I bought this dvd player about 2 years ago and I also bought it with a case so it would be protected...or not. This dvd player is literally made out of garbage. The plastice hinges where the screen is held broke off so now it is just hanging by two wires. The compartment also broke off where the dvd is put in. Also, if you do not use the so-called "2.5 hour" (which at the most I can get out of it is 1.5 hours) battery within two days when you last used it, then the battery will die. Also what I've noticed is if you tap the compartment where the dvd is place in it will start the movie over, and the movie sometimes just goes blank when I'm in the middle of watching it. Bottom line is that no one should by this dvd player. You're better off with some other company that makes better dvd players.

A Nice Little Totable DVD Player.......2005-03-20

This dvd player is great for the price (I did not buy thru Amazon, but I am a happy Amazon customer) Picture quality is good, sound quality could be better, (but for the price I paid, I'm not complaining...) and overall I believe I got my money's worth since I only use it at work. I'm having a blast with this player!!!
The only problem I seem to be having is the unit heats up during playback and I have to let it cool off between discs for fear that it might overheat and cause damage to the "guts" of the machine. If anyone knows how to remedy this please let me know! :)

Like the last reviewer, I do not understand the negative reviews on this product either. The Player is a low-end player, but does the job asked to do (plays DVDs) at a very reasonable price. It has a 4:3 format screen and it is not progressive scan. If you want those features, you're not going to find it at this price point (so stop complaining about them).

The picture quality looks fine to me when played on the 5" screen (I've never plugged it into a TV). Widescreen movies play in letterbox on the screen and make the image a little smaller, but on an airplane or in the back of a car this is still perfect size (especially if you are stuck in coach/economy, like I usually am).

Battery life is short ( < 2.0 hours), true... so use the car cable or AC adapter (can I say "duh" here). If you need this on a flight I'd recommend picking up the RB-270 extended battery (5400mah) or the RB-Li06 (3600mAH) battery that came with the older 9510-series. For some reason Initial went cheap and lowered the battery on the 9530 to 2200mAH. Batteries only range from 25-50 dollars, and cosidering how inexpensive the player is, adding an extra battery just improves the overall usefulness of this device. You can find this this player and the 6-hour battery for the price of most other players on the market that only have 2.5-3.0 hour battery life standard. I get close to 8 hours (total), for the price of 2.5 hours players. Hard to beat that!

The bottom line: this is perfect for travel, inexpensive, and I have no problem recommending this device. It works for me. Pick one up when it goes on sale, and you'll be happy too.

Great value under rugged use.......2005-01-24

I never write reviews, but the negative takes on this product prompted me to defend it. We've been using ours for a year under very rugged conditions: 4 and 2 year olds watch it while mommy is cooking dinner. The unit has been subject to sticky fingers, spilled juice, several hard knocks, travelling around in a diaper bag--and it's been working great. Only problem is the short battery life: 1.5 hours. Maybe the screen and sound quality could be better, but they are just right for kiddie DVDs.

4:3 Widescreen??.......2004-10-30

Product ad copy writers who know nothing about the technology they are writing about, should be out looking for a new job. 4:3 is FULLscreen, NOT WIDEscreen. This is NOT the original format of DVDs. In fact, even the 16:9 ratio is slightly less than the typical DVD movie aspect ratio. I'm sure the people from the Initial Co. gave the product specs to Amazon, so they are the ones getting 1 star from me.

Sound through the speakerphone varies based on how loud an automated attendant is. At first, I thought this was due to poor quality in the phone. The microphone hears really well. I like the handset for the AT&T 210 Trimline better, but this is a good phone.

I find myself somewhat of a communication freak and just now started my FRS journey. I have used CB for quite a while and was impressed with how well these units worked. I can't discuss price but I could'nt beat what I paid for them with any other brand. 5 stars for the price.... The price did make the units lack in features..3 channels and I wish that they came with a variable squelch, oh well. Nice beep identifier and call tones though. Mkes it easy to tell when its your unit calling you 3 stars for features. I am not sure how other units work as far as distance goes but, I decided to jump in the car, turn the tape recorder on, and drive to my wives work. Turning off the squelch of course. I figure it is about 2 miles away. I could'nt belive I could still hear! Barely but I was there. Anyway so far so good. 5 stars for distance. I like 'em and think anyone not willing to pay more or on a budget to go for it and don't be scared by the low price. It's worth it.

Purchased these for Christmas Gift. They are by far the best items you can get for the price. Great quality, very clear with a two mile range (And I live in the Mountains). Ultra compact with fold down antenna's, Call button sounds like a phone ringing to get the other party. You can even listen in on CB channels and talk with other folks if you want by just a push of a button. Glad I bought this item and HIGHLY RECOMMEND it for anyone wanting a good reliable two way radio for family or kids. Dan in Western NC.

Good Deal for the Money.......2000-12-19

I bought a set of these for instead of the more expensive 14 channel ones.

Benefits - Theses radios are small, light-weight, and easy to use. My set uses only 3 AAA batteries (not 4 as stated in the technical description). The antenna folds down and it can easily be stored in a front pocket or clipped onto a belt. The sound quality is good (though I haven't tested the 2 mile range).

Drawbacks - This set has limited channels (2, 8 & 14) so it can be difficult to find a vacant one on trips to amusement parks, shopping. Unfortuanately, they are so easy to use the kids want to play with them all the time (not just when we need them).

I would recommend them for anyone who is looking for a set to communicate infrequently. If you are going to use them a lot, pay more for more channels so you have more options.

It's one of those "you get what you paid for" type of radios. VERY cheap, and works great for someone like me who doesn't care much about quality. I'm pretty hard on electronics, but this one lasted much longer than I expected for the less than [money] I paid for it. Nice product, nice design.

Great Machine!.......2007-02-10

I work in a public library and we use the 2400 to make the call numbers to attach to our materials - it's wonderful! We process about 1,000 items a month and this machine has never let us down because it's a real workhorse. It's one of those products that has performed exceedingly well in everyday use over many years and I highly recommend purchasing it, particularly becasue it is such a good value.
Over the past 8 years, we have used a variety of Brother label machines and I intend to continue using them for a long, long time.

I DON'T OWN THIS MODEL BUT AT WORK I USE IT ALL THE TIME. ITS SIMPLE AND HAS MANY FEATURES. IF I WERE TO BUY ONE THIS IS IT. IT EVEN CUTS THE LABEL FOR YOU AND CHANGING THE TAPE IS AS SIMPLE AS 1-2-3. IF YOU NEED A GOOD LABELER CERTAINLY BUY THIS ONE.
