A remote with serious problems and horrible support.......2007-09-26
The Harmony 890 remote (Logitech Harmony 890 Advanced Universal Remote Control)
Reviewer experience level: Electronics hobbiest; considerable experience with both PCs and consumer electronic devices
I've owned this remote since December of 2006. Since then, I've had three major problems with it. In all three cases, tech support was awful.
In the first two instances, efforts to program / update the remote failed because of errors in Logitech's web-based programming utility. The first problem occurred when I tried to program the remote for the first time. I kept getting a Java error mid-way through the programming process. Eventually, after trying every troubleshooting trick I could find on the Logitech website, I called tech support. The initial tech support operator absolutely refused to believe that I wasn't doing something wrong in the programming process, and kept trying to talk me through the process over and over. Finally I was transferred to someone who knew what they were talking about. That person admitted that the problem was due to a programming error on the web site, and suggested that I "try again in a few days." They finally fixed the problem, and I was able to do the obligatory firmware update and program the remote and RF receiver, but having a brand new remote that I couldn't program for several days because of a software error by the manufacturer left me less than impressed. Sadly, that was the easiest of the problems to resolve.
A few months later, in early 2007, I changed TVs and needed to reprogram the remote and receiver. Once again, the programming process bombed, and once again I got to listen to a tech support operator who seemed convinced that I couldn't possibly be seeing the error I was reporting. After spending hours on the phone with tech support over a couple of days - most of it on hold, listening to snippets of classical music and unhelpful "hints" replayed incessantly - I was finally transferred to someone at Level 2 tech support who was able to tell me that I was experiencing a known problem, and that it could only be corrected by (guess what?!) programming changes at the Logitech end. Once again the problem was eventually corrected, but by this time the pattern was established -- try to program the remote, experience a problem in the web-based programming software, call tech support, talk to someone who tries to tell you that you're not doing something properly, be persistent, spend an hour or three on hold, and eventually get to talk to someone who can, sooner or later, fix the problem. That's not, in my opinion, a very good model for product support.
The latest adventure, and the one that finally prompted me to write a review of (or, more correctly, a warning about) this remote, occurred in September, 2007. The remote began experiencing recharging problems, so I carefully cleaned the contacts on the charger, remote, and battery. The problems persisted, and soon the remote wouldn't recharge at all. After visiting the online troubleshooting guide to check for known problems and advice, I connected the remote to a USB port and found that it would power up. This narrowed the problem down to either a bad battery or a bad charger. So... another call to tech support, another referral to the mysterious and elusive Level 2 support staff, and - after spending almost two hours on hold - I was able to talk with someone who didn't seem at all surprised to hear about a bad charger. Supposedly a new charger will be arriving soon; I'm not sure that I want to know what Logitech's definition of "soon" is.
During the few months that the remote worked properly, it worked very well. The problem is that the software is buggy (to say the least), the hardware is unreliable, and tech support is among the worst I've ever dealt with. The front-line tech support operators seem able to do little more than repeat the information you can find on the Logitech web site and the hold times are ridiculous. If you don't mind recurring problems, and lots of time spent on hold listening to endless repititions of basic user techniques set to classical music, then this might be the remote for you. Otherwise, I'd suggest looking for something - anything - else.
Easy Setup!.......2007-09-25
The setup was extremely simplified. I can appreciate Logitech programming the remote and the IR blaster for me and relieving me of the pain. I have the following equipment located in an electronics closet. The blaster works effectively on all my equipment, with the exception of the CD player. Due to the somewhat smaller size of the closet and larger size of the CD player I needed to use one of the four supplied emitters. But, the emitter does work well:
Yamaha RXV 1000
Motorola Digital Video Recorder
Sony 5 Disk Carousel DVD
Sony 400 Disk CD Jukebox
JVC VHS player (I can't let go.)
Nakamichi Cassette Deck (Non remote controlled but again, I can't let go.)
The wife loves it because within two steps, she's up and in full operation. My only minor qualm is that the Harmony 890 is sometimes slow to respond with my DVR and DVD player.
Definitely worth the money!
Great product - with some issues.......2007-09-23
The Harmony 890 is a great product and does what it is suppose to do as a truly universal remote. I have the same issues as other reviewers though.
1) The buttons are small and poorly labeled, that is they are hard to read. They are back lit but even in a dark room the back light is too weak. Blue light shows through the small words on the keys but the whole thing is sliver so light blue on silver doesn't provide enough contrast. Many of the buttons are very small; for example the menu selection buttons adjacent to the display are less than 1/8" wide and about 1/4" tall.
2) The connection to the charging base is poorly designed and can easily mis-connect. I have to be very careful to make sure it is in the cradle just right for it to charge.
However with the two above listed faults the unit is able to do all that I want it to. It is easy to use once set up but the setup can take quite a bit of time for more complex systems. The online database of equipment had my brand new Pioneer Elete 92 even though it was only 1 week on the market. If the on line database doesn't have all I need I can teach it by using a face-to-face learn mode from my other remotes. Finally I can reprogram just about any button.
The user interface for the PC is good even though it could be a bit easier to use.
I haven't tried the RF mode yet. I've been trying to get all the buttons programmed just the way I want them before making the switch to RF. I purchased a TV stand with no openings or glass so when I close the front doors I will be able to control everything through the RF without having equipment visible. Another advantage of the RF I'm looking forward to is I won't have to point the remote at the equipment, or being concerned about someone or something being in the way. My wife will be able to control the entertainment equipment from the kitchen without even being able to see the equipment.
Sadly Sony decided to use blue tooth for the Playstation 3 remote and the Harmony does not have a blue tooth capability. It seems to me the advantages of blue tooth will ultimately overcome the infrared and in the years to come all equipment will be remote controlled by blue tooth. I'm caught in the beginning of this change though and must use two remotes still. The harmony works for everything but the Playstation 3 though. Even my remote controlled sub-woofer can be controlled by the Harmony. Cool.
The main mode is to select an activity like watching a DVD or playing a video game, or watching TV. However one can also switch to "device" mode with the touch of a button and control the individual hardware such as the TV or amplifier with access to most functions you would find on the equipement dedicated remote.
Logitech has a winner here, it just needs a tweak in the design to make it a 5 star.
Amazon has the best price for the 908 too.
Enjoy
Clicker love.......2007-09-21
This clicker is amazing! Love it! Seriously, you have control of the TV, DVD, radio all in one device. Worth the money. No more frustration with numerous clickers.
Pretty Good Remote.......2007-09-20
I consider myself to have an intermediate knowledge of a/v stuff and was looking for a remote that was highly customizable. I've had this remote for about a month now & it does everything I ask of it. It can learn specific buttons from any remote and you can assign the learned commands just about anywhere. You can combine commands from several remotes in one activity or even one device. For example, when I select my CD player as the device, I can still control my receiver's volume without having to scroll through screens. The online programming is easy to use, although it can be time consuming if you're heavily customizing. Once it's done programming, the remote works very well. The only downside I can see is the size of the display, but it still is readable. Also, I could think of a few improvements to the programming software, but it works. I recommend this remote.

Perfect after sales support.......2007-09-27
I am a customer from Istanbul Turkey. I bought my Harmony 1000 from an estore here in Istanbul. Everything was fine untill this device does not have the needed codes for my back projection TV of Turkish origin. So I decided to let it to learn holding my old remote control in fromt of Harmony 1000. Oops it did not recognize anything. No action. I tried it with my other remote controls too. But no way. I have written it to Logitech through their web sites. They asked a few questions and without any struggle they said that they are going to replace it. So they did. After 10 days I had the new Harmony in my hands. Unfortunately the problem did not solved. So they called me back and after app. 1.5 hours struggle we manage it to learn through phone support.
I believe that this kind of support does not happen regularly. They are caring for an international customer. That's why I congratulate them.
It's a winner!!!.......2007-09-23
Was easy to proge=ram with the help of Logitechs fine customer service.
Works great!!!
Glad to have it!!!
Remote like no other.......2007-09-22
From the day I received this remote, I have been amazed at it's ability. Not only did it control my entire entertainment system in my family room, but for the most part it was easy to set up. I did have a little trouble getting it to control my PS3, but oce I purchased an IR device for the PS3 it was a snap. If you have a sea of remotes and want to throw them into a drawer and never use them again, the Logitech Harmony 1000 is the device for you!
Excellent Product.......2007-09-22
Setup was easy, even with a mix of new and 10 year old A/V equipment. Operation is straightforward. The remote does exactly what I expected it to do -- turn the correct devices on and off, with the proper settings, depending on the activity I select.
finally a universal control a human can program.......2007-09-21
What a treat after dealing with Crestron for years
this was easy and effective
they can get even better with their online editing

Logitech Remote.......2007-09-27
Does a lot, but very difficult to learn. However support is very, very good.
Good remote - buttons a bit small.......2007-09-25
Good remote, although some buttons a bit small. Used it to replace 3-4 remotes around house. The (programming) user interface is a bit annoying at first, but once you find the right links on the page, works great. I like the 'choose an activity' feature, which will basically create a macro to turn on/off multiple components. There are other harmony remotes with larger buttons or slightly different configurations, but they run a bit more expensive & I had emotional problem with spending 100 bucks on a remote :-)
You'll have to tinker with it a bit to get it to your liking - example: when I switch from satellite to DVD, I don't always want to turn off the TV & then turn on.
I'm a bit of a geek, so after toying with it for a night or two, I was good to go. The defaults will probably annoy you, but the real power of the remote is the ability to customize it extensively to your needs. You can easily tweak it & remap buttons, but it can be intimidating at first. If at first you don't succeed, try again.
I Love This Remote.......2007-09-25
This thing is way better than I ever expected! I have some equipment that never works with usual universal remotes, but these guys have codes for so many brands and models. The web programming is cool, because I know if I have to change batteries or step on it. I won't have to program again. It comes with the USB cable to download the settings to the remote.
Really the price is just about what you have to pay for a original remote for a single device. I literally use only this remote now, including a Tivo AND an HD DVR from Direct TV.
The real beauty of this thing is the activity definition. For example, when I press "play DVD" that single button turns on my T.V, turns on my audio receiver, turns on my DVD, sets the proper input on the T.V, and sets the proper input on the audio system. The volume controls the stereo sound, while the pause/forward/rewind buttons control the DVD.
I have different activities defined for things like "play Tivo with T.V. sound" or "play Tivo with Surround Sound". There are six buttons by the LCD screen that can be set to any function you want for each activity. In the unlikely event there is a specific function on your existing remote that is not accounted this remote will learn the function from your old remote.
I'm recommending this thing to everybody I know that has a decent system. Especially anyone that owns a Tivo or DVR.
Flexible remote.......2007-09-23
A few challenges getting it set up correctly, but works everything fine now. Nice to have one remote.
LOVE IT!!!.......2007-09-23
Hell has frozen over, the cows have come home, pigs have flown, the fat lady has sung. After researching universal remotes on CNET, etc., I have found one that truly controls everything that doesn't drive me to drink while trying to program it. Finding all the model numbers for my equipment was irritating as I had to move everything around, but after that it was smooth sailing.
This remote rocks!

What has a little blue screen and sits in a drawer?.......2007-09-27
Quite possibly the coolest remote ever in premise, this is impossible for three separate people in the household to program to do everything that we need it to do (and is supposedly capable of doing). We even went so far as to read the directions. We got nothing.
loved it---easy to use---I am no techie.......2007-09-25
I stink at technology and my boyfriend bought this for me. he set it up and I love it. I can change between dvds, tv,etc so easily now. I love this remote...
slow responsive control.......2007-09-25
Yes, it's a great device in ever aspect except responds very slowly to the touch of buttons. Perhaps the device software is bad but everytime you click on a button, it takes between half a second to a second for the channel to change. In case people have never noticed, a half a second delay is extremely and painfully a long period when you are changin channels and over time its wares you down. It took me a whole month to pull my hair out and throw the device away.
don't make the same mistake.
Logitech 550 Universal remote.......2007-09-24
Nice remote. Programs well, although it is not completely as intuitive as it should be. Requires a computer for setup. You have to search for one of the most common activities, watching TV, instead of the program suggesting it. Once you find the way to set it up, which is really pretty easy, it works great. Will turn off and on all your pieces of equipment to do the desired activity. Turns off my cable box and turns on my home theater and sets the channel on my TV, after turning it on as well, to Component input - when I click to watch a DVD. The volume adjustment then controls what you have set it up to. It is nice because in the TV mode, it will start the TV, start the cable box, select the appropriate channel on the TV, turn everything else off, and then the channel controls the cable box and the volume controls the TV. This is truly one remote for all your needs. The other remotes are all sitting where they belong - hidden away.
Harmony 550...GREAT product.......2007-09-23
Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote
With my HDTV, HD cable box, Bose 321 DVD/Sound system & CD player, it took FOUR remotes to operate everything. The Harmony 550 Universal Remote makes it just ONE now. Very easy to set up...load software, go to the web and pick out the models of all my equipment and update the remote via a USB cable. Works like a champ! Love it.
Product Description
Let's just say I love my home-theater system. That said, I hate all those remote controls. There's one for TV, one for the sound system, one for the DVD recorder, one for my old VCR, and one for cable-TV. Sometimes it's a frustrating challenge to figure out which is which. What a pain! A new Sony Remote Control comes to the rescue! Exciting and convenient, the RM-VL600 controls up to 8 components, and with the One-touch system control, synchronizing operational status on remote and alternate components is done with ease. Also a Learning function for programming from other remotes. Being in the driver's seat of your living room sofa is made easy with the RM-VL600 Remote Control from Sony. Uses 2 AA Alkaline Batteries for up to 1-year operation Dual beem for longer distance Memory back-up DVD menu Picture in Picture PIP control where applicable

I just love it.......2007-09-21
This the best remote for the price. It learns from any remote... like A/B switch from radioshack.. I love the macro function. It does everything that 100$ remote suppose to do. Great product.
I Like It .......2007-09-19
Me agrada mucho este control ya que puedo manejar todos mis componentes SONY sin tener que estar buscando cada control para cada compenente, ya que en uno solo manejo todos.
Good news . Bad news.......2007-09-10
The good news is that it works Sony TV and my old Magnavox VCR...Including the Program Function.
The bad news is that it dosen't work my new Sony DVD / VCR combo.
Excellent product.......2007-09-09
After reading the reviews of this product I decided to buy it. Glad I did. This is an excellent product for the money. I went from five remotes to two.
Powerful universal remote that is not overly complex.......2007-08-27
I bought this remote to replace my old One-4-All remote that wouldn't control my new Sony receiver. The Sony remote has a wide array of predefined components, and was easy to set up to control my Sony TV, Sony VCR, Sony Receiver, Sony CD player, Motorola Cable box, and Panasonic DVD player. I am very impressed with the ease of programming and the button layout. The remote has sufficient extra buttons for programming additional features for each mode, but doesn't have too many buttons to overwhelm you. As other reviews have stated, it's very easy to program this remote, and any button can be programmed to perform an alternate function, provided you have the original remote to transmit the IR code for the desired function. Since I pipe the sound for my various components through my Sony Receiver, I especially liked the feature that allows you to program the remote to send a code to the Receiver whenever a new function is chosen (e.g., choose CD on the remote, and the CD codes are activated, plus it sends a command to the Receiver to switch the audio input to CD). I expect the battery life will be quite good since the remote does not contain any LEDs or displays -- features I don't need. All-in-all, I've only had this remote for 1 day, but it has quickly become easy to use and promises to be an effective replacement for my various remotes.

Does not operate Wayne-Dalton Garages.......2007-09-24
This so-called universal remote does not operate wayne- dalton garages, and it is not listed on the dreadfully long automated customer no service call!! This remote SUCKS!!
Replacement for Craftsman remote.......2007-09-24
I have a craftsman door opener which is about 10 years old. The original remote stopped working. After reading many reviews I decided to purchase the Chamberlain remote. Programmed the new remote in about 5 mins. It works great! and cost was about half the price of a craftsman remote.
Great replacement.......2007-09-13
If you need to replace your remote, this one will do the trick. Programming it was easy, just follow the instructions. Sturdy build, and the clip is conveniently removable.
Clicker is a lemon.......2007-08-23
tried several times to get this thing to work.
Don't waste your time or money.
Small Price - Big Payoff.......2007-08-05
For several years I owned a car with a built-in remote opener, so when I traded the car in for a newer model I didn't even realize at the time the mess I'd be in. I had no idea where the old remote garage opener were!
This little gadget was a lifesaver - instructions were a tad hard for a 65 year old bird with no technical experience, but I reason, if I could figure it out ANYONE can. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because of the size and color - would love to see Chamberlain move it down considerably and change the color to something more modern. It also does not have as long a range distance as the built-in remote, but it's way better than running in and out of the garage or getting drenched by snow or rain.

Easy.......2007-09-18
I had alot of problems with remotes working with all of my electronics in this past... this did no problem. Very easy to program. Got it set up in less then ten minutes. Fits pretty good in hand.... Not perfect but good. buttons aren't easy to see in dim light. But you aren't going to do better for the price.
Great for Tivo Users.......2007-09-14
I bought this remote because it was the most similar to the Tivo remote I have. It's great for Tivo and I also use it for my DVD player. You do have to get a little creative with some of the buttons (Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down, Subtitles for DVD, etc.). High quality product, definitely recommended.
Finally a remote that does it all .....I MEAN ALL !!!.......2007-08-20
I had no idea what a Learning Remote was, but 5 minutes into reading the manual, I had a very good idea on how to program this remote to 4 of my devices. There was always those few keys that would just not match any universal remote you would get. But then this device I just programmed all keys I have used till date from 4 remote controls in about 15 - 20 min.
I highly recommend this product.....no more clutter with remote controls...
Oh Yeah!.......2007-07-17
This remote has it all! Ergonomic design, easy to use, wide range of product support, upgradeable, macro functions... you name it... And, of course, to top all that off.. it's cheap!!!
Even when I recently bought a new TV brand that is new to the market, I contacted customer support and they immediately sent back the code I should use for the remote. I couldn't believe it!
I can't say enough about this remote. For certain, I will definitely stick to One-For-All for my remote needs in future.
Great Remote ever!.......2007-07-03
This is the one!
It is simple, and works great!
In about 10min. I could make this remote to work just like my old remote.

Customer Reviews:
Great price, works as described...only one small complaint.......2007-09-19
Cheap, works, retains the programming codes so you don't have to re-enter them a lot.
Only thing I don't like is the shift button. You have to use it for several things when controlling the DVD player, and it doesn't have a light up button or anything, so you never know if "shift" is currently selected or not. This matters when you press a button and it performs its alternate function rather than the one you intended. A light-up button indicating "shift" is activated would have been great.
Other than that, it all works. It's nice to have a remote that DOESN'T have 300 buttons. This one is simple enough to use...I control an ancient Sharp VCR, a Sony flatscreen TV, and a new Philips DVD player without any problems. Codes were simple and all worked fine. Best couple of bucks you can spend!
I would give it a 4 if it cost $30, but because of the incredible bargain and only a small complaint, I have to give this product 5 stars.
GREAT FOR TIRED EYES OR LOW LIGHT.......2007-08-31
THIS IS JUST GREAT! I CAN SEE EVERY BUTTON WITH OUT MY BIFOCALS! VERY EASY TO OPERATE AND MEMORIZE...
great remote.......2007-05-07
This remote is as advertised-very easy to use -great not having to use separate remotes for one activity-
Simple to Operate, Easy to Read.......2007-02-09
Bought this for my elderly father, who has trouble seeing and lacks dexterity to push small buttons. This is not a dazzling, sophisticated remote, but it is perfect for users such as my dad, or those who don't care about all of the "bells and whistles". The layout is logical and easy to figure out. It seems to have truly "universal" compatibility. As shown in the photo, the channel number buttons are actually shaped like numbers! What a refreshing difference from most remotes that have groups of tiny, difficult to push buttons with small numbers printed on them which rub off with wear! In the case of this remote, simple is good!
PS The only criticism I have is that the buttons do not light up. Otherwise, I would have rated a perfect "5"

Takes some patience.......2007-09-22
This device did not automatically interface with my Panasonic combination DVD player/audio unit. These devices are common in starter systems and NONE are mentioned in the code section of the manual. As a result, every function must be "taught", which was tedious. I was unable to teach it to open submenues inside DVD function and must use the DVD remote for this. However, it works fine for all basic functions. RF device works great inside the cabinet and I did not need the little pigtail thingies.
Incredible Value.......2007-07-02
Very easy to set-up and program. The included DVD walks you through step by step how to program every aspect of the remote and set up the blaster. It took about one hour to get completely set up on my system (Onkyo, Viewsonic Projector, Elite, IO Cablevision DVR). I called tech support with one question and the rep took the time to research and answer my question completely. Pretty incredible custmer service in this day and age. I highly recommend the product and the company.
Frustrating experience.......2007-06-10
I am slowly getting more annoyed with this product. It worked wonderfully for months, but now seems to be displaying signs of imperfection as it becomes increasingly difficult to adjust the volume on my A/V receiver two rooms away. The receiver is shelved in a closet, and it appears the remote works as it is supposed to only when the wooden closet door stays open. As soon as I close it, the remote control's volume feature loses functionality. Of course, customer service is only open during the week, when I work, so I have been unable to contact them since this started happening.
Best remote I have ever used........2007-06-06
I needed a RF remote and decided on the RF-20 from Universal and love it. Really easy to use and program. I have used other RF remotes and this one by far is the best. No problems with signals. I have devices in another room and it never misses a signal.
I did have an issue while programming because of the cable remote I have. Tech support was very helpful and solved it.
Would buy this again w/o even thinking about it.
Better that expected.......2007-04-19
I have had too many remotes this is the very last one I will ever need.
It does every comand that I have programed into it, every time.
This remote has so many great features that I don't even use them all.
Don't even think twice, you can't go wrong with this one.

The Everything Remote.......2007-09-04
This remote was easy to set up and even easier to use. The ability to macro tasks, such as "Watch a DVD," or "Listen to a Record" make even your most complicated electronics available to your guests. If you are cooking dinner, you can just tell them to hit "Watch a DVD" without skipping a beat. They get to watch Master & Commander and you don't burn the pudding.
The thing I like most about this remote, however, is the ability to customize every button. I like being able to control most (if not all) of the settings for each device with one remote, in any macro, i.e. changing the contrast on the TV, the sub-woofer settings on the A/V, and the Progressive Scan settings on my DVD player all while "Watching a DVD."
Ultimately, time will give the final review for this remote. If, indeed, I am able to use it with each new device that I purchase for many years to come, then the small investment I made early on will pay off 100 fold.
Works Great!.......2007-08-26
The look and feel is nice and you can blindly thumb-navigate from your chair or couch without looking at the remote but the remote's LCD screen that lights up by just moving the remote is a convenient feature.
I am not a home theater guru but I do work in the computer industry and I'm impressed with the simple, easy to use interface(s) when connecting the remote to my computer(s) or using it directly.
My entertainment system includes a flat-screen 42" Motorola, Sony A/V Receiver, Comcast (Motorola) cable box and Toshiba HD-DVD player; all work flawlessly together using this remote. And yes, you can finally loose your cable provided remote; you can navigate all the guide menus using the Logitech Harmony 720.
You need a computer with a USB port and an Internet connection for configuration following your initial setup but after saving, the settings are there to stay; I tried removing the battery, draining the battery and even resetting the remote but my setting were never lost, which is great feature if you experience a long-term power outage. And even without a computer, if something isn't right; the remote will walk you through a step-by-step trouble shooting process to resolve your problem.
My only grip is that I have an A/V Receiver so can't see the volume adjustments on screen or on the remote but that's not really Logitech's fault (just a feature request).
I know there are similar more or less expensive units available but consider the time savings, quality, design and features- this remote is a good price.
Overall I am very happy with my purchase.
Wow, just incredible!.......2007-08-06
I got this as a late graduation gift. What a beautiful remote. In terms of appearance this remote is just gorgeous! Whether its the beautiful, crystal clear screen, or the really high quality matte finish on the back it just looks like a very high quality piece of equipment. Even the recharging contacts on the back are a beautiful gold metal.
The remote takes a bit of work setting up. I have a Hitachi plasma tv, Yamaha receiver, samsung dvd recorder, sony vcr (hooked up through the dvd recorder), xbox 360, and a wii. It didn't quite get the input list for my tv correct but that was fixed via some tweaking. 3 attempts at the computer with a combined setup time of maybe 25 minutes has everything working perfectly. Everything can be adjusted, even if you have a device that switches inputs slowly you can adjust the delay. The remote features an on screen help assistant in case something goes wrong and teaches itself to correct the issue. I was a little frustrated with software during the initial wizard setup but then found all the options I wanted after that was done and you can just get in an tweak things without the wizard.
One of the coolest features on this remote is that it has a motion sensor in it. When you set it down it goes to sleep but as soon as you pick it up it wakes up and has the screen and all lights on and ready to go. This is really nice that you don't have to find a button to turn the remote on.
The only downsides that aren't worth docking it a star is that the remote does not work for applications that use radio based remotes. For instance, the system can't turn my wii on. However, this isn't a problem for me as I have to use the Wii controllers to play the games anyway so using the controller to turn the system on is no biggy. I also wish the play, pause, skip, and fast forward buttons were more towards the top of the remote rather than at the bottom.
Best Remote for any Price.......2007-07-22
This is the second Logitech remote I've purchased...the other, a Harmony 676, worked great until my grandson used it for a football! Hence, a new search for a replacement. Reviews were favorable on this Harmony 720, but there were a few negative writings about the support. I had really good support for the 676. Bought this remote at Costco (they had a special - net cost $150), opened package, let charge for a few hours, put the CD in my laptop and clicked on software update..."BAM"...website recognized my prior remote, updated info & if it weren't for the fact that I got impatient on how to remove the old remote & add the new one, I would have been up & running in less that 20 mins...phoned Logitech support...got great support assist...under 10 mins later, I can control DirecTV HDDVR, an old Akai cassette player/recorder, DVD/VHS Combo player/recorder, Hitachi HD TV and a Yamaha Receiver w/7 speaker Home Theater System...control all functions with a sleek & easy to use remote...docks easily & securely into the cradle...No Problems...No Issues with anything regarding this remote; there's nothing not to like...If this one gets thrown for another TD...I'd buy another at full price...
Great remote, so easy to set up!.......2007-06-16
Harmony 720. Great remote and so easy to set up. I set up my laptop in front of my entertainment center and went to work in about an hour or so my Dish Network DVR, Panasonic Plasma, Samsung DVD, and Sony VCR were all being controlled by this great device. It handles all of the unique features of each of these remotes with ease. I can now do everything with one remote. My wife was amazed with how easy it was. A really cool feature is as soon as you pick up the remote it lights up so the buttons are ready to be found and click, nice feature at night when the lights are down low. I absolutely love it. Great buy. I followed the easy set up on my computer and only had to make a couple of easy adjustments and was good to go. Save yourself the headache of multiple remote juggling and go with the Logitech Harmony 720
