5 out of 5 stars Gets all the important channels at an excellent quality........2007-08-17

I live in Palo Alto, CA, ~30 miles from the stations. With this antenna I receive all the important channels: FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS, etc... in 1080i without any dropouts, the quality is amazing! I keep the rabbit ears tucked in because I'm not interested in the VHF stations, so the styling looks very modern. All in all I get ~45 digital stations and 15 analog. I can get more if I mess with position, but it's perfect as it is now.

This is my first antenna, I cannot compare it to any other, but I'm very satisfied.

5 out of 5 stars Stylish and powerful.......2007-01-19

I tried several different antennas in my apartment and this one worked the best. It even beat out the highly touted Terk antenna (the one that looks like a saw blade). I'm not sure if this means anything, but it claims to amplify the signal by 25db compared to most others that are in the 10-15db range. I liked it, but try it out first before you buy it.

2 out of 5 stars Stylish but Weak.......2006-03-31

I was able to compare this amplified antenna directly with the Zenith UN-amplifiend indoor HDTV antenna. The Zenith was at least 25% to 50% better at pulling in the weaker stations.

This RCA antenna LOOKS very nice with its wavy styling. But then you have to pull out its rabbit ears and set them askew to pick up a decent signal! That kills the styling advantage. And its soooo touchy about its positioning to pick up weaker stations, you practically have to do a voodoo dance and wave a plucked chicken around the TV to get some stations that the Zenith pulls in with barely any trouble.

So don't let your wife talk you into getting the RCA for its looks. Buy the Zenith instead!

I have a RCA unapmlified version of this antenna that does a better job. What a waste.

5 out of 5 stars marginal improvement over ANT401.......2006-09-02

This is basically no different than the 401, save for the clock. While the product is advertised as having 46 dB of gain, the box says 30 dB. But it works, and since I'm in an odd location, I can get more channels than I could with the 401. Plus, hard to find a decorative clock for 8 dollars (the difference between 401 and 501)

2 out of 5 stars No good for HDTV.......2006-01-14

The wire loop I was using for my HUMAX brought in a stronger and more consistant signal than this antenna. I would not recomend it for use with HDTV OTA tuners.

      3 out of 5 stars Works Okay.......2005-12-06

I use the UHF function of this antenna and it does a fair job of bringing in signals from area stations. Some signals are stronger than others; on some days the weather disturbs the single. This works better than the old, simple wire loop that came with the TV, and probably deserves a slightly higer rating-- 3.75 stars. By the way, the vendor delivered this item quickly.

5 out of 5 stars Does the job as well as much more expensive antennas.......2007-09-14

I use this this simple antenna for my HDTV DTV signal. I live ~11 miles from the transmitters and can pick up all UHF and the one hard to get VHF station as well or better than the higher priced Terks and Phillips HDTV antennas. I've tried several in the $30 - $40 range thinking higher price meant better performance for an indoor antenna, but I finally had to give up and try the old technology in order to get the the VHF DTV channels in my area (Houston). This simple set of rabbit ears did the trick and is the right price and pulls in all the DTV channels, so it's a good choice for those that live a modest distance from the DTV transmitters.

5 out of 5 stars Not a miracle worker, but pretty good..........2006-06-21

I'm very happy with this antenna. I still have to do a lot of adjusting to get good reception on certain channels, but no indoor antenna is going to work a miracle for your television reception (especially if your house seems to be in a hole like mine). This is definitely an improvement on the antenna that came with my television. Like the reviewer before me said, the base of this antenna is nicely weighted and has a very nice non-slip pad on the bottom of it. Overall, the product works well and looks nice. I do not regret buying it at all. Beware of thinking you're getting a great deal for this price, though. I got standard shipping and the shipping alone cost $15 (the UPS package was only 2lbs!).

5 out of 5 stars Great Reception, Great Value, Great Quality.......2006-05-15

This great RCA antenna has been around since the 70s, but every few years, they release an improved version of the ANT110. This one is currently the newest, and it's reception is clearer than ever! One of the best antennas available today. They've now also added to this model the capability to view HDTV signals over the air.

This antenna is not suitable for everyone though. People who have large TV sets, I'd say over 27", should get more powerful, amplified antennas. Otherwise, you'll might get weak signals. But for smaller TV sets, it's fine choice, and is perfectly clear. This antenna might also not work very well in an apartment building. It really depends on your situation; if there's alot of interference where you live, or if you reside close by or far from the broadcasting station.

I'm also very happy with the appearance of this new version. Unlike past versions, this one has a weighted base built-in, and has the UHF loop already attached to the antenna. The dipoles are a little bit difficult to move from their positions and require two hands, but I rarely have to do that. Usually I just move the base around until I get the clearest signal. And unlike other antennas that have very thin, useless padding, this one has a very thick non-slip, and non-scratching pad applied to the bottom of the base. I love this pad! I can easily slide the antenna around any surface without scraping or damaging anything.

Well, overall this a great choice for many people who still rely on over-the-air broadcasts. I sure hope you check it out!

(Update: I've found that newer versions of this exact same model has not been manufactured with the same quality as the earlier versions. The non-slip padding is a cheaper, thinner version, and even the base and dipoles seem different. The base is lighter, and the dipoles look shorter. I'm quite disapppoointed in RCA actaully. So beware, the higher quality versions might still be around, but most probably, you will get the cheaply made version that are currently in stores.)

2 out of 5 stars Good UHF reception, horrible VHF reception.......2006-12-31

I am about forty miles from the broadcast towers. The ANT301's UHF reception was very good but VHF reception is poor. It picked up one of the five VHF channels in the area. I disconnected the power and there was no difference in signal strength so it is no more "amplified" than a normal pair of rabbit ears. If you are looking for an inexpensive amplified antenna, the RCA ANT1250 is a better choice.

      4 out of 5 stars Great Value.......2006-10-01

I was trying to get local HD channels added to my dish network setup. I tried a directional NONamplified antenna and after 30 minutes of fiddling for the best angle, these are the signal strength numbers I got:
      Fox - 68%
      CBS - 63%
      ABC - 59%

Fox was the only one that was watchable at this strength. I bought the ANT301 and plugged it in and after about 5 minutes of fiddling, here are the new strengths:
      Fox - 78%
      CBS - 83%
      ABC - 73%

All three channels are watchable now with no issues. I would recommend this antenna if you are just within range of your HD channels and want to get a better signal. It wont work miracles, but it does improve the signal over nonamplified antennas.

1 out of 5 stars No better reception than a coax cable.......2006-08-24

I decided to get rid of cable (too expensive). Living in downtown Milwaukee, I should probably get many channels with an antenna )(one would think). Unfortunately, I didn' have one. So, at first, I hooked up a two three foot coax cables to a splitter (to create a dipole type thing) and I hooked this up to the TV. I got okay reception from this. Time to pick up an antenna.

I just bought the 301 from best buy. The sales dude said it was the best on the market and he had no complaints or returns. Hooked it up in place of my coax cable contraption. It faired just as well, if not worse.

I am returning the antenna and getting the 25 channel cable plan for $13.00 (the one they don't tell you about).

3 out of 5 stars Good, but probably could be better........2006-08-21

With this antenna, hi definition channels look really good. I disagree with the other reviews where they say that it works better without being plugged in. When I unplug it, my signal immediately dies. Another problem I found is that sometimes when I walk by the antenna, the picture on the tv can skip, this also happens on windy days. Also, the unit doesnt come with any instructions, which was disappointing. If you do buy this antenna, you have to run the "Channel search" feature on your TV or else you will get NOTHING, I was forced to figure that out by myself. For $15 with free shipping, this has been a worthy purchase.

      2 out of 5 stars Over-Priced.......2006-03-19

I bought this to improve the reception of the ANT110, a much cheaper model that had good reception overall but I wanted much more. I spent $30 for the ANT301 and overall it was not worth the cost. I plugged in the amplifier and it actually made things WORSE. But when I removed the amplifier I got much better reception, but the $20 ANT103 is the same thing with no amplifier so it has similar reception. If your looking for great reception go with Trek's version but if you are looking for decent reception go with the ANT103. For this, avoid it, it's overpriced and the amplifier is worse than a push-pin.

Live in a apt. in NYC, can see Manhattan. Save your money, get a Terk antenna. The RCA was worst than my rabbit ears, even with amplification.
What amplification? Didn't see a difference, even with regular channels. Got it for my HDTV, what a waste. Wish I listened to the reviews.

1 out of 5 stars Save your money.......2007-05-02

I purchased two of these units and was excited to save money on my cable bill. When I hooked the antenna to all my TV sets, I picked up "no channels". I picked up fuzz on several channels, and found I picked more channels on my TVs when I disconnected it...go figure

4 out of 5 stars Cheap and functional.......2007-01-03

Not a bad antenna for $15. I have a USB HD Tuner and it work perfect. Picks up most stations in HD. However, it is not well suited for non digital stations (analog stations). You should probably go with an amplified outdoor antenna if you want to pick those up clearly.

1 out of 5 stars Did not work for me at all.......2006-12-12

I had a five dollar set of bunny ears attached to my HDTV here in Chicago. Reception was great for all Chicago HD channels except for Fox in HD. I saw this antenna at Best Buy and it said on the box that it was optimized for HD reception. I thought the Fox HD reception would improve when I replaced my cheapo bunny ears with this RCA ANT401. Unfortunately, I could not get clear reception from any HD channels after installing it.

      5 out of 5 stars works.......2006-08-01

Bought the Zenith Silver Sensor before, but could not get anything except CBS. Bought this one, and with amplification can get all the broadcast channels I want. Go to [...] to find which direction the stations are broadcasting from, and point the UHF loop in that direction. I have to move the loop to get CBS. I don't know about VHF functionality, I only tested HD stations (which are usually over UHF). The UHF loop folds down when not in use, making it look nicer. The VHF dipoles are detachable too. Overall very satisfied with this product.

I returned it. The plain rabbit ears from Sears work better. Very disappointing.

5 out of 5 stars Works great with HDTV.......2004-03-26

I am living about 40 miles from the TV towers. Recently, I cancelled my cable and bought this antenna from a local Best Buy for my HD receiver. Once this antenna is set and positioned on my TV, it can picks up all the HD channels. Signal strength is about 50 to 60% measured by the HDTV receiver.

Because I not longer have cable and some channels like PBS are still not in HD, I also use this antenna to pick up the non-HD channels. The result is acceptable with some noise. Like some other reviews say, this antenna is poor at picking up VHF range (channel 2 - 13) and acceptable at picking up UHF range (channel 14 - 69).

      1 out of 5 stars no luck, dosen't work!.......2003-09-22

Bought this antenna from a local best buy hoping to avoid cable. I have Recton rabit ears already, but was hoping for better reception with the amplified antennas. My reception got slightly worse. No matter what position the I put it in I could't get the static to clear up. It never got better than my cheap rabbit ears. I took it back and tried an even more expensive one, Jensen tv930, it also dosn't work. Since some people seeem to like these amplified antennas, just buy it from a retailer with a good return policy.

      2 out of 5 stars Comparable to a non-amplified ... antenna.......2002-12-30

Got this RCA ANT200 from a local BestBuy .... It works slightly WORSE than my non-amplified Recoton 350 antenna (old one, ...OK). In fact the Recoton gets better reception on two channels (11 and 13) than the RCA. The amplifier in the ANT200 introduces sligh amount of noise, which makes the picture a bit brighter, but not better or clearer. The ghosts do not diminish either. The snow is about the same. I'm returning it... It has an A/B switch whith lets me compare the two antennae immediately without switching the cables, so the differences (or the lack there of for the most part) b/w the two were obvious. Not worth it in my opinion compared to a cheaper non-amplified antenna for the reception I get. Perhaps for weaker signals in remote areas it might be better, but in the urban area where I live it does not improve anything beyond the non-amp antenna I got.

3 out of 5 stars Spend more for the ANT 1250.......2002-12-28

I was evaluating several indoor antennas for my Son-In-Law's house in Newport Beach, CA and purchased one of the RCA ANT200 for use with a brand-new Phillips TV. It was marginal in terms of bringing in LA stations just 50 miles north of here. I figured that it should have done better as there are few mountains in between. Since I was not satisfied, I returned it and bought a ANT1250. This one costs a bit more but the reception is 200% better! Of course a roof-mounted would be the ultimate but asthetics are very important to him sooooo!

5 out of 5 stars 35 mm film camera comeback.......2006-07-10

I had a digital camera that burned through batteries. This Olympus camera was the best I have ever seen for vacationing and, of course, other uses. The camera is ready to go at a moment's notice and quickly changes from 28 to 140 mm at the press of a button. I don't have to worry about batteries or a long lag time while the camera gets ready to shoot. Also, there is no lag after the shutter is clicked as is true of digital cameras. The shutter speed goes up to 1/2000 th of a second so pictures of widely varying light content and speed are possible. The camera is compact and lightweight and self contained so you don't need a camera bag with a bunch of lenses.

      5 out of 5 stars Great camera.......2006-03-18

      5 out of 5 stars Great Camera!!!.......2005-12-02

This is our third "IS" Olympic camera and is replacing a broken "IS 2". My wife is the primary user and she loves all of them but especially the "IS 5". For the past month she has been using a good Nikon pocket camera with a view finder (not "through the lens"}. She couldn't wait for the new Olympus TTL. Using the IS 5 will absolutely spoil you against smaller "point and shoot" cameras. I own Nikon F and Olympus OM cameras and use IS 5 90% of the time because of ease and quality of photos. We travel all over the world and find the IS series of cameras from Olympus to be the perfect travel camera for us.

5 out of 5 stars This Camera is most definitely an SLR.......2004-10-19

I beg to differ with bcook. I don't know what definition of SLR he is using. But interchangable lenses and hotshoes have nothing to do with whether a Camera is an SLR (Single Lens Reflex) or not. What determines this is whether or not you view through the same lense used to capture the image. Since there is only one lense on the IS-5 it is by definition a Single Lens Reflex.

As alternatives to SLRs, cheaper film cameras and all but the most expensive digital cameras used rangefinders or a second much smaller lense for viewing and more expensive cameras such as the Rollei used Twin Lens Reflexes (the expensive Leica and Contax used rangefinders too).

It is true that SLRs are ideal for interchangeable lens support. But this is a strong point of SLR design not a requirement for it.

I have owned Olympus cameras since the OM-1 (the first camera to challenge Nikon's total domination in the field of photojournalism). I also owned the IS-1 which is the first of the IS series of "all in one" film cameras. The IS-1 had a problem focusing in low and moderately low light, but otherwize was a great camera. Olympus has solved the focusing problem since the IS-2 and the IS-5 is cheaper and far better and provides one of the most convenient film cameras available. With built in flash, and a very high quality wide to telephoto zoom lense in a compact package, it's all the film camera most people will ever need.
