4 out of 5 stars HP Officejet All-in-One.......2007-09-24

It meets my needs for a scanner and copier. Copies are clear with good color. The only drawback is it doesn't have a handset to enable it to double as a phone, but it does have caller ID. For an inexpensive all-in-one, it serves my purpose just fine.

4 out of 5 stars No cable included.......2007-09-24

Incredibly the necessary USB cable to connect the unit to a computer is NOT included...

5 out of 5 stars Positive review for the HP 5610.......2007-09-22

I think this is a good printer, copier, fax. I have had HPs for many years. For what you pay, they are fine. I have no complaints. It is a little slow as a copier, but otherwise, I like it. If you want a faster, fancier, better copier-fax machine, pay the price.

4 out of 5 stars Inexpensive and does the job!.......2007-09-21

I bought this machine a month ago for an extremely economical price. By the time I used up a gift certificate I had for $50 for taking surveys, used the $30 credit from Amazon for getting a credit card and I already had a printer cable - I only paid $19 for this machine!!

It prints pretty well. I have a color laser at home and the quality of this machine compared the laser is pretty close! It scans pretty well with a lot of options and it shuts down much quicker than most machines after it's finished printing.

It's worth the money - even if it's $99 ;-).

1 out of 5 stars they send it without a USB cable.......2007-09-21

I'm very disappointed to see that the printer comes without a USB cable. There's also no information about about what type of USB cable must be purchased. I can't use my printer until I figure this out.

4 out of 5 stars great inexpensive printer for printing multi-page reports.......2007-09-02

For an ink jet printer this is a fast machine. It is inexpensive, compact, and it collates and it interfaces easily with Mac. The only negative: no basket to catch the printed pages... I use a cardboard box.

5 out of 5 stars HP6940 Deskjet.......2007-08-31

This is an excellent printer for office workstation use. I just hope this model is available in the future when we need to replace other obsolete printers. The HP5600 is a wonderful printer too, it's just that you cannot get them anymore.

5 out of 5 stars Fast and Ink-Efficient.......2007-08-23

As far as printers go, this one is top of the line. It prints quickly--and even has a quiet setting. It's very ink efficient and uses the high volume ink cartridges (21ml black vs 7ml black). The savings on ink alone will more than pay for the printer--which is very reasonably priced. And it prints documents and photos well.

5 out of 5 stars HP DeskJet 6940 Color Printer.......2007-08-23

I'm very satisfied with the printer. Excellent print quality in both black and color. Easy to set up and use. Excellent overall quality.

4 out of 5 stars Great photos and graphics but gulps ink.......2007-08-07

Pros: Excellent graphics and photo quality, super-fast, good-quality draft printing, rarely jams (I re-use paper all the time), black (not dark gray) text
Cons: Small paper tray, drinks up ink like water, ink cartridges way too small and expensive

After my beloved HP 990c died, which printed absolutely beautiful graphics and photographs, I searched long and hard for a replacement printer. I do a lot of desktop publishing, and the graphics quality is just, if not more, important to me than photo quality. On the recommendation of a salesman (stupid!), I purchased an Epson. Never again! What a piece of junk! I also tried an HP PhotoSmart printer, which printed great photos but just so-so graphics. Then I purchased the HP 6940 and have been very happy with it. It gave me the excellent graphics quality of my old 990c. For you photo buffs, sometimes I print 8x10 black and white portrait photos, and for years I have been frustrated trying to get "darkroom quality" on my inkjets. I tried using PhotoShop and PhotoShop Elements to tweak it here and there, with unsatisfactory results. It was the same with the 6940 until I printed them using the HP PhotoSmart Premier software that came with the printer. What a difference! I didn't have to change any settings or anything -- it just printed the B&W's much better!

Now for the bad news: when I have a particular job to do, the end result is usually printed elsewhere on a professional machine. However, I do lots of draft printing to check different page designs, etc. before I consider the job final. On a 5-page, double-side printed playbill, I went through at least SIX cartridges of ink!! I'd be part way through a job, and the printer tells me I'm low on ink already! Purchasing the 3-combo pack at Costco cost me about $72 x 2 = $144!! That's ridiculous! That's why printers, even good ones, are so incredibly cheap nowadays -- I've almost paid twice the price of the printer in ink cartridges in less than a six-month period!

Because of limited office space, I just purchased a Canon Pixma MP 830, which is an all-in-one. It has gotten very good reviews, and the ink cartridges are bigger and cheaper. Wish me luck!

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars A fairly decent bundle for a beginner........2007-05-02

About a year ago I was looking for a camera/printer bundle because I was interested in taking/printing pictures to make scrapbooks. I had owned a couple digital cameras before this one but figured I might as well buy a new one since printers alone are so much money. If I was spending money on a printer, I might as well get a new camera to go with it. ESPECIALLY if it would cost me next to nothing to get the camera. So I found this bundle on Amazon. I noted that it had 5 megapixels and 3x optical zoom which is pretty darn good. And HP is a decent brand. So I went ahead and bought it.

Now for my review of the camera. Let me first start off by saying that I'm not a camera expert by any means. However, I do know what I want my pictures to look like and I do know that there ARE cameras out there that can take really good pictures (I know this because the camera that I'm currently using is one of those cameras). One thing that I didn't want is a camera that takes a while to process after taking a picture. Not only does this camera take a while to process pictures, but if you move even slightly within 5 seconds after taking a picture, the picture comes out blurry. This is extremely inconvenient if you need to take several pictures in a row very quickly or if you want to take a picture of someone in movement or if your subject is jumpy (I know this because my cousin owns this camera as well and has trouble taking pictures of her 8 month old daughter). Also, the brightness doesn't always show what the true brightness is. I know how to use the flash and I understand what ISO settings are so I don't think that I'm the problem. I've taken plenty of pictures using other cameras and haven't had this problem. As far as the options on the camera, they are decent. You can play around with different settings to alter your photos (like changing the picture to black and white or sepia). These options are a little bonus.

The screen is a good size. No problems there whatsoever. The internal memory is typical. Most cameras can only hold a handful of pictures so an SD card is a necessary purchase.

As for the printer, I don't have any real problems with it. I'll admit that I've only used it with the few photo papers that came with the printer. The pictures that I DID print came out looking like pictures that you get developed. So if it's easier for you to use this printer instead of going to a drugstore to get them developed, this printer is a great option. The picture looks exactly like how it was taken. Nothing was cropped out of the original picture. The printing time isn't too long so if you want to print multiple pictures at once, time is not a huge problem. One thing that I did like about the printer is that you can dock the camera on it. Not only does docking charge the camera (let's face it, camera batteries die pretty often), but it also lets you review the pictures you took. This is pretty handy if you don't have a computer around.

So would I recommend this bundle? If this is your first digital camera and you're ok with a) having pictures with incorrect brightness and b) having to play with the camera a bit to get a good picture, go for it. I think it's a great bundle if you're scrapbooking and don't necessarily need to get "the perfect shot". Or if you're purchasing this just for the printer, that's a great idea too. However, if you've owned a digital camera before and want accurate pictures, I'd skip on this bundle. I have a Sony DSC-H2 and it works wonderfully (no playing around with the camera to get a good shot... just press the shutter and you've got a good picture). You truly get what you pay for. I'd suggest testing out cameras at a store before buying one.. If I had tested this one at a store, I would have passed on it hands down.

4 out of 5 stars Very good for the money.......2007-03-16

I've had the camera for over a year, and taken several thousand pictures with it. It's pretty darn good overall. I've been pleased with the image quality, especially for scenery shots. It does fall somewhat short with portraits of people in many cases, though. Easy to use. Minor durability problems.

3 out of 5 stars A good deal, a fair camera.......2007-02-13

I had to have the camera replaced by HP because it never really would stay "on" for more than a few shots. The process was so bad, I'll never by another HP camera. The printer is the older series, using #95 cortridges, so they are not waterproof. But it prints just fine.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to use.......2007-02-13

Gave this to the in-laws for Cristmas and they were taking pictures the next time we went to visit. Definitely buy additional memory, the internal memory is really more of a back-up.

4 out of 5 stars A nice, handy camera.......2007-02-11

This camera works great. And the batteries last quite awhile too. Good quality pictures. A good deal for the price.

4 out of 5 stars good camera.......2007-09-19

I've had this camera for well over a year, and I love it. It does take a while to recharge its flash and that has frustrated me at times. This can be helped, but not totally avoided, by always having freshly recharged batteries.

It does eat batteries quickly, but I find that as long as I recharge them enough, it's fine. It only takes two AA batteries and most rechargeable batteries come in sets of at least four, so I always have an extra two with me and switch them out if need be. Of course, if you're the kind of person who always forgets to/never charges their batteries, this is a bad choice for you.

It takes wonderful pictures. I've used it in pretty much any setting you can think of and it's been great. If you leave it someplace cold it'll take a bit to turn back on, but I imagine any other camera would have a similar problem.

Some other reviewers have said this isn't a hardy piece of machinery. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've dropped the thing a number of times and it's still good as new. A little scratched, of course, but it works just as well as it did when it was new.

I pretty much recommend this to anyone, unless you have a problem with being patient about things. Yes, the flash can take a bit to recharge, so just anticipate that. Make sure your batteries are charged. That's all. =)

1 out of 5 stars Not a very good camera.......2007-06-02

I have had this camera since December of 2005.But i got i with the printer too.The printer is very good. But more can be said for the camera. For a few reasons The battery life is very poor.Like it can probley last you 30 mins at the most. And some times if you take a lot of pictures you can use them from the camera. And it will say photo can not be found. And sometimes whene you turn the camera on the screen will be off.And the screen is kind of bleek and dark and blurry too.And the video quality is horrible. And when you are taking a video with the camer the videos are very blurry and poor. And when you take a video you can look at the video on the camera but you CAN NOT HEAR THE SOUND.You have to have a computer to here the sound. And my grandpa has a canon and you can watch the video and hear the sound on the camera too!!!!!And in my opinon HP makes better computers then cameras. Thanks.

1 out of 5 stars camera has many flaws.......2007-05-07

I purchased this camera 1 year ago, and I was so disappointed in the performance. The battery life is terrible, I took it to our town's Christmas Parade, and all the pictures are grainy and really poor quality. I posted some so you can see, also when you take a picture you can not take a picture for another good ten seconds. I had a two foot away shot of the rapper Nelly, and the camera didn't take the shot, and I only caught a shot of his tattoo on his arm! Save your money and get a better camera, like the Canon A630 the same price and much better quality, the battery life is fantastic and the night shots are great too. The shutter speed is much better too. I now have my HP in the closet because when I tried to use it on Thanksgiving the zoom would no longer zoom, and the lense does not retract. The only way I can turn off the power is too take out the batteries! I never dropped it or mistreated my camera, it is just not a good quality camera.

5 out of 5 stars One of the better cameras.......2007-01-04

I've used several digital cameras in the past and this one is my favorite. It has the fewest number of confusing buttons (especially no awkward, symbol-laden dial around the on/off button) and most of the menus are pretty self explanatory. Its highly compact and very durable-- I took mine on a cross-country trip through the middle of the desert. And, of course, it has the best picture quality of all the cameras I've used. Admittedly, it is hard to get pictures in low light (the shutter has to remain open for a while to capture enough photons, resulting in a blurry picture if you hold it in your hands), but this camera does have a hole in the bottom for a screw-in tripod for stabilization.
Plus, its one of the cheaper brands out there. Best bet for my money.

2 out of 5 stars The camera with a glass chin!.......2006-11-29

While I agree with others that this camera takes some pretty nice pictures and is easy to use, I've had the same problems as many have noted here. For starters, the thing eats through batteries like there's no tomorrow. I was lucky to get 20 pictures before the batteries crapped out. My biggest problem, however came when my son was handing the camera over to me at the dinner table and it slipped out of his hand. The camera literally fell only 10-12 inches to the table, but that was enough to render this camera permanently inoperable. Be warned: if you are a little bit clumsy or have butter-fingers, think twice before buying this camera! Red-eye reduction is also a bit of a joke with this one.

5 out of 5 stars Nice printer and camera.......2007-01-13

I bought this for my daughter (8 yrs old) and she loves it. Great printer and camera for the money. Takes good pictures and is easy to use. Printer is fairly quick too. Be sure to buy some rechargeable batteries because the camera will use up regular batteries pretty quick. I bought the duracell 15 minute charger with four 2400mpa batteries and they are great!

This item did not work correctly. The photo docking station was supposed to charge the camera, but did not. It took fine pictures in the 5 minutes that it would hold a charge. It had to be returned and was more trouble than it was worth.

    Amazon.com Review

While kids may coo over carnival-colored units, you'll be impressed by the substantial, professional demeanor of the gunmetal black Hewlett-Packard PhotoSmart P1000 printer. It connects to your PC and also directly accepts CompactFlash Type I/II or SmartMedia from your digital camera. Plus, it offers fast, photo-quality printing and HP PhotoREt technology.

A compact desktop printer designed to be a companion to PCs, the HP PhotoSmart P1000 can print images from your digital camera without the use of a computer, and you can begin printing moments after opening the box. The printer control panel allows a great deal of control with just a few options. We loved the infrared port, which allowed us to transfer photos directly to the printer (requires a digital camera that is infrared capable.) The Quick Success setup poster gave all the basics, clearly illustrated for the fastest no-fuss installation. For more detailed explanations and troubleshooting, the user's guide was thorough and easy to understand. The distinct LCD display made choosing which photos to print, how many, and in what size logical, with just a quick tap of soft pad buttons. To print from your computer is no more difficult--just a couple steps away--than to connect the cables and install the software.

HP printers are designed to be easy to set up and get you straight to work, and the P1000 is no exception. In our tests, this unit delivered great photos in crisp color combined with flexible and dependable operation. When using CompactFlash Type I/II or SmartMedia, our photos had clean, true colors on any paper and especially on photo paper. Offering a maximum resolution of 2,400 dpi, we enjoyed getting fast copies of our prints--up to 8.5 pages per minute for color photos (and 11 ppm black text). You can store photos on your computer for many other uses, such as e-mail and sharing albums on Web sites.

Solidly built and durably designed, the P1000 includes an adaptable 100-page-capacity paper tray and a print-cancel button. The P1000 printer provides great results on all types of media, ably providing professional quality and crisp clean black text on regular paper, photo paper, envelopes, transparencies, labels, and more. It also improves your work environment with its compact size and quiet operation. Even in small workspaces, at just 18 by 15 by 8 inches, it fits into your life, your home workstation, or small office. Hewlett-Packard also backs this printer with a one-year warranty and HP online support.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Mostly Great - Used for 3 years now, but..........2003-05-30

I LOVE this printer! I've owned one since a few months after they became available, and bought a camera (HP 618) well-matched to it. Here's the good, the bad, and the ugly - and I've experienced all three but still love the printer enough to be getting a new one right now.
Beautiful quality pictures, great features, easy install but drivers for XP may be challenging to find. Can be used to make prints without the aid of a computer. Front panel with LCD display and all controls available to select paper and quality options, multiple copies, etc. Big 45ml ink tanks seem to last a long time. I saw another reviewer say 50 to 75 8x10 color prints can be produced on a set of ink tanks, and I'd say that's probably pretty accurate. If you do a lot of general everyday printing of webpages and letters & stuff as well as photos, you'll get many more pages, especially if you use draft mode when you don't need the high-quality pages you get from the default settings. Can accept type I & II memory cards, and uses USB or parallel port to connect to a computer. Also can use infra-red data connection IF your camera is HP JetSend compatible, but this is difficult to find in a camera now, even if you get a camera from HP.
Now for the bad. Some documentation as well as directional symbols on the printer make it easy to insert envelopes incorrectly resulting in upside-down orientation. Paper jams can be tricky to clear, and may cause frustration which in my case possibly led to more printer damage. Difficult to operate 4x5 special photo tray, which can contribute to paper feed errors if not positioned correctly when not in use. Ink cartridges (when they do finally run out) can be expensive if you use the genuine HP cartriges, about $... for the tri-color, and $... for the black. Cheaper ones are available in smaller volume (HP genuine, half filled), and substantially cheaper full-size refills (from Staples) are available for about half or less these costs.
And the ugly: If you start getting frequent paper jam errors, good luck getting this printer fixed since it has been discontinued and parts are unavailable. I didn't have paper jam problems until after a couple of years and probably around 2100 pages. The test print you can run from the front panel shows my total pages printed to be 2985.
I tried to get repairs from two local authorized HP service centers in Toledo, OH as well as from HP customer service, and the best they (a local place) could do for me was to replace the printer with a reconditioned one at about $.... HP could only offer me - get this - a reconditioned unit for about $... OR a swap for over $... (?). Their replacement parts page lists a "printer replacement" option for over $...!!! What's up with that? They recommended a "trade up" to the 7150 photosmart, a terrible idea to me since it has none of the features of the P1000 - no IR, no memory card options, not standalone, smaller ink tanks - for around $.... "Trade-UP" must be a reference to the money THEY will make from more frequent ink purhcases by consumers. Plus, instead of a tri-color and a black cartridge, the 7150 uses a tri-color and a "photo" color by default, and if you want to do a lot of black they expect you to buy an "optional" black cartridge which you swap out with the "photo color" cart.
I guess the P1000 line just had too many nice features for HP to allow it to survive, so if you want one get it while you can. Even with the problems I've had I want another, it has EXCELLENT bang for the buck!

2 out of 5 stars Don't buy if you have XP as your OS.......2003-01-26

This printer is terrible if you're running XP. Trouble getting it to operate, problems once you do, and very little help from HP. Good luck even getting the proper drivers to download from the HP site. When it works, pic quality is great...although there are feeding problems once in awhile.

3 out of 5 stars Great but can be tricky to set up........2002-04-14

I've had this printer for about 8 months, and I am finally happy with it in general. When I first set it up, it was via parallel connection on a PC running Windows ME. Total set up time was 10 minutes and text and graphics printing was very good. However, loading photo paper, which requires some tricky maneuvers and varies among the different sized papers, is enough to discourage a lot of photo printing, especially on 4" x 6" paper, which uses a separate tray for loading and is finicky on a good day. I then moved the printer to my laptop and tried to set it up via the USB port. This was rougher and required uninstalling the printer and then reinstalling it and selecting USB connectivity. Not a big deal except nowhere does it say to do that; you just figure it out by trial-and-error. The big deal came when I upgraded my laptop's OS to Windows XP. The original driver for ME or even Windows 2000 does not work with XP. Try finding the driver via the HP website and you're in for the run-around of a lifetime. It turns out their FTP site in the U.S. is so overloaded that you'll only be directed to that site at weird, off hours. Otherwise, you're redirected to the Twilight Zone. My success finally came when I located (via a Google search) HP's Euro FTP server, which at midnight here was quite responsive. Quality remains quite acceptable and noise is very good. Ink usage is a bit high, but as I rarely am in the mood to print photos anymore, it's less of an issue.

5 out of 5 stars Great photos from a simple printer.......2002-03-25

How great is this printer? I own 2 of them and travel with one most of the time. It prints fantastic quality for photos. Sometimes I will keep it in the car when I go to parties or weddings. Having shot a lot of digital photos all night I then bring in the HP P1000 and slip in the chip from the camera. Presto! I have a thumbnail of each photo taken. By the time the first 8x10 comes out I have a crowd of people around me. Most people are shocked at the high quality this printer puts out. The printer also works great for turning out black and white documents for business. One of the items that surprised me was how long the print cartridge last. They have a large capacity and keep going and going.
I have made this my number one recommended printer for friends and no one has been disappointed. There are newer versions of this line of printer but they cost more. A simple printer creating great photos.

    4 out of 5 stars It Works!.......2002-01-19

I have had the Photosmart P1000 for nine months. I haven't kept up with the new models, except that they seem to be very similar with some increase in printing speed plus the addition of a Memory Stick slot to some models.

I have not used this printer where it would appear to have the greatest appeal -- printing directly from digital camera memory cards with no computer in the loop. Reason? I have a sony memory stick and HP tells me there is no adapter.

I tested the permanence of the inks on several papers by placing them behind low e glass under a late fall sun for two months. Based on the results, I suggest that the user also run some quick tests, because paper does make a difference in permanence. I'd include Pictorico Glossy Photo Paper (which I would call semi-gloss), because it costs less than $.75/8X10. Direct sunlight will fade automobile paint, and atmospheric acid will attack most color dyes. Most museums believe that flash photography will fade oil paintings. So don't expect too much of any kind of color print unless it is sealed under UV resistant glass.

This printer will print photographs. The color is stunning on high quality paper and the surface of the picture shows no layering except on 25 cent paper. Compared to an Epson 875DC, I would say that a P1000 blue sky is slightly green, but when viewed alone the blue from the P1000 simply looks vibrant.

Most serious drawbacks? 1) Maximum print size is 8 X 10. 2)Ink cartridges cost around $... each and make 50 to 75 8X10 color prints.

Best feature? Default settings appear to produce best prints.

--Mike Brown

4 out of 5 stars Workhorse that does want to give out.......2007-01-09

The only things that has worked harder for me is my Maytag washer. Honest!

I have printed perhaps 4oo to 5oo great photos in 8x10 and several hundred 4x6. I printed simple signs that earned more than the coast of the printer, all the ink used and paper. I am on my 3rd case of plane paper, plus heavy weight paper.

I have use it with the usb cable and the printer cable. The small photo tray worked well after I surrendered and read and followed the instructions.

I have had my P1000 for 5 years or more...I have gone through several PCs, am on my 3rd scanner and have tossed two printers in the dump...one a wide print photo oriendted HP, the other that came "free" with another PC.

I considered buying a new one (or two) on Amazon 2 years ago for ?..$75/00 if a member correctly.

I have been able to download software that enables we to use it on XP home edition. The HP software worked well for me. Also have been using photoshop 6.

I have given away numbeous framed photos to frineds and family printed on it and had the pleasure of seeing people enjoy them.

I doesn't give up. There many be better printers. I am still looking and also am holding on to this HP P1000...I also have a Canon i9900 which is working out well enough.

And I just might get another P100. Anyone want a HP 3845? Free! The trash men wount be here until Thursday (2 days)

    2 out of 5 stars it works....i guess.......2006-08-17

This thing works sometimes, and its cheep. Other then that I don't have much good too say about it. It uses up the ink in the expensive cartridges like water. And is so noisy it sounds like a truck going off road. I've owned quite a few cheep HP ink jet printers, and I've been disappointed by them all. I am going with Epson or paying a little more for a higher model HP. In the print world, you get what you pay for and buying cheep is a bad idea.

3 out of 5 stars Ok printer for the price.......2004-09-10

I bought this printer 3 years ago. It works great. The only problems are: the power cord has a short in it, the ink is pricy, not enough memory, freezes up, and sometimes will print lines or it will smear. I like HP printers and think I will stick with HP for a long time. I am going to up-grade to the HP laserjet 4050N or 1300N because of our home network. I think this model has some defects but in the newer printers HP has fixed them.

2 out of 5 stars Good prints... bad compatibility.......2004-02-06

I've had the P1000 for a couple of years. Worked great with WindowsME. After installing XP on my desktop I had to reinstall the printer software to get it to work. Just got a new laptop and it doesn't work at all.. in fact, the P1000 causes my Dell Inspiron to crash whenever I disconnect the USB cable. When the cable is connected the laptop never recognizes the printer.

1 out of 5 stars bad usb connection on P1000.......2003-10-21

I really liked this printer when I first got it about 3 years ago. Sure it was loud and a little slow, but it printed pretty good. Well, after about 1 1/2 years of VERY light duty, I all of a sudden start getting error messages on my PC telling me the printer is not connected to the computer. First I changed the cord to no avail, then I tried different open USB ports on my computer, so it ends up I just have to position the USB cable perfectly to the back of the P1000 to get it to work. At least it would still work, right? Well that got me by for about six months and now it just will not connect at all. Now my HP P1000 has a nice new home in the trashcan and I'm giving Canon a try. If HP puts as much thought into printers as they do computers I definetely don't want to buy another HP product again...
