great product but is it worth the price?.......2007-08-13
: PictureMate Deluxe Viewer Edition takes the personal photo lab one step further, making it even easier to view, edit and print glossy 4" x 6" photos. It measure 6 by 10 by 6 inches (HWD), weighs 5.5 pounds, and has a handle. The Deluxe Viewer Edition also has a battery option. Setup is just as easy as with the original. Simply slide the single six-color ink cartridge--with cyan, yellow, magenta, black, red, and blue inks--into the slot in the back, load the photo paper, connect the power cord, and you're ready to print from a camera, external CD or ZIP drive, a USB memory key, or any type of memory card, although you'll need an adapter for miniSD cards and some Memory Stick formats. To print from your computer, the only additional steps are to connect by USB cable and run the automated install program. You can also add Epson's optional Bluetooth adapter for wireless printing.
It takes about 1 minute 19 seconds to 1:45 for each photo, whether printed from a computer, memory card, or camera.
It uses ink and paper, which means the photos for the Deluxe Viewer Edition are also waterproof and smear-proof even immediately after printing, and they cost only 29 cents per print. Now this is the kicker, it is cheaper to print them at Sam's Club for 12 cents per print, so I only purchased this because I can take it to scrap meets and print what I need when I need it. My other photos I send to Sam's Club or even Wal-Mart for nearly the same price of 12 cents. This is more of a convince thing for me. I purchased this mode for only 24.99 at Target where it normally retailed for 199.00 but it was on super clearance. This is what you have to weigh in on, convince for the price or what your pocket book can handle. It has come in handy for me at times and the prints come out nicely so it is a tossup for people on a budget!
Cartridges don't last.......2007-04-23
I am happy with this printer as long as the cartridge is new...I'm only getting about 40 good pictures from each cartridge. I have completed all the maintenance, but I cannot use the pictures that are printing. I'm considering a new printer purchase - and it won't be an Epson!
no flip-up lcd.......2007-03-13
from the specs, it apprears the only real difference between this and the slightly more expensive "picture mate deluxe viewer edition personal photo lab" is the deluxe viewer. this model doesn't have one as far as i can tell.
is that worth the difference in price? probably, because being able to look at your photos in the printer before you print them is a big asset in a printer that can print directly from a memory card. i guess you could preview them in-camera, but then you'd be wasting battery charge. sort of defeats the purpose if you ask me.
on the plus side, to get epson quality for such a low price--the printer costs a little over 1/2 as much as an ink cartridge--is a fantastic value for the money. i own the deluxe model (see my review there) and i'm generally happy with it, although the faults of that one are well-documented: clogging ink, cropped edges, borders unless perfectly aligned, limited to one print size, etc.
Still, if everything is the same except for lcd, than this model is an excellent, maybe even unbelievable, deal at this price. you probably can't get better quality prints for less, but you can almost certainly pay more. i'd definitely give this as a gift (and look like i spent a whole lot more than i did), but for myself, it made more sense to get the viewer version.
if you really want "pro" photos or multiple print sizes, you're gonna need to get a high-end printer, but for stunning hi-contrast snapshots at better-than-drugstore quality in the comfort of your own home, the PictureMate series comes through.
Epson PictureMate Express.......2007-03-08
I gave this as a gift to my father who has MSNWEB-TV and he was very happy with it's compatibility with the system as well as ease of installation. He likes the PRINTER VERY MUCH!
This is wonderful!.......2007-02-04
I am so thrilled with this photo printer. It is really easy to use and the photos print out just like if I had taken them in to have a professional do it! Amazing! I would highly recommend this photo printer for ease of use, quality, speed, size, and low noise level. You will not be disappointed with this item!!

Wide Compatibility
|
|
Slots for digital camera memory cards in several formats |
The PictureMate prints JPEG or TIFF photos from any USB digital camera and is compatible with both Mac and PC operating platforms. A wide variety of card types are also accepted, including CF Type I and II, SmartMedia, Sony Memory Stick/MemoryStick PRO, Duo (requires adapter), SD, MMC, and xD-Picture.
The printer initially comes with a starter photo cartridge and 20 sheets of paper. Thereafter, you'll purchase PictureMate Print Packs, which contain 100 sheets of paper and a photo ink cartridge with an approximate 100-page yield.
Prints That Last and Stay Beautiful

|
Original print (left), then a spill-and-wipe test on leading glossy and semi-gloss papers (two middle) and on PictureMate (right) |
The prints resist water, smudging, and most notably fading. Epson estimates an archival lifetime of up to 200 years if the photos are kept in a relatively dark place (such as a photo album) or up to 100 years in a frame (see Epson's web site for details). True borderless printing (or bordered, if you prefer) combined with sturdy stock help to give your prints a professional look and feel. A cartridge level indicator lets you know how much ink you have left.
Easy Operation
|
|
Simple menus and one-touch buttons make printing a snap! |
Other features include a multiple print function that lets you make up to 100 copies of a single picture. A Save Photo button lets you back up digital files directly to an external CD-R, Zip drive, or USB Thumb drive.
The small 10-by-6-inch footprint fits neatly onto your desk or countertop, and the convenient handle provides true portability. An optional Bluetooth adapter lets you print wirelessly from Bluetooth enabled devices. The PictureMate is backed by a one-year limited warranty.

What a Disaster.......2007-05-17
I was so excited to get this printer for Christmas but then.....First of all, it won't print the entire picture - it always crops around the edges. Secondly, you can buy brand new ink but you only get about 10 good picture out of a cartridge and then it throws you error messages and tells you to buy a new cartridge. Thirdly, if you don't use it everyday, the ink nozzel has to be cleaned about 10 times before it will print your picture with true colors. The was such a waste of $200.00 dollars. I should have just bought a better printer for my computer. Epson really made a poor product with this picturemate printer. Beware - if you buy you will only be disappointed. Best Buy won't even sell them anymore.
Not worth the time or money.......2007-02-18
This picturemate has been a total disaster. After printing just a few pictures the color on the photo turns to pink and yellow. Put in a new cartridge and it will work for a few photos and then the color turns funny again. Not only does it not print many photos with a true color image, but it is slow and the cartridge runs out of ink after a couple dozen photos. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT!
PictureMate Printer.......2007-01-10
I loved my PictureMate for about two years. It made great pictures and I used it frequently. After using it for about two years, it needs to have the heads cleaned almost every time I use it. It is not as much fun to use when you have to remember to do that every time. My daughter had this problem with hers from the beginning.
Prints great pictures when heads are not clogged up.......2006-12-10
Inkjet printers have never been a personal favorite of mine. Since the early days of inkjet printers, the quality of printouts they generate never impressed me. As photo printers came into the market, I never felt they were a worthy replacement for traditional photo prints.
Having said that, the quality of prints from the PictureMate is very impressive. At a passing glance, you cannot distinguish these prints from professional photo lab prints. Crisp, colorful pictures print crisp and colorful. The stipple ink patterns are still there but much less pronounced that your typical tri-color inkjet printer.
My only complaint is with the tendancy of this printer's print heads to clog up. With my printer, it happens rather frequently. Sometimes when printing a series of photos, a photo will land in the output tray faded out. After that I try printing a nozzle check page. Half the lines in the test pattern are colored smears, indicating clogged print heads. Why does this happen after it had just printed a perfect print? I cannot leave a large print job alone for fear of the nozzles suddenly ruining prints and wasting paper.
The printer's nozzle cleaning utility doesn't always work on the first try. Sometimes it takes three or four cycles to clear up the problems. Of course, this wastes valuable ink as the printer uses ink from the cartridge to shoot through the nozzle to clean it. After owning this printer for a couple of years, I've yet to be able to use all 100 sheets of photo paper with the Photo pack.
I'd like to think this is an atypical issue but my long history with Epson printers, both personally and professionally as an IT expert, this is a common problem all Epson printers have. Designing a printer with fixed print heads, as almost all Epson printers are, is a good way to make cartridges less expensive. But without a way to replace troublesome print heads as the ones I have, all you have is a paperweight that plugs into your computer and wastes paper.
If you can get past these issues with the Epson PictureMate, they're great printers and you will love the quality of prints it can produce.

Easy to use.......2007-09-20
I was leary to try this product but after reading all the reviews decided to give it a try. I love it! It is easy to use and the quality of the pictures is very good. Compared to having to take the picture card to the store to make copies it is a breeze. I find myself printing more pictures and sharing them I would have before. A great product!
EpsonT5570 Picture Mate Color and Paper pack.......2007-09-08
Have enjoyed making my own copies. The quality of the paper and especially the color prints are magnificent. I am very happy with the products.
Epson Picturemate ink pack.......2007-08-31
An excellent product. It works perfectly with at least 3 models of the Epson Picturemate printers, producing clear, crisply-defined photos. The ink cartridge is said to be good for the 100 photos that you can make with the paper in the T5570 package, but it gets even better. my experience has been that the cartridge is good for about 30 or more photos than that, which means that if you buy a pack of 4 by 6 paper together with the T5570 package, you could, if you shopped the sales, save even more when you do your own photos. I see where Epson has now dicontinued the Picturemate, replacing it with newer products. I hope they keep producing the T5570 package for the Picturemates already in the field. This has been an great combination. After buying my Picturemate, I recently bought two others, at closeout prices, for my nieces. All units work flawlessly.
Cheap, needs a lot of cleaning if you don't use it often.......2007-08-17
Picture quality is nice and ink is not too expensive.
But if you don't use it often, you need to clean it all the time,
that cost ink. Also don't install ink cartridge with power on ,
that will render the cartridge useless.
Great product !!.......2007-08-09
I have used this a lot. I left a few photos in the direct sun light just inside a non UV filtering window for over a year with no noticable fading !! Great color and the prints dry very fast. I usually get over 140 prints out of the ink cartarage. I tried HP paper from Sam's. It came out of my Epson Picture Mate sticky and foggy.

Great Camera, No Zoom.......2001-10-10
I bought this camera over two years ago when it sold for over $450. At that time, it was a great deal of a camera. Now, for $450, you can get a camera that I would have paid $1500 at the time. This camera provides great pictures. It has some trouble with coloration during different light conditions, but can be easilly adjusted with graphics editing software (Paint Shop Pro has a function called Automatic Color Balance which performs wonders on photos from this camera). The built-in memory can hold 12 or so high quality pictures. I use this camera a lot and am very happy with it. The only thing I really wish it had was the ability to zoom in and out on objects. Other than that, I would recommend this camera to any new digital photographer.
Great Camera for a great price!.......2001-08-24
I've owned this camera close to 8 months now and I absolutly love it. It was my first digital camera and I purchased it on eBay for $130 after shipping. I purchased a 16 mb compact flash card and I was set. It takes awesome pictures and can be used as a web cam too. Also feels sturdy in your hands. It doesn't eat batteries-actually they last forever. Also it is fast, you don't wait forever in between pictures(I would say 4 seconds on high quality is tops) Only problems I have noticed is that in certain lighting conditions(ie inside with artificial lights) you must change the lighting filter to indoor(even though it has a setting of "auto"), can be troublesome. All in all a great camera! perfect for beginners. This camera has inspired me to look into some more higher end cameras with all the bells and whistles. Digital is great!
FOR THE PRICE, YOU WON'T FIND A BETTER CAMERA!.......2000-01-06
Features and function highlite this great camera offered at a price that will only get you 640x480 and a serial download elswhere. Excellent picture quality, ease of use, and complete with the AC adapter, batteries, case, software, and ALL cables. You cannot go wrong. And Amazon.com got it to me in only 4 days with regular postage the week before Christmas. WHAT A DEAL!
Mustek MDC-800.......2000-01-04
Excellent camera! A lot of others don't like the Mustek cameras. I think the reason for this is they don't know you have to fiddle with the exposure settings, white balance and anything else that has settings. I can print full page pictures without distortions. I can even print clear 4x6 photos using the economy setting! I also have the new Mustek GSmart 350 camera. It is only a 640x480 camera & prints beautiful 4x6 pictures and 5x7's! The key to using these cameras is using all the features in the menu for settings. I also have an HP camera that does beautiful pictures but doesn't have as many settings to help enhance the pictures. Another plus for the Mustek MDC-800 is the ability to print larger photos with a smaller resolution than the HP. I guess Mustek uses a different type of lense then the HP. (The HP does take wonderful pictures too) I also have a photo printer that probably helps the output of these pictures.
Great Pictures, Great Price.......1999-12-31
I bought this camera for Christmas and I have not stopped taking pictures.
The camera has 3 different resolutions, but even the lowest resolution (Economy) produces great resolution and outstanding color.
The Mustek MDC 800 Digital Camera is so easy to use that even my 8 year old son can use it with no previous instruction.
I shopped around and you can't find this camera at a better price anywhere in or out of the web.
