Wireless networks are rapidly becoming more popular and coming down in price. Since they don't require cables, you can use the devices anywhere in an office or home, even out on the patio. There's no need to roll out an Ethernet network cable to each room of a house; you can network anywhere--without wires. Outside the home, wireless networking is available in hotspots at coffee shops, businesses, airports--great when you're on the road and need to get some work done. For convenience, wireless networking is the answer.
Which Wireless Standard Is Right for Me?
Now that you've decided to create a wireless network, the next step is to figure out which wireless standard to use.
Basically, a standard is a set of specifications for a device. All devices that follow a specific standard share operating characteristics, such as the radio frequency used and maximum data transfer speed.
For wireless networking, there are three standards to choose from at this time:

Great Wireless-G Card.......2007-09-13
If you run a home network in your house you should definetly be using the Linksys-WRT54GL, and if you are using that then you should probably be using this Wireless-G card. Works great!
Can't Keep Signal.......2007-08-23
I just bought a 3G Compaq computer with a pentium4 processor. It came with Vista Home on it. First off, the adapter instuctions tell you to go to the Linksys website to download the driver for Vista. If I could do that, then I wouldn't need an adapter! I tried to download the vista driver to a CD on another computer and then load that CD on to my computer. I tried for 4 days and never did figure out how to do it. I finally paid $88.00 to have it done. The card now works for a few minutes and then I'm told that my computer has no network. My son's computer has another brand of card in it and it never has a problem. I've invested too much time and money to put up with this crraap.
Wireless PCI adapter.......2007-07-27
I bought this for my new desktop computer that I just moved from my upstair den to downstair bedroom. In order not to pull the cable around the house, I add this to the desktop to work wirelessly.
The installation is a easy snap, and it takes no time to get it going. I do noticed the small slowdown on the speed, specially when I play on-line games. For the tradeoff, I can live with it.
Very good.......2007-06-20
I'm happy about this buy, but i have to say that the installation program that comes in the CD-ROM, trows a problem, sometimes it doesnt install the program correctly, and then you have to do it again. I Buy 2 of them, and in both computers i've installed them, it gets me the same problem...
Horrible........2007-06-19
I should have known better. After having problems with the Linksys wireless G router for over a year, I was stupid enough to purchase another Linksys product... the Wireless-G PCI adapter. Why did I do this? Because it was cheaper than the other routers. Why did I take it back to the store two weeks later? Because it was a piece of junk that never worked right.
We have a desktop computer in the same room as a laptop computer. The laptop connected to our wireless network just fine, and it reliably maintained the connection all day long. The desktop with the brand new Linksys PCI card connected to the network sporadically at best, and sometimes couldn't even detect the network. There were occasionas that went on literally for hours when we couldn't connect to the internet for more than a few seconds at a time. Save your time and your money and invest in one of the many better options that are available. And avoid Linksys like the plague.

Customer Reviews:
I have tried EVERYTHING to get this thing to work.......2007-09-19
I bought this adapter in 2005, and it worked somewhat for about a year. It worked when it decided to connect to the network, but even then the internet connection kept resetting and losing the signal, even though the router was only 15 feet away (through two walls). However, when it did decide to connect for more than 20 minutes, the connection was fine, no slowness.
So I got a laptop, and the desktop was turned off and put away until early this year (2007). I now primarily use the laptop (since it's easier) which connects to the SAME wireless network with NO PROBLEMS, even though I got the cheapest Dell wireless laptop card I could. Now when I turn my desktop on, the wireless desktop card no longer works. It finds the network, shows that it has a strong signal, but when I hit connect, suddenly it can't find the network anymore, and my computer tells me that maybe the network is no longer in range. Since the router can't sprout legs and run around my house, clearly that is not the problem. I uninstalled the card and hardware, and then reinstalled both - BUT NOTHING WORKS. The stupid little green light doesn't even come on anymore, and it doesn't work no matter which slot it is in.
Not to mention besides not working, the antenna is pretty much in the way of any wires or cables you hope to have connected to the tower. Card is also difficult to put into the tower in the first place.
I liked the Linksys router (for the most part, except when my internet connection was reset randomly thanks to the cable company, but I don't blame the router for freaking out during that) but Linksys sure doesn't know how to make wireless cards that function properly.
I will be replacing this card with a different brand.
Owned two for two years, going strong........2007-09-17
First of all, a lot of people seem to be confused as to what "SpeedBooster" means. It has nothing to do with accessing the internet any faster. It is strictly a speed booster for transferring files between your networked PCs. So if you never transfer large files between PCs, you are essentially throwing your money away on SpeedBooster anything from Linksys.
That said, I have only had one problem with one of these cards: the screw in antenna broke off at the plastic thread connection and I have it taped up. In two years I've gone through three different internet access providers and networks and never once have the two PCs ever had a problem. My other PC uses the Linksys USB wireless network adapter and my laptop uses a built in Dell card. None of these four PCs have ever had a problem communicating with each other in my home network.
One surprising thing is that the price hasn't dropped much in two years even as newer wireless formats have come out like N. Performance wise with distance, the USB wireless adapter picks up from a much longer range that these PCI cards. If you have a PC on a different floor or on the opposite end of the house from the router and your house is rather large with lots of obstructions, you will probably need an access point or a signal booster on your network to use these.
Excellent Card.......2007-09-09
Typical of Linksys products this is a simple reliable card. I installed it in my Dell XPS in under 15 minutes. A bit of simple configuration and I was up and running on my network.
Well worth the money
Great Card!! .......2007-09-02
The Linksys Wireless-G network card is great. I had no problems installing the card with Windows Vista: 64 Bit. Although problems did arise when I tried to install the card drivers, but that is just vista being vista, I got it to work without the software and it works just as good. Other than that.. The card is great, my connection is always very good, and I never lose signal now. (My last card was a gigabyte and I'd lose signals every 10 minutes or so) This card is most def. a recommended if your router is far away.
You get what you pay for........2007-08-10
When I bought this product I had the Linksys router to go along with it on another computer and this wireless card was receiving the signal not even 20 feet away on the same floor, and the signal is only about 66 percent which is horrible, the only thing that helps is the speedbooster but not enough to pay extra for it. This card loses connection constantly, even when I am not on the internet, the signal is horrible and the card itself is flimsy looking. My advice is to get something a little more expensive and spare yourself the personal anguish of this product.

Allowing a desktop computer to wirelessly access the Internet, e-mail, transfer files and more! It also features Buffalo's latest wireless technologies: AOSS and 125 High Speed Mode. AOSS stands for AirStation OneTouch Secure System. Amazon.com Product Description
The AirStation WLI2-PCI-G54S 125 High Speed Mode Wireless Desktop PCI Adapter offers a fast and flexible wireless solution for your desktop PC. With Buffalo's exclusive AirStation One-Touch Secure System (AOSS), creating a secure wireless connection is now hassle-free. The low profile design of the wireless PCI adapter can accommodate desktops with either full size or low profile PCI slots. The 125 High Speed Mode Wireless Desktop PCI Adapter adheres to the IEEE 802.11g standard and is interoperable with any 802.11b device. Using the included antenna connector, the detachable antenna can be replaced with a 2.4 GHz antenna for flexible placement or extended range.
When operating in High Speed Mode, this AirStation achieves an actual throughput of up to 34.1 Mbps, which is the equivalent throughput of a system following 802.11g protocol and operating at a signaling rate of 125Mbps.
What Is AOSS? Setting up a secure wireless network can be too complicated, involving many tedious steps and requiring a certain level of expertise to complete. BuffaloÕs AirStation OneTouch Secure System (AOSS) allows you to create a hi-speed secure wireless connection with a push of a button and a click of the mouse. AOSS automatically detects and configures other AOSS enabled wireless devices and clients and seamlessly creates secure connections. As you add additional devices, security is negotiated at the highest level possible for all devices on the network. Say, for example, that you have one AOSS client that supports both WEP and WPA level encryption, while another client that supports only WEP. The AirStation automatically adjusts the security level to one that both clients will support.
What's in the Box
This package contains the AirStation 125 High Speed Mode Wireless PCI Card, low-profile bracket, antenna exchange adapter, CD-ROM with drivers and manual, and printed Quick Setup Guide. It's backed by 24/7 toll-free tech support and a 2-year warranty.
Tech Talk
- AES: The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is the U.S. government's next-generation cryptography algorithm, phasing out the older DES format.
- TKIP: The next generation of WEP, the Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP, pronounced tee-kip) provides per-packet key mixing, a message integrity check and a re-keying mechanism to secure 802.11 wireless LANs.
- WEP: A data encryption method used to protect transmission between 802.11 clients and access points, the Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) standard is now considered insufficient, with WPA encryption a more secure choice.
- WPA: Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) improves the security of 802.11 networks, using 802.1x and EAP to restrict network access and its own encryption (TKIP) to secure data during transmission.

Over adveristised.......2007-08-14
My opinion is just regular wireless card, nothing fancy, no better transfer 54 mbit max and the range is not extraordinary.
Good Card.......2007-08-13
This is the first time I set up a wireless desktop in my home. I had a lot of trouble configuring it until I set it to DHCP. Not a failure on the product, just user error. Works great and as advertised. Signal reception is not as strong as I expected but no drops have been experienced. I am using with LinkSys Wireless Access Point.
EXCELLENT TECH SUPPORT.......2007-07-29
Buffalo Technology WLI2PCIG54S 125 High Speed Mode Wireless Desktop Pci Adaptet With AOSSWOULD NOT HAVE CALLED BUFFALO'S TECH SUPPORT BUT I HAD A VERY ODD PROBLEM. THE INSTALLATION WAS VERY STRAIGHT UP AND EASY BUT FOR SOME REASON IT WOULDN'T ALLOW ME TO GO ON THE INTERNET. IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE TRIAL NORTON FIREWALL THAT HAD EXPIRED WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM THE WHOLE TIME. TECH SUPPORT SPOKE PERFECT ENGLISH, WAS VERY PATIENT AND HAD ME UP AND RUNNING IN NO TIME.VERY FAST CARD.I HAVE WINDOWS XP AND A WESTELL VERSALINK MODEL327 ROUTER FROM HAWAIIAN TELCOM,WHICH IS THE SAME AS VERIZON. I HOPE THIS HELPS.
Good deal for the price.......2007-07-17
I bought two of these adapters: one for each of my PCs. They are everything they say they are in the company promotional material and I have had no problems with them. You ought to read the promo material carefully before buying to be sure you're getting what you want, and read the directions once you get it. I'm using them with a non-Buffalo router (Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router) and they work great. I recommend this adapter to anyone intending to create a wireless network within the home.
You Get What You Pay For.......2007-07-05
I have it connected to a G network and it works just as fast as any other device I have. It's very stable; haven't seen it lose the wireless signal yet. The included software is easy to install and convenient if you ever have to switch between two or more wireless networks. It even ran with IE 5 installed, which the system requirements said it couldn't work with. Go figure.
Overall, the card works great. It is a bit on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for.

Easy to install. Love it!.......2007-07-11
The Netgear WG511 Wireless PC Card was very easy to install and worked immediately once I entered the passphrase.
More Than What You Pay For!.......2007-07-06
Works great right out of the box for me. Set up done and the card was working in a couple of minutes. Range is so so but this is a very functional unit. If you need a wireless card for your laptop and don't have much cash then get one.
Works better than most others.......2007-06-03
I've learned a while back that the wireless connection is more temperamental then wired and the signal a lot weaker and more prone to interruptions. This pretty much is a fact regardless of which adapter you put in and the difference between a B and G is almost unnoticeable. The netgear is one of a few that is backward compatible with older operating systems. I use it on an older Sony laptop running WIN 98 and the connection is good most of the times. Hard to beat it for the price.
Great Wireless.......2007-05-30
If you own the Netgear router for this card so that your network supports MIMO then you are going to love this card. I had some issues with the software until I realized that I needed to bypass the setup CD and get the drivers on the internet to resolve many issues. After I got it up and running then I've been gettin 108Mps through out the house on both floors and every corner. I was using a linksys before, but the MIMO seems to be the place to be until they get the "N" technology out in the market full force.
The Best Service.......2007-05-07
I really like the fast, prompt, and couteous Service that I recieved.

1 Month of use and no issues. Took less than 2 mins to install.
XP Pro and Drivers.......2007-09-01
1 star for driver installation. If you're running XP Pro, make sure you you manually select the driver and turn off auto install and select the one that is listed in the manual...not the libertas one.
Great Product.......2007-08-23
We had no problem installing and using this wireless card. It works well for us. I would highly recommend it, especially for the price.
Works Great!.......2007-08-16
This Adapter works great! Its really cheap. But the interface of its driver has some limitations. But range and network is better than its software that I dont bother.
trouble free.......2007-08-10
I bought for my daughter's computer that is on the second floor. The main computer is downstairs. The card was very easy to install and works beautifully.

nice.......2007-09-26
Free shipping thats a pain thing. I had to wait 2 weeks until it was delivered to me. I dont live in Alaska though. Card is very good: good speed, easy to install. What else do you need...
Fine product, but costly.......2007-09-15
Belkin F5D7010 Wireless 54 Mbps Notebook Card
I thought I had purchased this item ($34.12), with a $30.00 gift card, expecting to be billed the balance on my master card. This month's bill came with the full ($34.12) amount billed. Now In selecting a product link,(above) the price is lower at $22.95. Go figure!
No major complaints.......2007-08-15
These devices are basically all the same these days. I got this card because it is supposedly compatible with Linux, but then I ended up needing to keep Windows installed on my laptop.
My only complaint was that the Belkin software isn't all that great, but I just ended up using the Windows wireless configuration tool. Specifically, I think my problem was with entering my WEP key as ASCII.
Good Budget Card.......2007-08-02
Good card for those on a budget. I dual boot on my laptop between Windows and Ubuntu. Card works great with decent reception strength in Windows and I have been able to get it working with Ubuntu.
However if you are buying this for a linux installation, I would suggest searching the support forums of your linux distribution before purchasing. The card I received had the Broadcom BCM4318 chipset [AirForce One 54g] which was recognized but wouldn't "work" out of the box. It seems most linux distributions don't contain firmware to fully enable Broadcom based cards because of copyright etc... I needed to use wired connection to download firmware to fully activate natively supported kernel drivers. In the end I didn't like performance so went the ndiswrapper path.
Summary - Good card with no problems in Windows. If you are new to Linux or want simple plug and play you might want to try another card.
Easy Install and Great Range.......2007-06-16
My mother and I were looking for a wireless internet card for her laptop. She has an older laptop running Windows ME. We searched around and this wireless card had the best reviews of any on this site. So we went and bought one. The installation was simple (took about 5 minutes). We live in a house behind the main house. The main house has the wireless router, yet in our house (about 60 feet away through numerous walls) the reception is amazing with a whopping four bars. The CD with the installation drivers worked fine and dandy and there was no trouble with the product whatsoever. I would most certainly buy Belkin products again!

Works like a champ on XP..........2007-09-01
Purchased this item for a client to put an aging VPR Matrix desktop on their wireless network. Ran the setup CD, plugged the unit in when prompted using the supplied USB cable and bingo, we're cookin' with 4-5 bars of signal strength at 60' through 2 cement block walls! Experimented with placement a little bit, then velcroed the unit to the wall using the supplied plastic "shoe." Well worth the $40.00 to avoid pulling cable.
OK in XP, not so OK in Vista.......2007-08-25
I have been using Netgear for many years. I have the 624 router & the WG311T adapter in my son's computer, both have worked well now for a few years now. Got a new computer, dual booted w/XP & Vista, & thought I would try the WG111T USB adapter. BIG MISTAKE!! I got it to work in both OS's, but constantly had to reset in the 2 months I have had installed. Installation was not easy, took several attempts in both OS's before I got it working. I have been using Vista more often & was constantly having to reset, so I attempted to reinstall driver. BIGGER MISTAKE!!! This adapter is not VISTA friendly, I could not reinstall. When I uninstall driver before reinstalling, it does not completely uninstall in Vista. Reinstall just keeps adding additional adapters, same name followed by a number (I got up to #11). Called Netgear for help, after several failed attempts, they blamed it on Vista & told me to call MicroSoft. Did an internet search & found several other users having this problem, but found no solution. Ended up going out & buying anoher WG311T, which is what I should have done in the 1st place. I give it a 2 because it does work most of the time in XP. But I would not reccommend buying.
Wireless Technology.......2007-06-27
This product is absolutely terrible. It will not work with Vista. It gives you the blue screen of death, and has a dialup + connection. It's got broadband speeds but disconnects from the wireless network just like a dialup connection. It kills hard drives by making Vista freeze up. Vista is unstable because of this piece of junk which overheats and disconnects from the network.
DO NOT BUY NETGEAR PRODUCTS.......2007-06-16
I bought this wireless adapter about 2 years ago, and discontinued using it after about two months because the connection was very sporadic and slow. Their customer support staff was totally and completely unhelpful. I later found out that part of the problem was the Netgear wireless router, which was unreliable in its ability to transmit the signals, and I had to unplug and then fully restart both the cable modem and the router several times a day. I switched to a Netgear wire router, which was only slightly more reliable and was able to deliver higher speeds, but I still found myself unplugging and restarting every few days.
I recently bought a new non-Netgear wireless router (Linksys, which works great), and the Netgear adapter seems to be working well, that is, until it starts to overheat. It only takes a few hours for it to overheat and it just stops working, so I have to unplug it to let it cool down then replug. I've read that others have been experiencing the same problem with their wireless adapters.
After trying 3 different Netgear products, I would NEVER AGAIN buy another product from them. Their products are inferior and prone to problems, and good luck getting technical support. Save your money and avoid headaches, DON'T BUY NETGEAR.
Netgear WG111T 108 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter.......2007-05-18
Fantastic product at a fantastic price. Using it with Vista premium home edition.

The LINKSYS WGA54G Wireless-G Game Adapter gives any wired Ethernet-equipped game console 802.11g wireless connection capabilities. If you have an existing home wireless network and a cable or DSL Internet connection, the Game Adapter connects your PlayStation2, Xbox or GameCube to the network. That way, you can get into online games without running wires to the game room. Or, use a pair of Game Adapters to form a "cable-less cable" between two game consoles, for head-to-head gaming -- in the same room, or all the way across the house.

Works Great!.......2007-08-28
I bought this Adapter with mixed feelings after reading some of the reviews on Amazon. But, I so wanted to get on Xbox Live that I went and bought it...hook-up was a snap, and I got it running within half and hour. Since then, its worked great, and money well spent...
Worked great for years - then I messed it up and needed help........2007-07-31
I set this up years ago and it worked great. Last week I tried setting up WPA until I realized the game adapter couldn't support it. I then switched back to WEP and the game adapter was not happy.
It took me two hours on the phone with a Linksys rep and nearly a hundred different attempts. They tried to convince me to switch to 64bit and I insisted on keeping it at 128. The HTTP setup page was doing strange things and I could never "apply" my changes. It would always disconnect or change from channel 6 to channel 1.
Finally he had me hook the adapter up to my PC and test out the connection. It worked and he realized all we had to do is let the adapter dynamically select an IP address. All that time and a second tier rep could have done this in 15 minutes.
I use a Wireless-G Range Expander, so my signal strength is pretty strong and the Xbox 360 connection is decent. The Range Expander was a four-hour ordeal with Linksys. Getting these devices to work is 75% luck and 25% skill.
No WPA Support.......2007-07-30
I made the mistake of assuming that a wireless product still current in July 2007 would support WPA. Oops. I've read that there's a version WGA54G version 2 that does support WPA, but it's the same SKU so there's no way to know which one you're getting when you buy it. So it's on its way back to Amazon. There was a time when Linksys could be relied on to have useful products at a reasonable price, but my last few experiences with them haven't been that great. I think I'll try the Buffalo Technology AirStation Turbo G High Power Wireless Ethernet Converter ( WLI-TX4-G54HP )
No Problems On a PS2.......2007-07-23
I've read the networking nightmare stories on other reviews of this product and I have to say that I didn't have any of that. If you set up the wireless network in your own house, you should know what has to be done. In fact, for WEP networks, Linksys even lets you put in the passphrase and it will generate the key if you don't want to type in a long string of characters. Once I configured this on a PC (which took
< 5 minutes), I just had to configure the ISP from the setup disc of the PS2 and my son was online in no time.
Don't buy this!.......2007-06-17
This thing is horrible it dosen't keep the connection for more than an hour, setup is difficult and Linksys customer support is awful. If you have a Xbox 360 buy the 360 network adapter even though it's overpriced it works.

excellent condition, user-friendly, speed shipment.......2007-09-15
easy installment, sent out the next day after I place my order. I received it in 3 days.
Great.......2007-09-13
The signal will often show no bars or one bar for networks that should be within range. However, it is very good at connecting to these networks and keeping signals. Very reliable overall and very good value. Just short of perfect.
Good product.......2007-06-19
I bought the first TrendNet card six months ago, for my son in college. He had no problem installing the card and using it in the campus. So I bought another one for myself two months ago. Again I had no problem with it. I used if in all hotels that provide wireless connection. The installation is simple and straight forward. The download speed is satisfactory. The price is much lower than others. The only reason I give it a 4-star rating is that I havn't tried any others. May be they do have a lightening speed, but I am very happy with mine.
EZ to install under XP.......2007-05-30
Installation was a snap. Instructions were easy to follow.
Configuration software is NICE...
...except that it's in one of those windows that cannot be resized. The list of neighbor nodes has to be scrolled vertically and horizontally as a consequence, but it could easily be displayed in its entirety in a larger window. I'm pointing this out in hopes that someone influential at TRENDnet might happen to read this.
I'm rapidly becoming a fan of TRENDnet.
No problems under Fedora Core 6.......2007-04-13
I bought this card to replace a TI ACX-100 chipset 802.11b card that was difficult to keep working under Linux. So far this TrendNet card has worked great under Fedora Core 6 using the madwifi driver.
I was able to easily yum the madwifi rpm for FC6. More importantly, when I do other updates, I don't have to reinstall the driver (problems I saw with using ndiswrapper and the TI card).
I would definitely suggest this card for anyone looking to get their Linux laptop wireless.

Product Description
For users seeking a simple solution to improve the reach of their wireless signal within their home or office, the DWL-G710 is the answer. This Wireless Range Extender takes an existing 802.11g wireless signal and ?repeats? it to enable wireless connectivity in the basement, patio, garage or any ?dead spot? areas where your original wireless signal could not reach. It's capable of repeating the signal of virtually any 802.11g wireless router or access point out on the market today. At the same time, the DWL-G710 can still communicate with other 802.11b/g wireless client devices.

Worked after filtering confusing directions.......2007-09-04
I was able to get this product up and running very effectively with my NetGear WPN824 Mimo Router in spite of reports in other reviews to the contrary. Kudos to E. Isaacov for very clear instructions--I would just add this direction from J. Lau to the list--After setting your new range extender, "Go back to Control Panel to reset your Internet Protocol back to the original setting: mine was 'Obtain an IP address automatically.'"
Once I understood that, I was able to set up quickly and effectively. It is working great.
Be EXTREMELY cautious if you choose to proceed........2007-09-02
I agree with the others' sentiments - the bottom line is that this range extender WILL NOT WORK with a large number of routers on the market, including ones by D-Link. I have the top-of-the-line D-Link wireless router, and only after 2.5 hours navigating the atrocious customer service queues with no problem resolution, did I directly ask them, "is this product known not to work with this router?" They said they would check their list, and returned to say, "Yes, this may be the problem - it is not compatible with your router."
This stark fact perhaps ought to be one of the first things that they lead with in their troubleshooting methodology - in addition, it should really be something that they advertise on the packaging, or at least somewhere in the product manual ("this product is incompatible with the following routers"). The fact that they seem to suppress, or at best fail to mention, this vital information, leads me to call into question their sales intentions. Their omission has definitely produced a very negative customer experience on my part, and thus I am here through the only feedback mechanism we have available to us to help each other - the product review - which I rarely do. So all I can say is, if you are interested in supporting this product with your money, make certain that you first check for compatibility via a knowledgeable source, as otherwise, even if you follow the instructions to the letter, it will not work for you (you will be able to log in to the device via wired network, you will be able to associate your computer wirelessly, but you will not be able to send or receive information over the wireless). Good luck!
BEWARE FOR MASOCHISTS ONLY.......2007-08-13
Istall only to find inoperative as I have received a defective unit. At own expense return unit and weeks later receive a replacement. Install new unit that seems to be too easy to believe - it was and the new unit crashed my PC - system restore and system repair could not remove certain conflicting netwrok related codes. I get to toally rebuild my system with an entire reinstall. PS - insult to injury DLink wants me to return the unit to Amazon as the original purchase made there and guess what the 30 day window is now closed. UNLESS YOU NEED SOMETHING TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT. This from someone "familiar" with computers.
Have a nice day!
Good product, but carefully follow the directions precisely.......2007-08-06
I read all the reviews here before buying the product and just today installing it. I am a retired IT fellow who does a lot of this stuff.
This is a solid product that works well once you install it correctly. Make certain of compatibility BEFORE you buy and try. Open the short instruction set that comes with it. Read it carefully twice. Follow every word precisely. It will work within minutes.
It may not be clear but,
First connect the DWL-G710 using the supplied Ethernet cable to your ROUTER, not the PC.
It is clearly over-priced -- twice the price of the router, but if you need it, you need it.
In my case, my problem was a signal that was strong enough to get a web page, but not strong enough to hold a video conversation or play some interactive Internet-based games. This unit solved the problem. Oddly, the unit did the best to solve the problem immediately adjacent to the remote wirelessly-connected PC. You should be prepared to try a variey of positions to find where it works best.
May work, may not--do your research first.......2007-06-05
If you don't have D-link equipment, do your homework before buying this repeater. It may work with your setup, it may not. Make sure you find someone on the net who has successfully set up the unit with your specific configuration and find out how they did it. We use Netgear WG302 WAPs. I spent as much time trying to set up the DWL-G710 as we could afford. A subsequent look on the web revealed that other IT professionals have had no success with this specific configuration. Don't make my mistake--do your research first.
