Very handy but a little heavy.......2007-09-07

I have only used this product on one trip but I found it very handy. It allows the large blocks found on many electronics plenty of room. I also like the blue light that is in the plug. In a motel room, if you need to get up in the night, it give just enough light to see where you are going. The only negative thing I could say about it is that it is pretty heavy. Good piece of travel equipment for plugging in a laptop, cell phones, etc.

Device is just what it looks like and works fine.

Pros: small, compact, light, 6 plugs right where you need them. It lives in my laptop bag.

Cons: short cord, you may need an extension (this is also a Pro, of course). No On/Off switch. You need to unplug it from the wall if you use it on something that's subject to over charging or that you don't want to leave hot all the time.

Compact; has small lead that may dangle from outlet. Has a nice blue light that glows all the time. Have had for 3 months - no problem so far, and shouldn't have any problems as it's a fairly straigthforward piece of electronics.

This thing is really neat. It provides 4 ports on a short cord. The cord wraps around the body and makes a very small, easy to manage package. I take mine with me when I travel and it's been very useful.

I can not say enough good things about this game........2006-03-17

I can not say enough good things about this game.
It's super fun for all ages. I bought this game for my nephews and they actually put down their PSPs to play it!
I play against my girlfriend some times, but my friends have also begun to take interest in it. You have a map
of America, with cities and other bonus spaces on it. You have a monster (one of 6 to choose from) from the
classic 1950's monster films. You also get one of the 4 Branches of Military. After playing once, it gets addictive.
It requires luck of dice rolling, strategy of Military movement (you only get 8 units for each Branch), and
trash talking to get other players to go after another player's monster instead of yours.
At the end of the "regular" game (which is Monsters Vs. Military) you go Monster Vs. Monster in an
all out monster battle, to see who is the most powerful monster!
Kicks butt.
Get this game.

My only complaint is it is only for 4 players. We use the National Guard as a 5th player if we have more people.
There are 6 monsters to choose from, only 4 (not counting National guard) military branches.

The other games my friends, nephews, etc. like to play is called Dread Pirate. Get that as well. Simple and fun.
And it's got Pirates in it, so.... good choice.

A good game made great.......2005-06-25

As a fan of giant monsters (or "Kaiju" as we fanboys like to call them), I've always yearned for a good strategy board game that captures the kaiju feel. Well, finally, here it is.

MMA is actually a revision of an older game "Monsters Ravage America". I liked that game a lot, but this one has streamlined the play without losing anything in the process. There's also a lot less counters to keep track of, which is so much more convenient.

Game play is deceptively simple. Each player gets a monster and a military branch. Your goal is to make your monster as powerful as possible by stomping cities, military bases, famous landmarks, etc, and maybe stopping by a toxic waste dump to pick up a handy dandy mutation. Meanwhile, you use your military units to harrass and weaken your opponent's monsters. After a certain number of cities have been stomped, it's time for the monster showdown, where one victor will be crowned King of the Monsters.

Presentation is colorful and fun. There's enough strategy for multiple plays and enough luck to keep it interesting. If you love Kaiju like I love Kaiju, I highly recommend this game.

Avalon Hill's Divine Comedy.......2005-05-12

To any fan of Avalon Hill, August 8, 1998 is the true day of infamy! This game, previously known as "Monsters Ravage America" was a late Avalon Hill product before their demise and not too many people acquired it because it's existence was unknown. To the few who were able to get a copy, you know who you are! This is a VERY ENTERTAINING game in the best spirit of Gigantic Monster Movie FUN. The rules have been simplified, but the essential plan of the game is the same. You have monsters that look like Godzilla, King Kong, The Deadly Mantis, The Smog Monster, A giant lobster man ala' "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea", and a BIG EYE. All have certain powers and can go hollywood if they run out of strength..and in the best spirit of monster movies can DISAPPEAR suddenly and return at a later time to set a new path of terror and destruction. You get the usual set of hapless Army, Navy, National Guard and Marines unloading thousands of rounds of ammo to bring down the beasts by using massed attacks. It sometimes works but the monsters can always go hollywood until they get their vitality back! The scene of disaster is AMERICA, not JAPAN. I would venture to say this is to the great relief of that previously ravaged country. Your creature may mutate at Three Mile Island and become something different entirely and the game ends with a "Carnival of Monsters" contest to duke it out and see who's the greatest. A great game and unlike other "war" games of the era, FUN.

Very well designed product. Great idea with one module with nylon fibers to help run, and make cables more attractive coming through wall. Flat receptable plug in for behind t.v. is a great idea, but the other end would not fit in my Panasonic with the bump out on the end. Contacted Monster cable on their web page,and asked them for information if they had any that would fit into my Panasonic, and they did not respond. Over satisfied, but not happy with their customer service not responding.

Good product, but not with all TV's.......2007-08-09

I believe this is a good product, but the technology is not there so that it works with all TV's. I ordered from an online seller via Amazon and found that I was unable to return the product because the box had been opened. I would call MonsterCable before I purchased because they informed me (after the fact) that this product does not work with my TV. When I say it does not work with my TV, I mean it does not work 100%. I am able to use it as a battery back up, but it will not turn the TV off when the power goes out. So, the product does what I need it to, but the extras are not functional. Hope this helps someone looking to buy this product.

Not all that great ..........2007-03-30

Well, I got this for my father's new setup, he got a Panasonic 37PX60U and I know he needed a decent power supply for it. When I stumbled upon this guy, it was for $80 dollars used, and was a UPS that also advertised "Clean Power: Stage 1". I worked at Best Buy for half a year, and "Clean Power" is supposed to mean a constant voltage, e.g. surge protection. So I said hey, great deal.

Well, the power went out for the first time and the system powered right off, found to have a defective battery when I called Monster. They were very prompt, not a hassle at all and agreed to replace the unit (though I have to pay shipping on that heavy sucker). But, what the techie told me on the phone is that this is NOT a surge protector. Wha? He said I should have the UPS plugged into a surge protector that is plugged into the wall.

That's not right. But for the price I got it for (as long as it works next time) the product is stable when on, sleek & modern. However, it does have a relatively small power capacity of 360 watts - which is just enough for a typical Plasma alone.

Again, with this model phasing out, if you can get it for a good deal then by all means grab it. And buy it used because remember that Monster has a 3-5-lifetime warranty on most of their products. Thats value to me.

easy set-up/reliable performance.......2007-03-08

I usually have trouble setting up new electronic equipment. Happily, the clear instructions were easy to follow and the unit did what it was supposed to do after each step.
I bought this device to protect my rear projection TV from surges and power failures. I especially like the feature which controls the "cool-down" sequence where the unit's battery provides the power to the TV for the cooling fan to safely cool the TV's expensive and delicate bulb during power outages.
It is a nice-looking, well-made, rugged piece of equipment and has worked reliably.

Defective and Annoying.......2007-02-23

My original unit stopped working soon after getting it. It sounded its loud, shrieking alarm and then THUD!. It wouldn't power back up. I sent it in and received another unit which seemed to work fine for the next year or so. Just last night however, for no reason at all, it did the same thing. The alarm sounded, there was a thud, and it wouldn't power back on. In both cases, the TV was not on! We weren't using any audio/visual equipment and it went dead.

The other annoying thing about this item is that on random occasions, when I power on my amplifier - which is NOT plugged into the HTUPS 500, the HTUPS 500 sounds its loud shreiking alarm for a few seconds. I can't seem to mute the alarm. One other thing: the lights on the front are extremely bright. Too bright for my tastes. In a dark room they light up the floor! I have to turn the unit 90 degrees so the lights face a different direction.

Defective merchandise.......2007-01-09

The unit was received defective.
My system was set up 60 days after receiving all the components.The Monster Cable HTUPS 500 was defective and had to be returned to the mfg, at my expense($30.00), since the shipper refused to replace.

Excellent Product, Too Expensive.......2007-03-08

We're using this to control the reading light and television in our six-year-old daughters' room. Our first inclination was to purchase a cheap outlet timer to turn the "forbidden devices" off at bedtime, but reality prevented us from doing so. On non-school-nights, we try to be flexible with her reading time; when she's sick, we'll give her extended TV time to encourage her to rest in bed longer. It became obvious we wanted control over them without having to enter the room (not to mention that she's on the second floor and we're typically downstairs when she goes to read...yes, sad to say, laziness is part of the lure of this device).

It would get a perfect score except for the price. The remote is simply amazing, but suffers from the same disease -- the "some Americans will always equate 'best' with 'most expensive'" syndrome. The limitation here is that we would buy many more dimmers if not for the cost.

I still recommend it if you don't mind parting with some serious money.
