Customer Reviews:
This IS the OTA antenna to buy.......2007-08-22
The ANT525 is the perfect OTA antenna for me. I had tried 3 others amplified antennas, including the highly rated Terk HDTVa, prior to buying this one and the ANT525 worked the best. I placed each antenna in the same location and the ANT525 increased my signal strength by 10-15 points over the other antennas. The ANT525 is very solid and stable. I'm using antenna for UHF only so I removed the VHF dipoles which really increased the aesthetics of the antenna.
I highly recommend the ANT525. I wish I would've started with this one and I would've saved a lot of time returning inferior antennas.
Great reception. SHORT CORD.......2007-08-11
This is a solid product. Great reception with it good for me with the channels that have Football! I would have to agree about the short cord though I have a table close that I put the antenna on and it works fine for me. It would have gotten 5 stars with the cord length up more. I mean come on its regular TV what more can you ask for.
good reception, but attached coax cable.......2007-03-19
i tried four antennas for my hdtv, and this one was giving the best reception, but it has an attached ~4ft coax cable, meaning that I can't put the antenna farther than that from the TV. I think I'm going to return it.

Gets all the important channels at an excellent quality........2007-08-17
I live in Palo Alto, CA, ~30 miles from the stations. With this antenna I receive all the important channels: FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS, etc... in 1080i without any dropouts, the quality is amazing! I keep the rabbit ears tucked in because I'm not interested in the VHF stations, so the styling looks very modern. All in all I get ~45 digital stations and 15 analog. I can get more if I mess with position, but it's perfect as it is now.
This is my first antenna, I cannot compare it to any other, but I'm very satisfied.
Stylish and powerful.......2007-01-19
I tried several different antennas in my apartment and this one worked the best. It even beat out the highly touted Terk antenna (the one that looks like a saw blade). I'm not sure if this means anything, but it claims to amplify the signal by 25db compared to most others that are in the 10-15db range. I liked it, but try it out first before you buy it.
Stylish but Weak.......2006-03-31
I was able to compare this amplified antenna directly with the Zenith UN-amplifiend indoor HDTV antenna. The Zenith was at least 25% to 50% better at pulling in the weaker stations.
This RCA antenna LOOKS very nice with its wavy styling. But then you have to pull out its rabbit ears and set them askew to pick up a decent signal! That kills the styling advantage. And its soooo touchy about its positioning to pick up weaker stations, you practically have to do a voodoo dance and wave a plucked chicken around the TV to get some stations that the Zenith pulls in with barely any trouble.
So don't let your wife talk you into getting the RCA for its looks. Buy the Zenith instead!

Customer Reviews:
Antennas Compared.......2007-06-12
I'm a first timer at getting OTA HDTV. This has been an experiment in progress for the past 5 weeks. I have gone through four antennas (they are all here as I write this) before finding something that's satisfactory (rather than tolerable).
I live around 25 miles from Manhattan, where the towers of most TV stations are located. I am also aware of the directional information from [...], and have experimented accordingly with its effects on reception. My apartment's windows all face north, while the signals all comes from southwest. I cannot get signals from where it comes from, and thus needed to get signals from deflections perhaps off nearby buildings and trees. It's a very poor circumstance for over-the-air reception, maybe just slightly better than being underground. Signals are weak, and are affected by weather. Stormy and windy days have shown effects at disrupting signal reception.
With this said, and without going into much detail, let's talk about the antennas. Now all these antenna have been tested with the same equipment, setup, directional adjustments, location, etc. etc. and have been tested through good an foul weather, day and night, to observe differences.
1.Terk HDTVa Terk HDTVa Indoor Amplified High-Definition Antenna for Off-Air HDTV Reception- After reading some rave reviews and high ratings at [...], log periodic types (looks like a fishbone) seems to be the way to go. I got the Terk HDTVa first, thinking that the amplification and VHF antenna should nail my reception problems at the start. However, after more than two weeks of fidgeting around ad nauseam (directions, locations, amplifications, different devices, etc.), I only managed to pick up two ATSC channels' signals, and even those don't have strong enough signals to display anything. I thought maybe it's just my poor location, and that I should probably give up on the attempt. The included in-line amplifier dongle doesn't work at all. Powering it on makes no difference in signal strength readings, which hovered around 5-10%.
It is well built, looks nice, good concepts, but it just didn't work.
2.Phlips PHDTV1 Philips PHDTV1 Digital HDTV-UHF Indoor Antenna- The venerated "silver sensor" which was previously sold under the Zenith brand also had great ratings and reviews. It's in fact nearly legendary. I decided, in desperation, to try it out, even if it doesn't have amplification. It seems all my local HD channels are in UHF anyway, so I won't miss the VHF dipoles.
The unit has startlingly poorer build quality compared to the Terk. It has paint bubbles, hairs and dusts trappings in the paint, sharp edged cheap plastics and much thinner metal blades that's covered in oil and has some dings and bendings. I wasn't impressed with the quality, and didn't expect much from it as I set it up.
To my surprise, it picked up 9 working channels (note: the terk got two channels' signals, but they didn't work) from the start, even if it's randomly placed. It's thrilling as it was the first time I saw OTA HDTV. After some adjustment and location experiments, I was able to receive 19 channels. However, not all of these channels work well given the same direction.
The directionally sensitive antenna needs to be adjusted as I switch channels. e.g. NBC and CBS seems to work well in one direction, while ABC has its own favorite direction, which works also with FOX. I tried as best as possible to find a compromise point where everything works. I couldn't. It just needs to be adjusted constantly.
The transmission is often dogged by reception fluctuations. Signal quality tend to fluctuate quite a bit, especially affected by weather. That means the TV playback would get choppy at times, with its severity dependent on the direction I point the antenna at. I didn't think fluctuating signals was a characteristic until I tried the latter two antennas later. I also found that I had to constantly play with the directional positioning to get a stable signal from each of the stations.
It works, and I was impressed, but then in retrospect it could only be best described as a "tolerable" HDTV experience as I struggled for a smooth signal delivery.
3.RCA ANT111 Basic Indoor Antenna- While shopping in stores, I saw this basic and classic RCA loop/dipole antenna for less than $[...]. I couldn't resist the temptation to try it out, just for the heck of it. It is also a different type of antenna than the previous two.
Again, I was surprised. This cheap antenna worked well, especially considering how it's only a fraction of the price of the two I'd tried. I ended up getting 17 channels, a few less than the PHDTV1, with the same location and setup. Some channels also don't work, even if signals were detected. The quality of the signals seems to be the key.
So what's so special about it? It strangely had better signal delivery for the channels that worked. It's not as choppy, and quality level is very steady. It is also not as affected by directional positioning. I was for the first time able to view FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC without adjusting the antenna. However, the lack of directionality also makes it ambiguous when I lost the signal. It seems that there's no "favorite direction" for the channels, which also means I can't pull in stronger signals at my choosing. It is also quite susceptible to weather changes, particularly wind (which probably affected signals reflected by trees?)
The signal strength also seems to be a little weaker, though the signal quality tend to be higher in general. That probably contributed to the smoother video delivery. It also tempted me to get a similar design that has amplification.
4.Philips MANT510 Philips High Performance Amplified Indoor Uhf/ Vhf/ Fm Antenna- This unit has a "digital TV optimized, patent pending UHF panel array". I thought I'd try it out just for the slightly different antenna design, if not just for the adjustable amplification.
Well, it works, and works quite well. The antenna doesn't work without power, and with amplification turned off it works a little less than unpowered PHDTV1 and ANT111. Yet with the amplification turned on, I get 24 channels, with strength up to 81% (compared to 3-10% unamplified, and quality consistently above 60 and usually in the 70-90%+. That generates the most reliable video delivery of all the ones tried.
While thunderstorms still managed to distrupt signals, it's much less often and only momentarily. I also don't have to worry about hunting for signals as I just point it in one general direction and I get everything but three NJN channels (they are even further from here.. maybe a good 50 miles).
I finally can just set the antenna and forget it. It lets me focus on the programming rather than antenna adjustment. While it needs to be powered, it gives me the confidence to finally enjoy HDTV, rather than tweaking and tolerating it. It's good enough that I can probably stop searching. I hope it'll be helpful to you who may be going through the same purchasing decision nausea as I have.

Crisp & Clear.......2007-07-30
I'm actually quite lucky that my house resides in a pretty nice spot for all the local channels. I can get all but one station with this antenna, and it's a station that I really didn't even know was out there. I've had this antenna for over 6 months now, and I love it! I use it in conjunction with my DishNetwork equipment, and everything works smoothly.
Very poor signal reception.......2007-07-29
I bought this antenna hoping to watch local HD broadcast in my area. It turned out that the antenna didn't help at all. The HD signals received keeps fading in and out so bad that I couldn't watching anything more than 1 minute without loosing the signal.
Not that great...at all........2007-07-20
I bought this antenna because I cannot get local channels through my satellite tv provider. I don't even get all of my local channels and the ones that I do get look terrible! I've had better luck with just regular "rabbit ears". I live 15 miles from the broadcast stations.
Stop wasting your money on cable.......2007-04-02
With the cost of basic cable going through the roof, this is a great investment especially if you have an HDTV. Drop 50 bucks or so on this, pick up HD signals for your local channels and some other ones and pay no cable bill.
If you need movie channels, ESPN, Comedy Central, Discovery or the few other channels that one might actually watch on cable, this antenna WILL NOT get those. If you just want to get the major networks and keep $600 - $1200 in your pocket each year instead of giving it to Comcast then get one of these and buy or rent a DVD if there is a movie you really want to see. The picture with this is every bit as good as what you see on the TVs in the stores with the signs next to them telling you you need to get cable and/or DirecTV.
A great complement to any HDTV.......2007-02-23
Upon careful consideration about the thought of paying my cable company an additional 15 dollars a month over the already inflated rate when I would really only take advantage of say, two, channels offered in HD that wouldn't otherwise be free, this alternative is an absolute gift. The antenna itself is small to the point that it can be placed on virtually any flat surface more than 4 inches wide, although when I was fiddling with the dipoles swinging them forward did cause the antenna to become top-heavy, which may result in it tipping over. Setup is effortless - plug the coaxial cable into the television, connect the power supply, and start watching free HD broadcasts. The only complaint I have with setup is the fact that the coaxial cord attached to the device is on the short side, and is planted in the back. That is, it cannot be removed and replaced with a longer coaxial should the need arise. But, as long as the antenna is placed within 6 feet of the television there really is no problem. This is a stylish and very functional addition to any HD capable television at an affordable price.

rca tv antenna.......2007-06-23
the reception on this item is lousy. i even put it outside and ran the cable through a window.
originally i ran bare copper wire outside and along the eaves. that worked much better than the antenna.
i really wish they could make one that actually works indoors, but
i guess they can't
my tv is in a workshop which is a converted 1 car garage
Desent Tv Antenna.......2007-06-12
It's pretty good for the money I paid. Not that bad of an Antenna for tv,sometimes I don't get good picture anyway on my set.I should get a new TV set soon the one I have is good but something new is just around the corner. The Antenna gives me a good view of what I'm watching daily. And that's all.I tried diffrent Antenna's nothing worked that well, but this Antenna does the trick until I buy a new TV set later, not a bad product though,It worth the money that I'd paid.

Customer Reviews:
Not to spec.......2006-09-11
I ordered 2 of these, realizing they would have limited adjustment range - other reviews are correct in that they are very limited in their travel. What prompts my one star rating and subsequent return of my order is that they will not hold their rated weight. This model is supposed to hold a 25 lb. monitor; it failed miserably at attempting to hold my 23 lb. iMac. There is no tension adjustment (already as tight as it would go) and the computer just flopped forward. With a light monitor, I'm sure it would be fine, but don't expect even close to the stated 25 lb. rating.
Not Impressed.......2006-05-13
The way this works: A rigid curved upright section is monuted on a clamp base; the upright rotates 360 degrees. A flexible metal tubing section continues to a universal joint. The flexible section twists about 90 degrees in either direction. The mounting plate has slots for screws to mount the monitor.
I found one of the universal joints is too tight, the other was too loose; they could probably be adjusted. The flexible section is quite stiff. Vertical adjustment is minimal and I was concerned that I would break the monitor case when I repositioned the monitor. I bought this because I have 2 positions I routinely have to change between. I've decided to return it; I purchased an Ergotron Neo-Flex NF08LD1S (Mfr. Part #: 45-185-194) which cost $10 less and is easier to work with. I'm using a viewsonic 20.1" widescreen monitor and I'm happy with it so far.
Decent enough arm, if you keep it in one place.......2006-03-14
This arm is difficult to move and it does not lift the monitor very high off of the desk. The best I can do with my 2001FP is 6.5" from the top of the desk to the bottom of the monitor. Only above the 1st joint is adjustable, the first section is metal and at a fixed bend. Once placed it it not really a problem, but it is certainly not an arm that you can swing around and move often.
Not very good.......2006-02-15
I can't believe this arm is selling on some web sites for $180. Its not worth $20. I had to return my first arm because one of the joints was locked tight and could not be moved, even with tools i could not loosen it. There is obviously no quality control with this manufacturer, as the replacement arm needed a joint loosening with tools. The arm is supposed to be easily adjustable with the weight of the monitor.
However when i loosened the joint and got it moving i found out that this monitor hangs out about 1.5' over my desk from the clamp point, as my desk is only 2.5' in depth the monitor was too close to my eyes. Also I could not get the monitor high enough to even be at eye level. I returned the arm and my monitor is back on a pile of books, but at least it's at eye level. I will look for more of a conventional arm that has an arm style more like a conventional clamp on desk light.
Minimal vertical travel.......2004-12-19
This unit is great and does everything is supposed to do except the 10 inches vertical travel. Mine moves up one or two inches upward but that's it. The vertical travel is nothing like the Macromedia flash example here: http://www.themoview.com/products/elite.html
Addendum Jan/03/05
It was a defective arm. Moview promptly replaced it with a new one. If I could, I'd change the rating to 5
