Amazon.com Product Description
The Canon EOS Rebel 2000 is an affordable, lightweight, andfull-featured automatic 35mm SLR for both beginning and advancedamateur photographers. It offers a host of special modes for specificshooting situations, including full auto, manual, night scene, portrait, landscape, and more. It also has shutter-speed priority andaperture priority modes--although most users will inevitably leave thecamera in full auto mode a majority of the time and the cameraperforms very well that way. Just remember that the empty rectanglesymbol on the mode dial is for full auto.
Some other basic features include an impressive seven-point autofocussystem, LCD panel with extensive information display, three exposuremetering modes (evaluative, partial, and centerweighted), autoexposure bracketing, a multiple exposure function, and depth-of-fieldpreview. The autofocus system is incredibly responsive, and includesseven focusing points that can be set individually for super creativeshooting. In other words, using the LCD panel as a guide, you can setthe camera to automatically focus on the far right focus point (or anyof the other points) so your main subject doesn't have to be in themiddle of the frame to be in focus in a snap.
In fact, most settings can be adjusted in creative ways on the Rebel2000, like the exposure level, which can be set to overexpose orunderexpose up to two full stops for tricky lighting situations whereyou might want to fool the camera's metering system. It also has asmall, built-in pop-up flash, plus a hot shoe for an additional flashunit. Overall, we found this camera to be smartly designed with anattractive look and a comfortable feel.
Customer Reviews:
Great Camera for beginners.......2007-08-21
Unlike a lot of reports about grainy pictures and what not; this camera is really top notch! This is my first camera and I got some really great shots already, the grainy complaint was probably due to people using a higher ISO and not knowing much about camera settings. You'll definitely want a zoom lens though, the 28-80mm is nice for normal everyday things, but if you really want to experiment try looking for a 28-300 or even a 70-300mm lens.
Definitely recommended for amateurs.
Another great product from Canon.......2005-12-30
I had this camera for years before it was stolen and I replaced it with a digital Canon SLR. I am still amazed at the abuse I put my Rebel 2000 through. It has a nice light body, a great auto feature, and easy-enough to use manual functions. And because of the popularity (and rightly so) of digital these days, you can pick one up for a fantastic price, even brand spanking new.
Excellent Camera: Easily beats a Digital camera for its price.......2005-09-18
I have had this camera for about 4 yrs now - I take it on all my business travels.
Whenever I get a chance to go out on on the weekends, I take this camera and my Sony camcorder in my backpack, roam the streets of the new city and shoot pictures. The pictures that I shoot from this camera are just awesome - no matter whatever experiment I do with it.
Most useful features:
1. Aperture control with Depth of field preview
- Lets to focus the foreground and blur the background
2. Shutter speed control upto infinity
- Lets you control the amount of time for which the shutter can be kept open
3. It is pretty rugged, dont try dropping it :) I have used it to shoot pics from 'Maid of the mist' in Niagara falls and I almost thought that I was going to lose it. But it worked liked a charm
Negatives
- Bulky, but you will get used to it, it always gets attention
- Cost of developing film - What I do these days is to just get the photos on a CD, then develop only those photographs that are good.
Why is this camera better than a Digital Camera ?
- If you are spending $200 on a Digital Camera, I feel that the SLR is way far too ahead of any Digital camera in that price range
- If you are spending $1000 on a Digital Camera, a Digital SLRs are very mature today - worth buying.
Ideally, I would buy this SLR, take this whenever I really want to take good photographs, then I would also want to have a $100 Kodak Digital Camera for casual shots. This would mean an ideal combination.
If you are buying this SLR, you can also consider buying a Film/Photo scanners (available for less than $150 now) - which lets you scan the negatives/positives without even going for a cheap CD print. From the reviews what I read on amazon, these scanners must be amazing.
love it.......2005-08-24
I bought this camera for my wife for Christmas 04' I thought I ordered it too late for it to arrive on time for Christmas, but these people are great! they got it to me on time and we love this camera we use it all the time - we have several accs. item for it and the quality of the picture are wonderful . Thanks Mark Christian
Great camera but not the cf card ejection button.......2005-07-09
I've had my camera for 1 year 4 months The camera did everything I wanted it to do and more until 2 months after the warranty ran out. Then, attempting to eject the flash card, the button went into the camera body and hasn't been seen since.
Canon has had the camera (along with the $300+ it will cost to repair it) for 45 days so far and no camera or word as to when it will be returned.
So beware of the cf card button!
Otherwise? 5 stars!

Customer Reviews:
Great Beginner SLR Camera to Grow With!!.......2005-03-13
I bought this camera a year ago as my starter camera to learn about film photography. I really didn't know anything about photography when I purchased it, and I still have A LOT to learn, however, I feel as though it's a camera that can grow with me. It has automatic presets that make taking photos for a novice handy - not much thought required, but also allows you to set manual settings so you can experiment and learn.
Another review mentioned the body being cheap. I disagree. The body seems fine to me, and to be quite honest, a camera is not something that you should be rough with. Set it down gently and handle it properly as to avoid ruining the lens or some component within the camera.
The pictures have been fantastic. I highly recommend this camera for someone who is starting out and wants to learn more. It will grow with you. Enjoy!
Realize what entry level means..........2004-08-30
Being an entry level SRL, the camera body is cheap & light because it is made out of plastic. This more than fine for someone who'd like an SRL to use for specal occasions - kids'birthdays, graduations, or the occasional family road trip.
But if you're a serious photogapher, who plans doing much heavier photography and / or traveling, let me suggest you look for a sturdier camera, since my experience with this camera wasn't very good. The body was very easily scratched, and basically burned out less than 2 years after I bought it.
So if you're a photo enthuseist looking for a good camera - please consider the fact that this camera wears out quickly (partly because of the plastic), and sooner of later you may be looking for a sturdier body.
Excellent entry level camera.......2002-09-15
I love the camera but it seems difficult to find some accessories which I had come to rely on with my old camera. I may just have to upgrade to another Canon SLR.
I bought the Rebel 2000 over a year and a half ago. My previous camera was a twenty-year-old Canon AE-1. I was very happy with the AE-1 but was having trouble seeing to focus in low-light situations. So far the Rebel 2000 has been a great camera - I think I've used every feature at least once. I added a 100 mm portrait lens.
My only dissatifaction is that I haven't been able to find a remote or off-camera shutter release that works. I was sold a Canon Remote Control RC1 which did not work. I like to use an off-camera shutter trigger of some kind in portrait and low-light conditions to minimize camera shake. I also can't find the cable to connect the hot shoe to my studio lights.
On the whole, I am happy with the Canon Rebel 2000.
falls apart after warranty expires.......2000-07-08
it's like this thing has a timer on it. When the warranty expires, it will literally fall apart. I say stay away from it. I'm kidding, it totally rules. You should buy it.
Rebel 2000 body.......2000-06-25
The Rebel 2000 is great for a begining photographer looking for a high quality inexpensive camera. It has many features much more expensive cameras have. feature such as a built in flash, many different automatic modes, a very quiet shutter, and a light wight body. I highly recommend this camera.

Amazon.com Product Description
The new generation of Canon Rebel 35mm SLR camera, the 2000 Date EF 28-90mm silver deluxe camera, is smaller and lighter than any of its predecessors. Besides its sleek all-silver color (including the 28-90mm zoom lens) and comfortable new body design, this camera has a faster AF and quieter overall operation. Many of its other functions, such as a seven-point autofocus, 35-zone AE metering, quartz data time/date stamp, and depth-of-field preview, have been added or improved upon. The seven-point autofocus system, five across and one above and below the center focusing point, contains a completely renovated focusing algorithm that increases the AF speed, improving selection accuracy of the automatic focusing point.
The high-speed selectable seven-point autofocus system is linked to the 35-zone metering system as well as Canon's exclusive E-TTL autoflash system. Focusing point selection is chosen by the camera when it is set on automatic, or by the user if the photographer chooses manual mode. If the camera is on automatic, the shutter will not release until it perceives that the image is in focus. However, manual mode gives the photographer the freedom to determine how sharply in focus he or she wants the image. The TTL full-aperture metering has three patterns available: evaluative metering, central partial metering (which covers approximately 95 percent of the finder area), and center-weighted average metering. Though center-weighted metering is available, it can be used only when the camera is set on manual. This 35-zone metering system allows the photographer more precise exposure control in all of the available metering modes.
Though this camera comes complete with many standard features for the beginner, advanced functions are also available for the more experienced photographer. Among these features are: a choice of evaluative or partial metering patterns, AE lock, auto exposure bracketing, and multiple exposure. These features, coupled with the Rebel's convenient built-in retractable flash and 11 versatile shooting modes, give any photographer the creativity to capture landscapes, portraits, vacation moments, sporting events, and other special occasions.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent camera!.......2003-05-08
This my first SLR, although I'd borrowed others from friends for a while. I bought this right before spending three months driving cross-country and shooting in a ton of different conditions. I hiked hundreds of miles, shot over 50 rolls, and it always did a great job, regardless of whether I was using the manual settings or the automatics ones. The advanced features are easy to use if you just spend a little bit of time reading the instructions. Having been used to older SLR's without any sort of automatic or digital features, I was thrilled with all the options this camera provided.
I think the lens Canon include is somewhat cheap, as it is very lightweight and plastic. I bought a Sigma 100-300mm lens for the camera and it feels much more sturdy and well built than Canon's included 28-90mm. However, Canon's lens never gave me any trouble, it just felt cheap.
I would suggest buying a number of accessories for the camera, such as a tripod, polarizing filter, UVA filter, remote shutter release (to avoid shaking the camera when it's on a tripod and for long exposures), and a larger zoom lens (Sigma makes some great ones that are less expensive than Canon's).
This Canon Got All for a Beginer.......2003-02-02
This a very beutiful and good start camera. 28-90 mm Lens, Silver, Date are specialities of this camera. You will love it
to have this in Hands. For more serius photographers may seek
higher end models for reasons such as Plastic lens mount and wide
range of accessories. But for a beginer, This is a wonderful canon to own.
Keep It Simple, Stupid.......2002-11-22
I love this camera! I take rodeo photos and my action pictures always turn out right! When asked about aperature and f/stop settings, I sheepishly grin and tell people this camera takes care of all the details for me because I set the dial to "P" mode and cheat my way through! Awesome, Awesome camera...
Great value and features for beginners.......2002-11-19
I bought this camera not knowing much about cameras but wanting one that would allow me to expand later. I read the manual and knew I'd be using the auto feature most of the time for now. The manual is concise but efficient for beginners. All my pics taken so far have been with Kodak 400 film and are very clear and crisp. The evening shots I took in Vegas were using the pre-set auto feature for darker environments which came out amazing! The vista shots using the pre-set for background shots of Grand Canyon came out spectacular: wide area covered with great detail. It is light weight enough that I walked around Vegas with this on my neck and the battery is still strong after 5 rolls of film. The styling is very updated with the silver body and the 28-90mm lens covered every possible scenario I was interested in taking. The kit I got included (...) a nice Canon canvas case, camera straps, mini-album and battery. Good value for the price. Considered the Olympus IS-50 also but wanted the option of changine lenses later on.
Great camera, research for lenses before buying.......2002-09-28
I'm an amateur photographer an decided to buy this kit because of the camera, the looks, and the fact that I've purchased many times from Amazon and have no complaints about it.
I did some research on the camera and in simple terms this one is great, from full automatic to full manual it has many features that don't come by this price with other brands.
But after more reading and experience I found that what really matter besides your camera skills are the lenses, so my recommendation would be to buy just the camera body and find
a set of lenses that will enable you to get the widest range possible with the same diameter for filters and the price that match your budget. If you find your self loving photography as I did you will also be willing to buy a tripod, the remote switch and some filters ... .
I also recommend the National Geographic Field Guide book, it's great reading, with good tips and great photos.

It works.......2007-09-24
Not much to say ... it does whats expected. Quality of the image is ok.. quality of lens is just ok
great inexpensive lens.......2007-05-28
For the money it's hard to go wrong with this lens. I have used it on my Rebel 35mm SLR and on my Canon Rebel XTi and have had good luck with both. Sure, it may not give 100% of the image quality of a $300 or $500 lens, but for the money you get a good lens and save a lot of money to put towards a nice zoom lens.
Wide Angle Lens.......2007-05-21
Lens is fine now that I have it...First one had to be returned, defective, and I got the return of the good one 2 weeks later, no problem on the return..Everyone cooperated fine. Recommend all highly.

Clarity and sharpness of the pictures are not that great. Yet, if you think about the price of this lens, it's not really that bad. The material used feels and looks like a toy. If you really want a good wide angle lens, I recommend Canon 10-22mm or if you want something cheaper, a Sigma 10-20mm will give you the best result.

Product Description
The value and performance of this wide-angle lens soars to new heights. Landscapes, group portraiture, or travel photography, this lens was built to travel light. But it's no lightweight on quality. Tokina's AF 193 uses high-refraction, low-dispersion (HLD) all-glass optics made by Hoya Corporation and multi-coated with Tokina's exclusive anti-reflection coatings for outstanding optical performance in a value-priced lens.An internal zooming ability allows the focal length to be adjusted without the over-all length of the lens changing. Filters, such as circular polarizers and other special effects, can be used, and thanks to the internal focusing mechanism the filter will not move during focusing. The AF 193 handles and travels easily due to its compact design and lightweight materials. Which is important because now you can have the benefits of a super-wide angle zoom lens with you all the time!

Purchased this as a second choice vs a more expensive one as a christmas present to myself. I found it to be just what I wanted. Showed it to my daughter-in -law in Morganfield, KY who is a professional photographer and within the hour she got on the computer and purchased the exact same lense for use in her business. We both used these lenses over the holidays and could not be any happier. Great !!! Great !!! Great !!!
Tokina AF193 19-35mm on a Canon 350d (Rebel XT).......2007-01-04
The Tokina 19-35 is a affordable wide angle lens for the EF lens line. The autofocus works well (including in low light situations). The lines is of decent quality material (I don't think there is any plastic on the lines) and has worked flawlessly so far. I would recommend picking up the lens hood to reduce stray light from entering the lens. If you are looking for a wide angle lens this is very affordable. However, if you have the standard lens that comes with the 350D this lens won't provide a significant difference in terms of a wide shot.
Hope this helps!
GREAT LENS FOR THE $.......2006-11-10
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST WIDE ANGLE ZOOM LENS ON THE MARKET FOR THE MONEY. I USE IT ON MY CANON DIGITAL REBEL AND IT IS GREAT!
High performance, low price........2006-05-20
I recently bought one of these lenses and the first thing I did was test the optics. I was surprised to find that the resolution at full aperature was very high (center and edge) and marginally improved until you hit f8 or so. At f11 the image starts to soften up and at f22 it gets VERY soft. This lens likes to run at the wide side of the aperature scale. At 19mm, CA can be spotted at full aperature on objects backlit by a bright sky... but in minimal amounts. Stopping down to f5.6 removes any trace and produces a nice sharp image. I'd say this lens produces good images wide-open and outstanding images from f5.6 to f8. Anything above f11 should be avoided.
I compared the performance of this lens to my Sigma 24-70 EX DG and I find that Tokina holds up well in the comparison. The best images from the Sigma were no sharper than those from the Tokina at the same focal length. This says a lot considering the reputation the Sigma 24-70 has for image quality. CA levels were comparible between the Sigma and Tokina also (in short, VERY low and in controllable amounts).
Bottom line: I picked this up new for $125 plus $5 shipping. It easily keeps pace with lenses 4 times its price. If you want to buy a DSLR, I recommend that you buy the body only and pick up one of these lenses for starters.
