Garbage -- I returned it for a full refund.......2007-09-08

I don't know why, but I bought this webcam for my Mac thinking it was the only third party webcam that would work natively with iChat. If such a webcam exists, this isn't it. The Macally IceCam still requires iChatUSBCam (another $10 piece of software you have to buy, although you do get it for half off through a coupon included with this camera). Perhaps it would have worked in Skype without the separate iChatUSBCam software but I didn't test that.

The driver install was painless, although it did leave me with an application in my Applications directory as well, called Webcam Monitor, which seemed to do nothing at all.

It works in iChat, I tested it between two computers on my home network, so the performance should have been ideal. My other Mac uses a built-in iSight and the picture quality for that one was fantastic. Not so, with the Macally IceCam. It looks completely awful. The focus is never right, no matter how much I fiddle with the focus dial. The resolution is low, in any case, and the frame rate is even worse. iChat reported 15fps but it looked more like low single digits. I would guess between 2 and 5 frames per second. Worthless.

I suggest getting iChatUSBCam from Ecamm and using it to operate one of the other compatible third party webcams on the market. Or, if you have OSX 10.4.9 or later, you can get certain Logitech QuickCam models that don't require any additional software to work with iChat.

I use this on a Mac with Skype. Works great and I love talking to friends long distance and being able to see them. Excellent product and super easy to install, plus great price.

The most inexpensive web cam for Mac out there. There quality is decent and its easy to install. I had it working on skype in 5 minutes! Recommended for a cheap alternative to the isight!

This camera works OK with Macintosh only after purchasing additional software. This is not made clear in the specificatiions given. I'd have given it a higher rating if this fact was included in the advertising.

Based on the previous reviews, I got what I expected. Its a reasonable product, especially if you want a cheap MAC webcam. The picture quality isn't great, but it works fine with Yahoo messenger. If you're looking for something short term, this is probably better than spending a lot of money on the other expensive MAC webcams.

I really liked the ease and afforability of this web cam, so much so, that I bought one for my grown kids, and my elderly mother! All were able to install with no problems, and it is so much fun to see each other, when we all live in different parts of the country! The only thing I didn't like about it was, when I tried to install it on a different computer, my other computer couldn't seem to get it to work. But, that was probably more my own computer issue, rather than the camera's.

If you're a high tech, time is money, quality is the key type techno, this is not for you. If you're a spread apart family that would enjoy seeing the grandkids grow this is the camera for you. It's a free long distance phone/video call that can pre-planned to a certain day and time that the whole family can sit in on. Slight delay on movement and speech but the old and the young find it fabulous. Used it with Skype program, free download. Enjoy!! We do.

Another WinXP Blue Screen of Death.......2006-11-16

Ditto on the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) reviews that I've seen for this product. I had read the warnings before buying, but I have a relatively new, mainstream PC that I have never had a single problem with, and figured I would be ok. The price was right.

I installed the software (which checks online for newer versions than what is on the CD...there was none), plugged in the device when asked to by the on-screen prompt, and the machine immediately gave me a BSOD. When I restarted, the machine would not boot due to a missing DLL file...I went through the recovery process with the Windows XP installation CD (took 30 minutes but seemed to repair the system perfectly), and when I restarted the machine after the recovery I left the webcam plugged in. I assumed that the recovery would have refreshed any conflicted files and/or drivers, but soon after boot (I later realized that this was when the install program tried to resume) I got another BSOD.

Finally I wised up, unplugged the hardware, and restarted the machine (no corrupted OS this time, thankfully). The installation software again tried to continue and asked me to plug in the device...I chuckled and politely refused, and it crashed soon after. Windows XP crash reporting informed me that Logitech had informed Microsoft of a solution to this problem...I needed to install the software from their website. I downloaded it, tried to install it, and got a message that my currently installed version was newer than the one I was trying to install. It was the last straw...I had given this webcam the benefit of every doubt...so I sent it back.

As mentioned in several other reviews...install at your own peril.

Okay, so I got this webcam a few years ago as a gift, which is nice 'cause I don't have to buy it. BUT THE QUALITY IS HORRIBLE!! Now that more and more web cameras are coming out, better quality ones are of reasonable prices.

Move on, get a better web camera. This one's getting TOO old.

For one thing, I had to have MAXIMUM light everytime I use it - which is hard when you're online at night when all you have is your room light, which is usually not as bright as the sunlight. Then even when there's maximum light, all you could see is basically outlines! you can't see details in the picture, which sucks.

So... for any purposes, personal or business, DO NOT buy this camera because you will just cry in regret.

Oh and the prices says it all ;)

I purchased a VEO CONNECT... 333V ****DON'T DO IT!!!They have a web site that is all dead links, they have updated software downloads that aren't really there... They will not return email. And the phone # doesn't go through! I am not talking about "I tried once or twice" Im talking both I and the seller have gone back to the site almost every day for over a month now. Still no help, no email, and NO SUPPORT! The CD rom bundled software they included with the cam, does not up load... And they will NOT HELP!

It is worth buying for simple uses like for seeing family and friends. I received as a gift. It is very portable and will sit just about anywhere and has a nice focus right on the front.I would recommend it.

The only good thing about this cam is that it allows you to uninstall the software that comes with it from your PC. So you can return it and move on.

The cam doesn't work well with my MSN and Yahoo messenger. It can not be turned on most of the time. I have to unplug it from the USB and then re-plug it in. Really painful.

Overall a high quality webcam that produces excellent image despite the poorly lit room where it is located. The smart tracking that suppose to keep you in the center of the frame regardless of your movements does not work always as expected. this cam sucks....it freezes all the time. picture quality is good no offense but i have a stable os and cable internet and few progs running in the background. this stupid cam freezes every second and i reinstalled it several times. i still havent received a reply from Dlink though.

I've just got both D-link usb 1.1 plus the Labtec WebCam Pro. Don't buy this product it's the waste of money, The picture of this is very blurry not so bright and the software is not that good at all. This is the worse product of D-link. Get Labtec WebCam Pro, the picture quality much better also the software is alots better especially the motion sensor recorder that I can use to surveillance my baby sitter. I bought this webcam for stills and video. I get great pictures from both formats. The color is good and the video pics are very smoothe. The software takes a little studying, but after a quick read, it's pretty easy to edit your pics and videos. This is a great buy for the money. I highly reccomend it.

Great Webcam.......2006-07-01

For the price - this camera is really good. It took me less than 10 minutes to install and set it up. It can take photos, video - the image is pretty clear and it has zoom capabilities. You can adjust the camera (swivel base) based on what is being viewed - or if you change positions. The microphone is sensitive. I am on the west coast and was talking to someone in the Midwest and she could hear me just fine when I was standing 15 feet from the camera talking in a normal voice. The picture was pretty clear with minimal delay. What more do you want for roughly 30 dollars? It'll be outdated soon - but for right now - this is a decent webcam.

It is compatible with AIM, MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger (the programs I sue) - not sure of any other compatibilities.

My 1996 webcam was better!.......2005-07-14

What a joke. I am using this camera with my ibook G4 and boy the image quality is very, very poor. The video is also a joke, and the files are way too large. I believe that LogiTech stopped caring for Mac products so they are producing average at best mac hardware. Its amazing, because the best webcam I bought for a Mac was in 1996. That cam worked well in low light rooms, and did so much more and offered so much better software for the Mac os of the time than this camera.

But its amazing that Logitech will go the extra mile for Windows users and offer them so much more software and features, yet will give mac users jack.

Subpar on Mac.......2005-04-19

The Logitech Quickcam Zoom has been a pain in the neck to use on my Mac (iBook G3/700 running Evocam webcam software). On most days the video ouptut is jerky or nonexistent until the cam is unplugged then replugged, the "snapshot" button on top is prone to accidental pressing, the lens cover doesn't attach securely and tends to fall off, the screw attaching the camera to its malleable base comes loose too easily, and the image quality is average at best. It did work with Evocam, but caused more grief than I figured it's been worth these past few months, so I'm selling this off and getting me a Unibrain firewire webcam instead.

This is a nice little camera with tons of problems on installing if your OS is XP professional. Try to find solutions at their web site is a waste of time as the FAQ sections consists of mere three entries, none related to the webcam.
Finally, once that you are upgrading or trying to upgrade the drivers, here comes a warning: "IT IS RECOMMENDED NOT TO INSTALL THE CAMERA BEFORE INSTALLING THE DRIVERS."

Waste of Time and Money.......2003-03-17

My husband purchased this webcam 2 weeks ago so that faraway relatives could see our 3 year old in action. In these past 2 weeks we have had to return it 2x and now we'll be returning it for our 3rd time.

Camera #1 - as we were installing the webcam and reading the manual, we realized that we were missing a key component - the audio connector. What good is a webcam with a built-in microphone if you can't connect the microphone?? Image quality was fine, though - we weren't expecting it to be crystal clear, given the cost of it, but it was decent. I wrote to Micro Innovations' support and was told to bring it back to the store to exchange it for...

Camera #2 - this one had the audio connector. Great! Not. The image quality was so poor and when we fiddled with the settings, it just got worse. In other words, this webcam was defective! So, back to a different store location in a different area of the state for...

Camera #3 - we, in our rush, forgot to check it out before we left the store with it. We were also thinking that there was no way a 3rd such camera would be defective. Got home only to find that it was missing the audio connector! Image quality is similar to what it was in Camera #1. I wrote to the support department again and this time I was told that the newer versions (what newer version? there was nothing in the box or manual that indicated it was a "newer version" and the manual still talked about hooking up an "audio connector") didn't have audio connectors so it was okay. Okay! That means the first one we had was okay too! Yay! What a waste of time! And not only that, the sound quality is horrible - there's this incessant beeping noise in the background no matter how far away from the speakers we put it, though the cord only goes so far. Don't know if we have it hooked up right (though how much room for error is there when all you have to do is plug it into the USB port?) or if this is yet another defective camera.

If only we could get rid of that incessant beeping in the background - we've tried troubleshooting and even called the support dept. at Micro Innovations to help and the support guy was unable to figure out what was going on, this would be a decent webcam, initial problems aside. The software included is fine for our needs, as is the video quality.

What you pay for........2003-03-11

I bought this webcam at Staples for 30 dollars with a 10 dollar rebate. It's more or less pretty good in the right light and isn't terrible, but it isn't awesome either. It's basically what you pay for.

I read the other reviews & I want to know what these people want. For a $30 camera, this thing rocks! I borrowed my brothers camera so my daughter could talk to grandma. I plugged it in, downloaded the driver from the web & was video conferencing on MSN Messenger in about 2 minutes. I'd definitly buy another one!!

Read many reviews saying that they had compatibility issues. But mine hooked up fine on XP Home (make sure you dont connect the cam before you install the s/w - this is mentioned in the instructions).

Image quality:

Image quality is a little grainy, but for $20 its OK. Does not handle bad light well. With good light its fine. I do not use it for anything other than doing cam-chats with folks faraway. Though it came with a lot of bundled s/w, I did not install any coz i dont need it.

One surprising thing is that, with its own software i get a decent enough refresh rate and better image quality, but when using it with yahoo msngr on DSL, refresh rate is real slow and the image becomes grainy. But i guess this is not the fault of the cam since it works better with its own software.

Build quality:

Build quality is not impressive but passable, especially the legs look weak and as if they'd break if i was a little rough with them. (but if one is rough with a budget cam then one is rather stupid). Legs do a good job of holding on to my laptop screen and i had no trouble with them. Swiveling angles of the head are adequate to place it almost anywhere one might reasonably need to.

Verdict:

So overall, if you have to make a choice between this webcam and no webcam, go for it. But know that this is not a performance product & you should be happy. I am.

I'm not sure if this is in the instructions manual, but for those that have complaints about photo quality, here's one thing you can try- twist the blue lens cover. This changes the focus of the camera which may resolve any image quality issues. Hope it helps

This is actually NOT a review & rating was given just on average. I'm just wondering if this device is compatible with a high speed USB 2. Because it says it requires USB 1.1. So, can anybody suggest me on this matter? I appreciate any suggestion. Thanks.
