 GB Ultra II Type 1
CF card. Sandisk's Ultra II 4 GB card is a fine product: my Compaq
laptop sees it as a 4 GB (minus formatting) HD just fine when I install
it in the PCMCIA slot. The problem here is that the digital camera cannot
recogize this size CF card, but the web page description says that it
works in ALL Type 1 CF card digital cameras.

5 out of 5 stars Too satisfied.......2007-09-13

I bought this memory card to use it with a Canon Rebel XTi. I think that this size is the perfect size: more would take too much time to copy on HDD, less would mean fewer pictures.
I haven't noticed any speed problems, the combination of the camera and the card assures the enough number of photos on the running mode.
The problem that I have right now is that I need space to download the photos from the card. Also, it MUST be used with an usb card reader 2.0 because using an 1.1 will take alot of time for the copying.

1 out of 5 stars Product defective.......2007-09-13

5 out of 5 stars Lots of Hi Rez pictures.......2007-09-07

Now that I'm getting into much bigger files with my new Canon camera, I needed a larger memory card. I've been very happy with this card and I usually try to go with SanDisk because I never had any problems with their memory in the past. Whether I format on my camera or reader the results are great. It does take longer but after all this is a big memory card. Price was good and the shipping was very fast. I'm very happy!

5 out of 5 stars 4GB is a whole lot of pictures.......2007-08-30

I just got a Canon digital camera and bought this 4GB memory card. On my first outing with the new camera I took 190 pictures, full size, highest resolution and didn't even use a full GB of memory. I couldn't believe the capacity.

3 out of 5 stars It works.......2007-09-22

I bought this because it seemed to have more consistent reviews than the really cheap chargers, but was much less expensive than the high-priced chargers. The connector to the iPod is a bit stiff, but it works fine.

5 out of 5 stars More Than Expected.......2007-09-13

Excellent charger. Actually, charges iPod faster than advertised. Excellent product and well worth the cost. (at least from where I purchased the item) So far, I have charged my iPod several times with no problem. One day, three of us charged our iPods right after each other with no problems. I recommend the charger. AND it costs ALOT less than the chargers in the stores.

5 out of 5 stars Great Buy!.......2007-08-31

Great product and I'm very satisfied with my purchase. I own a 30gig video ipod and the charger works perfect with it.

5 out of 5 stars Deal for the $$.......2007-08-30

Excellent. Needed it for a recent trip. Worked well and no problems with iPod and iPod Nano. Much less expensive than any I could find in any store and works well. I would recommend this product.

5 out of 5 stars a bargain!.......2007-08-28

this charger REALLY works... don't be fooled by the price.. i have to admit that i was doubting my purchase.. since the price for it was $0.01 !!! BUT it's great... a downside, when you're charging your ipod AND listening to it, you're ipod might freeze... no worries.. just disconnect and re-connect.. but don't listen to it anymore, unless it's done charging..

but the downside isn't even a bad thing... it works absolutely great and it's a great price... go ahead and save some money... buy it!

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Good value for the money.......2007-09-27

Pro:
1. Work as expected.
2. Good speed.
3. USB ports powered when computer is off/suspend, if you use external power. (The D-Link 7 port hub does not have this feature!)
4. Good price

Con:
1. Hard mount is not really useful
2. The base should be attached to the hub by default
3. Sharp edge if the base is not attached
4. Why the LED is sooooooooooo bright?

3 out of 5 stars I think mine was defective.......2007-09-23

I read the reviews, it looked like what I needed, so I ordered one. Mine might have been defective, because it was loud, quite loud. I've never had a USB Hub that has made any noise, but this one had a very high pitched whine to it, at all times, also I thought the light was to bright, great size and layout of the USB ports, I don't think I'll try another one of these.

4 out of 5 stars 7 Port USB 2.0 Hub.......2007-09-14

Great little hub to keep everything connected & handy. I like the aluminum finish, & the weight of it. I also like the option to plug it into an AC outlet & make it a POWERED USB hub. This is important for many peripherals. The blue light on top makes it easy to find, but is verry bright at night, almost like a blue flashlight shining a cone onto the adjacent wall. The unit easily slides out of the aluminum "base tray" if needed. This is my only caveat with the unit. I wish it had a way to lock the hub into the tray so it would not be so easy to slide out when you don't want to remove it.
Overall, I am well pleased with my purchase, & would definately recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it's supposed to do........2007-09-12

Having the slots on the front and back of the hub works really well in my situation. It is quite compact.

5 out of 5 stars Solid, simple, very practical.......2007-09-10

Unlike other items that cannot stand on their own because of the weight of cables attached, this one can comes with a metal base that can be mounted on a wall. The hub slides in and out of the base easily. This thing is all metal: it feel solid very well designed.

I'm getting a second one.
It's worth it.

4 out of 5 stars rating on this camera.......2007-09-27

We have many other cameras. Some SLRs both Digital and Film and have also has a few compact ones such as this. We wanted this one because of the 10X and the lens which is made for this one by Lecia.

However it will not take the place of our other cameras I do wish it had a view finder not just the current way many makers and this one also of just giving you the big back screen to use as a viewfinder.

However we do like this one to add to collection.

5 out of 5 stars LUMIX-TZ3A is a wonderful digital camera.......2007-09-26

I have a Lumix FZ30 that I love. We purchased the TZ3A to have similar performance in a smaller camera. So far it has met all of our expectations. The menus and controls are great and the pictures we have taken are very high quality. I just love the image stabilization.

5 out of 5 stars A Short Story in Unbelievable.......2007-09-25

Here's the set-up: Three kids, a forgetful mommy, a valiant husband plus 65 mph traffic equals a serious little camera.

I'm going to start with the standard: 'I have never left a review before BUT...' This camera is everything that other reviewers have said and more.

I'm going to discuss the 'more' part.

I bought the DMC-TZ3K after nearly a month of deliberation in order to commemorate the birth of our third child. (And because our old digital camera is 6 years old, and has 2.1 mega pixels. I'm pretty sure it's run by a tiny hamster on a treadmill.)

ANYWAY, I bought it because I found a website where they solely review digital cameras: dcresource.com. This site is extremely helpful. In the end, I was convinced because the reviewer had ended up buying this camera for his dad.

SO HERE'S THE AMAZING PART, this past weekend we were heading into town (25 miles away) to get groceries and with three kids and all, I'd forgotten that I had placed the camera on top of the car. I remembered 5 miles and 65 mph later. Then we heard a clatter and saw a faint black spot flash by the back window. I thought I was going to throw up. My husband immediately pulled over and starting running back in the middle of the highway frantically waving off oncoming traffic. (In the meantime, I'm driving in reverse on the shoulder to get closer to the scene of the accident should my husband's selfless run amid 65 mph traffic end in a not so nice way)

So he grabs the camera from the middle of the road, and a few feet over to the side, finds the battery resting dustily in the gravel. He brings them both back to me, and despite running mascara blurring my vision, I open the battery cover, pop in the battery and switch on the camera and--It's a miracle! I am greeted by the last picture I took of the kids at the park. I set it on camera mode and took a picture of my confused, yet happy brood. IT WORKED!! It does looks like a pack of wild dogs tried to use it, with the screen pretty scratched up around the edges, a serious gouge on the metal part of the Leica lens and some nicks on the body. But this little camera ain't gettin' kicked off the island, that's for sure.

Stop searching. Buy this camera.

5 out of 5 stars A fun little camera.......2007-09-20

I like the large view screen and the 10x zoom. The compact body fits in a shirt pocket.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to use. Great results........2007-09-15

I'm fairly handy with tech gadgets, but simple is better. I'm relying on "scene" settings so I don't need to tinker with ISO's, F stops and the like.
Kids running around: "sports."
Out on the town after dark with friends: "night portrait."
I can't imagine a more user friendly camera. Look forward to shooting snow, sunsets, fireworks, etc.

I'm getting used to not having a view finder, although still wish I had one, if only to steady the camera against my face. I guess advanced image stabilizing makes LCD screens and 10x zoom lenses more practical. Admittedly we greatly appreciate the 3 inch screen. Now the kids always want to see the shot right after it's taken. It's fun. The screen is glorious.

As far as motion pictures, I find it hard to believe people regularly use this camera in place of their camcorder; nonetheless, it is handy to have the capability on hand at all times.

The AV cable works well to plug the camera into the front of a big screen TV. We watched the pictures of a birthday dinner last night while we all ate cake back at the house.

I'm wondering when Lumix will put out a new version of this camera with more mega pixels. I notice when I blow up pictures on the computer screen, the quality quickly deteriorates. Where's the 10 or 12 MP pocket-sized Lumix with 10x zoom? I know, I want it all now.

Recommend you buy a USB card reader. They're cheap, and you can scroll from picture to picture with almost no lag time. Not so with the USB cable linked to the camera.

The 4GB card is great, but in hindsight, 2 2GB cards might have been more practical, if only to make it super simple to keep topics separate when, for example, viewing a slide show of the day's event with the participants. Guess I'll need to move further along the camera's learning curve to partition my card.

In sum, the camera is everything as advertised, and more.

Advanced Wireless and GPS Technology
At the heart of the StreetPilot c550 is a high-sensitivity WAAS-capable GPS receiver by SiRF that provides outstanding acquisition times and the ability to maintain a strong signal under heavy foliage and near city skyscrapers. This means you'll always know precisely where you are. Meanwhile, an automotive-grade, sunlight-readable, 2.8 x 2.1-inches (WxH) anti-glare TFT LCD touch-screen display offers easy readability. With dimensions of 4.4 x 3.2 x 2.2-inches (WxHxD), and at about nine ounces in weight, the StreetPilot c550 features a streamlined design that will fit easily on any dashboard with the included vehicle suction mount. The unit also features Garmin Lock -- an advanced anti-theft feature that disables the unit from performing any functions until you type in a specific four-digit PIN or take the unit to a predetermined location.

The StreetPilot c550 also includes Bluetooth technology integrated with a microphone and dual speakers that lets you make hands-free mobile phone calls on a compatible Bluetooth wireless phone. You can view incoming calls on your c550, and simply tap the screen to answer. Just speak into the built-in microphone while staying focused on your driving. In addition, you can retrieve and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or the phone's call history log. You can also make calls from the more than six million points of interest database -- which includes hotels, restaurants, stores, and much more.

Another feature unique to the c550 is its integrated traffic capabilities. The c550 includes the GTM 20, an integrated FM TMC traffic receiver with a free three-month trial subscription (for U.S. customers only). The GTM 20 notifies you of traffic conditions, construction and weather delays, and automatically suggests alternative routes. The navigator also comes with preloaded maps of Europe or North America and includes automatic routing, 2D or 3D map perspective, and turn-by-turn voice directions that speak street names -- making navigation as easy as it gets. An included MP3 player lets you enjoy music from your digital collection while you drive, and an included SD memory card expansion slot means that you can load optional software, such as language and travel guides -- making travel even easier and more entertaining than ever.

What's in the Box

5 out of 5 stars Fast shipment, great product!.......2007-09-28

Very fast shipment, came on date as promised! Fantastic product! I just moved to a new city, and there is no way I could have gotten around without getting lost without the Garmin C550! It has saved me so much time driving and has also gotten me out of a few traffic jams! Love it!
:-)

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Navigation System.......2007-09-19

I have had the c550 for a few weeks now and love the Bluetooth capability. The maps are right on and easy to read. The traffic alerts that came with the unit are not as accurate. It will alert me to an accident up ahead but when I reach that point there is no sign of it. Unless the traffic reports become more accurate, I will not spend the $60 for a yearly subscription. Other than that I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Love it.......2007-09-19

I'm not an early adopter, and could have gone through life just fine without one of these, but... my away-at-college, freshman daughter called last week wanting to visit a friend in another city over fall break. She's never driven cross-country alone, and never been to the city she wants to drive to next week, and she's only been driving for two years... "hmmm, sounds like a good excuse to try out one of those Garmin things," I thought. A friend put me on to Garmin's stock last November, I've almost tripled my money in that investment, so I thought it was worth looking into... if the stock's doing that well, there must be something to the product, right?

I'm completely sold on these things, and although I was confused before purchase, simply because of the huge number of devices offered by Garmin, I think I made the right choice. As far as I can tell, this model is the least expensive one that comes with Bluetooth capability. I find that very handy. Not only can you talk on your cell phone through the c550 as if it were a speaker-phone, make & receive calls as well as text messages, it will also load your cell phone's phone book... you can scroll down the list of names & numbers in your cell phone right on the Garmin's touch-screen... much easier to do when driving than having to look down at your phone. Even better, this device can connect to as many as 5 different bluetooth devices (one at a time). Every member of my immediate family now has their cell-phone tied to the Garmin... you can switch what's "Bluetoothed" to the Garmin via a few strokes on the touch-screen... very easy to do.

My only gripes are these: the info is a little dated... for example, some restaurants shown in the c550 don't exist any more, in some cases for a year or more... maybe they should try to update that list as often as they update the street maps. That doesn't bother me a great deal, but some. The only real gripe I have is that the speakers don't work as well as I wish they did. In a really, really quiet car, they're fine. You don't have to turn the Garmin's volume up all the way and you can hear as well as understand the directions. In a car that has the least bit of road noise, like mine, I have to turn up the volume all the way, so that the speech comes out a little distorted, and it makes me think I may blow the speakers by keeping it turned up to max. volume all the time. The speakers are on the sides of the device, toward the back... I assume they were too big to put on the front of the box, but where they are now aims them at the sides of the car... if they can't be in front, would they be better in the back if they were aimed at the windshield? Maybe more sound would bounce off the windshield back to me better? I'll leave that to Garmin's designers... it's something that would improve the device in my opinion.

All-in-all, very happy. This is one cool, useful gadget. Love the Bluetooth capability, don't really need the mp3 player. This is a very, very easy device to use too.
